Help, please with startup error...

Q: Help, please with startup error...

When I start the computer, I get this message
"ibmpmsvc.exe the exception privileged instruction (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x0012e78d click on ok to terminate the program click on cancel to debug the program".
How can this be fixed?

Preferred Solution: Help, please with startup error...

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Help, please with startup error...

Hello drm1101 and welcome to the forum,

The process ibmpmsvc.exe is a power management driver for IBM laptops. It provides support for the use of four keys on the thinkpad keyboard with blue key tops - Fn, F3, F4 and F12 - which have specific functions to control the standby and hibernate buttons. It isn't required if you don't plan to go into standy or hibernate modes.

The only solution I have seen is to go tothis site and try the latest version of the power management driver:

As the title suggests, my Acer Aspire has been running startup repair for over 20 hours following a BSOD yesterday. I'm not sure if it's worth the wait so maybe you all can shed some light. Yesterday I was stressfully trying to search for something (using Chrome) and the website I was on froze; admittedly I slammed the heels of my hands down on the laptop at that point. The site unfroze after less than 30 seconds, I continued using my laptop without incident, then let it hibernate for about an hour. Started up fine after that, and at that point I was beginning to rip a DVD (one that I owned; I just wanted the files on my computer) using a program that I've used successfully in the past, but the rip failed. So I began using VLC instead, and hadn't actually started ripping any files when my laptop froze. I had been trying to point to a file path for saving but hadn't saved anything. The laptop was completely unresponsive after several minutes, so I hit the power key to restart, which is when I got the BSOD. It flashed too quickly for me to read or remember anything other than the word KERNEL. I've been wracking my brain trying to remember if it said kernel error or kernel memory error or what.

After the BSOD I had the option to start normally or in startup repair; I hit "start windows normally" but it went to repair anyway. It was on the grey screen with the cursor but I thought it had frozen again, so I did another hard restart. No BSOD this time, but again the opti... Read more

Hi guys I was cleaning my laptop turned it on and it just wouldn't work so I turned it off and on again and it was giving me this error code saying my keyboard is not detected in start up. It then says there was a problem and shoots me to startup repair where it's just stuck not doing anything. My mouse and keyboard don't work, but I have a wireless mouse that I can use I can't access safe mode either because my keyboard doesn't work and I don't know if I can get a keyboard hooked up since my computer might not be able to recognize it. Sorry for the badly worded paragraph it's really late and I need to go to sleep. How can I solve this problem. Also startup time is really long ( usually 20 seconds) is now 5 min an doesn't even start up some times and I have no recovery disks or anything like that so im really confused what to do
Edit: A quick update, I started my computer in the morning and was not getting error 01010003, and my computer started perfectly fine however my keyboard still isn't working. I think it might be a driver problem, but I can't access Safe Mode... because my keyboard doesn't work. Is the only way of getting the key board to work getting a new keyboard and using that to diagnose the problem through safe mode or?

A:Error 0101003 Keyboard no detected, stuck on startup/startup repair

In this situation, you have to use another keyboard in order to test. I wish you will be luckier than me .... for me it turned out to be a motherboard failure My computer was working normally .... but no USB/PS2 ports were working.

My laptop hasn't been in use for about a few weeks and all of a sudden, I am getting a Windows Error Recovery on Startup. I am given two options: Launch Startup Repair (recommended) and Start Windows Normally. Nothing happens when I try to restart Windows normally -- I only see a black screen. Upon selecting System Recovery, a teal screen pops up with "System Recovery Options" telling me to select a keyboard layout. Then it tells me to select my OS, but it comes up blank, telling me to load drivers for my hard disks. I stopped right there.

I am a little hesitant about using the System Recovery in fear of losing important files. If this is a possibility, I may try to backup my files using an alternate OS, like Ubuntu. Or are my files already long gone? Is this just a restore for important Windows files or a complete restore of Windows back to factory settings?

I have not installed any new software or devices. Running Windows Vista x64.

so everything was fine when my laptop started to become very slow and i used to get the BSOD very often so i decided to recover the system to the initial state . i did that and everything was fine , then i updated the windows 7 service pack 1 and finished the installation and rebooted my computer , the start-up at least took half an hour at that time and the service pack 1 installation showed "not successful " i tried to again to update the service pack1 which showed 73.6mb - 892.6mb so i updated it again and again the same thing happened.

then i researched and found out that there is some problem with the windows service pack 1 and some daemon tools driver sptd.sys is also involved or something so i uninstalled daemon tools as well as windows 7 service pack 1 from control panel .

now the system is back to its normal speed once it starts up fully , and unless i switch it off there is no problem , but when i restart the system it takes at least half an hour to start up sometimes more than that , sometimes it never starts and i see the BSOD after the welcome screen with error 0x000000f4 and the physical memory dump fails with error 0xc0000010 .

i had also found something about minidump files which i didnt understand anything about , but i still tried to find the folder but i couldnt find the minidump folder in c:/windows/ so i figured maybe i didnt have a minidump folder.

