Mulitiple Password Requests

Q: Mulitiple Password Requests

I thought we had cleaned up all the keylogger spyware from the ex-boyfriend but it's all started again. Even my stored password accounts are asking for a password 2 or 3 times. Very unusual. I didn't open email with attachments either. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am being frustrated with constant requests for a password. I have just started using this system and during updates the screen would go blank and I had to use CTRL+ALT+DEL to return to the desktop.

On return to the desktop the user name is displayed with the remark LOCKED and the need to enter the password.

When loading music CDs again and again the system displayed the request for a password. This happened at least once during the download sequence and at times twice for a CD with a large number of tracks.

What do I need to do to stop all this nonsense?

A:Constant password requests

Hi Scunnered

Im Not sure if im reading this wrong but what it sounds like to me is you have your screen saver set to password on resume
if this is the case then all you simply need to do is right click your desktop, personalisation, screen-saver
ether change the length of idle time to a longer one or uncheck on resume, display login screen

sorry if i am misunderstanding your problem

Hi
I run two desktops both on Win 7 Pro, both using Office Outlook 2007 and both via the same Router.
All is fine except one of them, always the same one, will have a burst of constant requests for the Network Password. Goes quiet for an hour or so and then kicks off again.
The advice I got from the Microsoft Community was to leave the various boxes blank, that didn't work
Any ideas please??

Hi,
Lately my Toshiba XP laptop will display a request for network password. Sometimes twice a day. The password is already entered in the box, all I have to do is press the Enter key. How can I stop this from happening, as It stops Outlook send/receiving.
Thanks

This might help you, unless I'm reading the question incorrectly. Is the issue with Outlook, or the network as a whole (when browsing, etc.)?

I have a Win 7 laptop and xp desktop on my network. When I try to access the xp desktop from the win 7 laptop, I sometimes get a dialog box requesting username/password. Other times I get a message box that I do not have permission to access the desktop. Other times still, everything works fine.

The xp can access the laptop no problem. The laptop can always see the desktop in the network, the problem is accessing it to share files or use a printer attached to the desktop.

I have no passwords on either computer. I have disabled passwords in the advanced network settings for home & work. Registry has LmCompatibilityLevel set to 3 on the laptop.

This is a common problem with win 7 networking with xp (but it usually is a consistent problem). I have not found a solution that has worked for me, despite trying many suggestions offered in this forum. Since the problem seems to occur randomly, it is very difficult to troubleshoot.

I would appreciate any ideas to rectify this.

If you don't want problems with sharing between these two OP systems follow the guide in the link below. If you set up a Homegroup on the Windows 7 machine you will first want to leave the Homegroup before making these adjustments.

In general setting up a standard workgroup then setting the permissions and running the XP network set up wizard and turning off simple file sharing on the XP machine should work for this but if problems arise then setting up as per the link below will work.

I reported this problem on here already and last time solved it by re-installing Windows from a back-up.

The problem has returned. But this time I have discovered something interesting. I believe it should be possible to troubleshoot the problem.

I have found that the problem comes about after using the online feedback form that comes with Windows 10. The feedback form requires that the user log in before posting. However it does not appear to give the user the option to log out again. For some unknown reason, whenever I have used the feedback app then shut down the computer and rebooted, Windows boots to the calendar screen. When I click on that screen it changes to the dark blue password login screen and asks me for my password. I have never had a password!

I was so thrown by this last time it happened that I did not consider that it was asking me for my online Microsoft password. But this is exactly what it wants. This time I typed in my online Microsoft password and hey presto it continued to boot to Windows. The problem is I am now stuck in an infinite loop of having to click on a calendar screen and enter the password every time I boot up.

It seems that Windows 10 is somehow confusing my online password with an offline password and is expecting the online password to be entered offline in order to log in.

Can anyone suggest a way to log out of Microsoft feedback app permanently?

I tried going online and logging in and out of the Microsoft webpage, but this did not... Read more

This is a post per the nstructions of orange blossom. This system is running Win XP Pro, sp3 with a 1 TB external backup (Western Digital) which constantly updates the back up files. Redirects have become common and recently some graphics interference as in web pages slowly scroll down filling bottom to top visibly. An update check on the graphics driver and software has not produce improvement. The redirects occur mainly on IE however, have been observed on FF as well. Also recently, before auto update of email on Outlook, a password request box opens and the email will n ot update without response. I suspect usage of the system by maintenance personnel as the system has on occassion been found in condition other than how it wsa left the evening before. Within the last 30 days email address was hijacked appaently at the server (yahoo/att)and spam advertising sent to all the cntents of my contact list. The network pass was changed as a protective measure adn the email issue has not resurfaced. Prior to contacting BP, a full system scan was run though McAfee and through MBAM and Sa. Other than expected minor tracking cookies, nothing out of the ordinary was found. The link to the posting on "am I infected" is as follows:

