Enabling GPU and Motherboard HDMI Ports

Q: Enabling GPU and Motherboard HDMI Ports

I want to set up dual monitors on my computer. I have two HDMI ports; one that is on my graphics card and one on my motherboard.

The GPU port works just fine. The motherboard HDMI port does not. I did some research and learned that I need to enable that in BIOS. When I tried to do this, I found out that my USB keyboard does not work for BIOS. I did further research on this and found that I can change the settings on my Universal Serial Bus controllers to enable my USB keyboard by unchecking the "use automatic settings" box, but that box is completely grayed out.

Help me out dudes. Any solution would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you can get into the Bios try using the mouse otherwise you need to get a PS/2 keyboard which should work in the Bios.

I have an HP Pavilion 550-154na desktop connected to my Dell monitor by HDMI cable from the graphics card, it works fine. But I'd like to connect a second monitor (or projector). The graphics card only has one HDMI port, but the back of the machine has two HDMI ports (covered with black caps), which presumably come off the motherboard. I tried plugging my monitor into one of these ports but the screen stayed blank. What are my options? Is it possible to get output from these ports or do I need to use a splitter or something?

A:Should my motherboard HDMI output ports work?

Hi: When your model has a discrete (add-on) video card, the onboard graphics is automatically disabled. Look under the Integrated Graphics specs. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-550-100-Desktop-PC-series/8499648/model/9242957/docu... You can get output from those ports if you remove the graphics card. If you leave the graphics card in, you can either hook up a DVI cable from the DVI out port on the graphics card to the DVI input of your monitor.  I would think most monitors have multiple inputs. If your other monitor only has a HDMI input, get a DVI to HDMI cable. You will not get audio from a DVI port.

I need to know if the HDMI motherboard in a 60" Samsung Plasma TV can be used in a Sony Bravia 52" TV. The motherboard in my Sony died and I have access to one in a Samsung Plasma that's screen cracked.

A:Is a 60" Samsung Plasma HDMI motherboard compatible with a 52" Sony Bravia HDMI motherboard.

No, it would not be, in the past I had to repair a tv for a friend that had his board shorted that was an LCD Sony Bravia 52 Inch and its board was very specific as with all Sony Products. The Boards on the TV's are the hearts and the companies that built them don't allow for parts to be interchanged easily. Your best bet is ebay and finding the part number to find a board, that's how I got the one I used to fix it.

Hi

Can anyone tell me how to enable a port in XP?

I have been advised to enable port 6901 to allow pc-pc conversation through MSN from behind a LAN firewall. Who, what, when. where, how and why??!!$%^

This relates to my recent post here and earlier elsewhere.

So I am told........

"By the way, voice uses both TCP 6901 and UDP 6901. Oh yeah, and with the Windows XP remote Help function you have to watch for remote control sessions over TCP 3389. "

.... so, how do I open the firewall to allow access to these ports?

b. UPNP ports - UDP 1900, TCP 2869

c. Hamachi ports ? 5900

d. Sensor unit communication ? 5000

e. Enterprise Port - default 80 and 90, depends on what enterprise is configured

I have an acer aspire laptop (vista) and want to use the hdmi for secondary video. The display properties won't do it and it won't enable automatically when connected. How do I do this? thanks

A:enabling hdmi

Boot into Bios and make sure HDMI is enabled. Then, depending on the type of Video card you may have, there should be an Icon for the display in your System Tray next to the clock, either the nVidia Display or ATI Control Center. There you can choose to either enable mirror display or Extend your Desktop across 2 monitors. You can also access it in the Display properties in the Control Panel.

Have an HP Pavilion 620 computer that uses a A7V8X-LA mobo. Noticed that the board has two SATA connectors that were not operational. I went into the BIOS to see if they could be enabled there, but there was no reference anywhere to SATA, so I couldn't enable them.

I did an internet lookup of the BIOS and found a reference to enabling SATA ports in the BIOS under the ADVANCED tab. Unfortunately the BIOS seems to be different on my machine the SATA enable feature is missing.

So far I have not found a BIOS update that provides this feature. Is it a lost cause?

Oddly enough the Linksys router user manuals will detail what you need to do!
You don't say which router but, for example, the WRT54G user manual ("linksys-wrt54gv1.1_ug.pdf") has a section entitled "The Applications and Gaming Tab - Port Range Forward" complete with screen dumps describing exactly how to do it.

Hello,

I am new to the forums, please take care of me. My friends told me to post problems on this site.

