Suddenly giant browsing IE8

Q: Suddenly giant browsing IE8

My browser has been getting larger and larger.
Now it is almost unusable it is so large.

The text is half an inch tall.
The icons and graphics are huge!

Everything on my desktop is still normal.
(I keep my text, etc. rather small)

I am typing short lines in this message
because my browser area is WAY
larger than my screen.
It takes 3 scrolls to see the right edge.

Preferred Solution: Suddenly giant browsing IE8

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This suddenly happened last night, the video player on youtube is now almost twice as big, it looks awful on my small laptop screen and eats up a lot of cpu when playing. I can't change it back, and can't find anyone with a similar issue. I've tried deleting cookies, making sure i'm not zoomed in on the page, running firefox in safe mode, nothing.
I've contacted both firefox and youtube support, but haven't gotten any answers. Attatching pics of what it looked like before and what it's doing now
Not sure if it's just a weird coincidence or what, but it also happened right after avast updated? not sure how that would factor in.

Since two days ago all my browsers function very slow. A new tab can take 15 seconds to open, typing in addressbar has very long delay (I type an address and hit Enter, it takes up to 20 seconds for first letter to appear, then other letters appear one in every 0.5 to 1 second). Typing this post using Maxthon browser, if I make a typo and right click to open spell check context menu, it opens after about 10 seconds delay.

Behavior is the same with all browsers (Maxthon, IE10, Opera, Chrome, Firefox).

Flash does not work at all, or when then it's as if watching stop motion, streaming flash videos show one frame, then after a long delay jump over several frames to show next. Flash also gives this error message:

Some flash sites do not even show the flash content, as can be seen in this screenshot from Speedtest.net:

Notice the big empty grey area where normally the map and test buttons are shown.

Laptop is as in my specs except it's now running Windows 8 RTM. I'm on the road now, at the moment in The Netherlands and this started Wednesday as I arrived at the hotel where I am currently staying, so I first thought this has something to do with hotel's slow internet connection but my other laptop works fine using same connection.

Malwarebytes finds nothing. Browsers all latest versions, Adobe Flash Player updated. Any ideas welcome.

Hello helpful people,

Recently I have been experiencing issues when visiting the internet. Pages are taking longer to load than normal and at times, not loading at all at times I get the server timeout notice too.

I use firefox and IE, same problems with both browsers.

Is there a way I can scan and detect any threats which is causing this.

My antivirus is AVG 8.5 and I am running Vista

A:Browsing internet suddenly slower

Have you emptied your cache on both your browsers, also if you want to, you could download http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php then let it update the latest virus databases then run full scan ! Also type into start %temp% click open then delete everything thats in that folder, they are only temp or old unused files that are just blogging up your puter !Hope this Helps

I have a problem for more than 5 months on my computer. It usually happens after a lot of hours of downloading or internet usage. The problem is that when it happens i can't connect to any site on the internet but the applications that connect to the internet work fine. To solve it i usually restart my computer and everything works fine. I am trying to find a solution for much time but i can't fix it. So far i tried: scanning my computer for viruses, closing unknown processes, changing the router. Nothing worked, so, does anyone have any idea?

I posted this in the Security Forum and the BC advisor says I have no infection and should re-post here.
My daughter lives in an apartment where she shares the web connection of the business downstairs. The router password is simply the business name. Her browsing became extremely slow when she moved there.
My computer was running fine . One day I got on the web at her apartment. . All was fine as I was on the web at that location. After I returned home that day and restarted my computer, all operations are 5-10 times slower. After a restart, it takes 4 minutes for my home page to come up. Firefox is my default browser. Getting to a site's  home page takes several tries and takes much longer, then navigating within the site takes much longer or fails entirely. For example , I can get to my email home page and after 1-3 tries over 5 minutes I can view an email. I can get to Netflix home page but cannot connect to watch a movie, regardless of how many times I try, I just get the "something's wrong" message. IE works better (I can connect to a Netflix streaming movie) but is still slow.
It seems to me I picked up something from a possibly hacked web connection.
My system is a Toshiba Satelite C655D, 4 GB Ram, 64 bit, with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.

Yesterday i noticed than when browsing folders in my computer, it takes about a second for each one to load and also go back. Before then it was really quick. Its still quick when browsing using a program such as word. The day before yesterday i did alter some settings. I was having trouble where my pc wouldnt shut down properly, some guy suggested that i enable auto-end hanging processes which i did. I also disabled system restores for a min and then turned them back on again. Any idea why this might be happened? i dont see why it would be the things i changed. Thanks

Have you tried running chkdsk on your hardrives? Anytime you see lag like that its always good to start with a chkdsk to ensure there are no serious problems, and run a defrag. If neither of these things help or you have already tried them then it would be time to explore other possibilities.

