I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My lenovo idepad 500 (win10) (about 1.5 years old) is sometimes hard to start up. It freezes at the moment when the lenovo logo shows up. I have also some problems with the graphics. Quite often the screen starts flashing, and when that stops the graphics are bad and everything is zoomed in. Has anyone had the same kind of problem and/or how to fix it?

Hi, this is just the second day with my new Ideapad 700, and I have just noticed that the right part of it (from the bottom right corner up to the top right corner, probably by the 20% of the width) is the noticeably warm. The left is entirely cold. The laptop is not loaded at all, the CPU graphs are below 5% and the laptop itself is not doing any heavy lifting job. How normal is it?

Hi,Have been using Ideapad Z410 from past 6 months.  From past week the Laptop shuts down without warning, and the battery level is at 99% or 100%.  Only when the unit shutsdown, and when I start up again, that the battery indicator starts from 0 and goes to 99% or 100% and stays there.  I have also doen the Battery Meter Reset, but of no benefit. What is the problem, and what should I do.Should I claim under warranty ?

A:Idepad Z410 battery always at 99% or 100%

I wouldn't expect much of an answer from them, the same happens to the Z510 I have and it happens to the Z500 models before it, they'll tell you to send it in under warranty but that will not solve the problem as it will happen again after a few months and I need the laptop for work, I didn't buy it so that after half a year I would have to send it away for 2-3 weeks, I bought the thing because it is needed here. They need a battery firmware update but that too is too hard for them to do. These problems are being experienced by people worldwide and I am seriously considering reporting them to watchdog here in the UK. They should not be shipping laptops that have known issues and then offer no fix.

hi turtle7,
Yes That info is correct if a keyboard has a backlith Capability, it should have the icon on the Spacebar. and FN+Spacebar should trigger it.
I suggest calling the store  where you bought the unit ASAP to verify This cinfiuration on your system,

I have recently bought Lenovo idepad 110. Im usually using it while plugged-in so Ive decieded to turn on battery conservation in Lenovo settings app.Recently I had to use it on battery because my plug was too far away from it so Ive turned off the battery conservation option so I could charge the battery fully BUT it still only charged up to 60%.Ive even reinstalled lenovo settings app but it still wont charge past 60%.When I first bought it and didnt know there was a battery conservation option it charged normally up to 100% so I guess its some kind of software malfunction.Anyone had any similar experience or knows how to resolve this?

I  bought this laptop lenovo idepad 510-15ISK from a shop in Greece. I added an SSD and upgraded the RAM the same day following sellers advice that the upgrade won't harm the warranty. The same day I detected that laptop were electrocuting me and the next day I returned the product to the seller for replacement. They verified the electric drain and the technician recovered the original HHD and removed the extra ram that I added so as to give it to the official technical support. I have been told that only if the technical support  say that this is a problem they will either replace the laptop or return my money back.It seems though that the technical support changed the motherboard of the laptop (approved that SSD and RAM upgrade didn't harm the laptop) and they don't approve the replacement or my money back. This laptop is no longer a new laptop but a refurbished one!!!!! I have already gone to local authorities for local seller, lenovo and official technical support for trying to cheat me and I am already contacting with local media to raise the issue in the Greek market about the tactics of lenovo. Can you please suggest me any other ways before this goes public not only in Greece but also in more European Countries?

A:idepad z510 keyboard lights stopped working

Hello MArleoThanks for using the Lenovo forums.
Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
If it doesn`t work, open it up again, make sure that there is no loose connections, it may be that one of the cables came loose when you put it back together again.
Let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

HelloRecently I buy Lenovo Ideapad 510S, but the battery seems strange, let my picture explaincan anyone tell me how to solve this strange behaviour???

Hi guys, I have a strange problem here. This is actually a continuation of the thread "struck by lightning", so if this belongs there, my apologies.

