Skype disconnects me from the internet

Q: Skype disconnects me from the internet

Hi,

New to the forums. I have been using skype for months with no problem. I am in the same location, using a shared linksus modem and with no changes to my computer. Running windows 7. For the last 10 days or so, whenever my skype phone rings, i get automatically disconnected from the internet? I've seen a few others with this problem, but no solutions? Once the call drops, my internet reconnects itself. Otherwise, I have no problem connecting and staying connecting...its just when I try to use Skype...

Very confused why this is happening now and not before? Annoyed Any help please?

I am downloading an older version of Skype... will see if this helps...

Preferred Solution: Skype disconnects me from the internet

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Skype is P2P, many ISP's block P2P automatically, could also be the additional Skype P2P traffic filling you bandwidth. Suggest you check with your ISP

Hi All
I have been having internet disconnects every since I have had VISTA. It is the same that used to occur in WIN ME & 98. It happens when you spend a long time surfing on one web site. There was a fix for this problem then and I have forgotten it. It is not my server as I have another computer with WIN 98SE and it does not happen. I have to cycle my DSL modem off & on to reconnect. I am connected through a router to a second computer and to the modem and the second computer stays connected. The internet icon (lower right display) will indicate local only is connected.
Any help would be great. Forum

If you're using a laptop or server, the network card may be configured to go into power saving mode releasing the IP address after a set amount of time of non-activity.

Which version of Windows Vista are you using? Vista is known to have plenty of networking issues on it's own so it may be worth searching Microsoft's KB (Knowledge Base) at www.microsoft.com if you're familiar with it.

Also your computer system mentions a Dell E-520 which appears to be a standard desktop PC, would you be able to confirm this?

Finally, if you could post the results of an "ipconfig /all" while the network is connected and then when it becomes unavailable, this would help troubleshoot the problem.

Roden

Hello, I just got a new computer and I'm having internet problems. I used to use an old XP desktop with direct connection and it stayed connected, used my vista laptop with direct connection and it stayed connected, and now with my new W7 desktop the internet does not stay connected. It just disconnects and reconnects in a split second. This interferes while I'm playing games (3 different games), it'll tell me I have lost connection, and when I check my internet connection it says I'm connected. Sometimes I see the little internet connection icon on the bottom say X then a little loading circle then back online in a second. It interferes when I'm streaming also. It happens every 10-30 min or so and it gets REALLY annoying. Anybody have similar problems? Any way to fix?

Hi I have also been experinsing these problems. I am a video game player as well and whenever I try to play on my laptop my internet disconnects. But all my other devices that use wifi work fine. Also there is nothing wrong with my computer because it works fine on other networks such as my schools. I recently moved and am now using a different internet provider ,centerylink. I think I have to change my modem channel but centurylinks website were you change modem settings is a scam. The website does not work and my parents think theres something wrong with my computer and are refusing to change internet service providers. So I am wondering how If I can change modem channels a different way.

Hi, You might have another wifi signal very close to your house that is on 'your' channel, it happens.
You can only move your channel to one of three different frequencies, that is the lowest, the middle or the highest one. So say your current channel is 6, there is no point going to 7, it's still too close.
If the 'other' problem wifi channel near you is say '1' then you should try to go to the other end of the range.
You change your WiFi channel in your router, then your laptop will find it.
You don't need a website to do that, it's between your laptop and your router.
You make the changes through any web browser, and the details will probably be on the label of your router.
But this might not the problem, although it's a fairly easy one to 'fix' if it is.

Hi,

First welcome to TSF!!!

Next I would try a couple of things. Start off with a power cycle of your equipment, and see if that helps. Next you would need to narrow it down to what is causing the problem. Does it only happen when you are using chrome or does it happen with other browsers, more to the point does it happen with other programs that use the internet like email, instant messaging, etc. Are you running any programs that allow you to torrent, that can cause issues with your connection.

Cheers!

I have verizon dsl. I open internet explorer, surf for about 15 minutes and all of a sudden i lose my connection. I try to log back on but it will not let me. I reboot and I can get back on for another 15 minutes and it disconects again. I unplugged my modem this time and plugged it back in and I was able to get back on the internet. Any ideas what this could be?

A:Internet disconnects

Hi theriffs1

I have Verizon DSL also, I was receiving the Pop up ballon: An network cable has been unplugged about every hour.

I would need to physically reseat the ethernet cable, (are you using an ethernet connection or a USB connection?), finally I purchased a new ethernet cable and that problem went away.

I did call Verizon, they have a free upgrade from 1.5mb/368kbps to 3.0mb/768kbps, it was offered to me without my asking.

Have you tried an ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew from a command window?

Start > Run
key in:
cmd /k ipconfig
Click: Enter
The information appearing will show you what your IP address is, and how long before it expires.
My IP address renews itself every 15 minutes.