It took about 1 minute to even load this window.... And here is what has happened:

Yesterday... i was just doing the normal things, i also downloaded the Opera 10.10 beta, loved it, defragged my computer. And shut down...

On restart(about 12 hrs frm last restart) I wanted to really download this new game that had come out, so i go on the internet, and i noticed some SUPER slow browsing, i thought it was because it was a beta... so i uninstalled Opera.

I then went into my Minefield broswer... It was also super slow - i thought it was because i had tweaked it inside of about:config, and uninstalled it, planning to reinstall it at a later time.

I then went into my Chrome Browser...
And it was also being SUPERRRRRRRRRRRRR laggy, and it being a Dev. Release version, i uninstalled it, planning on installing the stable version maybe later...

Then.. i go into Ie8.... Its also deathly slow... I go to mozilla.com ( takes like 2 and a half minutes to load it) and then try to download mozilla ff normal browser... it sais 1 hr remaining and it had a download speed of less than 30 kb/s... my connection is at 54mb/s...

I dont kno WHY so suddenly my internet got super slow(BTW its wireless) BUT my brother, has exact same laptop, though his isnt tweaked as much as mine, nor does he really do much crazy stuff to it, his internet is working fine.. and normally my computer is super speedy - jst like his...

This has happened with previous computers in the past. I'll save a photo from the internet for whatever reason...and in the past the icons would be sorted alphabetically, folders first.

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, my folders and items are sorted...AT RANDOM, and it's hard to find things because it's not in order and I have to right-click and rearrange. EVERY single time.

Why does this keep happening to me with each new computer I get at some point?

And more importantly, how can I fix it?

Please and thank you =D

Basically, my computer is linked to the internet via a wireless router and has all of a sudden become really slow at browsing. There are 2 other computers connected to the network in this house and one more that is linked to the router. All 3 of these computers are fine and have no problems at all.

I used to have no trouble browsing, but things have become so slow lately that I get constant disconnects from Windows Live Messenger, Facebook struggles to load, I can't even use YouTube anymore... Yet all of the other computers are fine. I did upgrade to Windows 7 5 months or so back and I replaced the network card in this PC a couple of months ago, but its only been since last week that I've been having these problems.
I have always had a decent 3-4 bars on the network signal icon, but this sometimes drops to 2 bars - which it never used to do. What makes it more suspicious is that the router is only in the room next door and I have a long range adaptor...
The last time I had a disconnect on the computer, I switched to my phone's Wi-Fi, and it couldn't find the router for a while. Yet all the other computers are working fine still.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I'm very capable with computers in general and I have kept this machine in very good working order, so I'm sure it's not a virus and I wouldn't have thought it to be a registry corruption or anything like that, but this really has me stumped...

I share a wireless router with 4 other people. All of a sudden my laptop internet speed took an extreme downturn. And it is only my laptop that has been affected, everyone elses is working at the same speed.
So usually if I ran a speedtest the download speed would sit at around 700kbp/s. Now it's barely at 80kbp/s.
The upload speed is sitting at 749kbp/s so it's pretty normal.
I've restarted my computer with no luck.
I've deleted all my cookies and temporary internet files with no luck.
I ran a virus scan (I use AVG Anti-Virus); it came up with corrupted executable file (Quicktime) so I removed that. This hasn't helped the problem.

I really don't want to have to pay heaps of money for a technician to come to my house and try and fix it. It's weird that it happened all of a sudden but I need to get it fixed.
Any ideas or suggestions? They would be MUCH appreciated as it is a very frustrating problem!

A:Suddenly EXTREMELY slow internet browsing and loading of web pages

Have you connected with a wired connection to the router to see if this is a wireless issue, or some other problem?

For wireless connection issues, I'd like to see this.

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

With a wired connection, boot in Safe Mode with Networking and run this PingTest and also this SpeedTest and post the link to the results here.

i thought it was a connection problem so i restrted my connection, browing was fine everything except downloading seemed okay.
i tried doing the same things with different browsers like firefox or internet explorer but the problem was same.
shockingly when i tried utorrent, it was perfectly normal, it gave the ususal downlaod speed of 6-70 kbytes/s

After you run the Speedtest, you need to copy the URL it gives you for the badge, so we can see what you got. Post your ISP, make & model of Gateway you have, Computer spec's, specifically if you are using wireless or ethernet for connecting to the gateway.