Hi to all,

Around 5 days ago, some sort of error, cropped up while installation of Kaspersky Anti Virus on my laptop, and after that everytime, I turned the system on, I faced the blue screen error.

Then, i formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows XP. It was running fine for two days. Suddenly, it started giving error "Logonui.exe application error" at startup displaying something similar to "The instruction at '0x0037149c' referenced memory" something.. It had to buttons - Cancel (for debugging) and Ok.. I pressed cancel/ok/close button. It always cropped up. Until after a series of pressing buttons, my log on screen came. After logging in, all my icons and taskbar gone. So, i opened Windows Task Manager and run "explorer.exe". After everything came up, Some Data Execution Prevention error cropped up. Whenever i tried clicking "Close Message", it always came up again with a separate window for the "Send Error Report to Microsoft" dialog box.

Whenever I connected to internet, the link under my Internet started blinking very fast. I even left it without any internet application open, but it still went on. I saw the properties window of my connection. It went on and on. And in return, everything went slow. Internet surfing and downloading. And one major problem occurred that, whenever I leave my internet open for a short while, it shows the blue screen of error and restarts.

I thought of formatting every drive ... Read more

Here's my story:

My sister's PC had been corrupted in lots of unnecessary programs and apps.
I deleted those craps. Windows Action Center then prompts me to update my windows, and I did.
PC restarted and POOF!!!, I am seem to be forever stuck in the Startup Repair Loop.
So I tried System Restore, but it's giving me the error code stated above (error 0x80070003).
I also tried System Image Recovery, and it's not also of help. Also, checking Hardware Options didn't help.
Lastly, I tried the Command Prompt option and it gives me nothing.

So how can I possible fix this error? ((

This is a family member's laptop. It is a Dell Inspirion N4110 running Win 7 Home Premium x64
They gave it to me complaining that the shutdown button restarts the computer and will not actually shut it down.
So I checked its preferences, they were fine. I went into the registry and changed the value from 1 to 0. That didn't work. (I changed it back)

I noticed on start up there is an error (it still pops up) that says there was a problem starting c:\users\blah\AppData\Roaming\homsp.dll The specified module could not be found.

The I decided to run a virus scan. Their McAfee had expired so I uninstalled it along with some odd software from a company called SysTweak or something and installed AVG and Malware Bytes. Those full scans came back clean except AVG found something and removed it but it wasn't of any significance to this issue.

I decided to check Windows Update, it wouldn't run. So I tried to restart it in Services and it wasn't there. After some piddling I found a program that supposedly fixed the problem for you. It was called Fix WU. I got it Softpedia. After running it the Windows Update service was back. I was able to install some updates and thought all was well. Then there were more updates. I tried to install them and got an error 80246008.

So I then realized BITS wasn't listed in the Services, either. I found a download (? [SOLUTION] Windows Update and BITS services missing) that contained reg files for Windows 7, installed it, ran the bits file and then res... Read more

I'm in no way a expert on such things but I did notice something you found.

Their is no way of knowing all the things a program like that has done. If I had to repair this computer I would start with a repair install.

Give this a good read.

Repair Install

Then I would install MSE for a anti virus and use the built in Windows Firewall.

Little note: If you didn't use McAfee's online removal tool their could of been left overs of McAfee on the computer when you installed AVG and that would be just more problems.
Any anti virus program you remove I recommend using their own removal tool found online.

I have updated windows, which I didn't update currently because I keep it up to date, I have run Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool which found nothing, I have run Malwarebytes which found nothing I have of course run my current anti-virus, malware, registry cleaner software and it says all is good too. I was having a problem before where I had a similar error at startup. The name of the box was MOM.EXE, and it said it couldnt run the problem if i remember right.

Im both cases i can click the OK button and the error doesnt come up again until i restart my computer.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A:At Startup Error: Mom.exe - .net Framework Initialization Error

This error may be a result of the .NET Framework either not being installed or the installation is corrupt. Go Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and make sure the Show Updates box at the top is checked. Then search for an entry called:Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0If it is there remove it (don't worry if it is not there). Then go to this site and download a fresh copy of it. Install it, reboot and then see if your problem has been solved.

