Windows 7 Acer laptop unable to boot, unable to use safemode

Q: Windows 7 Acer laptop unable to boot, unable to use safemode

When I try to start my laptop the 'Acer' logo flashes with 'press f2 to enter setup, f12 to change boot device, then to a black screen with a flashing cursor but unable to type, then screen turns off and it just repeats over and over. I'm unable to start in safe mode. I don't have the original Windows disc and no access to another computer, at this stage. I have a wireless keyboard and when I plug in the dongle am able to use it.

If I press f2 then I'm able to access 'Phoenix Securecore Tiano Setup' with tabs for Information, Main, Security, Boot and Exit.

Before the laptop refused to start it was having an error about not being able to write to drive. I ran two programs, one anti malware and the other I think was Glary. I was able to start both in normal and safe mode at this stage.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Dumbed down advice would be great!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need help.
My laptop was working fine earlier. I turned it off, went to go do something else, and then came back and turned it on again.
The computer boots up to the windows 7 logo and then it just stays there. After a while, the computer blue screens to an unmountable boot volume error. After rebooting, I am greeted with two options. Launch windows normally or Launch startup repair. If I launch windows normally, it just does the whole error thing again. If I launch start up repair, it "loads windows files" and the leads to a black screen with no cursor.

Then, I rebooted the computer while pressing F8 which gave me many options. I thought the cause of the problem was the new drivers I installed(which were leshcat unifl drivers). So, I attempt to boot into Safe Mode. Unfortuanately, this also leads me to a blue screen(after freezing at a something/driver). I tried the repair the computer option, but that leads me to a black screen with no cursor.

The laptop came with no CDs so I don't have any windows 7 home cds.
I also modded the bios(insydehd 7750g for switchable graphics) around two weeks back for the drivers. Everything was working fine for those two weeks and then I am hit with this.

If it helps, I also sometimes had a blue screen after some start ups few days back, but I would always be able to start back up normally, now I can't.

Please help, I think I may be out of options.

A:Unable to Boot Up Windows 7 Acer 7750g laptop, leads to BSOD

Start first by resetting you bios to fail safe default .. then check to see if you are able to boot.

After some windows update the dedicated graphic card stopped working properly (AMD Radeon HD 7730M).Some time after that it got worse and stopped working, giving an infinite bluescreen-crash boot loop.
Restoring factory settings didn't help. Booting in safe mode, and then disabling the dedicated graphic card drivers/device worked.
Now there was an important windows update that had some gpu drivers updated (shouldn't have enabled automatic windows updates installation), and it broke again. Bluescreens and/or blackscreen are the result. Problem now is that I'm unable to boot the laptop in safemode. I can however boot with live usb/cd.
I'm pretty sure the problem is the same and disabling the second gpu and drivers is going to solve it, so any advice about how enable safe mode from the registry or any other way will be appreciated. So far smashing the f8 / shift+f8 key doesn't seem to work in windows 8.1, and it doesn't seem to load by itself.
Other info: Windows 8 (from factory), Intel4000 as main gpu, HD 7730M as secondary.

I was using my laptop casually, playing a game, listening to music, when I get this pop-up from McAfee, telling me that there are two threats to my computer. I disregard it, since I use Norton anyway, and I just did a full scan yesterday. When I click on the "x" button to close the McAfee window, my computer completely freezes, but the music continues playing (glitches a bit but continues.) until the song stops. Then the cursor completely freezes too. So I force my laptop to shut down by holding down the power button. I wait a little bit and turn it back on, to find out it's unable to boot.

I get this page that says:

Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

Status: 0xc00000e9

Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Then it gives me the option to press Enter to continue, or Esc to exit.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A-60 (model no PSA60C-JL100E, Windows XP Pro SP2, 512 Mo RAM) and I'm not able to boot into Windows XP anymore. I get the Toshiba logo and right after that, I see a cursor with no bips and then nothing but black. I can access the screen where I can choose to open in safe mode but choosing that option (or any other on that page) does nothing. I don't have a Windows XP CD, all they gave me when I bought it was the label with the serial key under the laptop. I'm really worried about losing important files I didn't have time to backup on my external hard disk...

