x1 extreme finicky 2.4ghz wifi

Q: x1 extreme finicky 2.4ghz wifi

Hi there, both my wife and I have the same x1 extreme 20mf. Mine has trouble communicating with the 2.4 ghz wifi in our home, my wife's does not. Mine can connect but communication is extremely slow. Connecting to the 5ghz in our home is fine on both computers. Mine even has trouble with 2.4ghz when setting up a clean windows 10 install after formatting. Here are the things I have already tried:I have already tried replacing the wifi card in my computer but the new one performs in the same way. I would suspect that the antenna is shorting out somewhere (I don't actually know if that is a thing).I have tried several driver versions 20.70 and 20.50 and 20.120 all same behavior (my wife's is 20.70 and hers works fine).I have tried all the solutions at https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht502846 and none worked for me.I am staying in East Africa until late May so I can't send my computer off to get fixed, but I'm open to any other solutions. Even if there's a guide on how to check the antennas I'd be willing to give that a try. Thanks in advance for any help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, my CPU is i7-8550u and my GPU is MX150. V2.05 of the BIOS (4qcn41ww) works well. However, the big issue is that the fan curve is so high that fans will spin 24/7, even on idle. The laptop is able to overclock/underclock in response to demand needs. Excellent, but too loud. I upgraded to V2.07, which definitely fixed the fan curve problem, especially when "Quiet Mode" is selected in the BIOS. HOWEVER, there is one extreme issue, the clock speed will be fixed to a single speed indefinitely until reboot. The clock speed is not able to dynamically change. This is terrible because it either is fixed to 0.4Ghz (EXTREMELY SLOW) or 1.8Ghz (still slow, bearable, but I shouldn't have to deal with this in my purchase). These clock speeds were provided by Windows Task Manager. The throttle starts at a random time, and doesn't end until the computer is rebooted. After dealing with V2.07, I've reverted to V2.05 (provided by a Lenovo Chat assistant). I'm back to loud fans, but a properly running device. This issue is not heat related, I don't think. I have a CPU temperature reading, and it throttles to 0.4Ghz even at 45C (which is idle). I've attempted to fix this problem, if it may be thermals, by applying an undervolt via Throttlestop. However, the issue persists regardless of it throttlestop is running or not. I've ran an Official Lenovo Hardware Scan, and my computer comes up clean. For a $1000 laptop, I'm really surprised at how shoddy o... Read more

I am having an intermittent issue with my Asus RT-AC88U router (purchased about 4 months ago). The issue started about a week ago and there have been no changes I have initiated to the router or my Windows 10 Pro PC.

I noticed it first on my phone when at home, it would connect to WiFi (2.4GHz) just fine but said under the connection that internet was not available. 5GHz and wired connections had internet just fine. Resetting (power cycling) the router did not fix it but sometimes it seemed to fix it's self. Last night I had no WiFi on 2.4 but this morning it's fine. My provider is Comcast but if it was Comcast I think the issue would be on 2.4 and 5.

I contacted Asus via their support chat and the tech. had me change some setting and I figured that fixed it till the problem showed up again a day and a half later.

Has anyone had a similar issue and if so found a fix? Is this a router hardware issue and I should contact Asus for a replacement?

Thanks for the help!!

Hi guys,
I have a strange problem with my laptop Dell m3800 with Windows 10 and Dell dw1560 Wifi mini card with Broadcom 94352 chip.
I am living in Europe but for some reason my wifi card cannot detect channels 12-13 on 2.4Ghz.
I think this is Windows 10 fault because after I fresh install everything it was working on channels 12-13, after I logged into Microsoft account it cannot detect channels 12-13 anymore.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

A little help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advanced

I'm using a new Asus AC68U router. My home network includes, among other items, my desktop and my laptop (a Dell XPS 15). The laptop occasionally drops the wifi on the 2.4 GHz band. Everything else on the network handles both bands fine. The laptop has been holding well on the 5Ghz band. How do I determine with the 2.4 Ghz band if the problem is the laptop, the router--or both? How do I diagnose this problem? I should mention that all the laptop and Asus drivers are up to date. Thanks.

