is it possible to get x250 expresscard capable?

Q: is it possible to get x250 expresscard capable?

Hi guys, I'm using a X250 for work, for almost a year, nothing to complain, moreover after performing a level 0 swap to linux (Fedora 23) , everithing working (keyboard backlight included, all ports, everithing) no flaws......until..... I nead to catch some signals from a vibrometer and other instruments RS-232, serial 9pins (I'm a mechanical engineer, I really need to do that stuff anyway).I have an old serial/pci express card and I wonder if anyone have done this before, I mean trying to give X250 express card (32mm) capability. I've browsed into the available docking stations for X250 and there're nothing like serial or express card compliant. Please help me dodging the plan B (which is a BORING log of a huge dose of hand writen vibration data)Regards,Pedro

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: is it possible to get x250 expresscard capable?

I assume you mean 34mm. There are USB ExpressCard readers and USB serial ports. Having said that, I think there is a good chance some may not do what you want. When you start talking about hardware devices that need serial ports, those are often devices that have their own drivers and legacy communication software. My experience has been that those drivers usually require that the serial port be configured as Com1, 2, 3 or 4 using the legacy addresses that date back to the 1980's. Those devices need to have something like a 16550 UART in order to map to the legacy addresses that were used for Com ports on the earliest PCs. All the USB devices I have seen map to virtual ports that cannot be used for the legacy addresses. There are cards that have 16550-compatible UARTS but they tend to be harder to find and more expensive. If you need legacy addresses, I would guess that a USB serial port would have no hope of success. A USB express card would probably work with a 16550-compatible serial card. I say that because I use such a card in my W540 for a chip reader and the express card slot in the machine is mounted as a USB device. If I were looking, I would try something like this:

but I have not tried it and cannot guarantee success.

This might be a really stupid question. I'm helping a friend replace his discontinued motherboard, but he's unable to tell me the CPU it used, aside from the socket (LGA775).

His original mobo was this

The closest match I could find was this

The latter is a bit updated, but it doesn't support hyperthreading.

The only info he could give me was that it was a Intel Dual Core 1.8 ghz, but that makes it either a Pentium D 1.8ghz or a core 2 duo 1.8 ghz. Pretty sure Core2 duo doesn't support HT, but I belive some Pentium D did. If his CPU is indeed a HT capable Pentium D, will it still function on the latter MoBo, despite the fact that the Mobo is lacking in terms of HT support?

A:Hyperthread-capable CPU, but Non-capable Motherboard

The latter supports all, and more, CPUs that the original one does:
vs http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Support/CPU_Support_Model.aspx?detailid=858&MenuID=69&LanID=0
He'll have no trouble running the CPU. Except for having a craptastic ECS motherboard but that's no news for them.

Hello All, I did some searching but not found an answer to this - What is a good expresscard to put into my T410S to make it capable of USB 3.0 connectivity? Reason for asking is that I saw some older threads but people kept bringing up that they were not sure if the T410S bios was able to handle USB 3.0, which made me confused - Isn't that what the expresscard is meant to provide...Is there something needed in the bios as well? Thanks in advance!RegardsRajiv

The P50 expresscard slot is dead space on the left side of my laptop, and I hoped to try a USB 3.0 card. I understand expresscard USB is very limited in ability to power connected devices, but would suit my intention to support (2) low-power Logitech always-in wireless receiver dongles for mouse/keyboard and for headphone. At eBay none available state support for Win10, but I'd seen online comments from a Win10 user that native Win10 drivers will work. I ordered a 2 port USB 3.0 card for 3.8 (USD 5.00) from China with free cheap postage that took almost one month intra-Asia. On Win10Pro, on install the card is recognized by Device Manager under USB as a Hub Controller; but shows as not working. Attempts to update drivers fail (error message), but this step is unnecessary. On reboot it works. Two USB ports gained. Useful for travel, while the left side dongle provides better line-of-sight while at home connected to the dock.

I have have been using an Expresscard audio interface with my  T410 i7 on Windows 7 64bit for years without any problems. I was delighted when I got my P50 as it also has the expresscard slot. However it does not like my audio interface. For example when I load the music production software it crashes the program. I have tried the two different expresscard setting in the BIOS. Neither of these make any difference.  If it works under Windows 7 64 on the T410 without any problems then I would presume that it's a hardware issue with the P50 and my older audio interface. I wonder if there might be a BIOS updates that could sort this or whether the incompatibility might be un-fixable?