Let me start from the beginning: Both my rigs were hit by lightning back in mid summer, and I had to completely rebuild both from the ground up. Rig #1 (my personal rig) has had no problems since rebuilding, but rig #2 (my sons/fiance's rig) wasn't booting up at all. I had given up on rig #2 for a month or so, then got back on it; a lot of part swaps and voltage checks later confirmed that the brand new PSU I had purchased (Corsair 850W modular) was in fact bad, even though my voltage checks showed no problems. So I purchased a 600W single rail PSU (48A on 12v rail), since it was all I could afford for the time being. HEre are the following specs for rig #2:

AMD Phenom II quad core, 3.3 GHz

G-Skill Ripjaws series 4x 2 GB sticks

ATi Radeon 5750 1 GB Graphics card

Corsair 600W single - rail gaming series PSU (48A on 12V rail)

Thermaltake V1 120mm cpu heatsink/fan

HD: WD 750GB

Cooling: Azza case running 2x 250mm and 4x 120mm fans

Here's the strange stuff that's going on now: I DL'd the most current drievers for all of my hardware (directly from the websites - I never use the included driver disks). When I powered it on, I got the same result from the 1st time I had issues rebuilding it (black screen, no post). I thought that maybe I had yet anoth... Read more

My Gateway MN: MS2274 is having problems charging or even turning on. I don't know much about laptops since this is my first one (bad mistake). Anyways, my charger has been getting loose so I have to adjust it to even get it to charge but when it does does charge my battery it holds charge good compared to what little I know about other computers/batteries. Now, it won't turn on at all and my charging light will blink 5 times. If anyone could help me with this problem or let me know if they have experienced the same I could use it quickly!! World of Warcraft is waiting for me!! lol Side note: My tech support is passed its warranty. I have tried taking the battery out and turning on but it does absolutely nothing, not even any blinking. Maybe battery/charger? I would love for some help with this issue!

A:Gateway MS2274 -- power outlet and power on problem

That blinking light will be an error code. If you do not have a manual with the error codes in then contact Gateway to find out what it means. I have been unable to find an on-line manual to look it up in.

Chances are that either the battery, the charging circuit on the motherboard or the charger have developed a fault.

If I have understood correctly that it does absolutely nothing with the battery removed, but with the charger connected, it is most likely the charger at fault. I would test it first to be sure before buying a new one.

I bought my laptop in, I believe, late 2010. There is a small possibility it was late 2009, but I am inclined to think it was 2010. Anyway, my laptop recently went on the fritz. Two days ago, I left it on while I was out on errands. It kept running much, much hotter and louder than usual, but I thought nothing of it. Hours later, I discovered that it had shut off, which is unusual as I had left a few applications open that would keep it on. I tried to turn it on, nothing. I noticed that the ac power light (near the ac jack) was red; it should be white to show that the power cord was plugged in and charging the battery. I searched a solution online: turn off computer (check) unplug ac, take out battery, hold power button down for 30 seconds, plug battery and ac back in, turn on computer. It didn't work the first time, but I did it for 60 seconds and then it worked. Everything looked fine, and it was charging properly and the battery was working again. I thought it was just one of those things that happens occasionally, no big deal. Last night, it went out again. Ran out of power, shut down, ac power light is red, occasionally blinks white when it "recognizes that it is charging" again or whatever. Tried the procedure described above again, more than once, but no dice. I searched more solutions online. All the solutions I found involved the computer being on, such as doing a battery check. My computer WILL NOT turn on. I CAN'T do any solutions that require it to be on... Read more

A:HP Pavilion dv7-4180us power problem - no ac power, no batte...

My computer guy tells me this is a short caused by the motherboard. I am not sure why. He says the motherboard will have to be replaced.  My computer is almost three years old. It cost about $800 new. The motherboard will be about $150, "labor costs" almost another $100. So, in total, the fix would be 1/4th of the cost of laptop three years ago. The new question is whether that is worth it, and that's not even all that is wrong. The hinge is also displaced, a problem which apparently cannot be fixed. And I had to replace my hard drive about a year ago, because apparently it was "failing." In a two year old laptop. Thank you so much, employees of hp, for helping me with my problem. I hope my sarcasm is made clear enough. If and when I buy a new laptop, you can be sure it will not be an hp. I have had nothing but problems with every hp computer I've ever bought. I hate hp, and I say with all the power of my hatred, "Screw you."

