More Old Computer Help Please!

Q: More Old Computer Help Please!

So I am back, after I made my post that asked to help identify a computer, which turned out to be the IBM personal system 2 model 25. BUT NOW, i need help with the parts. We found out that the hard drive on the computer is busted, but we need to know the size. So i was wondering if somebody on this website could tell me all the types of measurements that the computer is compatible with. Please and thank you in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,I really need some help! My computer had a virus that made the fake Windows XP antivirus popup appear where they want you to download the bogus antispyware program, and the desktop background changed to blue with a message that read " WARNING! Spyware detected on your computer. Please install an antispyware...." Blah, Blah Blah! And it would act like it was restarting and go to a blue screen, but if I pressed F8 it would go back. So I followed some steps I had read on here from other people, and that part of it is gone. I am now able to change my desktop background. Now the problem is that every time I try to go on to the internet, Google or whatever other search engine I use will come up, but then when you try to go to another site, it just says " Loading, internet browser redirecting." And I get redirected to another site, usally ADT (weird) or another antispyware site which I believe is just part of the virus. Also, the computer will freeze up completely to where I can't do ANYTHING. Even CTRL+ALT+Delete doesn't work. So we end up just unplugging it (I know that is probably REALLY bad!) I downloaded spybot S&D from my other computer and put it on the bad one, and it did find a couple things and I deleted them, but it didn't help. So I got hijackthis from my other computer also and dowloaded it to the messed up one and obtained my log. I had to do this in safe mode and allow networking to even get my computer to keep running, so... Read more

Hello there,

I have an eight year old Gateway computer. It is just a regular, single home desktop. It has Windows XP Home Edition, 1.25 GB of RAM (originally had 256MB of RAM and I added two sticks of 512MB of RAM). I updated my computer to Service Pack 2 using Microsoft's Windows Update. My internet speed is about 6 - 8 MB's per second (cable).

Here is my problem: When I do not use my computer, it automatically starts to load like crazy. All I hear is the churning inside my PC's tower, but nothing comes up on the screen. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, the churning goes away. Also, when it churns, I see the hour glass next to the arrow on the screen. This happens once in a while, but it is suspicious. My computer hasn't been running like it used to, so I'm concerned if there are any viruses/trojans/malware/spyware deep inside my computer that are hiding from my numerous virus/spyware scans.

Also, when this problem started, I noticed that my Internet Explorer 7 has been scrolling up and down choppy on a lot of websites. Right now, if I scroll up and down this message body where I am typing this message, it will be sluggish. But, if I scroll Tech Support's website, it is not sluggish. Even when I highlight this text, it is sluggish to highlight. Websites like -- YouTube -- forget it. Very slow and I can't even play YouTube's HD videos as they are very choppy.

I would like to know from the experts if there is anything suspicious on my computer that shou... Read more

My computer, early in boot-up, freezes up randomly, mostly when firefox is used for more than 5 minutes (sometimes even before firefox shows up), and in some boots, Vista won't even open anything, then later freezes,Theres pretty much a 1/50 of a working boot up, but I've been trying since about 3:00 AM EST (posted this at 1:28 PM EST) today after it eventually froze up from printing from Acrobat Reader, with no luck (and even one boot, didn't even show the Compaq splash screen), previously, on working boots, I've done virus scans with Malware Bytes' Pro, with no results, never (this computer only got a virus once).I'm forced to boot in safe mode for the computer to work, im afraid its some sort of virus thats unknown by Malware Bytes', so im posting a HiJack This log (later, when i try to run normal mode again) with my DxDiag (please note, my brother installed a facemoods.com thing on this computer, since i think its spyware, i deleted all the traces of it i spotted). I'm using a unmodified Presario CQ50 209WM on the lastest version of Vista, which had already had one reinstall after getting hacked while a relative was using it.Please hurry i just rented a 3 Day Elite weapon in Battlefield Play4Free yesterday which set me back over 100 games worth of getting credits for.