I'm wanting to do a uStream broadcast with 4 different USB HD WebCams. I have a Sony Vaio laptop with 3 USB Ports (I think they all use one controller) so I've tried using a USB hub and splitting them around the ports as best I can.

Am I right in thinking it will make no difference to performance because all the traffic will go through the same controller? And if so is it also true that if I add an ExpressCard with USB 2 / USB3 capability this would be an effective way of splitting the traffic and improving performance?

I wasn't sure if a USB ExpressCard simply routed the traffic via the existing USB Controller or if it handles it some other way. Would using an USB ExpressCard give me a performance advantage?

Hi all, I don't know if it is even possible anymore, but back in the day of the T40, the expresscard slot (or PC card slot?  I don't know what the difference is, if any) could hold many things, including a GPU.  (I even remember discussion of this back when the T510 was new.)  What can the modern Expresscard slot hold?  Can it still effectively mount a GPU?  A card reader isn't necessary with the SD slot underneath it. What do you guys use it for on you laptops (preferably P series, but any would do.) Thanks.

I have a Toshiba laptop, P205-S6267. It only has an Expresscard slot, so I bought an adapter in order to use my Verizon broadband card, which is the older smartcard. I deleted and reinstalled the DuelAdapter software and patch and it did not help.

Any suggestions?

So I have a firewire audio interface which hooks up via a firewire expresscard. Despite my Toshiba Satellite A355 recognizing the card and mixer, when I go to record nothing happens. The tech guy's only idea was that it could be an IRQ issue as it shares "16" with a couple other things. Anyway, I tried to change its IRQ, but the manual release or whatever is greyed out. I'm a technical person so don't hold back heh. Windows 10 on x220i i3. I bought a 2-Port Flush Mount ExpressCard/54 USB 3.0 Cardhttps://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/sets/ECUSB3S254F_Manual/ECUSB3S254F.pdf & a nice Pioneer Electronics USA Slim External Blu-Ray Writer (14700365BDR-XD05)  The drive works fine if I plug both the USB ports into the 2.0 ports on the laptop. I get all kinds of crazy behavior if I used the ExpressCard. Crazy behavior =- Drive disappearing in my computer and then reappearing. Any program that tries to use it sees the same.- there were some device manager issues with a USB XHCI compliant host controller I keep bouncing back and forth blaming the laptop's USB 3 capability, to the ExpressCard slot not being able to deliver enough power or not being set up right in windows despite running the latest programs from startech site. Since the drive works in USB 2.0 mode on the built in USB ports I'm trying to find some way to get this working on USB 3 which makes it look mostly like the ExpressCard to me. Thoughts or ideas? Does the X220i have enough USB + expresscard slot power to support the drive and the USB3 expresscard?

I saw a USB to ExpressCard (universal slot) converter which sounds just like what I need, but the documentation says that "only supports USB-based ExpressCards, not PCI Express-based"

How do I know if my ExpressCard is USB or PCI based? It's a Huawei E800, a wireless connection card that uses a SIM card like the ones in GSM phones. I couldn't find anything on the Huawei site.

A:I need to use an ExpressCard, but my laptop has no slot for it.

Hi there,

It sounds like that documentation might have been translated. Haha. it seems that what they meant was that the Express Card you plug in will be detected as a USB device, which may or may not cause problems with programs that will use it. Also, that means that the card cannot be used outside of Windows, such as in DOS or for booting purposes.

Hope this helps.

i have bought a dual esata II expresscard 34, si3132, made by apiotek to go into my acer 5920 laptop, running xp, to connect to a esata caddy which has a 1tb hard drive. when i plug the card in it says 'raid controller' and tries to load the driver for it. i have let it load these drivers once but i needed a system restore to remove them (plus i dont want raid).

apparently, through searching through guides, i need the 'satalink controller' to show in device manager (which it doesn't do). i have the driver cd with the card but updating the raid controller with the sata driver prompts a message saying this will not work and all that shows in 'scsi and raid controller' is silicon image sil 3132 softraid5 controller.

ive been to silicon image and apiotek website and downloaded the drivers for the chipset but they do the same as above.
is the card faulty or do i need to update my bios or change anything to get it to work?

