I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I also have this problem- when waking the computer from sleep, the Wi-Fi is disabled and can NOT be enabled without restarting the computer. It says that the device is switched off via hardware button. The wired connection works, but it's frustrating having to restart every time I want to use Wi-Fi.

Hi  I bought a Lenovo G500 around a month ago (Windows 8.1, Intel Core i7 2.20 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Disk, Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter).  I have a problem related to wifi connectivity. When i'm at home, no problems with networking. But when i'm at the college, where network is public and realized with a proxy, my lenovo sees the network, but can't connect to internet because the network is "unidentified" and i have a "limited access". My other PC and my HTC One continue to work fine with the routers and access points placed in the college. I tried everything: reinstall wireless drivers, reset winsocks and ip, disable Windows and Comodo firewalls, disable the energy options of the network adapter... but nothing seems to change, and every time i have the same problem: nothing fixes the issue. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful! Thanks

hi marcello33,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try this,

StepA.
Open Device Manager and check under Network Adapters,
Remember what brand you wireless is ex. Intel, Realtek, or Atheros
right click on it and click Uninstall.
Place a check on the Prompt that says Delete Driver Software for this device.
Now click the View option at the top of Device Manager and select Scan for driver changes.
Open Network adapters again right click and click uninstall driver
Now
On the same prompt for deleting the driver check if there is a check box still.

If yes Repeat the step until you don't see the checkbox anymore. then proceed to Step B.
If no Proceed to Step B,

Step B.
    Restart the computer.

Download and Install the driver below for what wireless you have
 Intel WLAN Driver
 WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek)

Restart the computer after installation and Reconnect to the wifi you're having issues with.

Let me know your findings

Lenovo G500 - BIOS stopped detecting DVD-RAM Drive
In fact DVD Drive has worked properly about 10 months and now disappeared from BIOS. DVD is also not visible in Device Manager.

DVD Drive is integrated in laptop. When I push the DVD?s button, LED indicator flashes and tray ejects. When I place a CD and close the tray, the LED indicator starts blinking and a noise of rotating can be heard. After several seconds the blinking stops first and noise after that.

My question is if there is any way to check whether the DVD Drive is really broken and needs replacement or something in my BIOS settings is wrong?

The BIOS was recently updated to the newest version available in Lenovo Support. That caused no problems with DVD Drive and it worked normally.

A week ago I updated successfully Windows 7 Professional x86 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 via Windows Anytime Upgrade (not using DVD). After that I haven?t use the DVD drive until today. I am not sure if it is possible that Window upgrade to cause DVD Drive to disappear from BIOS.

Computer is Lenovo G500, Product: 20236, Serial: xxxxx, BIOS: 78CN23WW(V2.03)

Any advice will be much appreciated.

A:Lenovo G500 - BIOS stopped detecting DVD-RAM Drive

hi Mavros,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

AFAIK, if the DVD drive is not detected in the BIOS then it's likely that the device is malfunctioning / failing (the mechanical parts that turns ON the drive and spins the disc maybe operational but the circuit board that stores the firmware maybe faulty)

More info:
ODD Mechanical Parts

What you can try is to boot into the BIOS, press F9 to load factory settings (this resets the hardware components connected to the machine) and press F10 to save and exit.

If resetting the BIOS to factory settings doesn't work, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may need to get a replacement DVD drive.

I've had a problem with WiFi since a Microsoft Windows 10 update on Oct 11th, after the install of the updates the internal AR9485 adapter would not work, everything pointed to the driver.  I cannot find an update for the driver for Windows 10, the Windows 10 Version 1607 troubleshooter says I'm using the latest and most up to date version. Out of frustration I bought a Netgear USB wireless adapter, WNDA3100V3 (N600) Installed it using the Netgear Genie and it worked fine. However, I got a surprise when I removed the device and found that my WiFi was still working fine via the installed AR9485 in my laptop!!! It appears that the Netgear Genie turns on the WiFi function and the installed driver for the 9485 works as it should. Yesterday, there were three Windows 10 updates, I installed them using Ethernet cable rather than WiFi. After the install and restart required, once again the AR9485 adapter would not work. As soon as I installed the Netgear Genie it started to work just fine. Right now I'm using the AR9485 WiFi connection without a problem, I can shut down and power up and still the AR9485 works fine. Anyone have an answer to what is happening here, and what can I do to get the AR9485 to work as it should. Thanks Ken Miller

Hi Saif,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
Now access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.