A:Computer freezes up randomly, mostly when using firefox, some boots, computer refuses to open up programs

First of all, MalwareBytes is not an anti virus app. Do you have an av installed? If so, have you run a full scan with that? If not, and since you think it's malware related, you should probably post in the Am I Infected forum.

My computer was lagging and wasn't connecting to the internet properly, and then it froze so I shut it down. When I started it back up, the BIOS loaded but then went to a blank black screen with a mouse. I can move the mouse around. It won't load any further. I've tried all the safe modes and it does the same thing. And I tried cleaning all the dust off the computer. I've tried waiting at that screen for longer than 3 hours. It just stays there.

It's possible that it's a virus but I don't know. How can I solve this problem? Because I can't get into the computer to do a system restore. Please help, thank you!

Right now I am using Set-ItemProperty to edit the registry values for these policies, but I wanted to
know if there is an easier way, such as exporting a completed Administrative Template and importing it onto the new machine (as local policies is able to be done).

Hello to everyone on bleepingcomputers.com,

First off, I would like to apologize in advance if I've posted in the wrong forum..I would also like to mention that my computer skills/knowledge are average at best..So, I apologize for making things more complicated for everyone.

I will try to describe my situation as brief and accurate as possible..I recently had my computer infected by a terrible Trojan Virus (Trojan.Agent/Gen-Cryptic)..I had help from someone, to remove the Trojan from my computer..They guided me through certain steps like MBR Check, DDS, Rootkit Unhooker, ComboFix, OTL, etc..After guiding me through all the necessary steps, my computer was declared clean..Unfortunately after the clean, my computer wasn't performing properly..It was extremely slow/sluggish, when opening apps and connecting to the internet..I also had Windows Firewall shutting OFF, from time to time..I was then told at this point, to do a fresh install of Windows XP..Which brings me to my current problem..I've performed a fresh install twice, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why my computer feels like it's still infected..After the first fresh install of Windows XP I ran a scan with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware and it found:

Svchost.exe Extreme Memory Usage Crashes Computer When Computer Idle
I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when the computer is idle and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted several times a day to clear the memory back down. However sometimes when I restart the computer within an hour or a couple of hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted again.

One special note is that since my Windows 7 OS was preinstalled on my HP computer, I do not have access to the original Windows DVD and the DVD drive on my computer is currently broken and is unable to be used.

I downloaded the TSG SysInfo tool and the FRST tool with the following results.

I was able to download the FRST tool and I have the following results, so hopefully this will help someone to be able to help me with this problem it seems to be getting worse as time goes on eating up memory.

I'm baffled here. I had my network between my new vista machine (\\MAINCOMPUTER) and my xp laptop (\\JIMSLAPTOP) set up perfectly (transfered old files from xp computer to vista without problems) until yesterday when I was trying to add music files to windows media palyer on my xp machine that are stored on my vista machine. It is wireless network with the vista machine connected via ethernet and xp machine wirelessly.

It was working fine at first- searching for and adding all of the files that it should have. I left the room for a bit while the 13,000+ songs were being added and when I came back it was frozen. I canceled out of it and then tried to access the files that were added but it could not find them. I then tried to access the folder through the network and My Network Places crashed. I restarted, tried again... same... crashed.

I can see the xp laptop no problem on my vista network map, can access any of the xp files, and can ping using IP and name both ways- from vista to xp and from xp to vista. XP just won't find \\maincomputer now in My Network Places- error message says: "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Network name is no longer available."

Hi!

I posted this in other tech support forums, nobody seems to be able to help me there. Decided to try out this forum.

All of the info is here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/computer-randomly-shut-off-now-sound-doesnt-work-1028785.html#post6563153

To sum it up, my laptop randomly shut off one day (as if the battery was removed) and the sound stopped working when I started it back up. Someone said it overheated. The fan was faulty (worked... kinda), so I thought that might have been true, got it replaced. Computer shut off again in the same way about a week and a half or so later, but was only warm to the touch -- it's been much warmer before without shutting off.

Anyways since it shut off the first time, the sound stopped working, and the drivers for it have had yellow flags and the following message: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Any attempt to delete and re-install the drivers has been unsuccessful so far.

Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

A:Computer Randomly Shut Off, Now Computer Can't Bleep (Sound Doesn't Work)

Faulty fan...shutoffs from overheating...my personal opinion is that the system could have resulted in motherboard damage.

Hey TSF,

I was performing a system restore earlier when, while the process was occurring, I accidentally knocked the power out to my computer. Now when I turn on my computer it goes to the boot screen where I can choose a normal start up or a safe mode start up. Neither work as when I start it up, it just seems to get stuck at the green loading bar screen.

I also have the option to boot from my recovery disc. But after the "Loading Windows files" screen it goes to a black screen and nothing happens. I'm freaking out because I do a lot of work at my computer and can't get it to work (on my brother's computer at the moment). I also don't want to lose any important files on the computer. What can I do?

I have Vista Home Premium on SP2

The problem isn't the hard drive, it's that you are still infected.

Hi there, please run Combofix:Please download Combofix (by sUBs) and save it to your Desktop.Disable the realtime-protection of your antivirus and anti-malware programs because they might interfere with the scan.Start Combofix.exe and follow its instructions.Do not use the computer while the scan is running. This may cause the program to stall. When finished, a log file will be displayed (that can also be found at C:\Combofix.txt).Please copy and paste the contents of this file into your next post.Note: If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." after the scan, just restart the computer.(You can find more detailed instructions in this guide on using Combofix.)

I've let my family use this computer for awhile, they started to complain it was "acting weird." When I jumped on to see, I noticed it was shutting down by itself and extremely slow. I got the computer to start up and tried to do a couple system restores. I then noticed then that the date/time on the computer was off. Saying some of the restore points were back in 2006, when I didn't even have this computer. After a couple failed attempts, I got the computer to restore. Its not randomly shutting off anymore but is still slower than it should be. I reseted the date and time, but I'm still worried something could be wrong. This computer has had a Root Kit, and a MBR infection before.I've run disk clean up, Spybot, AVG and CC cleaner. My computer is behaving strangely there are no noticed performance changes but if i press "Ctrl + R-Alt" then my computer beeps and wont allow delete to work. I had to take out the L-Alt Key because if i press it my computer turns off and then when i turn it back on (with the power button on the case) its as if it where never turned off, it just goes straight to the login screen. Another strange thing is that if the Ctrl Key is held down for a few seconds the "e -key" gives a ? instead of E and when this "Euro-Mode" is active the arrow keys dont work. This problem is anoying, i can still open task manager through "start -> run -> taskmgr" The computer only beeps when i press ctrl+alt no other 2 keys make my comp beep.I hope someone can help me, I've already tried using avg spybot, Ad-aware and various other proggies but the problem perisists.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 12:41:04 PM, on 24/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files ... Went though steps to clean my computer of a Trojan today. ESET scan came back clear. Then I took the advice and began downloading programs to protect myself when I downloaded COMODO free firewall, it did a scan for Malware and found 5 files that were a threat.

One containing the the words 'combofix' and another 'win32' which initially in my alert from windows security center saying 'Win32.Backdoor.DNM'. I chose to remove these files and my computer and restart for the firewall to install and changes to be made. When my computer rebooted I had a message from the firewall saying 'svchost.exe' is trying to connect to the internet, which was also one of the virus's that were ment to be removed when I ran Combofix.

My other thread was closed as I thought my troubles were over. Help would again be much appreciated.

A:Cleaned my computer with staff help today. Scan still found virus on my computer.

Check your PM inbox. Personally, I don't care for Comodo, and the only firewall I use is my router's hardware firewall and Windows XP's. Too many people don't know how to respond to the notifications from firewalls. I don't care for Comodo's detections, and it's overly intrusive.

If you installed this before you uninstalled ComboFix, that would explain why you were getting some hits from Comodo. It incorrectly sees parts of ComboFix as a threat. Also, there might be some quarantined files left behind if you installed this before uninstalling ComboFix.

Regarding svchost.exe, as long as it's in system32, that's fine

I see no active infection.