Hi everybody,

I tried to search on google about this, but it's not really help and it never happen to me before so I post here.

My PC was running normally for a long time, just couple weeks ago I sent my faulty video card (xfx nvidia 8800 ultra) to get warranty service and they sent me back another. The new one works fine, but a week later I tried to turn on my computer and there's no power at all. No lights on, no fan running, just no sign of power. So I check inside if there's any wire from the PSU is unplugged, but everything looks good, nothing seems wrong. I'm sure the power from the wall is good and the power switch on the back is on. So I tried to check the wired again, push the power cable to the mother harder and press the button, it worked. But that doesnt solve the problem, if I put something heavy near the PC or the desk is vibrating a little bit, the power turns off. I press the power button again it would not turn on until I open the case and press the power cable to the motherboard harder, it's on. I then close the side panel, it's off, no power.
This is really annoyed me, I dont know what else to do. What caused this problem? The power supply or the power button? Can somebody help me?

My system specs:
ECS G31T-M mobo, Intel E8400 Duo, 2x2GB RAM
2x2 SATA HD, nVidia 8800 ultra video card
ULTRA's 1000watt PSU

When I set the power option on my pc to have the monitor turn off after so many minutes it does not work. What I mean is that the monitor goes black for one second then comes back on. This problem just started a few days ago. I posted a thread on another forum and someone suggested I run msconfig and inspect the startup tab to see if there was something in there that might be causing the problem. I saw three things in there that I had uninstalled ... nero, incd, and sagetv. I cleared the checkboxes for those three then clicked okay. That is when things started going really bad. I immediately got an error message saying that I may need administrator privelages to make the changes. I am the admin on this computer, I have been since I installed XP. When I clicked okay on that box I was prompted to restart the computer which I did. When it rebooted I then got a message that said major hardware changes had taken place since the last time XP was started and that I had to reactivate XP. No hardware changes were made at all so this totally baffles me. I still can't make changes in msconfig and I am being reminded about every 5 minutes that I need to reactivate XP. I know this was a long winded post but I wanted to be sure and get as much info in there as I could. If you have any suggestions or questions I would love to hear them.

A:PC Problem dunno what problem it is not Video Card, Not Power Supply, Not HDD, Not MB

Open the PC, then switch it on. Check that all fans (in the powersupply, on the CPU, perhaps also on the graphics card and the motherboard) are running.
If not, tell us which one is not working.
Most likely your powersupply no longer works. Give us the manufacturer's name and model, please.

I just last week built a new system. I have Win XP Pro installed. several days ago the system died. I thought maybe I didn't have the power plug in tight. I checked the plug and pressed the power button and it booted up fine. Now tonight while booting up the system died. now all that happens when I press the power button is the power LED flashes and the fan tries to turn...that's it. The system will not boot. I have checked the power supply connections on the motherboard all are tight.

I need some help. How do I know if this is a power supply problem or motherboard problem?

Hardware problem:

Windows 7 machine, approximately 1 year old.

Sequence of events:

1. Computer would not start. Diagnostics run:
a. Used different power cable.
b. Shorted power pins with screwdriver to check for problem with power button on case. Did not start.
c. Checked power supply, it was fine.

2. Took computer to geek squad (I know, I know, they were the only place that was open). They did the following:
a. Checked power cable.
b. Checked power supply.
c. Swapped the RAM around... at which point it started. But there was a software issue? So they used some "repair
disk" I'm not sure what it did. But then computer worked.