Hello, I bought a new Lenovo G500 a month ago (14-02-2014).It has an intel i5 3230M @ 2.6 GHz CPU and an Intel HD Grafics 4000. The problem that I am having is overheating and I notice 1 week ago, when I was playing a game .I was playing Asphalt 8: Airborne for a while and notice that the fan wasn't working. That was weird to me because when I play the game it always starts the fan. I went to check the CPU temp and to my surprise the core 0 was at 105ºC !!! and the core 1 was at 100ºC!!!  And yes the pc was very hot when I put my hand near the fan. I also put my nose near to the fan and it smell like burnt plastic (and almost burn my nose). So to cool it down I went to the energy management and started the dust remover (not to remove dust, but only to get that fan spinning). The fan work and the temp dropped about 30ºC I let it cooled to 60ºC then started the game again the fan didn't started and the CPU cores where at 90ºC. So I let the pc idle to cool it down and the temp never went under 60ºC, when it should be around 35-40ºC idle.Resart the pc and played the game and the fan was working normal and the temp didn't exceed 60ºC when playing. Then when idle it was around 35-40ºC. This week it happened again. The fan didn't started while playing the game and the CPU cores temp was very high. Restarted the pc and it was back to normal. Dose any one know what could be the problem? Since it is brand new (near 1 month) I don't think... Read more

If I'm not Mistaken you want to boot the system to your Installation Media, right?

First you can try the hitting F12 when you press the power to turn it ON.
If your Lucky the BIOS is already configured and hitting F12 should give you the Boot menu and will let you choose to boot from CD/DVD, HDD or USB.

If hitting F12 did not give you Boot Menu Option,
Turn the system ON and start hitting F2, Now This will Let you Boot into the BIOS and will give you option to change the Boot sequence,

Hope this info helps,

Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW or a newer version of the BIOS will be made available". Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW version of the BIOS will be made available again????????So I downgraded my BIOS CDCN35WW to BIOS CDCN30WW, and after that I installed again BIOS CDCN35WW - everything went well, but now my BIOS shows it is CDCN30WW version??? I would be very grateful for any help, thanks in advance.

I think you may have concern in this thread,
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G580-Bios-update-problem/m-p/1199186/highlight...

Here the suggested solution from neokenchi that helped.

1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup

2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.

3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

The first thing I look at if a machine hangs at startup is the USB ports.  Physical damage can create shorts which cause these symptoms.  Check for bent pins or a tongue broken off.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

I own a lenovo g500 which currently uses 6gb of 1600mhz ddr3 ram, one 4gb and one 2gb stickI was planning to upgrade the ram to 8gb by replacing the 2gb stick with a 4gb ddr3l stick. But when I replaced it the laptop wouldn't boot up. My research showed that the 4gb ddr3l stick should work but it didn't.All the ram sticks are from the same company so I don't think its a problem with the ram.

Hi,I have a Lenovo G500 (59370250) laptop with Intel Pentium CPU B960 @ 2.20GHz processor. The machine is OK with few simple applications but starts hanging with heavier applications like Google Chrome, MSWord, etc.I tried having a total of 4GB RAM but that is not helping either. The CPU shoots upto 100% and the machine does not respond for several minutes. Will it be possible to upgrade the motherboard or processor to i3 or i5 in this one? ThanksSukhjinder(Bangalore, India)

A:Lenovo g500 motherboard

Hi keshavshiyal,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may use your serial number here on the parts look up page to get your OEM motherboard part number.
Using the part number to order or search online from other resellers in your location would help.

You can also call in  1-800-3000-9991 or to check here on where to buy as option.

Here is your hardware manual for reference as it includes FRU list to match the part number with the disassembly guide.

Additional reference article for review:
How to lookup and purchase Accessories, Upgrades, and FRU/CRU Replacement PartsHow do I order parts or find parts information?

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

I am using Windows 7 , 32 bit. I noticed that on each update of Windows 7 , the sound disappears (and no, its not muted, and no Bluetooth device  ...).The "no sound" can be observed in the following:- No Windows sound when login/logout of windows.- No sound when playing from Internet (Youtube)- When I try to play a file using windows media player, I get the message "windows media player encountered a problem while playing the file". The file is good and played o.k before the update.I am using the latest Conexant driver and all seems to be o.k. In the device manager. To overcome this , I need to reinstall the Conexant driver after each update, which is not acceptable (never had to mess around in any of the previous laptops I had).Any suggestions ?

hi Lior11,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can do this to exclude device driver from Windows Updates

Open a run box (Windows key + R)
Type in sysdm.cpl   hit enter
Then click on Advanced System Settings

You should have a windows with Tabs / Go to Hardware TAB and click on Device Installation settings

Now click on "No let me choose what to do"
Never Install driver software from Windows Update then save changes.

Hope this helps
Cheers!
