I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So the past couple of days I have noticed that the touch screen on my laptop hasn't been working like it use to. I'll be writing notes or homework in tablet mode or I'll be swiping in normal mode and about half of my writing, taps or swipes won't be recognized. It's really frustrating especially since it causes me to miss some notes in class. I have tried restarting it and that hasn't helped. I did factory reset it a few weeks ago, but I made sure to fix all my settings and calibrate everything after I did that. The touch screen was also working perfectly fine just last week. It just started happening after booting up one day. Does anyone know what I could do to fix this? I would send it in, but my warranty expired a few months ago.

I had updated the Windows 10 April Update on my Thinkpad X230. I use Bitlocker to encrypt C, D disks. Before update Windows, I suspended Bitlocker function on C, update all newest drivers downloaded from Lenovo for Thinkpad X230 (BIOS, Firmware, ...). After update Windows 10, I can use my laptop in some hours, then I shutdown it. However, from this time, I cannot boot Windows, it only boot on some seconds and automatically turn off. I use USB Windows to go to boot my laptop, then turn off Bitlocker in C drive, and I can boot and use my Thinkpad. Unfortunately, when I turn on Bitlocker again, my Thinkpad X230 cannot boot again. Any idea for me? Please don't tell me turn off Bitlocker.

My X230 with 6 cell 44+ battery was working good. Earlier this week, lenovo system update suggested a battery firmware update and I clicked and updated. After the update, the battery is completely dead. Don't understand how this can happen. Anybody has any ideas? This is the original battery and has been working good and still holds about 2 hours charges before its sudden death.

Hello everyone, Recently I purchased a second-handed ThinkPad-x230 with part number of 2324LZ4. The BIOS is oddly old (G1ET32WW), so I went to the support page and downloaded the latest BIOS update utility from here http://support.lenovo.com/us/zh/downloads/ds029187 with the version G2ETA8WW. When I run the utility, I got an error message "BIOS directory cannot be found". I also tried the USB update method, also similar message and to no avail. My question is, 1. It seems that the newest BIOS does not compactible to my x230 since the version starts with G2 while mine starts with G1. Is my assumption correct?2. If so, where could I found the right image?3. I found someone on the internet successfully flashed CoreBoot to replace the original BIOS. Is it safe? Thank you for your attention.

Hello,I'm trying to download newest BIOS Update Utility for my X230 https://support.lenovo.com/pl/en/downloads/ds029187 after download I checked checksums of downloaded file and they didn't match. I think I eliminated an error on my side, as I downloaded and checked this file on two different computers, on two different systems(Windows and Debian) and using two different ISPs. Every time checksums were wrong. Can someone from Lenovo look into this problem?Has anyone else have this problem as well?

Hi everyone, Last night I updates the camera and smart card drivers from Lenvo website. Immediately after the update, the camera simply stopped working. I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

If You are using notebooks with with hard drive larger than 700 GB you probably should update Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.

Hello,

My computer hangs on Windows Security Update KB953155 which is the first of 4 updates that do not install. First, I had to shut the computer off when it was hung this morning and restart it. Then I ran AU check 78 and then ran windowsupdateagent. It seemed to work so I went back to WindowsUpdate and allowed it to find the 4 updates needed for installation. Now, it hangs again at 23% on the SecurityUpdate. I am guessing that it is probably not a good idea to keep trying to shut it down with TaskManager and by resetting the computer. Yesterday, I ran a registry cleaner after I first noticed the shut down problem. It seemed to help the speed but this problem persists. Oh yea, I clicked on "stop installation" and it does not help.

New info: I turned off the computer manually while it was hung and restarted in SafeMode. Then I restarted normally. Then I went to control panel and turned off automatic updates to notify me when updates are available. Later I got a notice and tried to allow an update of Windows Media that had not caused problems before. It hung and is still running on 49%. I also got a message (that I had seen before) that "Host Process for windows services stopped working and was closed."