Initially I had noticed that something was up as it started locking up randomly; ran a scan using Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition and it found the machine to be infected with WIN32.TROJANDOWNLOADER.AGENT. So it cleaned it up and... the machine started acting even crazier. A bunch of application profiles (like for Firefox) became corrupt, dragging files from one folder to another did not work (but copy/pasting them did; what the heck), my graphics drivers went haywire, the system refused to download any files (per some security policy) and then Windows found that the registry was amazingly corrupt. Most of these issues have been addressed in one form or another (turns out a fair number of system DLLs were not properly registered); is this just an instance of the cure being worse than the disease? Or did I not get everything cleaned up?One thing that caught my attention is that file indexing was apparently turned on; I know I disabled that for performance reasons when I first set this machine up.I have since run both Bitdefender Online Scanner and TrendMicro Sysclean and they both came up clean. If you're looking in the attached log there is one file that comes up as gibberish (comes up as 3D??????); that is just a Japanese program where the name got mangled in the scanning program.DDS (Ver_09-03-16.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Duppy at 14:20:30.25 on Thu 04/23/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_13============== Running Processes ============================= Pse... Hello, punkopunx
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

For the past week my computer has been acting odd. Here is what happens

1. Sometimes when i turn on the CPU, the light will either turn blue, flash blue, or wont be on at all. When this happens ( no matter what the light does ), I can hear the fans/drives, and my monitor goes on, but there is nothing on the screen. I usually fix this by turning off my power strip, and then turning it back on or hold the power button on my CPU.

2. When i reboot, my computer doesn't fully shut down. Windows Logs off, and I am left with a blank monitor, with my CPU still on ( if I just turnoff the power button and then back on it stays the same, CPU on, nothing on screen.

3. When my computer goes into sleep mode, pressing keys/moving or clicking the mouse doesn't "wake it up".

I am using Windows XP Media Center SP2

Can someone help me?

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is

A:[SOLVED] Can't open My Computer/Documents/Control Panel -computer crashes

Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click =>... Read more

I have a HP Pavillion dv9417ca Notebook PC with AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology Tl-56, 2.0G Ram, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2.

The computer when running slowly makes a ton of noise starting up and running and tends to use more processing. The computer sometimes makes weird noises that aren't normal windows sounds and come from error's. Like intense beeping noises ocassionally. Firefox especially is insanely slow and the longer I run it the more processing power it uses up along with the plugins.exe. Sometimes it will uses so much that it completely freezes my computer. Lately I've also been having trouble starting the computer where it won't even load windows.

I've ran Ccleaner daily and Malwarebytes weekly and find nothing and the problem has been getting progressively worse. I have Avast which updates daily.

Hi there, earlier today i was working on some video footage. I had went downstairs for an hour i came up and i had all these anti virus pop ups flashing all over my screen. i dont know how they got on there as i scan my computer every 2 days. The only possible reason i can think of is visiting The Pirate Bay.org. I tried opening task manager but the software keeps closing it. No matter what i tried the software would tell my system not to open it. I tried restarting the computer but when it gets onto the windows loading screen it flashes a blue screen then resets and this continually happens. I tried safe mode and last safe config, it still happens.

Some of the malware i saw:

Anti Malware doctor
Security suite
and some more.

I cannot use my DVD drive as it doesnt work so my only option is to do some via USB stick.. Is there any other way? please help.

How can i fix this without having to use a DVD drive and formatting / recovery console?

Thanks.

Need this help urgently.

There are no malware symptoms that I can see, but I did find it very strange that MBAM scans were set to skip everything other than memory. So if you did a quick scan or full scan, it would scan like 400 files and say it was done. I figured out how to turn the rest of the scan back on in the settings and a full scan or quick scan didn't find anything.

Thanks.

I've just changed from Outlook 2003 on my old (XP) machine,to Window Live on my new (Win7) computer.I'm struggling to import the saved e-mails and calendar. The .CSV file method worked for the contacts folder, but not for any thing else. I  do have the  .pst  Outlook back-up file on the new computer, but Live Mail Doesn't want to know!
So-how do I do it?
The Windows Communiy seems not to know either!
And before anybody asks-I've got Thunderbird installed, but it doesn't agree with Virgin e-mail.

