Increase the size of "Close, Minimize, Maximize" Buttons?

Q: Increase the size of "Close, Minimize, Maximize" Buttons?

How is this accomplished in W7 please?

Preferred Solution: Increase the size of "Close, Minimize, Maximize" Buttons?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok so I'm using a custom visual style made by another user however I don't really like the buttons used that I mentioned above. The creator states it is acceptable to change the theme to however you like as long as you don't redistribute it anywhere.

Ok so I opened up the .msstyles file (using Restorator) located in the theme folder of this VS. I went into the images directory and located what seems to be the images used for the buttons. Intuitively, it seems like it would make sense to replace those images with different ones (perhaps from another visual style) and it should change them. However, would this actually work? Could the theme get messed up in some other way (like proportions or something if the new button images are smaller)? I don't know of any other way to change them that would be easy.

But I did run into another problem. For some visual styles I can't even locate those buttons in the images directory. Where else would they be?

I was able to adjust (make bigger) the size of these buttons using REGEDIT. It worked for Internet Explorer, Control Panel, and Regedit. Strangely, those settings do not control the MMC buttons in Microsoft Office applications. Does anyone know how to adjust these buttons in Office?

A:How to adjust size of minimize maximize close buttons

Office, since probably at least Office 2000, has always been a testing ground for new UI concepts for Microsoft. Office 2000 introduced a "flat" style that was all the rage for a time, then Office 2007 saw the dawn of the Ribbon UI. Over on the Mac side you saw the formatting pallet, which is sort of like an early predecessor to the Ribbon UI in the v.X and 2004 versions.

So every Office version will require its own set of hacks to do things like you want. Office GUI controls don't necessarily correspond to the Windows GUI controls. That goes double for VBA userforms, which are an offshoot of VB6 controls. The newer ActiveX controls you can use in other parts of Office don't apply to VBA userforms sadly.

Hey, Jake here, AKA Pinesol.

So, last night I got into customising my UI. Like, the general stuff you can do under the customization for Windows 7. I noticed a friend of mine having a different look for his Close, Minimize, and Maximize buttons. Not completely sure if it was cause he was dual booting with Ubuntu and Windows 7. But, all I know is that I would like to change how they look. Making the desktop and everything a little more personal. Umm, but I searched this forum, and google for something that would allow me to edit these buttons and I found nothing. Just stuff for switching which side the buttons were on. Any and all help would be appreciated.

A:Minimize, Maximize & Close buttons not working.

Something like that would be a Beta bug, and it's highly unlikely to get fixed by something we can get at.
About all we can do is test this to see if others are getting the same behavior or not, and either confirm it's a cross-platform bug or something that's a bit more machine specific.

Hello ghostlyogre,
Some system specs would help, but for now try this.
If you are using an NVidia card, disable NView, or use selective disable.
Try reverting to Classic style folders and see if that does it.
Have you used any software to alter your icons or appearance of windows ?, if you have do a system restore to before that point.
Hope one of these nails it for you.
Fill in your specs and post your results, good luck.

I have had recent issues with Firefox 35.01 where often after moving off the home page the Minimize, Maximize, and Close Buttons do not work. However, everything else in the browser does. I usually have to activate the menu bar to close the browser that way. I am nervous about creating a new Firefox profile. The new build, Firefox 36 is slated for next week. This issue, according to the Firefox Mozilla forums goes back to December 2014. See here for reference:

Waiting for new build and did submit feedback to Mozilla. Also, what does "Refresh" Firefox do? This is another option when prompted to start in Safe Mode, (Firefox Safe Mode, NOT Windows Safe Mode.) This issue is on a Windows 7 desktop. No problems with this build on a Windows 8 laptop.

Virtually every application in Windows has always had the capability to press Alt-Space followed by 'X' to Maximize, 'N' to minimize, or 'R' to restore. However IE9 seems to have removed this functionality.
Alt-space does bring up a menu, but those options are not present and have been replaced with:

Menu BarFavorites BarCommand BarStatus BarLock the toolbarsShow tabs on a separate row
For someone like me who is a keyboard shortcut junkie, this is very disconcerting. Is there any way to get this functionality back, or is this going to be one more reason for me to jump ship to Chrome?
Thanks in advance!Thought for the day: Beware of Gods who do not laugh...

