How to force Internet Explorer 11 reinstallation after failure (detection issue)?

Q: How to force Internet Explorer 11 reinstallation after failure (detection issue)?

Hi,
I got a problem with the Internet Explorer 11 installation I received through Windows Update. It is on a
Windows 7 x64 SP1 computer.
The installation failed, and Internet Explorer 11 doesn't appear under the Show Installed Updates section of Programs and Features.
Because of that, Windows Update tries to re-run the update, but keeps failing everytime.
My first idea was to download the IE 11 installer for Windows 7 x64 from Download Center and launch it; it fails with the error message "A more recent version of Internet Explorer is already installed".
When launching IE, effectively, the version is 11.0, but if I try to install an update for IE, like an IE 11 language pack or just a security update, it fails saying it doesn't apply to this system.
So basically, the IE installer detection logic says IE 11 is installed, while Windows Update says it is not, as for other updates related to IE 11. I have a tendency to believe Windows Update since it doesn't appear in Show Installed Updates.
I tried removing the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer registry key and its equivalent under SYSWOW64, no result. I also deleted the iexplore.exe file under Program Files\Internet Explorer and Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer, no result. Removing
those files is not easy since you have to take ownership on each of them because of the default permissions that are very tight.
Does someone knows the detection logic of the IE 11 installer and tell me what I must do to force it to run and reinstall everything? Or someone who got the same issue and was able to recover from it?
I repeat, no need to tell me that I must remove it from Installed Updates under Programs and Features first, it is not there and this is probably why Windows Update tries to reinstall it every time.
Tnx for help
Patrick

Preferred Solution: How to force Internet Explorer 11 reinstallation after failure (detection issue)?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

it sounds like IE11 is partially installed.
you may have some success by performing this uninstall method (expect a couple of warnings/errors during the process)
Open an elevated CMD console (Run as administrator)
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"Don

I'm running XP home on my laptop, and have an Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME onboard video card. The drivers for the card are up to date, and I've had no issues other than the following.
I regularly use my card's s-video output to connect to TVs for watching movies and such, and with almost every television I've used, I've had no issues. The problem is that the card can't detect my new TV. I'm using the same cable, connected in the same way, and haven't changed anything in terms of the software. I know that the s-video port works on the television because I've used it with other devices, and as I said, I know that the video card works.
The only reason I can think of is that the TV somehow isn't letting the video card know that it's connected. The software for my video card is saying that the only display connected is the laptop screen. Like I said, the video card, cable, and television all work perfectly. I'm now wondering if there is a way to either force detection of the television, or force the card to send the signal, even though it can't find the TV. I can't find a setting within the software to do so, but I'm wondering if anybody else has an idea how I might do this.

Hello everyone!

I am looking for information on a issue I have when I open Delta Force Task Force Dagger.

The game will actually open two instances of itself, I will be able to play in the one that pops up but when I click on the Exit button there is still a instance on the start bar. I have to maximize that then it goes back into the game which at that point I have to click the exit button again and then the program is closed.

I checked on Novalogic's web site support and even emailed them but no resolve either way.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It just became harder to distinguish bot behavior from human behavior.
Ask just about anyone the question ?What distinguishes an automated (bot) session from a human-driven session?? and you'll almost always get the same first answer: ?Speed.? And no wonder - it's our first intuition. Computers are just faster.

If you focus the question on credential brute-forcing, then it's even more intuitive. After all, the whole purpose of a brute-force attack is to cover as many options as possible, in the shortest possible time. Working quickly is just elementary, right?

Well, it turns out that this is not always the case. Most defenders, if not all, are already looking at speed and have created volumetric detections that are nothing more than time-based signatures. And that works, most of the time. But the attackers are getting smarter every day, and changing their attack methods. Suddenly, checking speed is no longer enough.

On the first week of October, we detected a credentials brute-force attack on one of our customers that commenced around 03:30am UTC. The attack, which lasted a few minutes shy of 34 hours, spanned a whopping 366,000 login attempts. Sounds like an easy case - 366K over 34 hours is over 10,000 attempts per hour.

But an easy catch? Not by existing volumetric detections, because the attack did not originate from one single IP address. In fact, we discovered that well over 1,000 different IP addresses participated in this attack. Let's... Read more

I have an Inspiron 15z 5523, bought brand new back in '13. I updated it to W10 last year, and everything worked fine. When I did the update, first thing I did was to create an image of the system in a USB drive for future reinstallation / recoveries.
Yesterday I wanted to format the laptop and do a clean reinstallation of the system. I plugged the USB drive and launched the recovery app. I selected the full format option, and the PC rebooted automatically. Problem is that from that moment on, it fails starting windows. The error reads:
"File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors."
After that, I have tried to repeat the process, forcing the system to boot from the USB drive. It will load the recovery app and start the process, but at 2% a different error message appears (code: Error 0x40001100200001005" and the process is interrupted.
I have read that this second error message usually appears when trying to do the recovery on an OEM drive, not the original one. However, this is not the case, I haven't changed anything in my PC.
I have also tried to install a W7 image I have, but when it gets to the point of selecting the drive where the OS will be installed into, the list appears empty. My laptop has an SSD drive and a HDD, though. I encountered this situation when trying to install Ubuntu a while ago.

