Tor enslaved my computer as server? Slow computer, clutter, possible intrusions

Q: Tor enslaved my computer as server? Slow computer, clutter, possible intrusions

Hello All.

I would very highly appreciate learning from you.

I have installed ( hopefully completely deleted ) Tor. I was looking to anonymously surf the web in order to watch US TV online in Brazil.

I also believe my machine is full of viruses adware malware etc...as I go to many online movie sites.

I already have utilized CCleaner AVG and adwcleaner6000 but the problems persist.

I ran the FRST64, have the logs and downloaded HijackThis.

I would really love to clean up my machine and be able to surf anonymously.....and prevent intrusions.

Really looking forward to interaction discussions, making friends and learning.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Norton detected that I have a trojan on my computer and it has said on several occasions since that it stopped an intrusion on my computer from an IP address. The Panda scan said my computer is not infected so it did not give me a log, but I noticed that it skipped from 35% to 61% whilst scanning my computer.

Mod Edit Moved to the Am I Infected forum..~~ boopmeHi guys, I bought this computer 6 months or so ago, and It's been abnormally slow for what it is....  http://speccy.piriform.com/results/Y2BT5yGFEcwwVpvahk6Cmiw    These are the specs, I just removed all Norton files with the Norton Removal Tool.. (If that's what that does, lol)  Basically everything seems to be slow, restarting the computer, loading. Sometimes web browsers wont fully load, (red x's), if I clear the cache and reload same page it'll work.  and another very annoying problem is with my windows media player, if I click a video, the first time it'll work, then I click another video, it shows loading for a while, than gives me "(File) Server Execution Failed" However if I keep refreshing the folder the videos are in after I play each video, I don't get the error. Thanks!

Thank you to anyone who addresses this!

I am using Windows XP on a Dell Latitude D510.

I use Avast Antivirus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. Both are running with no bad stuff found.

However, my computer is taking almost 10 minutes to boot up. I checked my StartMenu for Administrator, All Users, and My name, and I only have my Blackberry Desktop Manager.

I also get the "Server Busy" box with a "Switch to" and "Retry" option.

I have installed Hijack This as I have read on forums, and here is my log:

Was not sure if this was a Windows media Question or not. Forgive me if i am posting in the wrong section.

Like the title says, when streaming video from my computer onto the PS3, the videos feeze for a few seconds and then continue over and over. i guess you would call this "choppy". However, when videos are streamed from my roommates computer, they play just fine.

When googling this problem, all i got was WiFi vs Wired solutions. But i don't understand why it would work for my roommates computer and not mine if we are both using wifi....

it puzzles me.

Hello there,

I have an eight year old Gateway computer. It is just a regular, single home desktop. It has Windows XP Home Edition, 1.25 GB of RAM (originally had 256MB of RAM and I added two sticks of 512MB of RAM). I updated my computer to Service Pack 2 using Microsoft's Windows Update. My internet speed is about 6 - 8 MB's per second (cable).

Here is my problem: When I do not use my computer, it automatically starts to load like crazy. All I hear is the churning inside my PC's tower, but nothing comes up on the screen. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, the churning goes away. Also, when it churns, I see the hour glass next to the arrow on the screen. This happens once in a while, but it is suspicious. My computer hasn't been running like it used to, so I'm concerned if there are any viruses/trojans/malware/spyware deep inside my computer that are hiding from my numerous virus/spyware scans.

Also, when this problem started, I noticed that my Internet Explorer 7 has been scrolling up and down choppy on a lot of websites. Right now, if I scroll up and down this message body where I am typing this message, it will be sluggish. But, if I scroll Tech Support's website, it is not sluggish. Even when I highlight this text, it is sluggish to highlight. Websites like -- YouTube -- forget it. Very slow and I can't even play YouTube's HD videos as they are very choppy.

I would like to know from the experts if there is anything suspicious on my computer that shou... Read more

I've let my family use this computer for awhile, they started to complain it was "acting weird." When I jumped on to see, I noticed it was shutting down by itself and extremely slow. I got the computer to start up and tried to do a couple system restores. I then noticed then that the date/time on the computer was off. Saying some of the restore points were back in 2006, when I didn't even have this computer. After a couple failed attempts, I got the computer to restore. Its not randomly shutting off anymore but is still slower than it should be. I reseted the date and time, but I'm still worried something could be wrong. Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)

I have a HP Pavillion dv9417ca Notebook PC with AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology Tl-56, 2.0G Ram, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2.

The computer when running slowly makes a ton of noise starting up and running and tends to use more processing. The computer sometimes makes weird noises that aren't normal windows sounds and come from error's. Like intense beeping noises ocassionally. Firefox especially is insanely slow and the longer I run it the more processing power it uses up along with the plugins.exe. Sometimes it will uses so much that it completely freezes my computer. Lately I've also been having trouble starting the computer where it won't even load windows.

I've ran Ccleaner daily and Malwarebytes weekly and find nothing and the problem has been getting progressively worse. I have Avast which updates daily.

