Lenovo thinkpad l540 screen problem

Q: Lenovo thinkpad l540 screen problem

Lenovo Support Team! It's almost a week now since this problem has started and I would like to know what the source of this problem is. Troubleshootin I have done so far as the problem still continues;1. I tried to change the os but the problem went on2. Some technicians told me that there was a problem on the VGA chip on the motherboard but it seemed that there was no problem in the chip after the test.3. Then felt the problem was HDD; I change HDD and PC returned to its normal condition but three days later the problem repeatedlyAnyone who has any idea about this problem would ask for help Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First of all, let me explain the problem from the beginning. When everything is normal on the computer in the morning, when I run the computer in the morning, the screen is black, but I noticed that the computer is working. When I look carefully, the screen is black, but I saw it. I saw the screen is distorted. I put the screen back on the screen and I saw that it was black. The screen was showing for fifteen minutes before but now it has not. The screen that I removed from the working computer is black screen and when I look carefully, something appears.

Running Windows 10.  TYPE 20AV-CTO1WW After having performed the Lenovo update (as advised by the software, done this many times before) the laptop is now in a state in which it will continually restart, with the message "Configuration changed - restart the system" shown during the cycle. I have tried to break this cycle by pressing various keys, but no luck there.  I then removed the main battery, AC power, and CMOS battery, and all this did was add the warning "0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time Settings" to the above message.  It won't boot from a recovery USB drive I made months ago for this computer. Long story short, a Lenovo update bricked my computer.  It was working just fine before the update, and now it's a doorstop.  I've seen that this error has plagued many ThinkPad owners, and the usual excuse is a motherboard problem.  I really don't see how that's the issue. Anyone got anything?

Dear Lenovo Community, we are experiencing major performance drops when chaining 2 Displays using displayport 1.2 on a L540. The performance drops to like 1-10 FPS in windows. We tried to fix the problem with using the newst firmware / drivers and bios update. Turns out it didnt help at all.See attachment for the stats of the machine. The strange part about this is that we are using the exact same setup a L540 (same stats) and same displays, newst firmware, drivers for another employee without any issues. we are using 2x DellUltraSharpU2415 Displays. (chaining from one Display to another with Displayport cables and enabling displayport 1.2) If anyone knows a solution to this problem, please share it. thanks in advance. sincerly /nik.

Is there much of a Difference Between the Thinkpad T540P and the Thinkpad L540? Besides the processor? Do they look similar as to the keypad, touchpad, and the display working. Will I see any difference since I currently own a T540P. From the picture I have seen they look similar but again pictures can misrepresent the actual laptop. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in Advance...Oneida101

A:What is the Differences between a Thinkpad T540P and a Thinkpad L540?

Main differences:

- actually most of CPUs are same. Difference comes to individual model
- case material used (L540 = PC/ABC plastics, T540p = glass fibre reinforced plastics
- depending on model, T540p is usually bit thinner and has marginally less weight
- T540p has UltraBay with removable ODD (that can be changed for 2nd HDD), while L540 has fixed ODD that can not be exchanged
- T540p has 2 USB 3.0 ports, while L540 has 1
- T540p has (optionally) backlit keyboard, whil L540 does not
- T540p has optional IPS 3K display, L540 does not ...
- they share some "normal" screens, so experience should be identical 8beside the one 3K)
- keyboards are mostly same (beside backlit one)

Hello there!I've been having some issues with my screen on 2 gen X1 Carbon - it freezes and sometimes it starts to flash at the edges after I close my notebook and open it again, so I have to try to move it into the right position so it can unfreeze. Sometimes pressing on the certain places helps, at the bottom of the display near these dark lines. First I thought that the problem is in the display cable, so I installed a new one, but it didn't help. I noticed that touchscreen works fine even when display is blacked out. What should I do, maybe someone had some simular issues? Sorry for pics quality, I can attach better ones if needed. Thanks for any help!

I installed a ssd m2 of Transcend model 420s. The Thinkpad L540 got a success. The pictures I have taken below. However there is a problem with the m2 drive on the L540 which is its very high temperature cause I think because the m2 slot of the L540 is designed too close to the L540's CPU. This in the long run is very bad for the M2 SSD.

A:M2 SSD on thinkpad l540 too hot

I searched and there are other similar reports but no fixes.  Some responses say it will shorten life, and some say it doesn't matter.  I looked at Transcend's datasheet and they say that normal operating temperature is between 32C and 70C so if it were mine, I wouldn't worry

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I'm considering building an external GPU setup for my laptop (thinkpad L540), wanted to check if anyone had done it. I saw it listed on techinferno's list of candidate systems, so I'm assuming it is possible. Does the L540's PCI slot allow for this sort of thing (or might there be another way of doing it?)? I guess my main concern is that there's some aspect of that connection that won't support an eGPU and this whole thing would be a waste. Whether you've done it or not, any insight is appreciated!

I am trying to 'dual display' my L540 to my TV. I have a mini dvi port (or whatever it is!) converter plugged into that port with an HDMI lead plugged into that and then into an HDMI socket on my TV. I assumed this would then be dead easy to just select dual monitors or similar and the laptop output would be duplicated on the TV. However I'm not getting anything on the TV. Is there some other setting I need to change other than in Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Display>Change Display Settings? Under Muliple Displays I select Duplicate these displays and Apply but all that happens is that the display resolution on the laptop goes really big ie nothing appears on my TV. It feels like the laptop is not even detecting anything attached to the mini DVI port - would this be driver related or is there something else I'm overlooking? Really want to fix this as I'm hoping to be able to play Youtube vids (with sound) from the laptop through the TV and maybe also Amazon movies. Any help gratefully received!!

