DELL VOSTRO 3500 BATTERY ISSUE (not charging and wont power on computer with charge) HELP!

Q: DELL VOSTRO 3500 BATTERY ISSUE (not charging and wont power on computer with charge) HELP!

So, my issue that ive looked everywhere for a solution to is this. I was about to give this laptop to someone and I reformatted the hard drive to clean it up before doing so. After this I went to dells site and loaded up the drivers for this machine. All is fine up till this point. Then I updated the bios to the newest version a12, and all went fine.

Well, later that day I needed to unplug the laptop and go to a different room and It just turned off after I unplugged it. It wouldnt turn on with battery power either. Plugged it back in and it loads fine but the battery is stuck on 36 percent charge and says not charging. Now im getting a message saying the battery needs to be replaced as well, which is *** because I know that the battery was working just fine before this day. Not only that why wont a battery with 36 percent charge turn on the laptop? Its got the flashing red battery symbol when powered on with the ac adapter but without the computer on, but still plugged in, the battery doesnt charge or have any lights.

I have already tried the uninstalling of the acpi trick, as well as the taking the battery out while its running, or taking it out purging the power and reseating. Ive tried all the common tricks to no avail. Not sure whats going on but I know this battery was good, and it still says 36 percent but wont charge and wont power the laptop on. Hope someone can help.

Thanks Gary

A: DELL VOSTRO 3500 BATTERY ISSUE (not charging and wont power on computer with charge) HELP!

First check: make sure the BIOS (F2 at powerup) recognizes the AC adapter. If it does not, the battery will not charge.
If the AC adapter is not recognized, try another Dell OEM adapter. If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter IS recognized, but the battery will not charge, unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec. Try again -- if the battery still won't charge, odds are the battery itself is bad.
If the battery is original to the system, it's about four years old - well past its expected lifespan.

I have done the custom settings for battery from dell power management. I have set that the battery should start charging when it is at 50% and stop charging at 80%. When the battery has charged 80%.It has stopped charging. But the discharging of the battery is not happening itself. I have to remove the ac power so that the laptop should start using battery instead of ac power. The battery should self discharge when it reaches 80% and start charging when it reaches 50%. which is not happening currently. Can any suggest any solution.

Hello everyone. I posted this topic earlier today, then edited it. Not sure if it's in the hands of the moderators again for checking, or if it vanished.  So reposting just in case.

I replaced three things in the last year for my Dell Vostro 3550 laptop. Last July I bought a new slim style Dell AC Adapter and a  new battery, both supposedly genuine. And in March this year I bought a replacement DC Jack power socket connector and installed it to the motherboard. All my parts were not bought from Dell, only other online sites like ebay. So I'll only buy from Dell direct now to assure genuinemparts.
The battery has been charging fine until now when I have to keep the adapter plugged in all the time. It says '8% available (plugged in not charging)' on the taskbar.
* I get the warning message saying that it can't determine the AC Adapter, that it may not charge the battery, and that I should connect a 90w or higher adapter even though my adapter says it's 90w.
* In my BIOS (I have the A12 bios update), next to 'ac adapter type' it says 'none'.
* There's no charging even with the laptop shutdown. I can remove the battery though and with the charger plugged in, the laptop is fine.
* The icon on the front panel illuminates red when I unplug the adapter, but there's no illumination at all when the adapter is reconnected.
* The centre pin inside the plug that is menat to be responsible for charging is still intact and seems cen... Read more

A:Battery not charging - Dell Vostro 3550

If the adapter isn't recognized, the battery won't charge.
First thing to replace is indeed the adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:
and if that doesn't get the adapter recognized, the mainboard is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Hi all, So few days ago I have noticed that my Dell Vostro 5470 not charging. It says plugged in, not charging. And sadly it is 0%, so I can't really drain the power, as I've read in some forums. As well, Vostro battery is not portable, that makes things even worse.
As I have noticed, the error accured after one of Windows update (I currently have Windows 10). Before I closed it (sleep) and left it for sometime running on low battery, so still don't know what what the real issue. I ran Dell Service test  (40min.), which said all is fine - battery is good. Also this show battery is good:

Please help me find the solution, as I am currently not in my home country and laptop is quite needed. Thanks, Kamile