3. Took computer home, now it boots to desktop, and I can use the keyboard, but only when I plug it into one specific usb slot. It doesn't work in any of the other USB slots. No other USB devices appear to work, including the mouse.

What to do?

A:Power problem leads to USB problem... complicated.

It was my mouse. MY FRICKIN MOUSE.

I finally got into windows by tabbing around with my keyboard. Plugged in the mouse and managed to tab around for the error, windows was showing that my mouse was causing a power surge on the USB hub.

Switched to different mouse.

Everything works.

I have a HP DV9700 laptop that has a lot of problems right now, let me state what happened to it and what troubleshooting I did.

1- 2 years ago the laptop started to power up with a blank screen, So i did some research and found out about the problem with the 8600M gs chips, Hence i went for a workshop and he changed the chip-set for me cause I didn't have the money to change the whole motherboard at the time.

2- It worked for a while then the same problem happened again, so I decided that I'll try to implement aluminum foil around the chip-set so that it doesn't heat up, I ended up messing with the motherboard and the laptop doesn't power on ever since.

3- The charger is working properly and the battery is in an excellent condition.

4- Right now I need some help deciding first why won't the laptop power-up preferably with some motherboard diagrams cause I am kinda a n00b when it comes to laptop hardware, After that I need to tackle the VGA problem with alternative solutions and after choosing a solution I need to make anything to make sure that the laptop won't heat up again damaging the MB or the Video Chip.

I'm working on an HP Pavilion 7960, trying to determine what the problem is. Here are the facts:

1)When the computer is turned on, the monitor does not respond at all. It's as if it's not hooked up to anything. I know the monitor is good because it works fine on another computer.

2)I have a mouse that lights up when it has power going to it from the MB on another machine, but when hooked up to the USB port on this machine, no lights.

3)The same problem exists with the USB keyboard: no lights when on this machine, whereas it has the typical keyboard lights when plugged into another machine.

4)At first I figured this was a problem with the power connection on the MB, as the video card and USB ports weren't getting the power to run their respective components. But then I noticed that the power light for the computer was on, and the system fan and CPU fan were running. All three of those things are plugged into the MB, and use power from the MB.

5)I believe the devices that plug directly into the power supply are working fine, as I can hear the hard drive spinning.

So in a nutshell, I've got some devices getting the power they need from the MB (power light, fans), and some not (USB ports, AGP video card). Could this be a problem with the MB not being able to pass power to certain devices, or what? What is the suggested remedy, or further diagnostic tests? Thanks for any help!

Recently noticed that my moms computer sounded like the power supply fan was going out. My dad took the cover off and replaced the power supply unit. When he turned it on, windows came up but then froze. He shut it off and now when pushing in the power button a blue screen flickers and nothing else happens. Now it wont turn on at all. Could it be a bad switch. or the switch getting stuck?

A:Power problem

Did your dad install a new power supply or one that's been lying around in a closet?

Here are the reasons im asking.....
1. if its new return it for a new one.....they die like this out of the box sometimes. Unfortunately theres not much to do but send it back.

2. If its been sitting in a closet. Is this power supply rated to supply enough power for this system. The system could have crashed due to not enough voltage or the power supply failed right then and there...

If you could post some system specs.....mb,cpu,ram,video that would be helpful. Plus can you tell us what's the maximum watt output of that power supply and maker. There's a label on the power supply that will tell you this.

Recently I've been having very frustrating problems with my computer. About a month ago, the computer started not powering up at times. Basically all it showed was a blank screen when I powered up, no beeps no nothing. This only happened if I turned on/off the computer within a minute, otherwise, it would turn on fine. (If I turned the computer off, I wasn't able to turn it back on until 2 minutes or so or the blank screen problem would persist)

Now it's gone from irritating to straight up bad, I can't use my computer at all. I power it up, blank screen no matter what. Everything is plugged in properly, so I don't understand why this is happening. Can someone help?