Would someone help me on this compatibility question? We have a Lenovo R500 laptop with built-in Thinkpad Wifi (BGN), and this wireless adapter keeps getting me disconnected because of weak signal. The wireless connection works flawlessly for our two other laptops (those are not from Lenovo). I guess that this Thinkpad Wifi is some cheap and sucky wireless adapter. I want to buy an external wireless card for my R500, but I'm not sure which one will be compatible with my Lenovo R500.
I don't know whether my laptop supports 32-bit BusCard interface because I see this on its descrption
System port: 3 USB, 1394a, ExpressCard Slot (54mm) + Option
Slot 54mm (SmartCard, Multimedia Card Reader, PC
Card), Microphone/line-in, Headphone/line-out,
VGA, lock slot, Integrated Camera (option)

It looks like my laptop does have ExpressCard slot, so it is compatible with Wireless ExpressCard. But those are more expensive than the 32-bit Cardbus, so I'd like to know if the description above says that it also supports 32-bit cardbus.
If anyone has any suggestion which one I should buy, that'd be great. I really appreciate any help. I have Vista on my Lenovo.

my laptop has a espresscard54 slot and i would like to get an adapter to connect a PCI express video card. i am looking for somthing that will cost $200 or less

A:expresscard to PCIe adapter

I've seen a few adapters like your asking, but they are kinda hard to find, and run about $600-700+ Asus is making the XG station soon supposedly, which will likely be less than $700, but I don't really know what pricing will be, but I'd guess still above $200. Also, using an expresscard to pci-e setup reduces the pci-e bandwidth to pci-e x1, so there's no real point to using a really high end card, since the single pci-e lane will be a bottleneck. Most any pci-e x16 card will be better than integrated though....

I have been looking at USB cards for my X220 to mostly leverage recent hardware with a faster port so far I have seen cards with as many as 4 USB 3.0 ports for the slot, but the thiner 2 and 3 port are easier to leave installed with no hunk of plastic getting caught in a backpack I also was looking at USB 3.1 type C which does not seem to be avalable for ExpressCard yet as far I can tell. Anybody notice one like that around? The are lots of choices for legacy devices for the ExpessCard slot. Probally 50 different classes alone.

Hi all, I have not yet removed the (green-tinted transparent) plastic cover from the side of my P50.  I am talking about the one that covers my Expresscard and SD card slots.  I had initially not known that the Expresscard slot has a spring-loaded door on it, and was keeping the plastic on as a dust cover (especially since it doesn't cover the vent) until I had something to populate the slot.  However, over Thanksgiving Weekend, I noticed that the Expresscard does, in fact, have a spring-loaded closure.  The SD slot (halfway cut into the slope on the bottom) has a rather big opening (because of the slope of the plastic.) (Please see the pictures:  http://oi68.tinypic.com/10f2492.jpg,  http://oi68.tinypic.com/r7qcr5.jpg,  http://oi64.tinypic.com/33d8109.jpg,  http://oi63.tinypic.com/egsi6c.jpg, and http://oi64.tinypic.com/jrxmav.jpg)My concern is dust, crumbs, and random debris getting in and harming something. My question is:Is it worth the bother of plugging an external SD card reader into a USB port to keep dust out of that SD card slot?  Should I populate that slot with an SD-to-micro-SD adapter to plug the hole, and then just swap it out for a SD chip when I need to, not worrying about safely removing the adapter, as it isn't a memory-storage device?Or should I just go ahead, remove the plastic, and not worry about dust, etc potentially building up inside it? Thanks very much!

Hi all, I hope I'm posting in the correct forum.
I also tried a search within this forum with no luck.

I'm looking to purchase a larger 3.5" external HDD for Imaging and storage. My current EXT HDD is 120GB which has become much too small for my current needs.
I've done some reading about usb 3.0 transfer rates and some articles say that the rate is much slower when using an Express card adapter.

I'd would really like to hear some advice on the performance of a 2.0 to 3.0 upgrade VIA an Express/54 laptop card or if there is another way to upgrade to USB 3.0... Possibly using an existing USB 2.0 port???

I'd also love to hear from members that have purchased 1TB or larger USB 3.0 EXT HDD's (I'm leaning towards a 1TB drive because of the cost) and how the transfer rate is with the 2.0 to 3.0 adapter card.

I have an HP DV6885SE laptop/Win7 Pro with the Express/54 card slot and 3 USB 2.0 slots.

I'll be using Acronis True Image for the backups.
Thanks to all for any help and hardware suggestions.