Make sure you are using the proper driver for the network adapters, not the ones that come from Microsoft/Windows update.

Recently my computer has started displaying giant pixels anytime I want to start up a computer game like The Sims or Trickster. For a while I thought it was just 3-d games that were not working but then I tried playing a 2-d pixel game, and I had the same problom, here is a screen cap of what I am talking about.

The computer that I am running is a eMachines T3256.
It has a nvidia GeForce 4 MX graphics card.
Is there anyways that I could fix this with buying a nother card, or downloading something, or will I have to take my computer in to someone to fix it?

A:Giant pixels, I need help

Re The Sims (original?) - your card should be able to play that

Re Trickster - your card doesn't support DX8 for 1.1 pixel shaders so probably cannot play that

Re the pixel problem - uninstall your present nVidia dtrivers in Add/Remove programs, reboot, and install the latest drivers.

edit: if the l;atest drivers don't fix it, uninstall them and try one of the 53.xx series - they apparently could, with hardware assisted software emulation, support vertex shader model 1.1.

A:giant images

Hi carol, you would need to reduce the image size in a graphics program, like Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro. Adobe Photoshop is rather expensive, but Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro are arouns $100. There are free image editors out there, I just don't know the names of them, try going to http://www.download.com and look under the graphics section and there should be some editors there you could either download for free or atleast get a free trial to see if you like them. Hope I have helped.

Hi there

I'm a sucker for these strategy sim games, so I bought Hotel Giant, (Sold Out Range). I have installed it successfully but it won't run.

It looks like it's about to start, and then just jumps back to the desktop and nothing else happens. It does not crash and I don't get any error messages.

I have written to the support team but they never bothered to answer, so I'm stumped.

You guys are always so cool at helping me out, so was hoping you could help me get the game to run instead of it just jumping back to the desktop.

A:Solved: Hotel Giant (Won't Run)

I have had a virus installed on my computer called rebate giant. It has 2 files on my desktop (one called rebate informer and one called rebate giant). I know how to remove files through the registry editor and was wondering if anyone had the file paths for me to manually remove it??

A:Rebate informer/giant

I don't think rebate informer/rebate giant qualifies as a virus. It looks as though it installs an Inbox.com toolbar and some desktop shortcuts. Uninstall the applications, and the toolbar, and delete the shortcuts if they are left behind.

There are no files in the registry, but there are references to files. Be mindful of travels in the registry.

I was super excited to see the 4th Gen X1 Yoga released, but so dissapointed when I looked at the pictures. That giant bottom bezel. What is going on here? Who in their right mind released that in the year 2019?All the other manufacturers seem to be slowly cottoning on what the market wants (hint: not 16:9), yet here we seem to be stuck with completely wasted real estate on the laptops. It just makes no sense, the market is all about trying to get bigger screens in a smaller device. The easiest way to do that is to put a 14" 16:10/3:2 screen in a 12.5" body. Does Lenovo have any official word on this? They have so many unnecessary overlapping models, yet not a single offering that has what we all want. The XPS13 2-in-1 with the 16:10 screen is going to decimate sales.I've stayed true to my 8 year old X220 which is still going strong, yet unless something gets announced by Lenovo by end of July, it's bye bye lenovo from me.

I somehow turned off the giant close button, the one you see in windows explorer, the internet window, and in winmail. The only problem is I liked the giant close button. I think what I did is change the theme to classic, and then back to vista, and it gave me this rounded box as a close button. I was just wondering if there was any way to put it back the way it was. Here is a picture

A:Giant Close button

Hello WeirdFrog, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I'm not sure of what you mean. That is the normal close button in Vista for non classic themes.

You might see if adjusting the size of the Caption Buttons item in the Advanced Appearance settings (step 6) to a large size may help. It will increase the size of the close button.

Hope this helps,

I just got a new Gateway All-In-One Touchscreen computer. Every application I open, however, has these huge close minimize and maximize buttons. I was fine with them before but now they get in the way of Firefox 4's UI. Is there a way to make them normal. Picture of the Buttons here. Thanks.

A:Giant Close Button

Please load the picture onto this site using the attachment button. Though this may be a coincidence, my AV (Norton) flared up moments after entering the site. Thank you.

