Preferred Solution: Can't delete desktop Recycle Bin icon?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Use the FileAssassin option on it to delete that file !

I would really like to delete the recycle bin icon on my desktop, as I have it on ObjectDock. I found a way on this page, but then when I clicked the recycle bin in the ObjectDock, nothing would happen. Is there a way to get rid of the icon but still have it accessable?

A:Solved: Deleting the recycle bin icon from desktop?

That registry tweak is for the default icon. You will need to restore the default icon and have ObjectDock relinquish control of the icon for the change to take effect.

Hello everyone,

Whenever any icon on the desktop is (single) clicked, the recycle bin gets highlighted. If you double click, the recycle bin gets opened.

The shutdown menu only allows you to log off, all the other options are not selectable.

This computer is using Windows XP.

I'm sorry I can't really give any more details - it's someone over on the other side of the country who is having this problem and they aren't very computer literate....

Thanks in advance for any help,

helloworld2

A:whatever icon on desktop is clicked, recycle bin is highlighted

You have permissions issues going on. Probably from an infection of some sort. The easiest way to fix it is to create another account and use that one. You'll still be able to get to anything in the my documents folder of your other account, but I wouldn't delete it until you've gotten everything off there you need for sure.

Hi, running Windows XP Home -- all service packs and critical updates current, Internet Browser IE 7 .... Java 5.0 upgrade 10.

Created some split video files using WINrar and it turned out to be like 30 pieces ..... so deleted them into Recycle Bin and emptied bin. They keep returning. Created a new System Restore point and when the screen came back up, I lost my active desktop and can't seem to get the error message to go away (Saying: An error has occurred in the script on this page, line 65, char 1, Object doesn't support this action, code 0, file: desktop:htt, Do you want to continue running script on this page?) Doesn't matter whether I say Yes or No, nothing happens.

Am running a Spy Sweeper spycheck now .... and will run AVG virus check, but will appreciate anyone's help as to what they think might be wrong.

Thanks in advance.

A:Solved: Can't Delete .RAR from Desktop/Recycle Bin

The solution had to do with a mathematically challenged me .... and a desktop able to accommodate only about 50 of the approximately 5,000 (!!!! yes, you read that right) pieces that appeared on the desk top at any one time.

Yes, Folks .... there were 5,000 segments to my split 30 minute video ... and each time I deleted about 50, another 50 appeared to take their places. I did not notice this the first 4 times it happened ... and then, I happened to look CLOSELY at a segment name and noticed the "part 276.rar" .... It was then a pretty easy thing to use SEARCH in Windows to locate the remaining (prox.) 4,875 parts and then delete them.

Yessssss, it's okay to laugh at me!!! Enjoy!

I have an icon on my Win7Pro desktop that cannot be deleted, changed, or anything. I believe it was originally connected to a pdf file that I downloaded (from a reputable site) but the download was interrupted. It's file name is simply Donor.

When I try to delete it I get a flash screen that states: Could not find this item. This is no longer located (in desktop location). Verify the item's location and try again.

I cannot rename the file. It's properties shows that it is on the desktop but has 0 bytes.

I have tried about a gazillion things to no avail, including:
Searched the registry for any entry that matches Donor, with nothing found.
Booted into safe mode and tried from there with no luck, still won't delete.
I am using full Kaspersky and a complete system sweep shows no malware, virus, etc.
Found some sites that gave some script for trying to remove such files via the CMD prompt, but result always was that the file does not exist.
Anybody have any other recommendations?
Thanks.

Perhaps try right clicking the taskbar, and making sure lock the taskbar is unchecked. Did you add those choices to the taskbar? As they are not put on taskbar automatically. Can you right click them and choose Unpin from taskbar?

I have an icon on my Windows 7 desktop that won't delete. If I drag it to the Recycle Bin, it does nothing. If I right click and say "delete," it pops-up a dialogue saying the file doesn't exist.

I scanned for viruses. Nothing. I scanned the supposedly non-existing file for viruses. Nothing. I restarted in safe-mode, and tried to delete it. Same problem.

So, if I don't have a virus, I can't delete this icon in safe-mode, and restarting over-and-over doesn't get rid of it, what do I do? I just have an obnoxious icon stuck on my desktop forever.

I can't even rename this thing. I can't ctrl-alt-del out of it, and have to restart to get the stupid windows out of my face.

These should work after checking again that the program has been removed.1. Drag and Drop to Recycle Bin. 2. Right click on the icon and go to delete. Now here are a couple of crazy ones that I have done and they worked. 1a. Right click and go to Send TO, next send it some place, floppy, thumb drive, if it works format floppy/thumb drive. 2a. Right click and email it to yourself and when received delete the email. One that knows the registry would do it there but I'm not one of them with the proper knowledge.

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

My gratitude to any and all who can help me.

I don't use Microsoft Outlook and would like to delete the icon from my XP desktop but when I click delete I get the following message: Confirm Delete--Are you sure you want to delete the Microsoft Outlook icon from your desktop? The Outlook Desktop icon provides special functionality and we recomment that you do not remove it.

I also tried to move it but it wouldn't let me.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Yeto

I deleted a PDF document but the file icon still displays on my screen - I have tried to "cut" or "delete" the file icon but I received thisa message: "Item Not Found" "Could not find item" "This is no longer located in C:\Users\MYCOMPUTER NAME\Desktop." "Verify the item's location and try again."  It then shows the name of the File, the File Size {which is 0 bytes}, Date Modified. I have tried emptying the Temp Folder; the Recycle Bin; deletions from several sources and locations, including, but not limited to Documents; My Computer, etc. with no success. Youe help and assisstance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

All of a sudden, the desktop icon for the recycle bin disappeared. When I went to 'explore', it shows the recycle bin on the desktop, but darn if I can find it! :-(
I also right clicked on the shortcut icon, and it show that it is on the desktop. I ever rebooted.
I have made a shortcut icon for the desktop - just do not know what ghost got into the system and stole it!

An update - I right-clicked on the desktop, left-clicked on 'personalize', and on the left-hand side, there was a place to 'change desktop icons' - then it opened another window which showed various icons. The checkbox for the recycle bin somehow became unchecked. So, I checked it and it re-appeared on the desktop!

seems like I am not the only one having this problem,
one suggestion is that it started after recent XP updates.

whenever I "empty" the recycle bin,
regardless of what is being deleted,
I get an error message "can't delete desktop..."(see attached)

I click okay and the recycle bin empties
but its a pain! (as are most thing with Windows! lol)

any ideas?

I just uninstalled language packs for Office 2007
After uninstalling I have this icon on my desktop: "Microsoft OneNote Namespace Extension for Windows Desktop Search" Right clicking the icon I only have the options to Cut, Create Shortcut, and Delete.
When I delete the file it isn't actually removed (refreshing the desktop it comes right back).
It's really bothering me!
Please help me.

I've managed to delete the recycle bin icon, and have no idea where the recyle bin is to empty it, and restore a couple of documents by mistake. Or, for that matter, to get the icon back on the desktop.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks,