My computer has been acting very strange lately, and it's never done this before since I received it a couple of years ago. I had a party for my birthday (which is today) last night, and my friend wanted to check her messages on Facebook on my computer. I allowed her to do that, and at first she had trouble logging on to Facebook because my Firefox browser was set to ask me every time a site wishes to set a cookie on my computer. I clicked "Allow for session" on all of the cookies, and then I had to set NoScript (a Firefox add-on that disables scripts on websites) to Temporarily Allow facebook.com. She checked her messages and then exited out, but my computer was never the same after that. It has become extremely slow and unresponsive, and has frozen at least twice. Right before the second time it froze, I was trying to scan my computer with Ad-Aware, and I saw that while it was scanning, it had found 1 infection. Also, any sound that is played (for example, the sound that is played when you receive an error message) crackles and echoes several times before stopping. Any music that I play will skip, no matter what player I play it on. My cursor also has problems in that when I move it, it blinks and sometimes dissapears then reappears where I moved it. I decided to get help here, since I couldn't get anything that used too much memory to work. Is there anything I can do to find whatever infected my computer and fix it? Hey guys, I just got a new Sony VAIO NS Series yesterday and I think it is satisfactory so far EXCEPT for the fact that the web pages load so slowly. For example, the pages on this website requires that I press refresh or press "enter" on the web address bar a few times for the page to load. How can this be? This computer is new! Could it just be the internet coincidentially being slow? Is it the computer's problem and should I be concerned? Thanks!

My computer can be found here along with the specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9370165&type=product&id=1218093001336

Error 1067 - for various processes - Audio not working
hi, I originally posted this problem with no response so far. the problem has gotten worse since my post.

I am not sure what happened to my computer. I was surfing the net, clicked on something, then strange stuff started happening. First I tried to watch a movie and all of a sudden there was no sound. I tried to listed to a song in iTunes and had an error that there is a problem with my computer's audio/video settings configuration and the playback may not work properly. when I go to settings/admin tools/services and try to start windows audio - I get the error "Could not start the windows audio service on local computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly". Plug and play is started and seems to work. I get the same error for a few other services, eg, restore backup.

I tried to do a restore backup, but I consistently get an error that restore backup is not able to protect my computer and I must restart. Restarting does not help.

the start/task bar changed from the XP mode to the windows classic mode with a larger font, items from taskbar dissapeared.

I have AVG as my anti virus and it was clean (only a few cookies that it removed). Malwarebytes and Spybot; anti malware does not open for some reason - both installed but neither would open.

chkdsk.exe (in read only mode) came back clean the first time. the only thing it said "Warning! F parameter not specified" at the very top. ... Read more

Hello!! This seems to be the best place to find out some answers! A few weeks ago, I had a nasty virus on my computer. Luckily I had internet on my phone and was able to look up how to remove the virus and thought the problem was taken care of. Over the last week or so my computer has slowed to turtle speed, when I click on any program to open it, I can walk away and do something else for 10 mins or so as that is how long it takes to open. I have run MalwareBytes as well as my Antivirus program(norton security suite) and they have found nothing. Granted I have only been able to do a quick scan for av, I tried a full scan and it took 6 days to go through 170,000+ files and wasn't even close to done. So I'm not sure if the virus wasn't fully removed, as I thought, or if this is a ripple effect from having a virus.

And now, upon restarting my computer this morning, it told me that it found new hardware, unknown, that needed to be installed. One of my drivers just disappeared it seems. I'm not sure how, why or what caused this but is there a way to fix it?

OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3, 32 bit

Hello BC!

I use a Samsung np370r4e. It is a few years old and is a hand me down from an older relative. When I first received it, it was very slow so I took it to a local computer shop to add in 2GB of RAM (which added up to 4GB) and to clean it up. Apart from sometimes getting hot after a few hours of usage, it has ran very well over the last couple of months.

Two days ago, I used the native Samsung SW Update to run a few updates. I let it run overnight. The next morning, I noticed that my laptop was extremely slow. The boot up and shut down times were (as they usually are) very quick but using Chrome or anything else on the laptop would cause it to frequently lag or hang for about roughly 10 seconds. Chrome (being that which I use the most often) would often freeze or crash.

I checked the RAM and 4GB was detected. After suspecting that the update may have something to do with it, I tried using system restore. The first time I did it, my laptop battery died halfway and I had to do it again. The second attempt was successful.

However, even as I type this, the same symptoms are occurring and they are getting exponentially worse. The hangs and freezes are getting more recurrent. Also, my computer blacked out for about 10 seconds before coming back. Even writing this is a challenge, as my computer keeps hanging.

A gut feeling is telling me to back up my hard drive, just in case, and that's what I'm going to do after I post this.

Hi there.

It seems clear that the update did not have a positive effect on the laptop and it is causing the instability.

Have you tried to revert those updates, or rather, are you able to do so, since it is difficult for you to work with the laptop?