I just installed WIN XP on a virgin harddrive. I don't like icons on my desktop so I like to use quick launch for recycle bin. my ISP and Internet Explorer. When I checked quick launch my taskbar grew to double its size. No matter how I moved or squashed it, it was either gone or double, but never the normal size. As soon as I uncheck quick launch I can compress the taskbar back to normal. Ideas and fixes welcomed.

A:the case of the giant taskbar

Have you got large icons selected for the quick launch taskbar?

To check, unlock the taskbar, then right-click on the quick-launch bar, and from the popup menu choose view, then large or small icons. Small icons will return the taskbar to normal size if this is what the problem is.

Sometimes I seem to get a HUGE context menu that goes completely from the top of the screen to the bottom. It seems to have a lot of options that aren't normally there on a simple right click. I never know what I did to get this menu and it seems to pop off about as fast.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv: Gecko/20101203 BRI/1 Firefox/3.6.13 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0E)

Windows XP at home and XPPro at work.

It has happened on both computers.

Just curious as to what this is and what I did to make it appear and disappear.

A:Giant Context Menu

I know that sometimes default settings get changed by accident. If you want you can try and change the settings for the browser. If you hold down the CTRL key and then use your scroll wheel you can change the size of the text on the page. I can look for a more permanent solution for you if this doesn't work.

Is it just me, or do you think IE is consumed with advertisements? Is there a good option to eliminate all the popups, popunders, and continual video/audio ads?

By the way, I just bought a new laptop with Win8 so I'm struggling with my mind as I transition from Seven to Eight. . .

A:Internet Explorer - A Giant AD?

Use the Desktop version of Internet Explorer and add the two EasyList and two Fanboy Tracking Protection Lists from the following link. After added, the lists update themselves automatically.

Internet Explorer Gallery

You can also change what pop-ups are allowed by going to Internet Options > Privacy > Pop-up Blocker Settings. Personally, I block all pop-ups and then whitelist any sites that I want to allow pop-ups from (or CTRL click links to open in a new window and bypass the pop-up blocker manually).

win 3.1 aand xp could not handle it. vista could shut the program down.
win7 64. is worse than 3.1!
it ends up snarling the whole computer and has to be powered down with the power button.
have 2 computers - both toshiba laptops both win7 64. one connects to the internet, the other never has.
both have the same problem.
sometimes they get to the 'logging off' or 'shutting down' screen - but it sits there for hours just showing the words and doing nothing - going nowhere.
task manager is no use here either
other than buying an apple - is there a solution?

Yes there is. But first we need you system specs, and OS version to start.

I use IE6 and Win98. When I send pictures as attachments with Outlook Express 6, the attachments come through in normal size, BUT the pictures are also shown in the body of the email in GIANT size (only a small portion of the picture is shown). Is there a way that I can eliminate the picture in the body of the email and just send the attachment? It takes a long time to send the message and I assume that sending the picture in two different sizes is part of the cause. I have no problem with the attachments but would like to get rid of also sending the Large picture. Can anybody help? A change in settings, maybe?

I recently purchased Hotel Giant 2 and attempted to play the game today. There were two error messages: "sys3d select display mode error" and "sys3de init driver error". I updated my video driver using the Lenovo website; this made no difference.

I also noticed today that when I attempted to open the ATI CATALYST(R) Control Center, there was an error message. The message was: "Could not load file or assembly 'CLI.Implementation' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.".

Are these two issues related? Another (possibly) related problem I'm having is that my multiple monitor capability has disappeared. My [right click>properties>setting>advanced>monitor] leads to this screen:

Previously, I was able to toggle between different displays, etc.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

As you might've read from the title, English isn't my primary language but I'll try to describe it as best I can. I tried looking in the forum archives but had no luck.

I have a large collection of awesome images (photo's, concept art, ...), and while the image in it's entirety is amazing, sometimes I'd love to select a smaller portion of the image and put that as my wallpaper, and I don't think that's possible with Win7. I hope I described it well because I couldn't find the right words to condense it in the thread title. In other words, I'd love to have the ability to select a small portion of a much bigger image (10kpx file) so that this will fill an entire screen. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks in advance!

A:How to select wallpaper with giant images

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
If you upload the image we/ someone can crop and resize the image as needed,
All we need to two basic items,
1 The image
2 The resolution of your monitor = 1600px width x 900px height "as an example"

Or you can do this all yourself using a multitude of freeware like GIMP/ Paint.net/Chasy's Draw/...