I want to upgrade my home network to support HD streaming over Wifi. I am considering getting an 802.11ac router and replacing my laptops Wifi network card with one that supports the new Wifi 802.11ac standard.

On my home network I want to connect a TV set top box to the router over Cat6 but my laptop is the only device that will be connecting over Wifi. I have a Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop. It has an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 Wifi card which supports dual stream but only one band: 2.4Ghz.

It looks like my laptop only has two internal antenna cables and for this reason I am thinking I cannot avail of triple stream Wifi-N 450Mb/s + 450Mb/s on a simultaneous dual band N900 router. I am stuck with a theoretical max of 300Mb/s on 2.4Ghz under Wifi-N and/or 866Mb/s on 5Ghz under Wifi-AC.

Here are my questions:

1. If I get a simultaneous dual band router can my laptop stream an HD movie on the 5Ghz band and at the same time download say a Youtube video on the 2.4Ghz band? I ask that because I'd like to get a such a router and preserve every ounce of bandwidth on its 5Ghz band for streaming movies from the set top box to my laptop... not have to share it for web browsing needs.

2. Would it be a better solution, or even possible, to install a third internal antenna in my laptop and get a triple stream 802.11n class Wifi card (such as the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300) and Wifi-N Class router OR should I buy an 802.11ac router and get the better bandwidth it offers... A:Can my Laptop simultaneously connect to a 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz Wifi network?

You can stream HD movies fine at 150Mbps or even less but it depends on how much of the bandwidth is being used by your neighbors. This can be a big problem in some areas. You won't be able to use both frequency's at once.

Finding the best clean channels to use are what matters most on 2.4 GHz, channel bonding comes in handy sometimes but works best when the channels are mostly clear.

5Ghz is better in this respect because hardly anyone is using it so you tend to get all the bandwidth to yourself but the drawback with 5GHz frequency is that it won't go through walls worth a darn so it's really only useful for open area's outdoors or for large rooms.

I'm running the Asus AC66U router and the Asus PCI-e AC66 NIC which usually runs about 877.5-1.1 Gb. I can stream multiple YouTube video's while watching movies although I could also do this using the 2.4GHz frequency at 300Mbps.

Hi all, this is my first post so I really appreciate all of the help and I can't tell you how much I've benefitted from the things I've read while lurking here over the last few days. Now, on to the show...

I have an HP workstation with a Q35 based mother board that had a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo in it (E6550), and I wanted to put the processor into my new rig, but still want to use the old comp. I have a Cedar Mill core Pentium 4 3.4GHz HT that's also socket 775 and I thought I'd just stick that in the HP since it doesn't need the better processor. Now, when I try to boot the HP, I get a couple of beeps and the fan just goes on overdrive and stays that way until I shut the thing off, but it never boots.

What's weird is that I can stick the Core 2 Duo back in and everything boots up just fine, but the thing just hates on that P4 like no tomorrow. Now I've used the P4 in my new rig just to make sure it wasn't shot, and it works like a charm. It's just in that workstation with the Q35 mother board that I'm getting nowhere. Any thoughts?

A:Cedar Mill P4 3.4Ghz in Q35 mobo won't boot. Swapped in for C2D E6650 2.4Ghz

Your workstation motherboard probably does not support that P4 processor. Just because it is socket 775 doesn't mean it is compatible.

I thought I had a double NAT problem, online somewhere it said go into Bridge Mode, CSR said the ISP router is already in that mode.

I have a cable router as my ISP, hooked up to a ASUS router (2.4GHz and 5GHz) for the house. Have 10 devices on the ASUS. On the Cisco ISP router, I got my Desktop computer in port 2 running to my Ethernet port on the back of my computer, and ASUS in port 1 which goes to the blue input port on the ASUS. I turned off the WiFi on the Cisco router.

The question I have is how can I log into my ASUS router when hard-wired into port 2 on the CISCO router.
CISCO is 192.168.0.1 - ASUS is using port one 192.168.0.10, Computer is using port two 192.168.1.194
ASUS is 192.168.1.1 - Can only access this router when connected to it via WiFi.