I originally had XP home on my master IDE drive in my system. I recently tried to migrate everything over to my new 250GB SATAII drive. The installation was successful and the new version works fine. I tried to get fancy and install XP PRO x64 on a different partition on the SATAII drive. This installation didnt quite work out(I get a bsod whenever XP x64 tries to load but thats another story)
Now heres what im trying to do- Remove the original IDE drive with the original XP home installation. But when I remove the disk I get either: "error loading OS" or "cannot find NTLDR". Im assuming the BIOS still is looking for the IDE drive for the boot info. I modified the Boot.ini, taking out the original XP home install. I even moved the boot.ini to the new SATAII disk. And yes, I made the SATAII drive the first one in the setup.
But now I cannot take out the original drive..........Any ideas??

I'm trying to fix my girlfriends mothers Inspiron 531, and I haven't worked on a computer in years so I'm alittle rusty lol. At the startup it was getting an error saying diskette drive 0 seek error and then it gets an error saying driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. I've been reading many threads on different forums about both but never both at the same time and not being able to boot the computer at all. A friend of mine that works with computers all the time said it wasnt the OS and to disable the hard drive and boot the OS from the cdrom, but that wont work either I'm still getting the blue screen saying driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. havent seen the other error again since it just keeps bringing up the blue screen. From what I've read the blue screen is a driver error but I can't do anything about those if the computer will not boot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the hard drive is the issue here. Find out the make of hard drive and go to the manufactures website. Download the bootable diagnostic tool and burn to disk. Boot the computer off that disk and run the tests.

I was trying to migrate some space over from my boot drive to another partition on my laptop and had my boot system crash. I am currently backing up what I can from it which will looks like it will be everything but the sytem portion and programs installed.

Since I will be starting from scratch when I am done here (my HD has a small recovery partition that will allow me to rebuild the C drive to factory settings) I would like to create a structure to make this a safer setup.

My HD is 250 GB. I would like to create 4 partitions.

XP for a backup system and more stability
Program folder for all the progams to be shared by both systems.
Storage folder for all documents and photos.

I am a photographer and have been building a web site so I have the full adobe suite and other big progams to store. I would appreciate any advice on how to configure this setup. How big should I make each partition?

A:Mulitiple partitions and multiple systems

Is your Dell laptop the one on which you are trying to create the dual-boot?

This would be much easier if you could get your hands on a regular Vista install disc, not any sort of recovery software. Here is the ideal process:

1) Install XP from CD. Here you would delete your currently wrecked Vista install. Depending on the software you are installing, you would want 10-30 GB of space for this partition.
2) Install Vista from DVD. You would create a second partition for Vista that doesn't fill up the hard drive, probably 15GB bigger than your XP's partition if you are installing the same applications. Installing the OS in this order will set your dual-boot up automatically.
3) From either XP or Vista, format the rest of the hard drive for your data storage. Both OS will be able to see and use this partition. At this time you would be able to delete the recovery partition if you like and then make a bigger data partition.

You can't share applications between multiple OS. Some people will say you can, but for more mission-critical work like yours, there is too great a risk of problems. Install your programs for each OS on their own partition. Make sure you look into your license agreements for your Adobe suite and see that you are allowed to do that.

Hi everyone, having some really frustrating problems I've been trying to fix myself, but nothing's helped yet. Hopefully you guys can help by analyzing my BSOD dumps.

My computer just likes to crash. I haven't run into any way to repeat any of these, and there's no common factors. This has been happening for months, and I've been able to stand it until now. I'm just sick of never having a working computer. Hundreds of blue screens, at least 6 different error codes over the last 6 months. I've attached the latest few.

The last problem I had with this computer was a rash of BSODs every few minutes, rendering my computer completely inoperable. It was bad caps on an old motherboard, which forced me to upgrade my mobo, CPU and RAM; that was done Sep 23 last year. I've still been getting a few lately, so I tried switching to an older hard drive I have on hand, which helped some, but didn't solve the problem completely. Here's the specs as of now.
Win 7 64 bit
Brand new case with two big fans to hopefully rule out overheating
Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H
AMD 955
Sector 5 DDR3 8GB
Rebranded MSI Nvidia 9500 GT
Secondhand PSU, 480W or 550W, don't remember which (suspected cause)
Drives:
Western Digital 40gig IDE (current boot drive )
Secondhand Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA (problem child)
Generic IDE DVD R/RW

Hello
New member and have to say there is an amazing amount of information share here. Great job! As I have read through many different threads of email regarding this topic I seemed to be a little challenged in understanding how I can apply this process to my sample spreadsheet.