A:USB2.0 to USB 3.0 ExpressCard help needed for new external HDD

Since you have a laptop, you'll only get USB 3.0 one of two ways. Either by a built-in USB 3.0 port, or an Express Card add-in. I would say that an Express Card add-in would still be quite a bit faster than a USB 2.0 port, so I wouldn't have any worries about it.

You definitely won't find an adapter for a USB 2.0 port, because the data still has to flow through the USB 2.0 port. I don't know iff hand the performance capabilities of Express Card, but you could easily compare the throughput of a USB 2.0 port to the stated throughput of the USB 3.0 Express Card.

Hi All,

Some possibly significant preamble:

System always ran great until a few weeks ago when the internal wifi card quit. Turned out (from getting a replacement) that it wasn't the card, but that the laptop stopped recognizing that it had a wifi card installed. Tried restoring a backup of C:\ from a couple weeks prior when everything was honky dory but the [new] wifi still could not be detected. So chalked that up to a fluke hardware/mb issue and got a USB mini Wifi adapter.

Only now the internal SDCard reader AND the Expresscard slot are no longer seen by Windows either! USB ports still working (so far?!). But when I go to Computer (FileMgr) there are only the hard drive partitions and the DVD listed and no matter what I pop into either port (SDcard or an adapter in the Expresscard slot) I get nuthin.

Tried sfc /scannow and got 100% integrity.

Any ideas?

Oddly and FTR this all resolved itself. In case any of the following ever helps anyone else...

First I opened the machine and cleaned off the old thermal paste and applied new, which took care of the heat problem I was having that preceded all this. I also blew out the machine but it was clean already. The thermal paste however was dried out and the machine (which always ran hot being AMD/nVidia) had been running VERY hot.... like 165-187F when just piddling around the desktop. After applying new thermal paste it's running 135-141F on average.

I also removed the CMOS battery for a few hours, then replaced it.

When I reassembled the machine I left out the internal Wifi card since it wasn't being recognized, but when I booted my systray icons were missing and screwed up. So I powered down and reinstalled the wifi card [and might have switched the wifi antenna cables on the card, but from what I read it shouldn't matter which post they are on]. When I booted the systray icons were right again.

So don't know if ANYTHING there had anything to do with the machine snapping out of the funk it was in and getting itself back together, but when I was troubleshooting a problem with the USB Wifi Adapter not reconnecting after sleep, I was in Device Mgr and saw the internal wifi was back again! It had been missing from Dev Mgr for 2 weeks, ever since it "disappeared" from the system.

So I uninstalled the USB wifi drivers and reconfigured the internal wifi card, and it wor... Read more

The BIOS setting is untoughed. (Verion 1.31). Still it is not working(no tone when pluging or unpluging). So this Expresscard slot on my T420s is not working at all. Is there any driver I need to install? Many thanks!!! 0B06026 VBB INTEL CORE I7-2640M PROC           45M3090 VBB GENUWIN7PROFES.64           0A68625 SBB GW7P64 E           0A68976 SBB 14HD+LDBCKLTANTGLDSPMBBBRD           0B06390 SBB NVIN12PNS2OPG1GICI7-2640MP           45M4572 VBB 4GBPC3-10600DDR3 1333SODMM           45M4839 SBB KEYBOARDUS ENGLISH           0A68978 SBB FINGERPRINT READER           0A68993 SBB 720P HD CAM+INTGR MCRPH           0A68992 SBB IT160GB SLDSTDRV,SRATA&nbs... Has anyone found a cover of some sort for the huge ExpressCard gaping hole on the side of the laptop? It bothers me to see a hole on the side of the laptop and I'm concerned about dust (and dog hair) getting in. I've looked online all over for a cover but found none. I'd rather not have to buy and plug in a ExpressCard that I will never use for it will likely consume power when on battery even if I'm not actively using it. Thanks for any solution to cover up the hole aside from the scotch tape solution that my laptop arrived with

Good evening Can anyone assist me in locating the driver for ExpressCard/34 slot? thank you

A:pro book 45300s ExpressCard/x64 slot

You don't need the driver for the slot. That is just a bus interface for the notebook's system board. What you will need is  the OS-appropriate driver for the card that you want to use in the slot. For example, I have a couple of ExpressCard wifi adapters that I used when they were the only external wifi adapter available. If i put one in the slot I will need to install the driver for the card.