A:IE9 "Alt + Space" menu does not have 'minimize', 'maximize', or 'restore'

Firstly, please let us know if the function works properly in other windows, such as Windows Explorer.

If so, please try the following:

1. Please press Windows key + Arrow key to check if it can maximize or minimize your Internet Explorer.

2. Please refer to

Excel 2007 has those 3 icons next to the question mark in a circle but my Word 2007 does not...Word 2007 has the circled question mark but no 3 icons for each document file opened...ugh!

I am not referring to the top ones for the Word program, they are there, but for" Document 1" the blank page, or then any document file you open.

Now every document file I open gets its own window instead of a tabbed window and I strongly prefer the latter.

Then when I close the last remaining document file, the Word program itself automatically closes, which I also hate.

Basically, I want Word 2007 to have and use "minimize, restore & close window" icons like Excel 2007 does for each open document. Not new windows for each.

Maybe I goofed somewhere and made Word this way...

This is really getting obnoxious, and I'm hoping someone here could help me out with this. I recently played a somewhat sketchy older game (serious sam) and during the game if I minimized I'd be unable to minimize or close other programs (or drag them). It was fine while I was playing and would go away upon a restart but now it has decided to stay. They literally freeze there, they still respond but I have to force them to shut by ending the task with the task manager (and then force the task manager itself shut via itself). This isn't to be confused with the "not responding" thing, I can still use them fine but the second I try to close them they just don't do anything but remain responsive. Say I click the X button, it flashes but no response. Right click=window flashes but no menu. Minimize does nothing, the same goes for maximize. All around unresponsiveness, doesn't matter what kind of window it is.

Any ideas?

My first post- Nice to meet you! ^ ^

I've tried searching the NET for info on how to move the Maximize/Minimize/Close buttons to the left- I failed! T_T

I'm left-handed. Previously on Windows 7 I somehow managed( don't ask me how, I can't remember) to move all buttons to the left site without third party software.
Now, I'd like to do the same with the new Windows 8.1. Do you know how I can do this by "raping" my System Files( Windows, system folders, third party apps- hard customization)? I saw an app somewhere, but it requires you to keep it activated( start up)- That's not what I want. I'm looking for a way to change/tweak their position forever! *curious*

I just can't get used to the "new" buttons-on-the-right system- On Windows 7 I had all my buttons on the left site for years!

Thanks in advance for your help! I appreciate your help- insane people with nerdy/geeky/experimental ideas are welcome. xD
See you around. ^_^

Okay, so a week or so ago my computer started having this issue where the close/minimize/maximize buttons stopped working. The contents of the window itself are functional (like, if I am using Firefox I can still open and close tabs, work on the internet, etc.) but trying to close, minimize, maximize, re-size or drag a window doesn't work. It's almost like the window gets frozen and the only way to minimize/maximize/close said window is to open Windows Taskmaster or press the Windows key to open the Start menu. Lately, even the latter is not working - the Taskbar and Start menu become frozen and I am forced to go in through Taskmaster. The problem is not just with Firefox but with any window I have open - Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word, Outlook Express, etc.

Another issue I'm having which I think is related is that I cannot use drop-down boxes properly. I can navigate them using my arrow keys and pressing Enter, but trying to use the mouse causes the menu to disappear.

I thought it was an external mouse issue at first, but even just using the pointing device this problem persists for both the drop-down menu issue and the close/min/max issue. I am not getting any error messages. Virus scans and such tell me there is absolutely nothing wrong with my computer, as does the Windows FixIt. I have already run System Restore and it has also done nothing to alleviate the problem.

I'm really not a technical person so I'm not sure what information you... Read more

I am using Mr.Grims 'HUD' series themes and they all have sounds that run when a windows is maximized, minimized or closed and this has suddenly stopped working. No matter what sound I set to run on these events they are not triggered (As far as I can tell the trigger is the problem). I have removed the themes, run 'sfc /scannow' to revert all changes they have made, I have rolled back and updated my audio drivers, nothing works. I'm not exactly sure when they stopped happening though I think it was sometime today. I have been setting up my computer after getting a new SSD and have installed so many of my programs including most every program from office and would hate to have to redo it all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows Do Not Trigger Thier Sounds (Maximize, Minimize, Close)

1. Do you have sound when playing music or video?
2. Did you go into your Sounds properties to see which sound scheme has been (re)installed, if any?