When the machine would normally be going to the Windows startup screen, instead it shows two lines of print separated by a blank line, white print on a black screen:

Boot error: 0-00

Select partition to boot, 0-3:_

the underline at the end of the second line is a flashing cursor. It remains with this showing until I enter any character, and hit 'RETURN', whereupon the normal boot process resumes. It doesn't matter if I enter one of the four requested digits or something else, any character will do. While this seems simple enough, it worries me - I don't like partition problems, especially since I'v seen Windows 7 repeatedly simultaneously convert normal partitions on up to three drives at once into completely unreadable garbage that no partitioning software can read. While there seems to be no consequence from this behavior, I've become very skittish since witnessing what Win 7 can so completely foul up. I've had this boot error before, and the only thing that removed it was completely repartitioning and reformatting the drive involved. Does any body recognise this? I've been working on and in computer systems since they were called 'numerical calculators', back in the fifties, and I've never seen this until two years ago. Both times I've seen this start, it's begun at startup from a cold boot, after a long series of drive changes, otherwise I know of no other common factor. I know I'm getting old and stodgy, but I really don't like this. The error stays with the driv... Read more

Eventually I decided to boot Ubuntu from a USB drive, open up Gparted, and delete any and all Linux partitions while expanding the size of the Windows partition back to normal.

Unfortunately, in the process, I must have made an error, because now upon startup I get the "bootmgr is missing" error. I don't have a recovery CD nor does my laptop have a CD drive, so that's out of the question, but I know for a fact my Hard Drive has a recovery partition on it. Recently, I got a wireless adapter card for my Compaq Presario (2005-6) desktop PC. Unfortunately, wireless cards have been known to freeze that model of computer if they use usb port 2.0. My comp started freezing after an hour and eventually much faster, leading to my having to shut it down by holding the power button repeatedly. Eventually it started running very poorly, so I did a destructive system restore and wiped the entire computer. I had to do this twice, because it started freezing again - the third time, it stopped freezing because I switched which port the wireless card was in, but the damage was already done.
Now windows will not start normally at all. It has no restore save points and will not allow me to try to restore either via safe mode or through hitting f10 at start up. If I try to use 'start windows normally/last good configuration', the PC simply freezes on a black screen. I have tried deleting programs in safe mode, defragging, disk cleanup, and chkdsk, none of which worked. I can't burn windows XP or boot.ini because the only other computer we have is incapable of burning CDs, and compaq did not send any system restore discs with the computer - nor did they send the XP set up cds. Is there any way for me to somehow repair XP without the discs? It seems like a huge waste of a computer to try and buy a new one when everyone else I've consulted said it sounds like a windows problem rather than an XP one.

Thanks for any advice.

When I try to start up the computer, everything works until after the XP logo loading screen. After that, there's a long long black screen that eventually turns into a blue error screen that says "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". I have no clue whats going on. All I did yesterday was install battlefield 2 and spill a bit of water on my keyboard. Could either of those things have caused this?

Any help is extremely appreciated, I just got FEAR and want to play it quite badly.

A few days ago there was a power cut (this means I can't use my laptop as it needs an external monitor). So I turned it off and left and when I came back it had started itself up and was running the startup error repair tool. It failed obviously so I went through all the tools and nada.
Starting it with normal settings gets it to the windows logo, it the does nothing for a while, crashes and restarts. The same goes for trying to load it in safe mode.
I followed this guide http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/fix-windows-startup/ none of it worked so it directed me here.
What do?

Long story:
Well the problem started when I got my internet back.
I left my computer alone without a problem for about a month, when I got my internet back there was this error. When I start up my computer there was an error box and it said Userinit.exe Application error or something, then something about 0xc0000005. So i thought pressing ok would just let it go away, then another error box, Rundll32.exe Error, Same code 0xc0000005. Then I clicked ok, and it popped up again and again. Then it stopped and my explorer.exe wasn't running. So I went to the task manager and ran explorer.exe and my desktop popped up. Then the rundll32.exe error occur again, I clicked ok then again then again and explorer.exe was terminated, or I just lost my desktop and start bar etc. All i needed to do is run explorer.exe so it pops up again. I can use my computer if I drag the error box to the corner of my screen so it don't distract me. Also I cant go into properties, like right clicking on computer to go to properties or going to my graphic card control panel, and changing my wallpaper etc.. (I doubt its the internet causing this error)

Short story:
Startup my computer Userinit.exe Error.
Then rundll32.exe error.
Explorer.exe won't start.
Can not go into desktop properties.

Ive run CCleaner as well as Ascensive PC Speedpro to no avail..the error still happens on startup.

Can someone please guide me through the steps i need to take to resolve this issue?