As this signals a memory problem, I removed and then reinstalled the memory modules. When I rebooted it, the system made it past the BIOS screen, but now it's stuck at a dark screen with the message:

Keyboard is unresponsive. Any ideas? Did I maybe reinstall the memory modules incorrectly?

Hello all,
I need to reinstall Win 7 on my pc after my HD failed. I am thinking of using a SSD as the new primary drive.
Here are a few questions/doubts that I still have after doing a lot of research online:

1) From my understanding, the only way to reinstall the OS on a new disk without having to reinstall all the programs is through an image, is this correct?

Since, the other questions are about a possible way to get an image of my failed HD drive, I think a little background might be needed.
After the failure occurred, I was not able to boot into Windows anymore (nor normal, nor safe mode, nor last known good configuration). The only way I could access the hard drive was through the command prompt in the recovery environment, which allowed me to back up the contents of MY Documents. I was able to run chkdsk which showed no problems on my boot partition (C:) and a few problems on my Windows partition (D:) which ostensibly disappeared after running chkdsk a few times. However running sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c: /offwindir=d:\windows\ resulted in Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.. The attached file sfc3.txt contains only the lines of CBS.log showing potential problems.
Unfortunately, I also decided to run the Western Digital HD analyzer Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS whose Quick Test terminated with "Seek not complete Error/status code: 0108". After that test, I cannot see the HD anymore from the DOS prompt, ... Read more

It did this for a minute then went back to my desktop. then the screen greyed out again and changed to a new screen. It looked like a digital image of the inside of a computer with wires and chips. It panned in to the left to where a little figure was kneeling in the middle of the 'computer'. I recently downloaded IE8 in hopes that it would fix a Yahoo mail freezing issue. It did fix that issue but now i have another. When going onto certain sites (such as my banking site) I get a message that says "Internet explorer has stopped working" It will then loop back to that site and keep trying.
I would also like to know why I can't open attachments in Yahoo mail. I couldn't with IE7 and still cant with IE8. It runs through all the steps and looks like it's going to open...but it never does.

I'm running Vista Home Premium btw.

Thanks for any help!!

Update: Ok...I've found out a few more things that may help. I removed my Norton 360 from start up and rebooted. So I had no antivirus at all....it then ran perfectly fine. It opened everything and nothing froze. I of course thought it was a norton issue so I downloaded Avira....now it does the exact same thing with Avira running. I can't open attachments and IE freezes and Google Chrome freezes. If I try to open my antivirus after the freeze...it freezes too.
Please help..thanks.

Hi Chronos2k I'm having a problem similar to yours. I run McAfee Security. I think it's the antivirus software. It started several days after installing IE 8. McAfee started giving me security setting warnings and won't allow downloads or even open up some web pages properly. I'm going to look around some more and probably will do what Red Dawn is suggesting.I found this quote on an earlier post by Red Dawn.? I would strongly recommend [Temporarily] disabling your anti-virus application and any anti-spyware application's "system protections" (other than Defender's) before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. If you're running a third-party firewall, I would recommend [Temporarily] disabling it and then [Temporarily] enabling the Windows Firewall before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade.? Create a Restore Point manually before installing IE8.? Reboot twice after installing or uninstalling IE8.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...ternet+explorerGood luck,Olywane

Greetings,

I spent 2 days trying to get rid of the Internet Security 2010 trojan virus on a Pc on my home network. What an experience! Thanks to this website, you had the solution that removed the virus and put things back to 'normal'.

However, now IE does not find any website? I have email access no problem. I ran the MS diagnostics and it says that winsock is ok, but HTTP and FTP are not granting access. Did this virus change some port settings or anything like that?

It's weird, because it only happens with the login that I used to remove the virus. If I log on with another login on that PC, the Internet is accessible with no problem.

By the way, there were some left-over residue in the registry which I managed to clean up with no side effects. Search for IS2010 and just delete the entries. There were maybe 6 or 7 of them...not too bad.

ANy ideas out there on the IE problem? (I'm using version 6, SP3 on that particular PC).

Thanks,

Scott M.