A:Outlook 2003(old computer) to Windows Live Mail( new computer)

Looks like nobody's got any ideas! I've downloaded the free trial of Office 2013, and this has picked up the .pst back up file, and shows the e-mails etc.But-even if Micros**t say it is possible I have yet to find a way to get the files into Windows Live.
Conspiracy theory says it's a plot to make us all buy Office!!!

Hello BC!

I use a Samsung np370r4e. It is a few years old and is a hand me down from an older relative. When I first received it, it was very slow so I took it to a local computer shop to add in 2GB of RAM (which added up to 4GB) and to clean it up. Apart from sometimes getting hot after a few hours of usage, it has ran very well over the last couple of months.

Two days ago, I used the native Samsung SW Update to run a few updates. I let it run overnight. The next morning, I noticed that my laptop was extremely slow. The boot up and shut down times were (as they usually are) very quick but using Chrome or anything else on the laptop would cause it to frequently lag or hang for about roughly 10 seconds. Chrome (being that which I use the most often) would often freeze or crash.

I checked the RAM and 4GB was detected. After suspecting that the update may have something to do with it, I tried using system restore. The first time I did it, my laptop battery died halfway and I had to do it again. The second attempt was successful.

However, even as I type this, the same symptoms are occurring and they are getting exponentially worse. The hangs and freezes are getting more recurrent. Also, my computer blacked out for about 10 seconds before coming back. Even writing this is a challenge, as my computer keeps hanging.

A gut feeling is telling me to back up my hard drive, just in case, and that's what I'm going to do after I post this.

A:Updated computer using Samsung SW Update and computer became unbelievably slow

Hi there.

It seems clear that the update did not have a positive effect on the laptop and it is causing the instability.

Have you tried to revert those updates, or rather, are you able to do so, since it is difficult for you to work with the laptop?

Hi, I have a problem with windows XP. Everytime I turn off my computer by clicking on "turn off computer," I receive an error message popup that states "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed." After that pop-up message, the computer freezes for about a minute and goes back to its normal format (desktop) and the computer DOES NOT TURN OFF.

How do I turn off my computer without unplugging the computer? I try "ctrl+alt+del" to go to the windows task manager to "shut down" the computer but..the computer restarts again and doesnt turn off. Do I have a virus or a windows explorer problem? and how do i fix it? thank you

I hope this is the right forum, I appologise if it's not and would welcome any suggestions about where else I might look for help.

I'll start by quoting my OP from another forum:

So I just picked up a new SATA hard drive and installed it in my computer. To do so I shut down my machine, unplugged everything, plugged the 2nd HDD into the power supply and motherboard leaving the original HDD as is, replugged everything, and switched on my machine. Then at startup it became unresponsive. The screen just has the big Dell logo, "Dell DXP051 Series", and down the bottom a status bar paused at 'BIOS Revision A07'. I can't enter BIOS settings or anything like that.

So after nothing happened for a few minutes I switched the computer off, opened it up, and unplugged the new HDD from the motherboard, power up again, and the machine just goes straight to the same page. Repeat the process plugging the new HDD in place of the old one and the exact same thing happens.

FWIW, I'm 90% sure the startup process usually has a screen or two before the one I'm stuck at, but when I switch on my machine it just goes straight to it, so there's no option to enter BIOS settings or anything like that. Also, on the front panel of my computer there are two backlit lights on '1' and '4'. I have no idea what they are, I'd never noticed them before. '2' and '3' light up and alternate when I first power on, but ... Read more

Hello!! This seems to be the best place to find out some answers! A few weeks ago, I had a nasty virus on my computer. Luckily I had internet on my phone and was able to look up how to remove the virus and thought the problem was taken care of. Over the last week or so my computer has slowed to turtle speed, when I click on any program to open it, I can walk away and do something else for 10 mins or so as that is how long it takes to open. I have run MalwareBytes as well as my Antivirus program(norton security suite) and they have found nothing. Granted I have only been able to do a quick scan for av, I tried a full scan and it took 6 days to go through 170,000+ files and wasn't even close to done. So I'm not sure if the virus wasn't fully removed, as I thought, or if this is a ripple effect from having a virus.