At a command prompt in the same command window key in:
ipconfig/release
Enter
Then key in:
ipconfig/renew
Enter
Your IP address should be renewed.

Have you had any viruses that may have corrupted your Winsock?

Let us know if this makes a difference or not, and if you don't have the upgrade yet, call Verizon and get it!

Welcome to TSF.

We will take a look at your system for malware, but it's unlikely the cause of loss of connection. If we can't locate a problem, you will be encouraged to ask for advice in the Networking forum, here at TSF.

Download HiJackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HiJackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose [Do a system scan and save a logfile].
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on [Save log].
3. Post the HiJackThis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HiJackThis since they may be harmless.

When I turn on the Internet (I have a modem), it works fine until I turn other programs on then the Internet basically turns off, but the computer says I'm still connected to the Internet. Why is this doing this and why is the Internet turning off?

If I'm downloading something off the Internet say a game demo or a game update the Internet would just turn off like I said before and then I would have to disconnect and then reconnect and try redownloading and sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

I found a pattern or it's just coincidence, but when the downloading box isn't the main thing selected for a while the Internet turns off. Someone please help and don't tell me to ask my ISP he's the other word for donkey.

So heres the deal.
Ive recently upgraded from windows XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64bit, this ofcourse means Ive formatted my harddrives and made a clean install.
But now Ive realised, that whenever I try to download a large file which takes several minutes, my computer will disconnect from the router and I have to let windows do its thing and it says its "Resetting Network card" After this I have to reboot the PC and yet again let windows do its thing where it tells me to let it reactivate my network card. When Ive done this Ill be connected to the internet again. Ive tried to let my PC run for several hours just to make sure its not random dc's but within 5 mins of me starting a download it dc's. I can browse around just fine and have tried countless of different solutions around the web and none have helped so far. Now I beg you to give me Every single possible solution that you guys can think of. Keep in mind that I have another PC running vista connected to the router and that one works just fine, and I never had this problem on XP.
Also please keep in mind that Im not all that techie when it comes to router settings and such, so keep it simple for the sake of my brain not overheating!

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a network driver problem but I don't see any network driver downloads fro Windows 7 X86 or X64 on the ASUS site for the Gigabit network device.

As a test, remove the router from the setup and connect directly to the broadband modem. Try a download and see what happens. If it fails the same way then the router is definitely involved. If it doesn't fail then try swapping the port and cable the router is connected to with the one currently in use by the Vista computer then try the test again.

If it works then it is either the Ethernet cable or some problem with that specific port on the router. If it doesn't make any difference, then try deleting the Gigabit network device from Device Manager as follows:

Press WinKey+R to open a Run box.
Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter
Expand Network Adapters
Right click on the Gigabit device and select Uninstall
Reboot and wait while Windows 7 rediscovers the device and reloads the driver, see if that helps.

hi Boltonsquad I have a similar sounding problem.
My connection to the network is reported as excellent but randomly the actual download speed drops away to nothing.
Does yours "mend " itself after a short while and start working again...or is yours off for good. I find rebooting the laptop resolves it faster than waiting for it to do it itself...until it does it again(not good).
I use a belkin router (number can be supplied when I get home if needed) ..maybe thats the common?

I'm loving Windows 8 Consumer Preview so far.
However, my internet connection (Cable/LAN/Hikari Fiber) is disconnecting after 5 or so seconds.
I'm using a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard).

The system is dual booting with Windows 7 and that connection is perfectly OK.

To get it to work again (for 5 seconds) I have to disable and re-enable the controller, and sometimes it seems necessary to delete the connection and set up another one.

Fortunately my connection is fast so I was able to stubbornly update a few small files via Windows Update by reconnecting many times, with a few % progress each time! Non of those updates were related to the connection hardware or this issue though.

So far I've tried (numerous times):

1. (The above update procedure, in case of hardware updates.)
2. Disabling and enabling the controller, and setting up the connection again.
3. (Swapping the drivers with Windows 7's, and then back to the originals.)
4. Re-installing Windows 8
5. Searching Marvell's site for driver updates.
6. Searching Asus's site for updates.
7. (Connection Login and Password are correct)

Points of note:

a. Windows 7 (dual boot) is connecting fine.
b. This is a hobby, so basic stuff should have been covered, but please advise anyway.
c. The timezone, date and time are set correctly.

This motherboard is very popular, and I don't see similar issues online, other than maybe wireless ones.

A:Internet (LAN) disconnects after 5 seconds.

OK. It's finally fixed. I should have thought of this sooner.

1. Uninstall the LAN drivers.
2. Get the MarvellYukon_Ethernet_V111053_Windows7 update drivers from Asus (Windows 7 / LAN).
3. To install them in Windows 8 Consumer Preview, run them in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
(Right click the setup program, choose the compatibility tab, Tick/check `Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and choose `Windows 7' from the pull-down menu.)
4. Hit Apply and/or Enter.
5. Run the program and install the drivers.
6. Reboot.