Well I am connected to both now - the WiFi on the ASUS and hardwired to the CISCO.
I have both routers open. ASUS 192.168.1.1 and Cisco 192.168.0.1
This problem seems to be artificially solved.

My X1 Extreme Wifi keeps disconnecting multiple times an hour. I've only noticed it while playing video games, so I'm not sure whether this issue also occurs when not gaming. This issue has become more frequent ever since installing the 'critical' updates that Lenovo will make you download now and then. I've suspected that it might've been the most recent bios update that is causing these connectivity issues. If so, is there a way to undo it and go back to the previous version? Also weird is when I'm installing Lenovo's updates, it seems there are two separate windows/updaters that are running and it seems like one interrupts the other and just reboots my computer, making me wonder if this is screwing with the update process and causing further issues.

I recently purchased an X1 Extreme laptop, 20MF000URT modification. During two days of work, a flaw emerged - an unstable wifi connection. For some time it was stable, sometimes - very slow, periodically disappeared completely.Sometimes it looked like long waiting for a response from a site, finally ending with connection lost. On sites that test the quality of connection (for example, https://www.meter.net/ping-test/)I saw that the median ping oscillates around 100 milliseconds. This is when the connection existed. On my old Thinkpad W520 laptop, the median ping was 3 milliseconds. I did not find a solution for the problem on the net. The inability to find wifi network nearby was reported more often. I also installed all the Windows updates and all the ThinkVantage updates - it did not help. For the purity of the experiment, I dropped the computer to its original state and checked again - the problem remained. As a result, I had to return the laptop to the online store (called Lenovo Shop (their website - shop.lenovo.ru - says that this is the official Lenovo online store in Russia). At the moment the situation is not clear. I will keep you updated.

I fixed most of my Wi-Fi issues today by updating bios. I hadn't before because it said that the current version and the one I was trying to update to were the same. Today, I thought, "What the heck? It won't hurt anything." After the subsequent reboot, Wi-Fi works awesomely.

Hi, I currently have a X1 extreme (i5, FHD) gen 1 model. The installed wifi card supports 802.11ac (wifi 5). I would like to upgrade to a card that supports 802.11ax (wifi 6) for some future proofing. I understand that Thinkpads have a whitelist in the bios so I can't simply install a new card. I don't want to do any elaborate bios modifying. I don't know what cards are on the whitelist but I guess there are no wifi 6 cards. I notice that the upcoming X1 extreme gen 2 version will support wifi 6. When it comes available, is it possible to use the bios in the gen 2 device in my gen 1 device? If so, would this allow me to insert the wifi 6 card from a gen 2 device into my gen 1 device? Any advice or other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

A:Is it possible to upgrade my X1 extreme (gen 1) with a 802.11ax wifi 6 card?

I have no information regarding whitellists on that model.  The allowable cards would include those certifiied by the FCC in U.S. and other agencies, and, therefore allowed for sale.   The only card I see for the X1 Extreme gen 1 in the parts list is the Intel 9560ngw (AC).  There is no information yet on drivers and downloads for the gen2 machine, but I would estimate the chances for the Gen 2 BIOS being useable on the Gen 1 machine at zero.

Hi there, My (nightmare) story so far: I purchased 6 months ago a X1 Extreme 20MF000X (i7 8750H - 32 GB RAM - 1 TB SSD). From day one, I noticed that I had very bad wifi signal (at 2,4Ghz band). More specifically, when I was in my office, which is in a room about 15 meters away from the server room (where the router is located), I had very slow internet speeds, so slow that I couldn?t even browse normally. On the contrary, I never had such a problem with any other Thinkpad of our company or even my iPhone, when using the same wifi network. The distance is not so far to justify the massive drop in internet and download speeds (I had normal speeds only when I was near the router). Moreover, from such a distance, I couldn?t even connect to the 5Ghz band. Taking several tests using Speedtest.net, I had the following results (in a 50 download / 5 upload line):Thinkpad T530: Download: 40Mbps, Upload: 4.5MbpsThinkpad L580: Download: 35Mbps, Upload: 4MbpsThinkpad X1C (Gen 6): Download: 35Mbps, Upload: 4MbpsMacbook pro 13 (2014): Download: 45Mbps, Upload: 4.5MbpsIphone X: Download: 40Mbps, Upload: 4 MbpsThinkpad X1E: Download: 4Mbps (!!!), Upload: 4Mbps! The only way to achieve download speeds of 40Mbps was to move the laptop near the router (at the same room)! I tested the above laptops to other networks, other routers and other places, but X1E always presented the same bad wifi signal when I was far from the router (but not so far to justify this). Im using Windows Vista 32 bit Home premium connected through a Linksys wireless router, the WRT54G ( model number ). I am runnning wired though.