Here's a recap of what I did yesterday before shutting it down for the night:

My computer was slow so all I wanted to do was to speed it up a bit before sending it to a computer shop for a RAM memory upgrade (+1Go). I produced a highjackthis log and after having it analyzed by the site www.hijackthis.de/fr , I opened msconfig and unchecked the following (which all are in your startup database so that's how I knew it was safe to unactivate them):

Hi, I have a problem with this laptop (which is 5 years old) that it can't start up, it just crashes without any error and just a black screen during the start up, no sounds or any sign. The cause of this might be because of a virus corrupting windows.
I have tried:
* Safe mode
* Testing the charging cable/battery
* Startup repair
* Disk check
Sometimes it will boot up after many tries but it will only last 1 minute before showing a black screen.
I would like to format my computer but I don't know how if it doesn't boot.
Is there any way to format my laptop without cd because the laptop did not come with a install cd.
*I would not mind if all my files are gone, I just don't want to buy another one*

Sorry I'm not good with fixing a computer, so please explain it for me to understand.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

A:How do I format Windows without cd if my laptop is unable to boot

Do you have a USB with the Windows Setup files? If you have, use it.

If you don't have the DVD,I'm afraid you'll have to buy one or buy a new laptop.

If available, however, you can order a recovery DVD from your computer manufacturer.

I have been having problems with my ACER notebook booting for a while. It first started to shut down automatically at various times, leaving me unable to successfully reboot for around ten minutes after automatic shut down. When computer did eventually reboot i encountered an option screen with the various booting options. After this happened for a while i was advised to use the system recovery disks. Halfway through a full recovery the computer shut down automatically. I am now left with a completely wiped hard drive, with no operating system and it still will not allow reinstall windows. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with my problems!! I am suspicious that i may have a boot sector virus. I have no idea what to do now... is there any hope of saving my computer?

Ive tried booting from my installation CD that i've purchased from Acer, but does nothing. And Yes My CD Drive is working, as well having this set as top priority in BIOS and CD is in good condition.

In addition to this, ive tried using the "Advanced Recovery options" from within Windows itself but when i go to click restart computer, i get an error message, with red-x, stating windows is unable to restart.

Additional info that may be relevant, is that a few months ago, i had a friend work on my computer, because windows wouldnt boot at all. When My laptop was returned to me, everything was fresh, but there was missing programs etc...He said, he had to format the hard drive to get it up and running again.

Anyway i appreciate any help as to what i should i do next, or answer any questions you may have-Thank-you!

Hi,

about 2 years ago my computer randomly shut down (I think because of a virus), and when I tried starting it back up, it would bootup fine, but I could never get past the XP Pro login screen. The passwords/accounts are fine. I only have one password-protected account, which is mine, and the password is still valid. I also have an additional account for my sister without a password.

Whenever I try to login to either account, it displays the "Loading account settings..." dialogue but doesn't do ANYTHING after that, it never logs in.

I tried booting my computer into safemode, but then it gets to a login screen for Administrator, and apparently there's a password that I guess I set a long time ago, and I have no clue what it is and can't log in. I tried logging in WITHOUT putting an administrator password in since I know you can sometimes do that with XP Home, but I had no luck.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there a way I can log in somehow? Is it a virus?

Also, if I were to somehow get into the computer by setting up an additional XP partition, would I still have access to all of my files? THe reason I ask is because I saved a LOT of IMPORTANT work-related files into the "My Documents" folders for my account...is there a way I can access any of that?

Thanks so much for the help, I'm perplexed here!!

Hey Guys, I hope this is posted in the right forum. If its not then I am truly sorry! So I am back at it, with a different problem and a different laptop. I was attempting to fix my buddys from schools laptop for him, because I thought I could. Once again its not as easy as I thought. What I think it is... Is the boot sector is bad. Because the laptop won't load windows, It continuously restarts, wont even go into Safe mode. Restarts and then comes up with Repair. I have tried to Boot from Puppy Linux and from various windows boot discs and it will not boot from disc. It will not load any of them... Or it could be that the Disc in the machine has gone bad. Have you tried booting Puppy from a USB flashdrive? Give it a shot: You probably already have the instructions for putting Puppy on a flashdrive. Please do the following:Get a look at the error message presented by the BSOD (blue screen of death) ....Start tapping the F8 key after you press the ON button, and continue tapping until you are presented with the "Advanced Boot Options" menu screen.
Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press the <ENTER> key.Your system will attempt to restart normally, but when it crashes, it will not re-start: Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message details (contained in the areas outlined in red, in the above example image), and post in your reply.Note: The first image above is from XP, but the Vista menu is similar.Edit: I might ask for this topic to be moved from the External Hardware forum ... to the Vista forum.Edit2: "Toshiba Laptop. Please help. My laptop suddenly shut off last night and when I turn it back on I get the "windows did not shut down normally" with the option to 3 safe modes, last good config, start normally. If I pick any of the safe mode options, I get the screen filled with drivers but it freezes there. If I pick normal or last config, i just get the black screen. I cant find my XP cd to re-load windows but I can borrow one soon. What is wrong and how can I fix it???