I bought the laptop used. it appeared the battery wsdead. I bought a new battery. The battery would stay at 53 percent and when i would unplug the charger it would immediatly shut off. i troubleshooted in the device manager and reset the laptop. Nothing happened. I reset a second time and the battery was charging and the laptop would run off battery power. this soon stopped working. I continued to troubleshoot. i got it to charge again and run off battery power but now it will again not run off battery power. the battery is now at 74 percent so i know at some piont charging was happening. this is very frustrating. Iv built a gaming pc jst recently and i feel like i should be able to figure this out. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone,

My name is Tarun. I have been facing an issue with my newly purchased battery. I did not use my laptop for an year or so because my battery was dead and i didn't even remove that dead battery from the laptop, it was kept inserted for an year. A few days ago I purchased a new battery. When I turned on my laptop with the new battery and tried to charge it, I saw its charged percentage as 7%, I thought that it will be fully charged within an hour or so but it didn't. Although, when I hover the mouse on the battery icon ( right bottom under the tray ), it displays the message as 7% available (plugged in, CHARGING )....Please note, i wrote "charging".

To my surprise, percentage of "battery charging" never increases, I do not know what's wrong with it. Adapter works fine, windows runs fine, everything seems to be working fine.

I discussed with a naive person who repairs laptops. He wasnt sure of the fault but he guessed that that there could be a problem with charging IC. I didn't agree with him because of two reasons, 1st- he is a naive person, 2nd- If charging IC has a problem then it shouldn't have displayed the message " plugged in, CHARGING".

I am pretty much frsutrated and dissappointed. Could someone please help me and let me know what should be/ can be done?

thanks & regards
Tarun Bajpai

Power is not going through to the battery or the laptop. The battery and charger are just fine as I have got them checked plus the laptop just works fine with the current battery. The problem is that I cannot charge the battery or run the laptop by directly plugging in the power cord.

How I messed up:

I was trying to fix my old original dell charger but I accidentally connected the outside two silver wires with the plug but not the middle white wire and plugged it in the charging port. Result: It didn't charge so I tried my other working charger but even that was not supplying the power to the battery or the laptop now.

Have I burnt something? If yes, what exactly is it and how it can be changed? I am assuming one of the fuses or something of the motherboard is burnt because the laptop and its battery are just working fine. The only problem is the power not going through the charging port to the motherboard. The technician in my area said it cannot be the charging port as it ''looks'' fine from the outside. Something is just burnt inside and that is why the power is not going through. He didn't open the laptop or anything because I did not want to pay. This was just his speculative suggestion. All I need to know is what needs to replaced on the motherboard to make the power go to the motherboard and the battery. Thank you.

P.S. Laptop is not under warranty

1st time posting.
I've got a Dell Vostro 3500 that will run for a day or so, it will sit for a weekend, and it's fine. Then it will just freeze.
I spoke will Dell and went through all the hardware tests which it passed.
Then I re-installed Windows 7 Professional. And I installed Office 2007.
It sat on but unused for the weekend. I came in and was happy that it was still running. Later that day it froze again under no load. So I installed Speedfan with the suspicion that it might be overheating and if it did freeze I'd get the temperature readings from when it did.
This morning, with Speedfan still running I opened Word and closed it, no problem. Then I opened Outlook and before I could start to configure it the machine froze again.
So I checked the even logs, nothing in Applications and nothing in System.
We've got about 30 of these Vostros at work here and nothing like this has ever happened with them. I am at a loss on what to do next.
Maybe the power supply is sending a jolt through the system and causing it but I have no way to monitor that.
Any suggestions will be gratefully welcome. Thank you.

I used it most of the day today without incident.

I attempted connect it to my PC monitor using a VGA and to my TV using a HDMI but neither displayed anything. i don't exactly know where the best place to put this tread is, or if this is even the right forum. But i'll make a post here anyways.

So two days ago my laptop was not able to turn on at all and so i checked the ac adapter and it was beeping so i got brought a replacement from Canada Computers.

So everything after here is with my new ac adapter:

Now it powers on but if the power is connected after the computer starts up then the ac adapter is beeping and the computer no longer receives power but after a random interval of time the beeping stops and computer is charging again.

However if i put in the power line before the computer starts the power line is beeping at first but once i boot the computer the beeping stops and windows shows the power as connected.

Also when i change the Battery Mode in the Lenovo energy management panel the power disconnects and the ac adapter starts beeping again and after another interval of time the power is recognized by windows again and the beeping stops.

As well if i plug out the power supply from the laptop and plug it back in it takes a random interval of time for the power to come and there is also beeping.
So is there anything that i can do to fix this problem.