This is easy for many, but hopefully helpful for some.

Hey,
Recently, my PC has been randomly disconnecting from the internet every few minutes for about 5-10 minutes.
I'm sure it isn't the router or ethernet cable as I have tried it in my netbook which runs Windows XP and it works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to consider updating the firmware for your router. XP is old school and things have changed since then.

With no ipconfig/all info, no router hardware/model version info and no system specs I can only guess at what the problem might be.

I first noticed my internet dropping when i started redownloading my games on steam. It would download and all of a sudden the internet dies. I got to my network adapters and disable and re-enable and my internet goes back up.

My internet doesn't disconnect while i am just surfing the web.

Now, when i play games like HoN (heroes of newerth) or counter-strike source (sometimes). I will get disconnected over and over and it will be "limited connectivety" or something like that on the bottom right.. the little yellow icon shows up on my internet connections.

I connect straight to my modem and I am the only one connected to it. I have comcast cable.

Really gets annoying when I play games or when i download big files. It happens all the time when i play HoN. It will disconnect me like 2-4 times in the middle of the game and i would have to disable and enable my network adapter.

I am a new user an can't seem to find a similar question previously posted. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

1. I recently upgraded hardware and software: new hard drive, DVD/CD burner; XP Pro (clean install).
2. I have a unique ISP -- Communicom Dial Return, i.e. download via cable, upload via dial-up modem. Cable is always on, the actual connection requires the dial-up.

Problem: Internet disconnects at 20 min. no matter if the brouser is in constant use, i.e. downloading updates, etc., email being sent, whatever. Modem log at Diagnostics Tab notes "Hardware hang-up due to lowering DTR" I'm not smart enough to understand what that means.
If I make any change whatsoever to the Internet connection options, my computer will not connect ('unable to establish connection' displayed in dial-up thread.) Can't return to original settings and reconnect...must delete the connection on Internet Tools and reinstall via the Connection Wizard.
There must be a setting somewhere that makes my modem (US Robotics 56K Voice PCI) and XP Pro and Communicomm compatiable and allows me to make normal, typical settings and control how the internet connection performs.

Any thoughts
thx -- rah

if your using a usb modem that is powered by the usb port then likely the connection will drop due to poor quality modem
if your using ethernet port then it may be the email browser causing the session to drop check settings .

About every 15 minutes or so the web will stop working for me for about a minute. For instance I'll be browsing YouTube and a page will fail to load, but if I refresh a minute later everything is fine again. Strangely other things work just fine, for instance if I'm playing games online I never get kicked off and my connection icon never shows any problems.

I have tried all three major browsers, and my ISP can't see a problem. I've actually had this problem two other times but it seemed to just go away eventually.

Any idea what could be going on?

My dear friends

I am using a Windows XP Pro system. I use to connect to the internet with dial-up connection. Recently, my connection started showing a strange behaviour. I can connect to the internet, but after a few seconds of establishing the connection the system automatically disconnects from the internet and prompts to redial. When I redial it connects again but disconnects too. The same thing repeats whenever I try to connect to the internet. I checked the settings, but everything was right (I didn't change them either).

What could be the reason for this problem? Could anyone help me solve it, please?

Regards.

Vinod

A:Connects to Internet,disconnects soon after

Mostly this kind of problem is caused by bad connection, usually every ISP has more than 1 phone number for their customers to connect to the internet, maybe the phone number you were using was busy, try to connect again using the other numbers. If you don't know the other numbers, call your ISP and ask for another number you can use to connect to the internet.

hey,

Sometimes when i'm on MSN and Xfire they will both disconnect for no reason. I can re-connect to them as soon as I click connect again. Another thing which also happens is I will be playing World Of Warcraft and that will disconnect also. But, say if i'm in World Of Warcraft and on MSN and Xfire at the same time, MSN and Xfire will disconnect but WoW will continue to run ok. Or WoW will disconnect and MSN and Xfire will continue to run normally. It's really annoying as I keep having to reconnect. If the programs disconnect I can still view internet ok so the internet is still connected.

I use a Linksys WRT54GS. I have 2 Computers wired to it. If MSN and Xfire go off on the Computer I use they will disconnect on the other computer also.

, please help

A:Internet randomly disconnects

Just guessing, but if those services automatically disconnect if they get no signal from the other end within a certain time period then maybe you (your internet connection) don't have enough bandwidth to use more than one at a time.

Hi,
I have a comcast high speed internet connection. I use a Motorola SB5120 connected to a Netgear WGT624 which feeds to a linksys VOIP router RTP300. I have a Dell PC (XP) connected (wired) to the netgear router and two laptops (one is a Windows 7 beta and other runs a Vista Ultimate) connecting via the wireless router. I never used to have any issues with my internet connection (wired ,wireless) until very recently.