My computer has lock-ups every so often where I will have to manually re-boot.  Lately, in the past week or so I've noticed that when I boot my computer it works very hard (i can hear it working) but it takes 7-10 minutes until I can open and programs, internet, etc.   My desktop boots normal very quickly, I just can't access anything until the computer (works hard) for the 7-10 minutes.. then it seems to slow down or (catch up finally) and I can access stuff.    When I do have a computer freeze.. (few times a week) sometimes It will just freeze and sometimes it will freeze and a contant beep will sound.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

first off, here are my specsAMD Athlon 64 X2 5200M2N-e Asus motherboard2 gigs (1gig x2) Corsair dual channel ramNvidia Geforce 7900 GS 256mb PCI-EWhen I first built my computer and loaded windows, it worked super fast. Now, its slower then my older computer, which I thought was impossible. I mean...This is pathetic. I unistalled AVG cause there was a process running that is supposed to be a Trojan, and a program said AVG was running it. So, I deleted it, was prompted to restart, so I did. It took literally 10 minutes to shut down and restart. At worst, my old computer took 5 minutes. (P4 2.8, 1.5 gigs ram, ATI Radeon 9800). So, how do I fix this? I have a theory its Microsoft forcing people to upgrade by putting out crappy updates. I mean, for my card, the newest driver is dated the beginning of last year...They come out with a new one but its Vista only. Woo...idiots. So basically it started about 3 days ago, aprox. 4 days after this computer was built. I was playing Battlefield 1942, it froze. I tried 5 times, it froze in different spots at different times. I reinstalled. Same thing. Oblivion goes for about 30 minutes then crashes to the desktop. I then hit the window to maximize again, and it freezes. This has happened everytime as well. I also did older games, same thing, but done differently. Battlefield was the only one that froze the entire computer to where i had to manually shut it off. Then today I randomly check my processes, and theres 2 runn... Read more

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

Hello. My computer is running very slowly lately. I had it on before college and checked facebook then shut it down It was running perfectly before I turned it off. When I turned it back on a few hours later, it took about 3 minutes to load up and another 2-ish minutes for all the icons to show up. Also, all the sounds that play studder. Its like youtube videos that aren't loaded all the way. This happens even if they are played through window's media player and not the internet. I have scanned it with Microsoft Security Essentials, it says its clean, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, it found one broken file and deleted it, ESET online scanner, which said my computer was clean, and finally I scanned it with Trend Micro Housecall, it was also clean. Other than an unknown virus that wasn't detected, I have no idea what could be slowing down my computer. Is there anything I can try to get my computer back up to speed? PLEASE HELP!!!

A:Computer is super duper slow. Like really this is my 2nd business computer.

There are lots of reasons this can happen.  The first step is to localize the issue, but with this being a business computer, you should really have your IT admin fix it... as an IT admin myself, I hate it when people try to implement their own fixes because then I have to fix whatever they broke, plus the original issue. Hey guys,
As of two weeks ago my computer's running speed decreased dramatically. It takes approx. 30 seconds to open up windows task manager. Also, a few gaming applications now crash on start up, such as Warcraft III and Dota 2 and with numerous applications freezing.

I've run virus scans on Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy with no hits. I'm very tempted to do a system restore but I'd really rather avoid this. Could you help me guys?

Thanks in advance.

A:Computer Extremely Slow - Applications Crashing Computer

You've got multiple antivirus programs installed and running in that computer.

That in itself will bog down a computer because they're fighting each other.

I suggest that you get rid of everything that's associated with Lavasoft Ad-Aware and AVG.

Also get rid of Spybot - Search & Destroy and replace it with SUPERAntiSpyware 5.0.0.1150.

SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware(which you already have) work well together in combating malware, spyware, rogues, hijackers, etc..

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer! I am Elle and I will be helping you out with your problem. Firstly, you should know that we are working with specific tools which are used to identify the possible threats present on your system so I will analyze the results they produce. As a start we need to have some more up-to-date logs than the ones you have already provided. The current state of the files on your system might have changed so we need to get a clear look on that aspect. DO NOT bring any changes to the system except the ones I tell you to as that may produce more damage than helping us. If you will encounter a delay of over 2 days from me, please don't hesitate and private message me (link in the signature). Do not forget to check your topic periodically and subscribe to it so that you can receive notifications regarding my replies. Please generate another DDS log (download it from here if you haven't already) and post it in your next reply along with other changes that may have occured since you last posted. Also download and run GMER from this link: GMER download link.Thank you very much for your patience. Hi there
Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)

I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (W8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".

View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on W8 Computer

View from W8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but W8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't help at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of help ever.

I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.

Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.

I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.

Screenshots enc.

(Windows Networking Grrrhhhhhh! -- I'm not particularly technical with this stuff but any time I've used Networking with Linux it works STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX and there's no problem sharing from or to windows. !... Read more

A:W2K3 Server can access W8 W8 computer cant see W2K server

Assuming this Windows 8 Enterprise machine isn't locked down with Group Policy.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

There are two separate settings for disabling the 128 bit encryption.