A:Black Screen & Unable to Safemode

Can you boot into safe mode?

If so...do it, then Starr/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot.

If the chkdsk /r runs, it will do so...then boot into XP automatically.

System manufacturer and model?

Hello helpful people of bleepingcomputer,Once again I have a problem! It started with popups that come up every few mins. The topics of the popups range anywhere from asking if I want to go to college to trying to sell me knives. When I tried to run Malwarebytes I got a message stating that the computer could not find the .exe. I re-downloaded and installed the program, but again the .exe was missing. It seems to have deleted the executable file. After that I tried to use a restore point to backtrack and see if that would do any good, but nothing changed.I figured I would try to restart in safe mode with networking and download Malwarebytes again, but when I tried to do that the computer rebooted and stated that something went wrong and asked if I wanted to start Windows normally or try to run it from the last known good configuration. Also, when downloading the dds and root kit report tools I had to pause and unpause the downloads in order for the files to complete. I do not know if this is directly related to the other problems, but felt it was worth noting. So that is where I stand. Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem... I've been trying to backup my computer to an external drive and I keep getting the error code: 0x8078002A. I've tried numerous times in the past few weeks with no success and the same error code each time. My laptop is a Dell XPS 17 (L702X, Early 2011) with an Intel® Core™ i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz processor with 8.00 GB of installed memory (RAM). The Windows edition I'm running is Windows 7 Professional. The size of the backup that I'm trying to run is 327.56 GB (and I know there is plenty of space on the external drive to accommodate the backup). The external drive I'm trying to back up the laptop to is a WD (Western Digital) My Book external hard drive that is a 4 TB hard drive. It currently has 1.88 TB free of 3.63 TB according to its properties. I recently performed an "Error-Checking" run with the external hard drive (by clicking on 'Properties' and then the tab that said 'Tools' and then 'Error Checking' and it went through that process and fixed whatever errors it might have found. I had read on some other forum that I should try doing this to see if that would make the backup work, but it still won't work and I'm still getting the same error code.

I read on another forum that you could possibly be getting the error code 0x8078002A if you had a virus or malware or some other type of problem.  I'm not sure what else to try or do...  I do run Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition regularly as ... Read more

My Asus laptop has been the biggest pain in the *** but I'll go ahead and just cut to the chase.

My laptop powers up but it doesnt boot the bios. Everything's running; batteries charging, cd drive ejects, led lights work, hard drive boots, etc. When it first started happening i couldnt get it to turn on (and i know this sounds retarded) without me actually hitting it. It wasnt just coincidence as i've tried on several occasions and it would only boot if i hit it. So i just took it as somethings lose either ground causing it to short etc. But now its not booting up at all and if it does its only for about 3 seconds then i either get; Blue screen of death which appears only for a few milliseconds, freezes, or just turns off. Leading me back out to a computer that wont boot up.

I've taken it apart put it back together tightening anything i thought was loose. still gives me the same problem.

Any thoughts?

A:Laptop unable to boot

My first reaction is that you may have a mechanically faulty hard drive. Its possible that for some reason it wasnt spinning freely and (for a while) when you hit it you somehow freed it up to spin properly. But, most likely this was still going to end up in a non-functioning hard drive... BUT, this doesn't explain your inability to get to bios... So my second reaction is that you have a faulty mother board with a bad connection point somewhere... You could perhaps try to remove your CMOS battery from the mobo if you can find it and access it without destroying your machine. Then reinstall the battery and reboot and see what happens... just my 2 cents...

Hi,

last night after I finished using my laptop, I closed its lid as I usually do and we both went to sleep.
But this morning when I opened it again, instead of starting up normally I got this error: Oxc00000e9 and I was unable to boot Windows. I didn't have any USB devices connected so I'm worried that it might be a problem with the hard drive.

I tried getting into Safe Mode, but after loading part of the files it stopped working and I was given an option to Startup Repair.

After that the laptop was stuck for some minutes in a Windows gray screen with cursor before the Repair window appeared. It run and asked me to retasrt to see if it had worked or not.

It took some while to restart, the Windows loading icon came up but then instead of booting the system I was sent again to a screen which looks like the Startup Repair one, with the cursor on it but nothing else. It has been stuck like this for half an hour and I don't know what to do next, maybe the hard drive has failed? The DVD drive seems to be making a sound from time to time, I don't know if this is relevant or not.