Ok ive scoured forums and websites but havent found my exact answer to this issue. I got a vostro 1015 free with a bit of a cracked screen(nothing to bad i cant work around till i order new one) but i installed win 7 ultamite and updated fully. Started setting it up for use with other 3rd party apps(mainly trying to setup android x86 through virtual box manager) when at first started blinking on charger led next day and wouldnt power up. Well finally got it to power but then sense it has been auto cutting stright off. And now it wants to boot to no screen sometimes others it boots up but post takes forever most times. Then other times it takes about 2 min before it even reacts to hitting the power button on.But almost every time it ether goes blank screen then powers off a couple min later or just shuts off entirely. Lcd test passed, cant complete diagnostics couse it cuts off right at end of mem testing so far. Ive systematicly taken ram,hdd,wifi,cd/dvd drive out and tried each time to boot. No success. Rarly can get a few sec in. WIndows before kill. Also i am aware i do have faulty battery(will replace) but i have also done these tasks of troubleshooting with and without battery and with a seprete charger. Any advice or idea i havent tried is much welcome....atm i have it dissassembled and checking all connectors. Also the power button broke off ribbin but got a spare to replace it.

A:Dell vostro 1015 power\graphics issue?

Sounds like it has some serious issues, you probably have a motherboard issue and it is taking a long time to pass post or isn't passing because there is something wrong and it can't pass so it won't move on.  Sounds like you are going to have to replace it.  All the stuff that you are mentioning that has happened sounds like a failing component on the motherboard that finally just totally failed and now Intermittently works but doesn't stay working very long.  Everything that is removable you have tried to boot with it not connected and still having the issue, then there is something on the board itself.

I have had my Dell laptop for almost two years now. I replaced the battery before the warranty expired (1 year?). The battery was working fine, but I was starting to have to jerry-rig the angle of the power cord in the socket to charge the battery. I purchased a knock-off AC adapter replacement. I started getting error messages almost immediately when booting up that cord might not be compatible with the laptop. As it was working, I didn't worry about it. The power light start flashing in a particular pattern then, which it has been doing for months (three fast orange flashes and one long white flash). Historically, a white light has meant "charged" and an orange light has meant low power. The AC adapter became increasingly less efficient in charging the battery until it ceased to charge it at all. I purchased the Dell AC adapter recommended for the newest version of my laptop model. There was no noticeable change. (I understand from Dell that the problem may have been that I purchased a 90W adapter, compatible with newer versions of this model, but that I should have purchased a 65W adapter as my laptop is older.) I returned that adapter to Dell and then purchased a re-furbished Dell 65W AC adapter through Amazon. Again, no noticeable change. The battery is taking absolutely no charge from these cords. As I remove the power cord from the socket, the computer instantly shuts down.

When I hover over the battery icon, it says the battery is 0% charged and that ... Read more

Hey like many others I'm having some issues with my FLEX 3-1580. Issue: The battery originally would not charge above 15%, now it will not charge above 14%. The battery light near the power button is on, and the charger works (tested with DMM). Sometimes I get a constant on and off between the computer detecting the power cord. This makes the screen flash back and forth in brightness going from plugged in to unplugged (This is remedied by disabling Microsoft AC Adapter in Device Manager, meaning it then stays "plugged in", still doesn't charge). If the battery is not plugged into the laptop it will start on AC Adapter after many attempts of 2 second boot/stop/boot/stop. Attempts: I have checked the voltages from the power cable internally to where it plugs into the board. The top two connectors get the 21V. The CMOS battery is at 3V. I reapplied thermal paste. I reset all connections. Looked for component burn marks but couldn't see any. I know other laptops have had issues with the MOSFETS but I could not find any MOSFET on the motherboard. Ran registry fixer with CCleaner. Updated all the drivers. Flashed newest BIOS In the end I don't know if its a software problem and something seriously got messed up by a virus in my registry or somthing.. Or if there is something on the motherboard that is bad.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 5520 Laptop since late 2012. It has been a great computer, and although I have recently upgraded to a new Dell laptop, I still use my 5520 for writing and entertainment purposes. The only reason I upgraded at all was because I had a hard drive go bad and didn't realize that it was only the hard drive at the time. I restored the computer with a different version of Windows 7 after I replaced the drive and everything is working great - except the battery charging. It is sporadic. What happens is I plug in the charging cord at times, the computer detects it for a second or two, and then it no longer charges. I ran a complete PC health check and it showed everything is working properly and the battery is healthy, but it did not detect it being plugged in even when it was. I also flashed the BIOS, and it had no real affect on the charging issue. WHAT DID WORK was shutting down the computer, removing the battery, and pressing the power button for 30 seconds and reinstalling the battery. After I do that, it does detect the charging cord is connected and the battery charges properly - but only for a week or two, and then I usually have to do it all over again. Any thoughts? Is my battery going? Charging cord? Any other thoughts? It's not a HUGE deal that this is happening. I love this computer. If I can correct the problem, I will. Thanks!