There is one other pc running wired through the modem and two laptops that rarely use the wireless.

All the other computers connect to the internet no problem. But this one is very picky. Sometimes it wants to connect to the same thing twice so i used CMD to "route delete 0.0.0.0" which fixed it for a while but now that doesnt work.

Then sometimes it works fine. Theres no yellow "!" in device manager and the network card has all available updates.

Note: I just reinstalled windows to hopefully solve this but after all the windows updates it started again

A:Internet being very finicky

Sounds like maybe a driver problem with the NIC. Since all the other machines are not having a problem, it is likely that it's not the router and just that machine. Go to the manufacturer's website and try to download an updated driver for the NIC. See if that clears up the problem.

I've been having trouble burning video files to DVDs and playing them on my TV. My latest batch, the first file played fine, the second file was a little jerky and the third file hung part way thru. I've had other disks that weren't recognized or took 20 minutes to load. I'm hoping for specific tips to solve my problems. Here are the details:

Operating System: XP-SP2
CPU: 2.0 GHz Celeron
RAM: 480 MB
DVD burner: Lite On SHOW-1693S06C
16X DVD+-R/+-RW; DVD+-R DL
DVD player: Toshiba SD-3969SU
Disks: Office Depot 4X DVD+RW; Office Depot 4X DVD-R
Video Files: Mpeg format
Software: Nero 6 using Nerovision 3

Specific questions:
1) Am I better off burning to +RW, +R, -R or some other format for best compatibility with a DVD player? I seemed to get better results with +RW than R for a while but now the +RWs are failing consistently. People advise different things.

2) Would it help to go slower than the max rate? I haven't tried dropping to 2X.

3) I try to minimize activity on the computer while burning. I turn off email and don't multitask. I've tried doing a reboot right before burning to get the cleanest system. Is this sufficient?

I am the not-so-proud owner of a Toshiba M45-S355 laptop. It was given to me... 'nuff said.

Sometimes, my laptop will not recognize that I have a dvd-rom. I have no clue why.

It did this a couple of weeks ago and I didn't want to deal with it, so I turned it off and put it away. Last night, I turned it on for the first time since putting in 3 weeks and I had my DVD-Rom. Today I got home from work and opened it up and lo and behold, no DVD-Rom... again.

This happened before around Thanksgiving and I asked the girl who gave it to me if it did this before and she said that it did. She just dealt with it until it decided to come back. That day, it came back in 3 hours.

The drivers are up-to-date, there is nothing showing up as unknown in the device manager. That's all that I know how to check as I am not very technical.

Any help is very appreciated. Especially if it leads me back to playing The Sims 2.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"

Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

I have a Sony Microvault, 128MB, USB2. It works fine at home plugged into my USB1.X port and worked fine on my office machine until we upgraded from Win98 to XP. When I plug the pen drive into either one of the two USB ports on the front of my office computer, it locks up. I can't move the mouse, can't ctrl-alt-delete my way out of it, etc. This is the case even if no other USB devices are plugged in (I thought it was a power issue) anywhere on the machine. However, when I plug the pen drive into the USB port on the BACK of my office computer, it works fine.

Obviously this isn't a big deal, since I'm able to get to the data on my drive... but has anyone else dealt with this? Any thoughts on what could be so special about the USB ports on the front of my machine?