As disclosed at WARNING: HP ZBook 15/17 G2 has non-functional expresscard slot (Tech|Infero DIY eGPU area) The ZBOOK 15/17 G2 series looked to be the perfect candidate for me to do EC and TB2 testing of DIY eGPUs with. Unfortunately it looks like the G2 series has a non-functional expresscard slot. Both my own testing with a 17G2 and that of @hishamkali  with a 15 G2 here where he says "I have noticed that the express card slot on my unit seems to not work confirming this to be the case.My analysis below points to the introduction of the Z Turbo Drive (x2 2.0 PCIe SSD) in the G1->G2 revision as being the cause of the lost expresscard slot functionality. The ZBook 15 G1 has a working expresscard slot as can be seen athttp://www.tinhte.vn/threads/hoi-egpu-external-desktop-gpu-for-laptops-mo-rong-card-do-hoa-gan-ngoai...Wonder how HP will fix this since they are advertising the G2 systems with an expresscard slot? Will they install revised boards for affected users? Otherwise they could transplate a TB2 chip onto the TB1 systemboard. Though the use of a G1 systemboard means no Z Turbo drive functionalilty. Or else affected users could seek a refund and acquire a 15" Lenovo W541 instead which does have a EC2 slot and a TB2 port.Analysis details below: ZBook 17 G2 QM87 Southbridge port layout (max = 8 ports) port1 (0:1c.0) @ x4 2.0 - Thunderbolt2 port. I have a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop.  I have it running WIndows 10 Professional. I realize that Dell doesn't support Win 10 for this model, but everything seems to be working except a USB 3.0 Express Card (StarTech) that I purchased.  The support guy there thinks there may be a problem because the "Generic CardBus Controller" is installed under "PCMCIA Adapters" in device manager. I am more than willing to try a Windows 7 Driver ()It has worked on other things, but I don't see one listed at Dell Support site. My USB 3.0 controller initially comes up fine, but as soon as you stick a device into it, it fails with the error -

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Device Timeout}The specified I/O operation on %hs was not completed before the time-out period expired.

Any point in the right direction would be much appreciated!

Hi There,
I would like to use an ExpressCard, but my laptop doesn't have such a slot.  I see it is an option.  Is there a way to buy the part so that I can install it?
downloads.dell.com/.../latitude-e6540-laptop_owner's manual_en-us.pdf

A:Expresscard Slot for Dell Latitude E6540

This would be the part
However, if there's no opening in the chassis, it means a different base assembly is required - meaning a complete tear-down of the system to install it.
All things considered, if that's required, consider buying a USB version of whatever you wanted to use the Expresscard slot for -- or if that's for a firewire device, consider replacing the device with a USB version.

Please forgive my long post, but it seems like a lot of threads seem to start with a short post and then people have to ask questions about the details. Hopefully the length of the post won't discourage anyone from replying.

Description of Problem

Windows usually will not detect my Firewire ExpressCards when they are inserted while it's running. Sometimes it will not even detected them if they are inserted before booting. There are times when Windows will detect them if they have just recently been disconnected using the icon in the system tray and then physically removed and reinserted. It also seems like Windows will detect the cards more readily if it is restarting after it recently has been running. Letting it sit overnight and restarting seems to reduce the chances the card will be detected. These cards are advertised as being capable of hot plugging.

A:Windows 7 H P 64 intermittently not detecting Firewire ExpressCard

Hello scoco, welcome to the forum

A lot of people seem to have problems similar to yours with both Firewire and USB I think XP works better with these devices as it is a more "tolerant" OS than Windows 7 this is because Microsoft has tightened up the standards in an attempt to stop problems with drivers and devices.

I think your problems are caused by the devices but cannot rule out drivers. I would go as far as to say that the SIIG NN-EC2022-S1 may not be compatible with 7.

The Rosewill card on the other hand should work, but I am unsure what to understand by hot swapping. I would read that the card should be permanently plugged in and the fire wire devices can then be swapped as and when without switching off the OS.

Okay, I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro 64Bit to windows 10 Pro 64bit.

Everything ran smooth and fine.
But my USB3 ports mounted on a Logilink product (Art. PC0058) PCI ExpressCard 2xUSB3 work only as power supply.
The error indicated by device manager point to USB Root hub (xHCI)
The screenshots are attached.
Can somebody help me ?

Regards Adrian

The solution are to download and install the new VIA_XHCI_Driver_V4.70C_AP from Viasite.