Hello all!
I am having a power down problem. It happened very suddenly, after not having made any changes to my system. I haven't installed any programs or made any other changes at all, it just suddenly decided to not power off properly!
It's worked fine for years so this is troubling.

At first the screen will go black after the 'Windows is shutting down' message displays, but the system will just continue to run. There is no drive
activity at all after this. Pushing the reset button does nothing, and the power button will ONLY reset the system! If I hold it in, the HDD drive
access light just stays on but nothing else happens.

At one point the POST screen even told me I didn't have a keyboard plugged in! Of course I do, and after a restart my keyboard was magically detected again. Puzzling.

I should also note that my primary drive (C and D partitions) get hot now. I have a dual-fan cooler attached to it, and it never used to get so warm
before. It doesnt act like its accessing constantly or anything, at least the sound and HDD light don't indicate so. It also doesnt make any suspect noises to indicate impending failure.

I have tried several options to resolve this power down problem, including editing the POWERDOWNAFTERSHUTDOWN value in the registry. Nothing has worked for me yet; I was about to try installing the latest mobo drivers I could find (version 15.23) and I wanted to locate an up-to-date BIOS in case it was corrupted. After t... They have sent new monitors and I still have different computers not coming on or just flashing every day. This is an IT suite of 33 new M73s and Thinkvision 23s.Today two won't power on at all. I have swapped out everything to no avail. Sometimes swapping with the computer next door works, sometimes it doesn't. I have done the power reset too. This is beyond a joke now. It cost the school a lot of money and I am not getting a lot of help. Lenovo are about to take in one of the computers and monitors to look at but I am not sure this is going to show anything.

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, although I believe it's a hardware related problem, and this is a lengthy post, hopefully it will save you from asking some simple questions.

The best way to describe this problem is when the system is under load (take this with a pinch of salt as it's not always the case) it will power off without any errors or warnings of any kind. This is not a reboot, it's as if the power cord has been pulled from the PSU. The only way the machine will power back up is if I pull the cord for 10 seconds until the capacitors drain then re attach, only now will the computer turn back on.

This is where it gets difficult to locate the exact cause. The only game I regularly play is Quake III Arena, which is now 7-8 years old, it doesn't matter how this game is set up video detail wise it will run flawlessly at high frame and refresh rates (120) expect one or two occasions, I recall twice when the computer cut off I had winamp running along side, upon reboot it would be fine, then another two times when a level wouldn't even load, the next day it seemed fine. 'Newer' games not run at all, this includes recently World of Warcraft (Warcraft RTS run fine), Half Life 2 and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. This to me would appear normal since newer games require more resources, but Counter Strike older than Q3 (not at all resource heavy) causes the computer to again power off without fail, and then what is even more frustra... Ok, this one has me confused, but I think I know the answer. I just want input. A computer I built for a friend of the family runs fine at my place and at my parents house also. But when my friend takes it to his place it will run for around 12 hours then shutdown. After this initial restart it will continue to do so at an ever quickening rate ( 30 min, 23min, 15min, etc). After it shuts down I have to power off the power supply for up to 2 minutes before it will turn on again. But as I said it runs fine at other homes. The other computers in this home are fine, no problems. My theory is that since this is a newer computer than the others by atleast 5 years and it requires more power and isnt getting it. Thus causing the shutdown. As of right now I have had it running non stop for 3 days at my place. Is it possible that it is shutting down due to insufficient power coming to the computer? I have had it brought back to me now the second time for repair, and it doesnt malfunction here. I have updated the bios, and eliminated all unnecessary peripherals and it still does it at there house. Outside of that I am constantly running programs and such just to keep a load on it to see if it is a failure in that sense. Any input or experience with this problem is much appreciated.

I have an HP 510 SFF desktop pc which just powered off when i was using it. i immediately noticed that the two gree light in from of the pc is on and stays on, not even the hard drive light was fluctuating the ways it used to normally. i pressed the power button to turn off the system, and turned it back on the two green lignt was green and on like before. I opened i the cpu and also noticed that the power fan and the processor fan is spinning constantly with the two front light green. i don't know what is the problem. I am suspecting the PSU,but don't have spare.\r\n
How do i trouble shoot this PSU?