Thanks,
Lisa

My wife and I both have the x1 Extreme 20mf. Last week I ran the update called "Intel Management Engine 12.0 Firmware for Windows 10 64-bit - ThinkPad P1, X1 Extreme 12.0.22.1310" because it was labeled critical. Since then both computers are having a problem. Maybe 50% of the time when booting up, the computer fails to recognize the wifi module. In device manager there is a yellow triangle next to the Intel 9560 wifi card. A simple uninstall/reinstall or disable/reenable fixes the problem and wifi works fine, but on next boot up maybe it won't. Again it happens about 50% of the time. It's possible this started happening after the upgrade to bios 1.18 as well, not sure. I did those both around the same time.  Additionally the computer just seems unstable on start up. The keyboard backlighting turns on and off like 3 times before the screen registers. Maybe that's normal or... I don't know. We're both running Windows 10, 64bit, professional build 1809 and bios 1.18. Is anyone else experiencing this?Is there anyway to roll back that firmware update? Is there any other solution? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yesterday, we got broadband access at a vacation house. I purchased and Apple Airport Extreme since we are all Mac Users (we have all Cisco routers at home and office, so maybe that was a mistake but I thought this would make life simple). I password protected the network.

I connected my MacBook Air, ipad 3 and iphone 4s yesterday. No problems and things are working perfectly.

Today, my wife tried to join the network and it says Self-Assigned IP address 169.x.x.x this device may not connect to the internet. So, I deleted the network, and tried again. I rebooted. I rebooted the Airport Extreme. I released DHCP under Advanced. Nothing worked.

I connected the computer to the router via an ethernet cable. The computer recognizes that it is connected to the internet but will not connect.

Today I tried to connect my kids iphones and computer and ipad to the network. I can't make any of them connect.

Is this a problem with the Airport Extreme? Should I return it? Or is this a problem of another kind?

Hey there guys/gals, I have a problem that has been happening on and off over the last year. Randomly my internet connection has been dropping. Sometimes it wont drop for 2 months, and then comes back with a vengeance where it drops 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks. When it does go out, all the lights that should be lit up on the modem and router are lit. And my computer says that I am connected to the internet, yet i can't connect to the internet with anything (PC, Xbox, Ipod). My PC and Xbox 360 are both on wired connections, Ipod is obviously wireless. Very unpredictable, and annoying. My ISP is Comcast.

Modem: Linksys Cable Modem with USB and Ethernet, Model # BEFCMU10
Router: D-Link 802.11g/2.4ghz Wireless Router (with wired connections as well) Model # DI-524 (not sure if that is the model number but it says it on the front)

Computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a little disappointed with the HDMI output on my 1/2yr old ASUS G51Vx-X3A laptop. A couple issues:

1) Every time I want to connect my laptop to an external HDTV I have to plug in the HDMI cable to the TV and laptop and turn on the TV and make sure that it is on the correct input, and then restart my laptop. If I don't do all these things the connection won't work. In other words, you can't just plug it in and have it work instantly like the VGA output (or even S-Video output on my older laptop). This is terribly inconvenient.

I'm thinking part of the problem could be due to the fact that there are two pieces of software trying to control the video output: nVidia's display driver and ASUS' software that can change the display output using the 'Fn + F8' key combo. Any ideas here?

2) The HDMI picture is far inferior to VGA picture I get on the same HDTV. The HDMI picture is extremely oversaturated and way too contrasty, and also doesn't quite look as sharp. I was expecting the opposite; I think of VGA as an ancient technology and HDMI to be the newer and better thing. Is there something wrong or does this sound reasonable? (Even if the picture is worse I'll continue to use HDMI because it transmits audio+video and most TVs don't have VGA inputs)

A:HDMI out is very finicky on my laptop

Well first, they never promised you Plug n Play with HDMI. This only works with USB and SATA (with SATA drivers). SATA running in IDE emulation is not hot swappable either.

This is sort of new tech, and the video drivers associated with HDMI computer video output, seem to be a mix of everything from a bit idiosyncratic, to outright incompetent.