However, after when i tried to update my BIOS from Vostro 5460 244 C to Vostro 24-5460 755, an error message shows, saying ' Running on an unsupported system'.
I have tried to do whatever i can with my limited technical knowledge. Please help!

A:Vostro 5460 battery not charging

A BIOS update will not solve this problem.
First, check to see whether the AC adapter is recognized or shows unknown.  F2 at powerup.  If the adapter is unknown,
1.  Replace the adapter with a new, OEM Dell adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem,
2.  Replace the DC power jack in the system.  If that doesn't solve the problem,
3.  Replace the mainboard.
Note:  the Vostro 2460 is a notebook.  The Vostro 24-5460, despite the similar model number, is an all-in-one desktop.  You need the BIOS for the NOTEBOOK, not the desktop.  The latest one is A05
However, if the AC adapter is unrecognized, the BIOS WILL NOT flash and updating the BIOS WILL NOT solve the problem.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."
Shockingly none worked that I found.
Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.
A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.
To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)
Worked with an off brand battery also.
Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.
Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.
Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.

Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white.

So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white.

What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?

Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

also, try uninstalling the energy management and restart the system and check for the issue. also try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI from the device manager and restart the system and check for the issue. for more info on this action see this thread in the link:

The issue has been progressive over a few months. When the ac adapter is plugged into the laptop, the blue LED lights for a second then changes to amber. After a few seconds the LED goes off. On the screen the battery stsus icon will show the AC symbol while the LED is ON but it goes away whn the LED goes off. The battery does not charge. I have a new battery. I have another g6 laptop (uses the same battery) that i can charge the batteries in and the AC adapter works flawlessly in that laptop. After the LED goes out I have to remove the AC adapter plug from the laptop and wait a few minutes. Then when i plug the AC adapter plug back into the laptop power socket the cycle repeats; blue LED 1 seocnd, amber LED a few seconds, AC icon on battery status indicator,  LED off, AC icon disappears, battery does not charge. Two different AC adapters, two different batteries (one new and one older - both genuine hp batteries). If I leave the AC adapter plugged into the laptop the LED will not come back on and the AC icon never reappears. I must remove the AC plug from the laptop for a period of time to restart the cycle (short). When the issue started the cycle of charging was longer and it slowely over time has reduces to this few seconds. It seems maybe something in the charge circuit is overheating? The laptop will not run from the AC adapter without a charged battery installed, when this issue atrated it would run from jsut the AC for some time now the AC only "works" for a few ... Read more

Hi,I am using HP 430 Notebook PC with Windows 8.1. I am having problem for 3 days. The problem is at reaching 93% of batery charge, the battery indicatior in OS says "Plugged in, Not Carging" and with that "LED indicatior blinks" from orange to white with few seconds interval of time. Few seconds it stays white and after that it becomes orange in a cycleAnd the OS showing "Plugged in, Carging" after that "Plugged in, Not Carging" without removing charger chord. Also this happens repeatedly. 1. I have run Hp Support assistant Battery check, and result is "Promary Battery: OK"2. Have drained static charge, removing battery. But same result.3. Have tried with charging with another charger. No improvement. Did not found Battery test in BIOS diagnostic. Battery is 2 year old. Mosty use plugging charger chord. But use to drain battery twice in a month to keep battery healty. Pls give some suggestions for this trouble.

You've to replace battery with a new HP genuine battery.http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01732674#AbT12 years is good enough life. What are the cell voltages of each cell, cycle count after doing battery tests? Are you able to plug in AC adapter alone with battery removed, use laptop in usual manner?RegardsVisruth

Hello, I have a Lenovo u330p machine that was bought in Sept 2013, upgraded to Windows 10 in 2015. Recently, the device stopped charging (as of now: 96%, plugged in, not charging). I checked the Lenovo Energy Manager, the Conservation mode is disabled. I checked the Power Options on my Control Panel and it is on Daily Mode. What is the problem that is causing my battery to not charge? What can I do? Please help, thanks!