Anyway, I don't have a backup of my files, I do have a System Repair disk from my desktop, not sure if that would help or how to use it exactly.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Script: X:/Rita-tool/Start.vbs
Line: 93
Char: 14
Error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Code: 80070002

Then I got another window:
HP Recover
Create File Fail

Clicked OK

Got another Window:
HP Recovery Manager
Contact HP Customer Support
Recovery not supported under current configuration, please enable option for Intel Smart Response Technology and try again.

I am unable to upgrade my Acer X1300, which is currently running Windows Vista Home Premium x32, to any Windows 7 variant. When I attempt to do so, I receive the following information upon pressing the "Install Now" button at the main Windows 7 installation menu:

Quote:
A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

I am unable to proceed with the installation beyond this point. I've updated Vista with SP2 and all important updates, but to no avail. I have also tried updating the chipset drivers via Acer's website, however that did not seem to make a difference either. I have read many articles and reviews about the X1300 being able to install and run Windows 7 very smoothly, however this does not appear to be the case with my system.

Anyone have any ideas? How should I proceed?

Edit: On second thought, that would probably only help with a clean install.

Did you try putting in the cd that came with your motherboard containing drivers, when it said that?

Or here is a good way to proceed. Extract the contents of the .iso to a folder on your pc and run setup.exe from in there. Maybe work. I dunno.

Here is the scenario, a friend of mine lend out her laptop to someone who installed a driver to connect to the internet (sprint cd), so anyways once she got it back, she noticed that she could not access her cd rom. Friend rebooted and not only a black screen. She has an HP laptop, just bought it in Feb of 06, internal dvd/cdr, runs XP Home nothing with bells and whistles. So here is the deal, reboot after the short post goes straight to a blinking cursor and nothing happens. I tried F8 Advanced options, can't even get to it, I've tried rebooting to a XP Cd...skips right over the cdrom and goes and tries to boot to the LAN using her pxe 10/100 NIC .. (she uses wireless but that has nothing to do with it). It provides me with an option to boot fm 1. cd rom 2. floppy (which she doesn't have) 3. hd 4. network card
"WILL NOT BOOT TO THE CDROM!!" So I'm thinking okay maybe if I get an external usb cdrom maybe I can get to the recovery console and start from there but as of right now....can't get pass the POST... can you provide me some info here, thanks in advanced.

p.s. I'm thinking she got a virus that attacked her mbr and just killed everything...

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. (Vista) A few days ago, it refused to start up. I would just get a black or blue screen. Since then, I have done several system repairs to no avail, mostly receiving a report of unable to find hard disk. I eventually was able to manage a system recovery and since then, have been able to boot in sage mode and occasionally normally. When I am able to log in normally, I immediately get a message that software is installing but it never completes. The machine begins to make a clunk clunk clunk with some ticking as well and it appears to be frozen. I have no cursor or ability to do anything but eventually shut it down manually. What is the most likely cause?

A:Solved: Unable to boot Laptop

I would hazard a guess that the hard drive is/has failed, if they hard drive is making clunking type noises that it didn't used to make, I would suggest replacing it. If possible, remove it and connect it to a desktop or something as a secondary drive, at least you might be able to recover some data that way if there is anything you need/want on it.

Hello,

After putting my laptop in hibernation mode by mistake (because I commonly do that) instead of turning it off as I had desired, the laptop would not boot up back. Instead, after the screen "Resuming Windows" was over, a blue screen (did not have one of those "screens of death" ever since the days of XP, but this seems to be worse...) appeared stating "HARDWARE FAILURE", and asking me to contact tech support.

I hard booted my laptop and after the loading screen, nothing came back, so I am unable to boot up my laptop normally. After a second hard reset, attempted Startup Repair, without sucess. Attempted to go through safe mode, also without sucess.

Of note:
- OS: Vista Ultimate 32bit
- Shortly after acquiring the laptop seven months ago I had disabled automatic updates (both Windows' and Dell's) so I do not have most recent updates for the OS (and possibly the drivers).
- In the past, the laptop (or, at least, the screen) would rarely totally freeze shortly (always a few minutes after logging in).

Thanks in advance for any input.

A:Unable to boot up laptop after hibernation

Hello Campano,

Not sure but, I guess your problem lies in the hard drive or RAM failure. Imo, if your notebook is seven months old you should contact the Dell representative to repair the broken hardware. Perhaps they would send you the part to repair it by yourself. Hope this helps.

Cheers...