In the spreadsheet I have a receipt date as well as a due date. Usually about 5 days out from the receipt date. I would like the flexibility of adding additional trigger dates should I need them. I have several employees that would add to this spreadsheet. Due dates can not be missed. If there is a way to send a reminder say a day or two before the due date as well as the actually due date that would be great. I have excel 2003 and outlook 2007. I know excel pretty well, trying to understand and learn more of the VB coding as I see how powerful it can be.

Where I were we have several excel documents however I found that they do not use them to there fullest potential.

If anyone has any suggestions for reading material for VB coding for a new person that would be great.

Appreciate any help anyone can give.

Thx
T-man

Hello,
I tried reinstalling my windows xp opereating system after deleting or erasing it by mistake when I was trying to burn a program/ image to sd card and chose the hard drive instead. i'm now getting the message:Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem after uploading xp software from cd. When I try to do the bootcfg /rebuild in windows xp repair mode from cd, it does not work... Any ideas? I'm desperate as this is my husbands work computer and was told that our warranty expired the 31st of Jan!! Any help you can offer for my stupid mistake would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying in vain for a week to fix..

A:Windows OS will not upload after mulitiple tries.. Hard Drive?

as this is your husband's work computer, do they have an IT department?
have a look at the following article. as you can't get bootcfg /rebuild to work, have you tried going back to the cd and typing chkdsk /r? Error message: "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem"

If you could get back and say what happened after you tried the bootcfg /rebuild - any messages? - and what happens after you try the chkdsk /r.

My bosses want me to create some vb code that moves 4 excel worksheets within the same excel workbook to 4 separate Notepad Documents in a different folder called output. The name of each sheet should appear as a header and a footer as well as the name of the document. It is located in cell J4.The data comes from cells starting at (C7 - infinite, D7 - Infinite, G7- infinite) stopping if there is no value in C. Also there is a yes or no question for each line starting in Cell J7-infinite, if true it should say "Not Null" if not it should say "Null". There are specific formatting issues as well. (see below) Dots are spaces and data must appear exactly as below with Column Name, Data Type, (Size), and Not Null as headings.

Please read this carefully before posting.
The idea:
This thread is meant to collect user's request of new features to add to Windows 7, or to bring back features that were taken out since XP / Vista, and are sorely missed.
The idea is to create a list that MS might want to take a look at.
For this to have a chance, we need to keep the thread clean, and free of unnecessary comments and discussions.
So we need a set of rules.
The rules:

   Information

1. No rants, no debates or discussions, no personal comments, no reactions to other posters, no MS bashing, period!

2. Maximum of 10 lines. So make sure your post is clear and to the point.
One or two words more won't matter, but don't push your luck.

3. Posting of screenshots is allowed to clarify your point.

4. No utopian requests, keep it reasonable.

5. Double posts and posts with features already requested by others will be deleted.

6. Adding a reason why you want it is allowed, but remember the 10 line rule.

7. If a user posts a problem that can be fixed, no help allowed other than saying poster should open a thread about his problem.

   Warning

Not complying with these simple rules, will get your post removed.

   Information

1. Please examine the list to see if your request is already there.

2. Please think about what you're requesting is a good thing for less knowledgeable users.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

You should have been patient and let the security team in the Hijackthis forum help you remove your infection, improper removal has caused your issue.

Use System Restore to a previous date to see if you can at least access windows in normal mode, then Look over the First Steps at Removing Malware and post the logs requested in the thread you started over in the Hijackthis forum.

I suspect some kind of phishing bug but I am not sure what might cause this issue.
In the 17 years since I started using a computer I have gotten only a few requests to log into the server when I opened my email client. It has been more than a decade since I saw one.
In mid October this happened randomly and I ignored it. Instead I opened my properties folder and checked each tab and closed it. Then I was able to get my email.
After that I think the next day maybe a couple of days later it came back only this time it wouldn't let me get my email when I checked the properties. I ran an MSE scan and it seemed to fix the problem.
Then a week later the same thing happened. This time checking properties and doing an MSE scan had no effect. I was able to send a test email but I did not receive it. I ran an ESET online scan. This seemed to "fix" whatever was causing the log in request. Since about 28 Oct until today there was nothing then this morning it has come up again with a twist; When I check the properties folder my user name and password lines were blank!
I am running an MSE scan and ESET is on deck to run right after. I feel like I am getting a bug from somewhere that is raising a false need to log in so that my password can be gotten. IDK ?????