What does it say there? From what I recall, even the default Windows 7 Sound Scheme did not have default sounds assigned for opening, closing, maximizing or minimizing individual windows.

I typicalliy save a file I am working on and then just click the "X" in the upper right hand corner to exit a document. Should I forget to save, I generally receive a prompt asking if I want to save the document before exiting.

A friend insists that the proper procedure to exit a program is to click File then Close to properly close the program. He demonstrated by clicking the "X" to exit the program. When he double clicked the program icon on his desktop, the program opened to the document he was previously working on. (This doesn't happen with all software programs)His argument? "See it isn't really closed, if someone were to hack my computer via a wireless connection, they could see what I am working on so you should always use File, Close." I said "no problem because the wireless connection is encrypted with a password so someone cruisng WiFI's could access the connection anway."

Are you running in "full-screen" mode, i.e. did you push the middle "square" button (between minimize and close)?

Something strange with FF running full-screen mode, I've also observed on a friend's machine. The Bookmarks Toolbar disappears when running full-screen, at least sometimes on this friend's machine (but not on all machines).

Clicking on the "double-squares" button (to return to "windowed" mode) brings back the Bookmarks Toolbar.

So just go to "windowed" mode, and drag the outer edges of the FF window to almost the edges of the screen. This will keep you in "windowed" mode, but will give you almost the entire screen size just about the same as "full-screen" mode. And your anomalies may disappear.

I am using the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. I am running Windows 7. I have been having a variety of strange problems this morning.
The minimize, maximize, and close buttons are not working on any browser, nor do they work in Thunderbird. To close out of these applications, I must right-click the item's icon on the taskbar and select close. If I am using Firefox, I can right-click on a minimize, maximize, or close button and select Restore, then I can minimize or maximize -- but only if I stay in the tab I am in. If I change tabs or open a new tab, the buttons do not work (unless I select Restore as described above).
Similarly, the buttons will work in Thunderbird if I right-click one and select Restore. Otherwise, they won't.
At the same time, I've noticed that I cannot move any icons around on my desktop. (Auto arrange icons is indeed unchecked.) Also, none of the buttons on YouTube (volume, pause, etc.) are working.
Any ideas? I've tried running Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro and neither detect any problems.

Hello everyone!

Just made the full switch from XP to Win7 and everything is just fine and running well.
However there's one small thing that I don't like.

I use the standard Aero Skin and would like to increase the Min,Max & Close Buttons in the Explorer Window.

There's between the bottom ledge of the buttons and the bottom ledge of the title bar a small gap (See Screen), that i'd like to remove with increasing the size of the buttons.
Already edited the settings in "Window Color and Appearence" but unfortunely it's not completly to my wishes.
I'd like to keep the gap as small as possible.

It's not the design that disturbs me, it's more a practical issue with some Programs that I use that are docked to the top of my screen, while the titlebar is already out of the screen area.
Is there some Way to change that to my likings?

Thanx in advanced for your help.

Sometime over the last few weeks Google's "More" drop-down and its "Search Tools" menu items have quit working in IE10. The other buttons that let you select web, images, shopping, etc. still work properly.

The "More" and "Search Tools" buttons get focus when the mouse is over them and they animate when clicked but nothing happens. I have Google Chrome and Apple's Safari installed and the buttons work properly on these browsers.

I've googled it but most of the posts found are about a not-quite-the-same problem of the buttons just working momentarily. At any rate, I tried the fix [clearing cache and cookies] that some of the posters said worked but it didn't make any difference.

I've disabled all of the ad-ons and the problem is still there. I re-enabled each add-on one at a time and tried it but none of them had any effect.

I've disabled my Norton Security Suite and the problem still exists.

I've reset IE and, other than losing all of my saved passwords, it too made no difference.

I think this might be a useful clue.

I noticed that for all of the buttons that are working, when I pass the mouse pointer over them it displays a URL down in the status bar. However, for the two that are not working nothing is displayed. It appears that the controls associated with these buttons either don't exist or are being blocked.

Does anyone have the solution for this, or at least and idea of what the problem is?

A:Google "More" and "Search Tools" buttons no longer working...

Hello Howard,

you can observe one thing here. All the menu items are just links. But More and Search Tools menu items are different. More is drop down menu and Search Tools also kind of drop down but with sub menu items.

So it seems like there are some script errors with your IE 10 browser.

But i am sorry, re installing IE is the only option i can suggest.
