Apps randomly open when device not in use - Yoga Book YB1-X90F running Android 7.1.1

Q: Apps randomly open when device not in use - Yoga Book YB1-X90F running Android 7.1.1

Hi there, This problem has happened several times now, and can't find any solution so time to report it.Our Lenovo Book YB1-X90F is about 3 months old, and has been updated to Android 7.1.1 (security patch 1st August 2017), and recently we have had several instances of Apps seemingly open themselves when the Book is not in use. And by "not in use" I mean it's been closed, sitting on a chair, connected to power, not being used at all for hours. A week ago we heard strange noises in the room, and tracked them down to the Yoga Book, and when we opened the Book we found Youtube App open, playing some video of some baby crying. Closed the Youtube app and found several other apps were open, apps we rarely or never use. Chrome was also open with many, many tabs showing pages we had never accessed, and History showed they opened when we were not using it. Today we opened the Yoga Book and some new App we had not seen before was filling the screen. We dismissed it and then found the Google Play store was open, showing the page for this new App. And after closing the Play store app, and looking at task switcher, I found that Google Maps was open showing central america (I live in UK and have never looked at this region on Google Maps), Google Sheets was open (we don't use Sheets), Note Saver was open with lots of random squiggles and lines drawn on the page. There is no-one else in the house, so something is causing these apps to load on their own. Several times now the Chrome App has dissapeared from the home screen, and we had to add it again from the app drawer. The Google account used on this Yoga Book is also used on a smartphone, but this phone was also stationary on a table when the Book was acting up, and we have never even tested the stylus that was shipped with the Book so I don't think it's the sylus causing interferance. Any ideas? CheersBoxy

Preferred Solution: Apps randomly open when device not in use - Yoga Book YB1-X90F running Android 7.1.1

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Silly question, but... I love this app and came as a stock app with my Yoga Book. However, it is not listed in my apps on google play and when looking for it, it comes upd with a price tag on it. In case something goes wrong how can I get it back? If I back up my Yoga Book, will I be able to restore it?

I purchased a pair of Yoga Books this past week for my wife and myself, and the only major let down for me so far, is the inability to wake the device by any other means than pressing the power button.  Is it possible to add tap to wake, or wake by activity on the keyboard?  I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing we had this option.

So, my husband bought me a Lenovo Yoga Book last year for Christmas. I like it. I think it's cool to be able to draw on the paper (which is what I do traditionally) and have it show up digitized on the screen. I was able to do a couple of cool projects sketches on it, but I haven't used it to it's full potential I believe, so I put it down for a while. Then, I started to research different drawing apps, seeing all the amazing artwork that people were creating in these different apps and stuff, and it got me excited about going back to drawing on my Yoga Book. So, I went to try to draw in ArtRage, and when I would try to draw on the Wacom tablet with my pen, nothing would show up. However, when I would draw on the screen with my finger, everything showed just fine. I tried to update it several times, I tried starting it over, I tried using a different drawing app; NOTHING. The only time the pen would work on the Wacom Tablet is in Notesaver. Even if I had ArtRage open, anything that I try to write on the tablet will only come up in Notesaver. I wasn't trying to just factory reset it right off so I called technical support to see if there was anything that they would be able to do to fix it without me having to factory reset it.So, I called tech support and they told me that I would have to pay a fee of $40 to be escalated to their software support. So I paid the $40, and within 3 MINUTES  of speaking to me, the tech tells me to just factory reset it. I was LIVID. Like, th... Read more

On the iPhone, everything that matters lives inside the OS. On Android, it's split between the OS and Play Services.

Google Play Services is a system-level app, which is updated in the background by Google on every Android phone going back to 2010's Gingerbread release. As well as providing APIs that let developers interact with Google services, and porting many features back to older versions of Android, Play Services has an important role in Android security.

The "Verify Apps" feature of Play Services is Google's firewall against app-based malware. It was introduced in 2012, and first enabled by default in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. At the time of writing, 92.4% of active Android devices are running version 4.2 and up, and older versions can manually enable it in the Google Settings app.

Verify Apps works similarly to a traditional PC virus scanner:
Whenever the user installs an app, Verify Apps looks for malicious code and known exploits. If they're there, the app are blocked outright ? a message is displayed saying "Installation has been blocked." In other, less suspicious cases, a warning message may be displayed instead, with the option to install anyway. (And Verify Apps can also help remove known malware that's already been installed.)

While the underlying exploit may still be there, this makes it impossible for the bad guy... Read more

Good afternoon guys my name is Tamara. I'm a Mac girl so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I just purchased a 24" all in one desktop from Dell with Windows 10 for video/picture editing. Anyways, when I connected my WD My Book (that has worked flawlessly on my MacBook, and it has a bunch of videos and pictures stored) it doesn't open automatically and when I looked under File Explorer its not listed on the left side either. However when I opened Device Manager it was listed under "Disk Drives" and "WD Drive Management devices." Do you guys have any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tamara and welcome to Tenforums.
I think this has to do with formatting incompatibilities. The common format that both Windows and MAC can read is FAT32.
Probably should look at trying out the free version of HFS for Windows, to allow it to read and write to a drive formatted for a MAC with HFS File System.

Hope that helps.

There are a number of Android apps (Google Play-sourced only), mainly photo and video-related, which I like a lot, although I don't really like using a tablet. I've researched a bit into Android emulators which run on Windows 7 e.g. here

6 best Android emulators for PC | Android Authority

and while the idea sounds great, I wonder -- Android is said to have loads of security flaws. I work pretty hard to keep my Win 7 PC clean (I hope!). Is there a risk that by running Android apps, I'm running security risks?

A:Does running an Android emulator bring Android-type security risks?

First of all, it's simply not true that Android has "lots of security flaws". Of course it's not immune to viruses and attackers, but it's not inherently that its an immense risk in it. There are vulnerabilities, but most problems actually came from using untrusted software that abuses the devise. As always, the number one vulnerability in any system is the user.

Now to business. There is no exact answer to that question. It will greatly depend on what emulator do you use and how it's exactly implemented, how does it manages to run Android software and how much does it emulated and how exactly. Frequently, I would expect a different implementation of the Android low level API, meaning that bugs in Android will never afect an emulator (which in turn can have its own bugs), unless some behavior is there "by design", in which case the emulator should attempt to copy it.
Besides, I would expect the emulator to isolate the host computer from malicious Android software (which is not generally aware of Windows existence). Unless an Android virus specifically targets a particular flaw of a particular version of a particular emulator (which as already happened with virtual machines), I won't worry too much about it.

The comes the problem of what programs do you install on the emulated Android. When you install a virus there, it will attempt to do the same malicious actions than it would do on a real phone. Some actions will work the same, for example those i... Read more

I would like to watch videos on my Windows laptop and have the audio play from my Android phone. Is this possible?

The reason I want to do this is my audio jack on my laptop seems to be broken. I'm often in the library or others places where headphones are essential.

A:How to Stream Audio on Android Device while keeping Video on Windows Device

That would be very difficult.
Lets first find out if your if your Audio jack is broken.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your laptop? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers and type in your make and model# or service tag # and download the Chipset and Audio driver for your computer.

A:android apps

If it's running Android 1.5, the market isn't available on it. Go to the Pandigital website to see what applications, features, and updates are available for your particular model.

Unfortunately, manufacturers of these cheap devices have, in many cases, seriously misled buyers into thinking they're getting a fully functional Android tablet by advertising that they run Android. The truth is that there are many versions of Android which do not all offer the same features. In some cases, devices run a customized version of Android. It's an open source operating system, and distributions can be altered which means they offer different features and functionality.