Yesterday, I bought a 10m HDMI cable and I plug it from my TV to my CPU. Everything was fine. The only thing was one of the games which requires Port COM1 and COM2 could not access.

I tried disabling the HDMI sound and it worked. Is there any way to change the COM port for the HDMI sound? I tried going settings on Windows and could not find any.

I just need the sound because it's a music game, from the Arcade. Everything was perfect before plugging my computer to the HDMI.

A:Can I use my motherboard HDMI port as well as my graphics card HDMI?

I've seen a number of computers where the addition of an Add-in Video card automatically disabled the onboard adapter. The only thing that worked to restore the onboard adapter was to remove that Add-in card. You may want to consider getting a different Add-in card that has 2 HDMI ports. Or if your motherboard has 2 PCIe X16 slots get a 2nd matching card.

Hi guys - I am trying to figure out if my ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard will allow me to use AHCI drivers in my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OS...

I cannot, for the love of God... find where in the BIOS might there be an option to enable AHCI on this board - I have looked everywhere and did not see such an option to exist; (however, I already have it enabled in my OS, but it won't kick in until I enable it on the mobo as well).

Or, could it be that W7 is already using AHCI but isn't telling me anywhere? How can I check to see if it is using it, or not?

Oh, by the way, this mobo's chipset is nVidia nForce4, and it does not have certified W7 drivers... so maybe I am just out of luck.

Anyone experienced with this particular motherboard, please help me out. Thanks in advance!

A:ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and enabling AHCI

Hi

I don't know this specific MB but on other ASUS cards there is an option to config the SATA devices, options being either IDE, RAID or AHCI. If you see IDE and RAID and no AHCI, then your MB won't support it.

I am currently doing research to figure out what my Laptop can do to support 120Hz at 1080p on an Asus VG248QE 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor monitor. After doing some research, I've found that HDMI 1.4b, along with Display Port and DVI-D can all support 120Hz at 1080p, and with a DVI-D to HDMI 1.4b adapter, I should be able to get this.

I don't know however, what kind of HDMI port my PC has (or if they're all the same)? How can I find out whether or not the HDMI port on my laptop will support HDMI 1.4b to get the 120Hz I desire? I am currently using a customized Toshiba Qosmio X70-A.

A:VGA and HDMI Ports Not Working

Assuming the built in dispaly is working OK, then it does not make sense for a driver issue.  By stating "It appears the VGA and HDMI ports are not working" just what is happening when an external monitor or display is connected?  Are you looking in the right place to enable the second screen?Right click on a empty spot on the desktop and then pick "Screen resolution"  It should show the normal display as #1.  Click on "Detect", it should then show the extra display.  Click on the "new" display to set it up.

My 750-247c has THREE (3) HDMI ports.   I've included a picture.  It has one in line with the DVI and Displayport (which I've label 1 and have a cable plugged in already), and two lower on the chasis, which came with removable, black plastic plugs in them.   (Labeled 2 and 3.) In all the documentation for the machine, including that on HP's website, it says it has only two HDMI ports, but gives no indication what the difference might be.   I would be grateful if someone could tell me for sure what each of these three HDMI ports are for and whether the capabiliy differs among them.  Is one connected to the graphics card and the others not, or vice-versa?   See picture.   Thanks!  Michael

I see the two HDMI ports that you are talking about, and they have  the black plugs in them. Here is what I think is going on: The Intel processor has a video graphic card built-in, and these two HDMI is what you will use if  no video card is installed. But, since there is a video card installed with HDMI, DVI and PD ports, HP decided to plug those little black plastic thing there. I am sure if you pull the video card out of the computer, and plug your HDMI cable on any of those two ports, you will see video.  By doing so,  I think the limitations are clearly understandable.

Over the past few years I've had most all of my  M4600  or other M series HDMI port refuse to put out a signal.  I've had several company visitors bring their Dell laptops in and if they are M series laptops will not communicate with our overhead projectors via HDMI. The projector simply says NO SIGNAL.  Yet on the same projector when I connect my E5450 it will project just fine.  This happens when using a TV using HDMI as well.
In all cases it SEES the projector or TV screen as a second monitor.  I've popped open the PROJECT app and told it to MIRROR the screens.  I can see the monitor add itself to DEVICE MANAGER when plugging in the HDMI cable and see it leave when unplugging it. This happens with Windows 7 and Windows 10.
I had a an old M4600's connected it to my TV.  It worked for months on Windows 10 then suddenly would no longer put out a signal over HDMI.  Again, I can see the TV by correct name in Device Manager when it's plugged in, I tell it to MIRROR or even EXTEND the desktop and nothing happens but NO SIGNAL on the TV. I pulled out an even older M4600 one that had been offline for about a year and it worked until MS did updates.  I went through the Dell updates and Windows updates and will no longer work - NO SIGNAL.
I put a brand new fresh Windows 10 image on the first laptop (that I had been using for months) and it no longer works - with a brand new image from MS.  I tried updat... Read more

Using an addon card will almost always disable the onboard gpu. You could simply purchase a video card that has two HDMI ports. Or you could simply use the DVI port. The only difference between the HDMI port and the DVI port is that the HDMI port also supports audio. The video signal (quality) is the same as they are both a digital signal.