And now, upon restarting my computer this morning, it told me that it found new hardware, unknown, that needed to be installed. One of my drivers just disappeared it seems. I'm not sure how, why or what caused this but is there a way to fix it?

My computer has lock-ups every so often where I will have to manually re-boot.  Lately, in the past week or so I've noticed that when I boot my computer it works very hard (i can hear it working) but it takes 7-10 minutes until I can open and programs, internet, etc.   My desktop boots normal very quickly, I just can't access anything until the computer (works hard) for the 7-10 minutes.. then it seems to slow down or (catch up finally) and I can access stuff.    When I do have a computer freeze.. (few times a week) sometimes It will just freeze and sometimes it will freeze and a contant beep will sound.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Recently(about 2 weeks ago), my computer started freezing. It happened 5 times already(one of them occurred as I was typing this post). I wasn't doing anything in particular, just using Firefox to browser the web.

3 of the freezings occurred while I was just browsing, 2 occurred while my computer was starting up. No sites in general either, out of the 3 times I froze, I was on different sites each time(all of them are "known safe ones" too like ign.com, wikipedia, etc).

After the latest freeze(during browsing), I restarted my computer only for my computer to freeze again after 3 seconds(screen stayed the same, it happened right after it showed me my memory test). Then I restarted my computer again and it froze before anything showed up(monitor did not detect anything so the monitor did not show anything).
Here's what I have done so far:

1. I used memtest86 and done 3 full tests, no errors on any tests.

2. Did anti-virus and anti-spyware scan on my computer(I used: Avast, Spybot, Adaware).

3. Checked Windows Event Viewer(unfortunately it didn't log anything).

Here's the last things I did to my computer before I noticed the freezings:
1. I downloaded and installed Secunia PSI.

2. I downloaded and installed the latest version of WinRAR and Quicktime player(recommendations from Secunia).

3. I also installed various security patches from microsoft update.

Besides that, nothing in particular.

Also I noticed when my computer freezes, my ke... Read more

I have someone who is experiencing random connection problems on the clients such as slow or no connections to mapped network shares. Event id 10009 keeps being recorded in the domain controller logs.

DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer MARK-PC.pmc.local using any of the configured protocols.

It has a range of different computer names within the same events. As far as DCOM is configured it's only setup to use TCP-IP.

Server - Windows Server 2008 Standard FE
System type: 64-bit Operating System

Clients:
24 XP Pro
2 Vista Pro
2 Vista Home (should they be using home in an environment like this?)

I have attached the last 256 logs from Application & System as of yesterday evening at around 5pm'ish. I've checked again this morning and looks like the same error has already been re-occurring.

Can anyone give me any suggestion as to where to go with this?

Thanks.

A:Event ID: 10009 DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer <computer name>

Extra Info

Sorry I forgot to also mention that the server is acting as a DHCP server and that there router has had DHCP disabled. Client PC'S are set to local static IP'S and are not actually set to obtain if this has any variance.

Thanks, David

Hello everyone - I am a new member of the forum and hope that someone reading this might be able to help me with a problem I have with my computer.

When I start my computer a blue screen appear on my system and I could not start my computer
An error massage display on screen if you are displays its screen first time then restarts your computer
Some time my computer start and now after restarting my computer will not start

When this happens, I am unable to log off; the computer on/off button does not work when the screen freezes and I have to turn the computer off at the mains.
My computer runs on the Windows XP operating system.

I changed from Internet Explorer browser 6 to 7 yesterday but the problem of the computer screen freezing persists.

Any helpful advice on this would be much appreciated.

A:My computer blue screen errors occur and I can not work on my computer

Hi and welcome,

Has the problem always been apparent or has it just started to happen recently?

After the bluescreen, is it asking you you would like to start in safe mode? If not, repeatidly press F8 as the computer is first started and it will come up with a menu asking you to select a boot mode. Select Safe Mode (no networking, initially).

Does it boot in Safe mode? Come back and let us know.