I received my new P72 a few days ago. It would not power up on just the battery so I plugged in the power supply that came with it (230 Watt) and it started right up. The battery gauge in the taskbar showed "0% available (plugged in, charging)".  It was like that for the next day and a half while I continued setting it up with everything from the old P70. The P72 was attached to AC for over 24 hours by that time.I eventually got to Lenovo Vantage and followed some leads in the forum about resetting the battery status to more accurately reflect the status.  I initiated the 'Battery Gauge Reset' from Lenovo Vantage and this screenshot (I manually added the text from the taskbar icon in the black rectangle to the screenshot...)  didn't change for four hours. I hit the red 'Stop' button and continued scanning the forum.I disconnected the battery and reconnected it with no change to the "0% available (plugged in, charging)" for a few hours. I thought that the connection 'seated' a little better but I'm not sure. I unchecked the "Airplane Power Mode" selections in Lenovo Vantage (hint from the forum). No change.  Then I disabled the "Battery Charge Threshold" setting. No change.  I added a second 'power plan' (High performance) to the 'Balanced' plan and selected the new one (can only run on AC anyway). No Change.I had already applied all Windows (Windows Pro 1809) and Lenovo updates.  Lenovo Vantage had found and installed these updates:I could not fi... Read more

Dell Power Manager Lite says battery is operating normally, but Windows says "plugged in not charging". Why!!!

T470S with Windows 7, this is the 3rd year in use. Most of the time it has the power adapter plugged in. I set the battery charge mode at "Optimize for battery life", it normally will charge up to 75% then stop charging.  Two days ago something strange happened: first I noticed that it will charge to 49% then stop, then couple of hours later it's 17%. I just thought there's no way that both batteries could deteriorate so fast, it must be the battery gauge. So I clicked the "Perfrom Reset" button to reset the battery gauge, and let it run it's full course over night.  This morning when I check it, it's only 4% left. Needless to say if I un-plug the power cord, it will shut down instantly. But when I opened the "Lenovo Power Control", and view the status of battery, to my surprise, it says condition of both batteries are "Good" and gives me a green icon. But it does show that battery 1 (the 21.2Wh one) is 0% remaining, and battery 2 (the 19.73Wh one) is 7% remaining. Seems that battery 1 is completely drained, and won't charge, and battery 2 is barely charging, but the question is: why the Power Control still shows Condition Good? How to tell if the battery is really dead or not, besides using the Lenovo Power Control? I changed the battery charging mode to "Always Fully Charge", and waited for half an hour, no, magic didn't happen, it's still 4%. Anybody has similiar experience? Any advice is appreciated!

I had some strange battery behaviors with my YOGA C630 WOS. It feels more like a sotware/firmware issue, but I am not certain.  The basic premise is that the notebook stops charging at around 79-80%. If I monitor the charging current, it charges at about 10-15W in the beginning, then begins to slow down and gradually drops to 2-3W and then stops when reaching 79-80%. In essence it behaves as if the battery would be fully charged at that point, even though it is not.  I tried draining the battery and charging from empty, but it gives the same results.  Also, while plugged in at 80%, if I remove and reconnect the charger, sometimes it will charge for a little bit again, before stopping again. Rarely I have also seen it start charging for a brief period. So sometimes it went up to 86%.  I did get to fully charge it maybe once or twice.  Battery wear is currently reported at 5%, althoug it did change during the lifetime of the product. Actually it jumped around a lot in the beginning (6%-14%-8%-19%) before settling on 5%. Now it has been at 5%. (I started using the device in April, so it is not very old).  The battery lasts for a really long time, so this has rarely been a problem for me, but would still be nice to have a solution to it. It almost feels like as if it had a charge limit set, but there are no options or ways I know of where you can set a charge limit in a non-thinkpad Lenovo. Since there are no drivers to ... Recenty I install Windows 8 to my laptop (Dell Vostro 3300). But When I plug in the adapter, it just a few seconds to charge and back to  not charging anymore. even when I shutdown and plug in, it still wont charge.
I already try to uninstall the ACPI driver and unplug, restart and plug in again. in fact, I already try all options that show when I google it.
I try to switch with other batterie and adapter from my friend with same version of my laptop, but  still it wont charge. please help me to solved this. thank you.

A:Dell Vostro 3300 in Windows 8 Not Charging When Plug In

Are you using an original Dell adapter? Is the adapter frayed? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay in firm or does it fall off easily? Is there any charge on the battery available?
If the battery charge is more than 10% - then update the BIOS - http://dell.to/28ORaZe
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