Now, when I start my desktop, the internet works fine for a few minutes (random, usually < 5 mins) and then doesn't connect anymore after. But if I connect my laptop from the same netgear router using a wired connection, everything looks perfect there. I can see that there is something wrong happening with my desktop PC.

The wierd thing about this is that, if I connect to the internet immediately to some heavy duty bandwidth (remote connecting to my office PC) from my desktop, the internet connection remains, but I just cannot connect to any other site. It feels like there is some contention for the available bandwidth. I tried reinstalling the network drivers on my desktop, but did not help.

Any help is very valuable, since this is very frustating.

Many thanks.

I'm new here, so bear with me.

Basically, my internet just cuts out, seems random, it's been happening for a while.

For example, sometimes with games in steam, the "server is not responding" message comes up, then the whole internet stops working, for around 5 minutes, sometimes longer, i usually have to reset my router. My ISP is "tiscali" (UK)

If anyone can help me, i will be eternally grateful. if you need any more information, i can post it.

thanks,

For a while now my Internet has been randomly disconnecting, it disconnects for only a seconds or less it seems, but is very noticeable when i am gaming as it takes a while for the game to reconnect to the servers. I am not sure if it is a problem with my router or computer hardware, as my brother has his computer setup in the same room as mine and we run off the same connection, and he never gets the disconnects that i get. All of my drivers are fully up to date.

System specs(windows 10)(Alll drivers up to date):
Intel Core i5 I5-4590 Haswell 3.3GHZ Processor LGA1150 6MB

In the background i am always running:
Razer synapse (for my mouse)
Corsair utility engine (for keyboard)

Ive taken many steps to try and solve the problem: Set it so that my computer cannot turn off the network adapter to save power, Switched from cat 5e to cat 6 ethernet cable, Ran antivirus/antispyware (nothing found), swapped ethernet ports (bought a network adapter that plugged into PCI-e), fl... A:Random disconnects from internet

Howdy MildMeowth,
This might seem counter intuitive, and perhaps a long shot... but I've found that both the Razer and Corsair utilities can cause "things." I know you need both keyboard and mouse functions, but try turning those utilities off while gaming....if it doesn't interfere with with the functional use of those devices for you...it shouldn't. You can always re-enable, but you can use either device without software installation.

Also, if you have the Nvidia Geforce Experience running disable that.
I know for a fact it can hog your boot time, and might be trying to update as you play, even though your drivers are current.
Just a thought, considering your brother has the same connection setup, but not sure if it's the EXACT same setup, or he's running the same stuff in the background...none of which may actually be needed during gaming. So one router for both computers, right?

Does this happen during normal web access, or just during gaming?

My Internet connection can go for days with no problem and then for half a day will disconnect every few minutes. The strange thing is that all I have to do to get it back is to disconnect the cable from my computer and reconnect it and in seconds I have Internet again. My internet provider cannot find a problem with the connection and all assume it has something to do with the modem or router but I cannot find any problem with them.

We have a router with 2 computers connected to it and we have a static IP.

I have no 3rd party firewalls and like I said, most of the week this doesn't happen.

I have read all kinds of solutions and have tried them all (installing router\modem\windows updates, etc...)

Instead of trying to figure out what the cause is, since my solution is taking out the cable and putting it back, thus forcing a reconnection, I wanted to ask if you know of any software that would monitor my internet connection and when it sees that it got disconnected, it would force a restart of the connection (like what I do manually by taking the cable in and out.)

Thanks.

A:Internet disconnects for no reason

Well, instead of manually taking the cable in and out, go into command promt (Start -> "cmd") and type "ipconfig /renew".

Have you tried scanning for viruses? In one case I had, an infected computer was attempting to attack other computers on the network, disconnecting them from the internet. Use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or SUPER Antispyware.

I've got AT&T DSL, which is on all the time. Nevertheless, after turning on the computer for the day, if I don't actively use the Internet for a while (about a half hour), I lose my connection. In order to reconnect I've had to restart the computer. What program fluke may be causing the computer to disconnect like this? What can I do to ensure that I stay connected? AT&T says it's not caused by them, and I've verified this to be true. I've contacted Compaq, but the guy in India has no solution. I've run Norton virus scan, Spybot, and Spysweeper, all of which indicate that I'm not infected with any malware. My operating system is: XP updated with Service Pack 2 and all subsequent critical updates.

I too am having problems with my internet connection disconnecting after about 30 minutes. I am using XP Home. I connect by an antenna on my roof receiving an RF signal (I think) or it might be a microwave signal. Anyway the cable comes down through the wall into my router. I have to power down the router and power it up again to reconnect. Anyone with ideas?

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Thanks for your cooperation.