The color saturation issues should be correctable in the driver control panel, but don't expect to not have to readjust them when your using the laptop with its own screen.

Anyone have trouble with the door of your CDROM not wanting to open? After many attempts sometimes it will open and the CD works just fine. I think I probably need a new one but maybe its a software problem in the drivers. It came with the CPU so I do not have a floppy or CD to reinstall anything. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:{SOLVED} Finicky CDROM

The door opening is a mechanical issue. If it doesn't always open, it is starting to die.

Luckily CDROMs are pretty cheap.

Hello all. I have recently started having problems powering on my XPS8700. Basically it seems like the power button on the case is finicky. Pressing the button normally doesn't produce any results but I have found that if I kind of tap it or press it rapidly it works. I made sure the connections were tight. I am assuming its probably the switch itself. Anyway if it sounds like the switch can anyone help me with the part number? I cant seem to find it on the dell site or Google.

Though if it doesn't sound like the power button I am all ears.

A:Finicky power button

If you have you reseated the internal power button module cable, and still no go, then the part number is F7M7N.

Just got a new X1 Extreme (Gen2, 20QV, i7-9850H) and it has been working perfectly for a couple of days. Yesterday a notification appeared that i should upgrade the Intel Management Engine Interface. After that upgrade the Wifi is extremely (!) slow and its almost useless. Especially the "upload" maxes out around 1Mbit/s. Can i downgrade the ME drivers somehow? This is the current details:Intel Management Engine Interface 1914.12.0.1256ME firmware 12.0.40.1433BIOS 1.25 (2019-08-19) Thanks for any advice on how to solve this.

Hi all

First, I'd like to say thanks to SNG4 and Dave for the links, I'd never have been able to figure out the information I needed without their links. If you don't have SIW and are a simpleton like me, I highly recommend it.

That being said.
Problem
My DVD burner is also a Reader. It's supposed to read and burn both DVD and CD's. I ran into a problem two days ago. The unit stopped recognizing DVDs full storage capabilities. What I mean by this is that it read and recognized the DVD, but read that it could hold 0mb. I followed the thread written by PeteLord and tried to get some of those suggestions to work, but to no avail. What's now happening, is that the Unit will no longer even recongnize DVDs or CDs using the drag and drop method. I can burn DVDs and CDs using Nero, but not Roxio. My mind is losing it. I need to use the Roxio, because the Nero only burns files, while the Roxio suite is the Program I use for Slideshows and Movies that I produce for Photography. I've used it for a long time, and that's why this new issue is irritating me.

Solutions (not really, i guess) I've tried.
I wish I could post links, maybe i'll try to find out how, but the thread by PeteLord, like I said earlier had the information that I followed. I uninstalled reinstalled software, the actual unit, deleted lower thingys in regedit, restarted after that. I've tried just one software at a time (Nero then Roxio). ... Read more

I'm working on the machine mentioned above and although it will "turn on" every time I press the power button, it sometimes halts after the eMachines splash screen and justs sits there... a black, motionless, nothing... Anyway,... other times, it will go on to launch Windows and perform normally. This indecisiveness is a personality trait that I've got to get rid of. This machine is running XPHE SP2, has 512 RAM, and a Celeron 3.2. Is this a hardware problem or does this ring a software bell for someone? I really have no idea where to begin with this type of problem. As always, thanks!

So I just got my x1 extreme gen 2 the other day (the 1080p panel), and on brightnesses 30% or lower, I ALWAYS notice my screen dim or adjust brightness whenever I use another task. For example, switching between a browser tab on chrome, my screen will dim or go brighter depending on the web page. When I minimize a window, the screen will decide to dim a little bit. Another example is whenever there's a prompt to open a program, after I hit yes (or no), the screen brightness adjustment after the transition becomes very very apparent.. It's VERY frustrating and I haven't found a fix for it yet. The only option I have to adjust display in the power settings are "turn display off after". I also have no option for adaptive brightness, so at this point im wondering what's causing this issue when this device itself is brand new. I am on windows 10 home edition.