I set up family safety for my 12 year old daughter, and ticked all the apps she can use freely. Every time she logs on the computer it pops up little messages telling her to request permission to use all the apps that I didn't give her access to. It's very annoying, so how do I stop it, other than the obvious but unhelpful step of letting her access everything?

A:Permission requests

Hello Andy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The apps that are checked are the ones that are blocked instead. Only the unchecked ones are allowed.
Family Safety App Restrictions - Set and Manage in Windows 8
When you get a request to allow an app and either allow or block it as per the tutorial below, you and the user should not see the messages for that app anymore.

It's time for me to replace my old HP 200LX, and I can't seem to find a PDA that is suitable. Here are my search criteria:

I am 50 & my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
I need a decent sized display (Palm Pilot types are
too tiny).

Besides the usual PDA (calendar, contacts, etc.), I want
to be able to run some Excel spreadsheets. My spread-
sheets can be robust, so I prefer a landscape display,
not the portrait shape of Palm Pilot type PDAs). Bonus
points for syncing up with my Quicken on my PC.

Connecting & syncing with my Windows PC is a good
idea. This device should augment my PC, not replace it.
(I do use MS Outlook).

My handwriting is horrible -- I need a keyboard, but
the keyboard can be small -- I don't mind hunting &
pecking on the PDA. I also don't mind navigating with
arrow keys.

Ideally, I'd like something about the size of a paperback book. I don't want a full sized laptop -- laptops are a bit big & too expensive. Finally, it would be nice if the device had modern conveniences, like ability to play MP3 files, surf the net, play some basic games, etc. I also wouldn't exclude from consideration any PDA / cell phone combination (although I don't have/use a cell phone yet).

Thanks in advance.run some Excel spreadsheets

I certainly appreciate your position. Indeed you are correct that I originally posted a request for assistance on another forum. After getting a reply from another user on that forum and nothing from the moderators for 2 days I decided to post on your site/forum...thinking that the user reply had suggested to the moderators on the other site that I was already receiving assistance.I have since received a request for my HJT log and info files from the other site so I will rely on them for assistance, My apologies for any confusion this may have caused. It was not my intent. More it was my misunderstanding of how these forums work.Thank you again and again, my apologies for duplicate postings. It was not my intent to over-tax either forum. You can safely run Adobe flash player. That warning is just to let you know that this add-on was already there and asks you to confirm that you want to run it.
Its up to you if you want to decide for every site apart with flash-content if you want to run it or if you want to enable it for all sites. Its no security risk to allow it for all sites.

I want to be able to view the connections (net watcher) to any given computer on the network from one 98 machine. Is there a place that we can leave feedback or requests for the ATA product?

There are a few things i would like to see changed.

1.  Alerting
We get alerts during backup windows that the ATA cant keep up but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with CPU or RAM.  In addition, we have no users in the system at that time so i find it very hard to believe
that this is true.  I would like to set time windows where we can exclude these alerts or maybe thresholds where if it is seeing that for 5 minutes, 10 minutes etc.
2.  Email Audience
I would like to be able to say these types of emails go to this distribution list and those go to another so that we keep the number of alerts the team gets down a bit.
3.  Suspicious Activity
When we get an alert warning of suspicious activity and click the link to take a look, the first thing you have to do is answer whether it is normal or not, but we cant click the link to see the suspicious activity unless
we open the excel file in the email.  This should be adjusted.

Troubleshoot Delegate Access
This feature requires Microsoft Exchange.
Viewing another person's folders
I can't see an appointment in another person's Calendar when I'm the delegate.

When you view days in the Calendar folder, you can't see the details of an appointment, but the free/busy time shows that the time is busy. This is because, even though you have delegate access permission to the other person's Calendar folder, if the other person created an appointment and marked it private, you cannot view the appointment unless they have given you permission to do so. Have the person who granted you permission clear the Private check box on the Appointment tab in the appointment, or have the person modify your permissions so that the Delegate can see my private items check box is selected.

I receive meeting requests and responses that my delegate should get.

The person you set up as your delegate might have been deleted from the Microsoft Exchange Global Address List, or there might have been an internal rule-handling failure on the server. To reset your delegate's permissions, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Delegates tab.

The Send meeting requests and responses only to my delegates, not to me check box might not be selected. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Delegates tab.

A:Getting continous ARP requests from a single PC

More than likely you had old network printers , or a printer, that had been configured at IPs that were no longer valid. Deleting the old printers and/or copies of printers will fix it.
When I discovered a computer on our network doing this I came across this forum, and therefore your post, which gave me the idea to check the guys printer list. Two old copies of the downstairs printer were still there, both with pending prints showing.
Checking the ports on each showed the two IP address the machine had been sending out packets for.

I know this is an old post, but.... someone else might come along later with the same problem.