A:update stops shutdown

Anybody -- I'm still having problems with update. It will download but it won't install. As I said, I have used the repair utilities repeatedly but it does not fix it. Since another problem is the Hosts error problem, I had guessed that I might have a malware problem. I have downloaded sysinternals diagnostics Process explorer and I have done Hijackthis and fixed whatever the online diagnostic said was most important. Still I cannot download and install an update. Also, I cannot get the Problem Reports in control panel to connect to their fix solutions. It says that I am not online but I am. I have been working on this every spare moment for a long time. I have also used PCTools scanner and AV + Threatfire scanner. The AV found a Trojan and, I told it to fix it. Still I am having lots of problems. I cannot reinsall OS because I have (had) a hidden partition with the OS and when I made a copy of the drive to another drive, I went to NTFS and, according to Acer online help, I changed the file system from FAT32 which had the backup OS and it will not work now. I have downloaded the PE Vista utility but it will not run because it says it doesn't have a driver for my DVD. The DVD is pretty generic so I don't understand this.

Hello,

What might have happened here is the Windows services for these programs have been disabled. This is an easy fix. Follow my steps below:

1. Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
2. In the dialog, type "services.msc" (without the quotes). Figure 1
3. Locate Windows Update... Figure 2
3. ...and Windows Defender. Figure 3
4. Right-click on Windows Defender and select Properties.
5. Under Startup Type, select Automatic. Figure 4
6. Do the same for Windows Update. Figure 5

Restart your computer and you should be good to go.
If you are still getting the message, reply to this message.

EDIT: Woah sorry, instead of Windows Defender, find Windows Firewall instead and do step 5 for it too.

A:Windows Update never stops searching for updates

Follow these instructions exactly.
First, set Windows Updates to never check for Updates.
Next restart your computer, then install KB3020369, if not installed.
Then install KB3172605.

Windows updates should return to normal. You can then reset your updates to automatically check for updates if desired

Hey, everyone. About a week ago I did a factory restore on my computer to go back from Windows 10 to Windows 7. My computer came with Windows 7 x64. Here is the basic system information for my computer:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.4
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 6 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 4863 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9100, 256 Mb
Hard Drives: C: 584 GB (544 GB Free); D: 10 GB (1 GB Free);
Motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION, VIOLET6
Antivirus: Avast Antivirus, Enabled and Updated

So anyway, I was able to download and install numerous Windows Updates but then it started doing this thing where it never stops checking for Windows Updates. In other words, it continues checking for Windows Update for hours upon hours and never finishes. I am not sure what to do to fix this. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft and it found a couple of issues which it fixed but it was unable to fix one other issue. I can't recall what that issue was at the time but I am going to run it again here shortly to see if it will do the same thing again. I'll report back to you what it says it cannot fix if the error is reproduced.

Hi All,

I've been having a major problem with windows update for the last week or so, it's getting stuck "Checking for updates". Not only that, but I'm seeing this problem on 3 different installations with different underlying hardware. The 3 systems are:

1- VitrualBox (Linux Host) running Win7 Pro 32bit. This was last used July 2015 and was fully updated then.
2- Thinkpad X61 with SSD (which does NOT report 4k physical sectors/advanced format). Clean install this week of W7 Pro 64bit SP1 from official Microsoft retail disc, so no manufacturer extras.
3 - VirtualBox (Linux Host, different underlying hardware to install 1) running Win7 Pro 32 Bit, clean install this week. I did this one as an experiment after the other 2 failed to work.

All 3 systems exhibit the same problem when trying to update, the "Checking for updates" process never completes and after a period of activity, the svchost.exe process will sit at the top of the process display with unchanging memory usage and it will consume 100% of a single processor core, indicating to me that it is stuck in a single thread race condition. This continues to be the case even if I leave the computers for several hours.

I have used the automatic Windows "Fixit" for windows update on all systems, it did no good.

Patience :-)

Set the computer not to sleep.
Manually start the check for updates.
Leave the computer alone for at least 24 hours.

For some people, the check for updates ends after 20 minutes. For others, it takes many hours. Lots of speculation; but no hard facts as to why this is happening. Perhaps you are connecting to busy servers.

If you want, delete your experimental VM and create a fresh one. Before checking for updates, manually download/install the latest Windows Update client: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083324 Then manually check for updates and leave it alone.