I have a thinkpad L540 and I did a function (fn) and control (ctrl) key swap in Bios and use with a function lock on. Whenever I have both of these on, certain function hotkeys such as mute, lower volume, settings, and the signal/wifi hotkeys don't work. When I set the fn and control key to original, or don't use function lock, all hotkeys work fine, but I find it quite inconvenient to use my laptop without these features. I've tried to download the hotkey integration, or the power management driver, but they haven't worked. Has anyone else had these problems?or Can anyone give me any possible solutions?

I recently got a used thinkpad L540. The previous owner apparently had to redownload windows 10 while trying to change start up setting for using linux. I'm using windows 10 on it.I did the function (fn) and control key swap in BIOS and everything was working fine for a while, but one day, most of the hot keys stopped working whenever I have the function lock on (which I like to keep it on to use the usual function keys). For hot keys such as mute and lowering volume, whenever I press those keys with the function key (which is originally the control key, since I did fn-ctrl swap), to use the hot keys while on function lock, I get a beep sound and nothing happens. I have swapped the function key and control key back to how it was, and it wasn't a problem, but I really don't like the function and control key position in this laptop, and use the usual function keys often enough that this problems bothers me. Oh and there is no problems when I have the function lock off. I've tried downloading the keyboard driver for thinkpad, which it seems like this computer was missing, and this problems still continues

I've had my L540 for a couple of years, and it was starting to show its age. I copied my necessary files onto a hard drive and started a full factory reset just to clean the thing out. It started out all fine, but the progress has frozen. The screen shows the startup "Lenovo" logo and "Resetting this PC 99%", but it's been stuck like this for about 12 hours. The loading wheel animation is still going. Not sure exactly if or what I should do about this, but the fact that it's been stuck for so long is a little concerning. Any advice? I'm a little scared to mess with it too much because I know it's in a delicate state during factory reset.

I've been getting the PXE-E61 "Media test failure. Check cable" problem for a while now. I bypassed the problem by installing Ubuntu through a flash drive. With ubuntu installed the computer runs ok, but now I'd like to get Windows 10. There's a few problems.  1. My flash drives doesn't work anymore with the comp. It can't seem to finish copying files so it can't copy the windows 10 flash drive installer.  2. I thought the problem might be my hard drive. I bought a new hard drive and it fit fine, but now I get the PXE-E61 error again. Maybe it's because there's no OS on the new drive. I could really use some advice. It seems like I need to fix my comp before I can figure out how to install Windows 10.

This is an old issue, but looks like Lenovo still has not removed this offending firmware from the site (or update it or add a fix). Anyone got any resolve on this issue, or is the "send in your device" the only option? This looks like getting punished for allowing Vantage to continually update your notebook. And in process, "killing" an essential part of it (TrackPoint & Touchpad). In my case, ID of touchpad is TM-2964-1 (Synaptic, not 100% sure). When re-trying to apply firmware PR254199, update fails with error code 0x69. This is the official update that causes this failure:https://support.lenovo.com/us/th/downloads/ds121241 Dated 27 Mar 2017. Direct download links:README file: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/j4g502ww.txtFirmware Patch: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/j4g502ww.exe Same issue happened on X1 Carbon Gen.6, but there, different touch pad & track point are used and those updates do not help. Tried it.  HELP? Anyone? Regards,R.

I have had this notebook for a few years and it has performed well. Today however I brought it out of hibernation mode, and it beeped. The keyboard and touchpad were not working. I restarted the computer and it beeped as it was loading, giving a message that said "Keyboard not detected." Once windows booted up, same problem. I shut down and restarted, same problem. I then unplugged everything, took the battery out, put it back together, and now it works fine. I'm a little concerned about this. Is this an indication of a possible hardware failure, or could something else more innocuous be causing it? Thanks in advance!

More details about the symptoms: laptop's screen would goes black (you can see some back-light so the monitor is functioning) and there is NO pointer / cursor. It is intermittent: once a week or so, up to several times a day.Suspending (closing the lid or using the power button) and reactivating restores the system to where it was when the screen went darkSometimes, waiting 30 minutes or more would take me back to a functional machine. While the screen is dark, I can hear the fan and other noises from the laptop itself.Laptop doesn't shut down, the screen is black (but backlit) and there is no mouse pointer.I can use Remote Desktop to connect with the laptop and all of my applications are still open and functioning.  I can log into the laptop (blindly) and type into notepad and then connect with Remote Desktop and see that they keystrokes made it through to the application. When I have an external monitor set up, the external monitor functions as it should even when the laptop monitor goes black. In addition, the screen will randomly "flash" or "blink" for reason I can detect.

Hello Everyone, I am considering the purchase of a specific power bank for my L540 laptop. The product is the Vinsic 30000mah. I can't seem to get clarification on whether my Lenovo laptop will successfully hook up with the PB and take the charge. As far as I can tell, the PB has a lot of muscle and is well-recommended. The PB comes with 8 adaptors; for Lenovo products it lists a  7.9*10 mm adaptor. It says it has 3 output ports: 1 DC output up to 19V 3.5A, with a max output current of 4.5A; and 2 Smart USB outputs, with output up to 5V 2.4A.  It also says it has 2 Input ports: 1 DC input and 1 Micro USB input. I am uncertain if the specs on my L540 make it compatible with the features listed shown above. Can someone with expertise advise me if I'm Ok to go ahead with the purchase based on the features? Many thanks!