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I had what I believe was a virus/trojan on my PC, and after trying a few antivirus scans, quarantining the infected files etc. I still hadn't resolved it. Therefore I tried to reinstall Vista (which I had done successfully previously). The reinstallation went fine, and then it asked me to set a password for my account which I did. However when I got to the logon screen it told me the password was incorrect (I'm sure I am typing in the same word). Therefore I can't get into the system to do anything. I can't reset the password as I haven't got a reset disc/usb. I do have the original Vista DVD so I resigned myself to reinstalling again. However I can't get Windows to boot from the DVD. There is a DOS screen during boot up that says 'press any key to boot from CD/DVD' but when I press keys nothing happens and it carries on to the logon screen. I can get into the setup screen by pressing Del and I have tried changing the boot priorities to 'SATA CD ROM' but after a restart it still just carries on to the Logon screen regardless.

Can anyone suggest how I can either reset my password or reinstall windows again using the original DVD?

Thanks!

A:Vista Startup & Reinstallation Issue

Not sure why it stopped booting from DVD, but something must have changed. Check BIOS to see if the DVD is set to top priority. Make sure it is clean amd unscratched.

You could also try booting up with a CD or USB and deleting all the partitions on the drive. It will default to another boot device if nothing bootable is on the hard drive.

Parted Magic disk partitoning tool (Bootable CD image)
If you prefer a bootable USB key, download and run Linux Live USB Creator. Choose the Parted Magic distro, and it will download it and automatically create a bootable USB key.
This CD (or key) contains many useful tools. You can partition, recover files, recover lost partitions, make disk images (by several different methods), transfer files between media, scan for viruses (It can serve as an Alternative Trusted Platform for search and elimination of rootkits and bootkits), examine and benchmark hardware, access the internet, and much more.

Hi, I have recently installed XP Pro into this computer and i also have Windows XP Home. (XP home is in the windows directory and XP pro is in windows2) I can chose which one i want to start. It seems pointless but i will format the drive and install Pro soon anyways.

Recently, when i use XP home (Which is what i had to begin with) i cant load any pages on IE. I have IE 7 and i get this message when i attempt to go to any site.
The message says
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel"

How exactly can i fix this? I have gone to the folder options in the control panel. but im not sure what to do now.

Hey guys,
It seems I am not alone on this issue, but mine seems to differ a bit than the others I have read. You can actually get online. I go to any website(it will start to load) and I automatically get a black screen and a auto reboot. If I sit on my desktop everything works fine. I will give you as much information as I possibly can because my computer has been a complete nitemaire lately and I have just resolved some issues, but as it seems the more that I solve the more seem to pop up. Anyways heres a quick overview on what I have changed and what seems to be the major problem.
I updated and ran All of these programs:
AVG free, Adadaware SE, Spybot, Cwshredder, Malicious Software Removal Tool (microsoft, the july version but, I will run the august version ASAP), Norton Antivirus 2004 with updated Definitions, and a few other spyware programs, that I forgot the names now.

Ok first off about 1 week ago I had the DLL and DR. Watson error that wouldn't let me navigate through my folders, without closing the folders and driving me crazy. So I "tryed" to run sfc /scannow (I wish I knew about this scan a year ago!) but, unfortunately I completed everything on this link with no success:
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
So I decided to system restore(which I just turned on 5 days ago, because I have had ALOT of problems with it in the past, so I had to roll my computer back to a better state but it was not in "great' shape either)

Hi,

I would suggest you to follow the below mentioned steps in order which could fix the issue:

? Run an Internet Explorer reset Fix it http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9646978
? Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling IE. If not, then use the following FIXIT for uninstalling the same http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9787447 Then proceed with downloading an updated version of IE from the: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/internet-explorer/products/ie/home
? If the issue still persists, try creating a New User account to check if the problem persists.

Here is my problem. This is my computer at work, running windows 98, 2nd edition. I work for a
florist and we have a floral service through 1800flowers. What it does is a Bloomlink client automatically
logs onto a web page that checks for orders to our store and if there are any prints them out. This
service has been using an older version of Netscape and just recently decided to upgrade. I received a
message with instructions on how to download the new client. I did that and tried out the new client
icon and got nothing. So, I call Bloomlink, tech says that they are now using internet explorer. He
has me bring up the ie browser and inter beta.bloomlink.net. I get sent to a search engine site. Try
many more times, no luck. He says it must be my isp blocking this somehow. Basically tells me to
call him back when I get it fixed. I can reach this site, which looks like a login page, from other browsers.
My isp says since I can get there from other browsers, its not there problem. They suggest calling
Microsoft. I will do this, but wanted to get your opinions first.

After suggesting to uninstall IE7, I tried to download an earlier version and it said I must uninstall IE7 first. I tried doing this, but it was not on my Add/Remove programs list. I know about the whole "Show Updates" thing and it should be under Windows Update, but it was not. As a matter of fact, a number of my programs are not on the Add/Remove list. Below is a picture of my add/remove programs. These programs are the ones I have installed, yet I have more that are not showing.