Hi,
I've got me a new MSI P67A GD65 motherboard with an Intel i5 2500. Can't seem to get windows working right. So far I've installed on several hard drives, checked memory with BIOS tool, windows test and memtest86+, all passed.
The problem is that my usb (logitech) mouse stops working every now and then. It stops after it's been idle for a while (when i watch a movie or go out etc), or when windows update fails. Which it does a lot btw. It works fine after a reboot. A nice side effect of my not-working mouse is that windows can't shut down when it happens.
I also have experienced a nice amount of BSOD's since my upgrade, including:
Bad pool header
Page fault in nonpaged area
irql not less or equal
usb bug code
As this has worked with my older system, is this a windows or hardware issue?
Thanks

ps just installed zonealarm free, and it looked fine, but when it started scanning for programs, the mouse stopped again...?

Just so you know. I received an automatic upload of Windows 10 update KB4038788 on Sept. 13. tried to use my scanner today and it would not function. Had to go in and remove this update for scanner to continue working. Within an hour the update loaded again. So I had to remove it again and turn off automatic updates. Hope this helps the next guy.

Hello,
every time I try to run an update on my desktop Windows 10 Pro x64 (1703) to the latest patch (KB4022725), the update is stopped and withdrawn when the BSOD caused by dxgkrnl.sys appears every time after the reboot.

I have read the [SOLVED] BSOD Due to dxgkrnl.sys topic and tried to update all drivers (via device manager) - Intel Graphic Card driver was out of date, but it didn't help - the bsod appeared again after next try.

Perfmon report and Sysnative dumps attached.

Hi guys and girls

I have used my Windows 7 Beta since May, build 7100 (x64). Its fresh install and my computer is cutting edge flagship what you can buy. Windows has worked perfectly since May, but I used last windows update, shut down the comp, went to meet my parents, came back, started computer and nothing works. I can login, but cant start even a task manager. I booted it to safe mode and I ran Spybot + Regcleaner, its clean. Question whats wrong?!

I am one of these guys who doesn't use system restore, because I know what I am doing (I'm IT pro). But this is weird, because can't even run the simplest program on normal mode.

I only downloaded 3 critical updates, I don't remember well the descriptions, but they for vulnerability fixes.

Are you sure you didn't install something else, maybe a torrent, like say Restorator?

The system update wanted me to run the latest critical updates but now it has stopped at 91%. In the console window it says it is currently sending the update image to FW for verification and that I MUST NOT shut down my computer until it is done. Thus verification is at 79% and has been so for quite some time now. What should I do?

I use blood glucose meters connected to the USB port to upload daily blood sugar readings. All was working fine until I updated Windows 10 to the Anniversary Update. Now it's stopped working. I cannot see my meters on the laptop. The chipset drivers which Acer has available for download are over 12 months old. Should I download and reinstall to delete the Windows ones? Or is Acer fixing this problem and I should wait? I need to get this problem fixed so my health care professional can get my data.Thanks.Martin

Good afternoon.

I've got a Windows XP SP3 laptop where Windows Firewall starts, but after a few minutes it stops.

Microsoft Update won't run right -- it has a problem I've seen mentioned, where SVCHOST will start using up every CPU cycle. I've tried several fixes but none have resolve the issue. So it's getting out of date with important fixes.

I ran a quick Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan and a quick SUPERAntiSpyware scan but nothing was found.

I tried running ComboFix (don't yell at me!). It saved registry settings and made a checkpoint, but after several minutes it never starts any of the test stages. After a while the clock stops. Sometimes the mouse pointer will still respond.

Either I've got a strange combination of problems, or I've got some malware. What's next?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.   Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-RootkitPlease download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page.Caution: This is a beta version so please be sur... Hi,

Yesterday I realised that Windows Update wasn't working on my Windows 7 Ultimate N (32-bit) laptop.

It sometimes found updates but then when I selected them and tried to download them it just hung on 0 kb and 0%.

I uninstalled SP1 and Windows Update worked fine. Then , when reinstalled SP1 Windows Update stoped working - it just hangs while it says its looking for updates.

I have used two tools to try to fix it - Windows Update Diagnostic and Microsoft FixIt 50202. Neither have worked...

Any ideas??

Thanks

Stu

Did not work.

System Restore to 7.00 am
This well before problem, I think?

After these operations other software programmes uninstalled.

Then an OK button

That's it so far.

It would appear other progrAMMES CAN BE UNINSTALLED BUT NOT JAVA.