Confused. As you saying it works one way and not the other?

If so, (and assuming that the HDMI is the one having the issue) have you verified the resolution showing when using the HDMI and have you figured out if the DVI adapter you bought is actually the correct one for the video card (IOW _ are you using a 3rd party DVI to HDMI or the one that came with the card)?

Hi,

I have a 6 month old Z30-A Portege i7 laptop (PT243A-0HW02X) running Windows 7 64bit, and the 13.3" 1920x1080 internal display screen is not working - nothing is displayed on the screen.

However I can connect an external monitor via the RGB cable port or to the HDMI port and still use the laptop that way.

I have tried various Function F5 Output toggles choosing Clone, External, Extend, Switch Display, but nothing works to get output back again to the laptop display screen.

On the External option I see a laptop icon in grey colour with a X on the screen, and a '1' on the other display icon, and a window appears for 'Toshiba Flash Cards' with red x error message " Failed to initialize Output Configuration dialog!".

There is no further help available to tell me what the problem is.
When I choose the Function F5 Output Configuration option, the 'Internal' line is greyed out, so I can't select it.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Could a BIOS update help to tell me if there is a hardware issue?
There is nothing about the display error in the Windows event viewer.

Thanks.

A:No display on Portege Z30-A screen but HDMI / RGB ports work

I have a similar problem.

When I boot up, I see the Windows 7 logo, but then everything goes black after that.

I can start the computer in safe mode and the laptop screen works no problem. In Safe Mode I can even switch to 1920x1080 resolution. So the video hardware + drivers are working, just not in normal Windows mode.

Tried reinstalling video drivers but no luck.

I also wiped the computer and reinstalled Windows 7 + video drivers and still no luck...

It started happening literally out of the blue... after six months, like yourself.

I have a Z30t-A-123.

Does anybody from Toshiba respond here or are we left to our own devices?

The HDMI ports are a sound output device.  If you have something plugged in which can produce sound you should hear it there.
Try opening the Playback devices window from the speaker icon on the taskbar.  You should see the HDMI listed and showing sound levels if actual sound is playing.  If you don't, look for any other device which may be showing changes in sound levels.  You may have to disable one type if it is getting your sound.

I have no use for the dGPU and I would like to disable it in BIOS completely, but will this mean that the HDMI ports (or other output ports) stop working? I read somewhere that the HDMI ports are connected directly to the dGPU but I really hope that is not true.

Two weeks ago my HP Pavilion that was only 14 months old crashed. The first thing we found was that the CD-rom port on the motherboard was no good. When we took the motherboard out you could see the damage to the board on the back where the processing chip connects.OK now we have used Dell Dimension 4100.We put in a brand new sony CD-rom/DVD player/burner and everything was working fine for the last few days. This morning I went to download a file from Western Digital that I will need for setting up my new computer when the motherboard comes in the mail.I put in a disk to copy to and that was all she wrote.I called Sony and it turns out that once again that my CD-rom port on my motherboard is bad.I tested the CD-rom player with my power supply from my new case and it is working. So I guess my question is...Is there something that I am not aware of as far as compatability is concerned? The box says compatable but does it mean what it says,or am I just avictim of bad circumstance and what the guy from Sony told me is true that these ports just go for no reason at all.I am now afraid that this will happen in my new system when I put it together and am wondering if I should just forget using internal CD-roms and just use external ones.I am using WindowsXP for my operating system in a Dell Dimension 4100

I have a ThinkPad S540 with a OneLink Dock (not Pro). It has work fine for several years until today. Power is getting through to the laptop from the dock but none of ports (USB, Network and HDMI) work. Ihave tried to install a new driver however, after installation I get the message:"Unable to execute file:C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\TP_Onelink_Driver_v11019.exeCreateProcess failed code 740.The requested operation requires elevation". It looks to me like the Dock has died but somehow the power supply to the laptop can carry on while the cleve stuff has stopped working. Any help appreciated.