This wouldn't be a problem, considering I use Firefox, but my windows update is not allowing me get to the site, since it requires using IE7. Also, other programs use an internet applet via Internet Explorer, which I cannot access. Now everytime I even click on IE7, it says Error Report (Send or Not to Send). I can't think of any way to get rid of it completely. It's kinda bad because I recently bought McAfee (the three CD package) and cannot use them since the control panel is on an IE page/applet type deal. I considered reinstalling Windows; alas, some restoredllthingyissue caused it to fail, so I suppose that's out of the question.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: The system is free of viruses, spyware, adware, etc.

Hello and Welcome toTSF

Some issues with IE7 are that it pooches your systems uninstaller.

If "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" does not exist via Add/Remove Programs, run %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. You need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.

I'm sorta new to the net, and i started running into a problem browsing not too long ago. For the life of me I can't figure out what setting I changed. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated by someone who's still trying to get the hang of things.

Easiest way to explain this is to give an example. I am using IE6 and the Yahoo! search engine. (this has been going on for a month or so now).

I'll search for explorer skins for example. Yahoo! returns one result. If I click on the link on the bottom of Yahoo's page to search Google for the same thing I'll get this instead of it displaying the results :

http://rd.yahoo.com/M=134020.2188486.3634348.2127462/D=yahoo/P=m2a1lkn4112e0400/S=2766679:SE2/A=1147668/R=0/*http://www.google.com/search?q=explorer+skins&source-id=yahoo-b

I have to remove everything prior to the asterix for the address to function properly. Any clue what's wrong ? I'm lost currently. Thanks in advance for your help.

If this is the only place or site this happens I would say the problems are on their part.

You can try the IE repair tool and see if that helps. You said you have removed a lot of stuff so maybe you also removed something you shouldn't have.

Go to control panel, add/remove programs. When the add/remove window opens click or highlight IE Explorer. Click remove, when the menu asks what do you want to do, click repair.

Also check for the following. These are all free programs to use,
Ad-Ware Checks and removes spyware

Hi guys

I made the decision to download IE10. To be honest I cannot make any distinguishable difference to IE9 in terms of speed. I don't like the fact that to switch to 64 bit browsing you need to change enabled protection something or other and reboot. Seems a pain.

Anyway the main backwards step/problem is accessing my Netgear WNDR3700 v2 router web GUI now. Whereas before it would be instant or at most a few seconds to show up. Now it often takes 10-20 secs to respond. It's intermittent as on occasion it is instant. I know the GUI was designed I think when IE8 ruled the roost but I find this odd. I tried all types of compatibility settings and changing the mode under developer tools. Plus clearing browser cache etc. No change. I am not a fan of having several browsers cluttering my laptop so I only have Mozilla as an alternate browser and there are no problems at all with this.

Any ideas on the router GUI issue, just plain not good with IE10? All other browsing with IE10 seems fine apart from this. I tried Netgear forums but no real help. I can update firmware to receive a newer GUI but the firmwares are buggy (well documented issues) and the one I have is most stable.

Cheers
Wayne

A:Internet explorer 10 issue

Actually the more I think about and use IE10 it seems to be far slower accessing internal devices. So for say my router 192.168.1.1 or say my book live NAS 192.168.1.8 or my draytek access point 192.168.1.3. The router is the worst offender but they all intermittently take over 10 seconds to respond in the IE10 browser but then sometimes they are instant. I don't recall this on IE9 and when using Mozilla I don't see same 'waiting for response' delay. Normal external sites seem pretty much fine all the time.

Very disappointed with ie10 so far. Once again seems like change for the sake of change. Maybe I should not of updated but no doubt windows update would of soon be pushing it in our faces. It just seems updates these days are bad wherever they come from. Microsofts new IE, the strange windows 8 obscenely lacking desktop start menu, even apple are at it with dreadful iTunes 11 and IOS6. It's all changing what was not broke and losing functionality. Trouble is you feel compelled to update either for security reasons or to be able to sync your new device as it will only work on latest update.

Sorry I sound like a moaner. Just very dissillusioned at the world of tech these days.

Microsoft changed the configuration of Outlook Web Access (OWA) using Internet Explorer 11.

I cannot find the means to print only an email without the rest of the screen printing.

Also, it now uses a 'New Message' option instead of a dropdown menu for the previous 'New' option. This hides the procedures for creating distribution lists.

Any assistance you could provide on these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Try adding your domain to the "Compatibility" list. To do this, click the "gear" on the top right, then go to Compatibility View, and add your domain to the list. It should refresh the page automatically, but if it doesn't, you will need to do it manually. (If you are viewing email, it may bring you back to the login page. If it does that, just login again...)

My browser version is Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702
The operating system is Windows XP

I've identified this issue as a problem with my computer, and not the website I am accessing as I am able to access the website and all links within on other computers, but I'd really like to find out how to resolve this for mine.