A:HP 510 SFF power problem

Since you don't have a spare power supply to test with my suggestion is to take your tower into a shop and have them jump a known good power supply to the board to see if that corrects your problem.

If the problem is resolved by jumping a known good power supply to the board then the problem is easily solved by replacing the power supply. If the problem is not resolved by jumping a known good power supply to the board you then have to look further as the problem may be the motherboard or possibly another component.

I have done this procedure to quite a few towers and the cost should be minimal, perhaps $25-$30.

I had a power outtage and my ups kicked in however my monitor powered down so I did not have a display. So, I just turned the computer without properly shutting down. Now, when I try to power up, the computer turns on for a split second and then goes into for lack of a better expression "hibernation (i.e., the hard drive doesn't kcik in, the fan to the cpu and the power supply shut off, but the on switch remains lit)." I've disconnected all of the peripherals it still shuts down. I can't think of anything else to do. Any ideas?

When I hit the power button on my PC, it takes about 25 seconds before the system starts powering up. No lights no hard drive noise...nothing for 25 seconds...then everything starts up fine. This is a home built PC with all new components that has been working fine for the past six months. I've checked the BIOS and there is no delay option that might have been set accidently. Could this be a bad switch? I've been looking on the internet for a few weeks and can't find anyone with a similar problem.

My concern is whatever is wrong will eventually totally screw up and the system won't start at all.

Time it about 5 times please. If the times are excact, you can rule out a hardware problem. If times are not excact, its either the power switch, cables are not plugged in right, or its a software problem.

On my control panel, under ,performance and maint. "power Options" it says that my UPS service has lost connection with UPS . I asked Microsoft and they suggested I do a Windows Update and that did not work. Please help me fix this.

A:PC Power problem

Do you have a UPS? If not, the message under the UPS tab in XP (you didn't say what OS you're using) will be "The UPS service is currently stopped." It's supposed to say that when you don't have a UPS.

If you do have a UPS, is the battery working? They don't last forever. If no, the connection would be lost.

Well, I have assembled my first system but am having problems. The MOBO (Asus P4S533) has an onboard LED that turns on and the Ethernet is connecting but nothing else. I believe it ay be the panel connectors for I don't know which way to put them in. Also, I ave this piece coming out of the power supply, AUX, that does't have a home...should it? I have the main power to the board but can't find a place for the AUX. Anyways, I can't turn the power on/off from the front of the case...only the back. Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!

Hi everyone ,

I'm a newbie and I was wondering if someone could help me out with my problem.

I have a SONY Vaio VGN-CR510E laptop running Vista, bought about a year and half ago.

Two weeks ago, it seemed that the old battery got drained completely beyond recharge. I basically closed the lid, tried to turn it back on 12 hours later, not plugged in this whole time, and it wouldn't turn on. So I plugged it in, it turned on again, but the battery stopped charging no matter what.

Since the battery was already only holding charges for about 1/2 hour, I decided to buy a new one.

The new generic battery worked PERFECTLY FINE with the installation CD for 2 weeks. Yesterday I did the same thing again, closed the lid, not plugged in, tried to turn it back on about 10 hrs later, and it wouldn't start. However this time, it still wouldn't turn on with the AC adapter. I did notice the battery LED light kept blinking. So I removed the battery with the AC in, only then I was able to turn on the laptop. When I tried to put the battery back, and every time I did it, Vista would say that I have an incompatible battery, or it's not installed properly. After I click OK, THE SCREEN BLACKS OUT AND THE COMPUTER BECOMES NON-RESPONSIVE). Not shutting down. And windows would only resume once the battery was removed. And while it's blacked out, the battery LED would keep on blinking.

So it's pretty frustrating and the SONY tech thinks t... Read more