A:Startup MS Dos error

You should look at what startup programs are running. msconfig, startup tab, might be of help (start, run, msconfig.exe).
I'd also scan 03450843.exe with an antivirus or antispyware program. That's a rather suspicious file name. It's likely a 16-bit program hence the messages you're seeing. It's possibly even buggy (looks like it's crashing), so perhaps you're not getting any payload (+ 16-bit programs may not work entirely on pure 32-bit OSes like NT, 2000, or XP). Scan anyway to be sure.

I get a command window with errors everytime I start up my computer. I was able to grab screenshots of the error and I attached them. It's been like that for a long time but I never had any problems so I never investigated.

Lately my computer has been freezing while shutting down more frequently ( it's being doing that for a while but it was very intermittent) and refused to disconnect my USB devices twice saying they were used by another application when they weren't so I figured it would be time to get everything cleaned and working properly before it gets worse.

I scanned my computer with AVG, Malwarebytes and SpyBot and they found nothing.

A:Cmd error at startup

It isn't malware. I assume you have some sort of SoftThinks utility installed? It looks like it's trying to run something on startup but isn't being allowed to due to insufficient privileges.

I have a new Lenovo laptop with Windows7 and everytime I wake it up or start it up it has an error that reads: Can Not Find C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\VeriFace\VerifyHost.exe. If I click OK it goes away but it's getting annoying.

The laptop had some kind of Veriface program that recognizes your face or something to log you on, but I didn't want it so I removed it from the Control Panel. I also went in to msconfig and unchecked that program from the Start tab but it still does this. Is there something on the msconfig Tasks or Applications tab that I need to remove also? I don't see anything on there that says "VeriFace" or something like that and I don't want to start removing things just because I'm not sure what they do.

Any help appreciated.

A:How do I get rid of this startup error?

press winkey + r
type msconfig and hit enter in the box that appears
in the new window select use selective startup. the go to the startup tab
Find the offending app and untick it, okay out.
As a general rule just about everything there can be safely removed.
You can experiment easy enough.

Note: you will get a single message basically telling you msconfig was used the next time you startup, it will go away if you untick the box before closing it and not bother you again.

My computer recently froze up and I had to restart my computer by holding in on the power key. Upon rebooting I now get a pop up stating that windows explorer has encountered an error must close. Upon letting it close the screen refreshes and I will get the error again if I try to access my computer icon on the desktop or most any other action requiring explorer. I tried going into safe mode but get the same error there also. Tried a system restore to the previous day but that did not help. Also windows live messenger also seems to hang at trying to log in and I can only get out of it by going to task manager and ending it there. Internet explorer will not run at all. Mozilla firefox will. I am running an oem version of xp home.

Any help would be much appreciated

I used the system recovery cd today because my sound wasn't working. Well, my sound works now but at every time I turn the computer on I get a windows explorer error and can only see the "Start" and time on the bottom bar. It also keeps refreshing itself every couple of minutes after every error report.
it pretty much just says "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
can't use the windows button on the keyboard or anything, its just an hourglass when I put the pointer over the bottom bar.

any help would be appreciated, thanks

A:error at startup

Okay, first because of a sound problem, you basically reinstalled the entire Operating System ?

Given that you have done so, it's possible the install was bad. You could just reinstall again and see if it works right this time.

Normally, bad installs mean a hardware problem. Maybe a scratched disk, but doubtful. Bad Cd drive or bad Hard Drive. Or worse.

Did you do anything to the computer after the reinstallation. Install any programs ?

Did you go on the internet without updating windows, and setting up an Anti-Virus software ?

My new Thinkpad X1 has a problem: after booting into Windows 10 Pro, an error message appears on the home screen. The message is: "There was a problem starting C:\Program Files(x86)ThinkPad\Utilities\PWMTR64V.dll The specified module could not be found." Otherwise, everything else seems to work fine. I originally set up Windows 10 Pro with a Microsoft account, then updated all the Windows and Lenovo files. Then I realized I could do the setup without a Microsoft account which I didn't want anyway. So I then did a Windows system reset and did a clean setup this time with a personal account. Then I again updated the Windows and Lenovo files. Then the next time I restarted the computer, I got the error message. I did a file search for the missing PWMTR64V.dll, and I found it in another folder: c:\Program Data\Lenovo\ImController\Plugins\ThinkpowerPackage\x86\PWMTR64V.dll. Just to see if I could get rid of the error message, I copied the PWMTR64V.dll file, then created C:\Program Files(x86)ThinkPad\Utilities\folder and pasted the dll there. Then, at system startup, the error msg did not appear. The problem seems to be fixed, but it is no real fix --- and now I wonder if there might be other files that might have been displaced as well, and that might cause trouble in the future. So my question is --- why might this be happening? What Lenovo program is looking for this dll where it doesn't exist? Is there a Windo... Read more
