I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My lenovo idepad 500 (win10) (about 1.5 years old) is sometimes hard to start up. It freezes at the moment when the lenovo logo shows up. I have also some problems with the graphics. Quite often the screen starts flashing, and when that stops the graphics are bad and everything is zoomed in. Has anyone had the same kind of problem and/or how to fix it?

Hi, this is just the second day with my new Ideapad 700, and I have just noticed that the right part of it (from the bottom right corner up to the top right corner, probably by the 20% of the width) is the noticeably warm. The left is entirely cold. The laptop is not loaded at all, the CPU graphs are below 5% and the laptop itself is not doing any heavy lifting job. How normal is it?

Hi,Have been using Ideapad Z410 from past 6 months.  From past week the Laptop shuts down without warning, and the battery level is at 99% or 100%.  Only when the unit shutsdown, and when I start up again, that the battery indicator starts from 0 and goes to 99% or 100% and stays there.  I have also doen the Battery Meter Reset, but of no benefit. What is the problem, and what should I do.Should I claim under warranty ?

A:Idepad Z410 battery always at 99% or 100%

I wouldn't expect much of an answer from them, the same happens to the Z510 I have and it happens to the Z500 models before it, they'll tell you to send it in under warranty but that will not solve the problem as it will happen again after a few months and I need the laptop for work, I didn't buy it so that after half a year I would have to send it away for 2-3 weeks, I bought the thing because it is needed here. They need a battery firmware update but that too is too hard for them to do. These problems are being experienced by people worldwide and I am seriously considering reporting them to watchdog here in the UK. They should not be shipping laptops that have known issues and then offer no fix.

hi turtle7,

Yes That info is correct if a keyboard has a backlith Capability, it should have the icon on the Spacebar. and FN+Spacebar should trigger it.

I have recently bought Lenovo idepad 110. Im usually using it while plugged-in so Ive decieded to turn on battery conservation in Lenovo settings app.Recently I had to use it on battery because my plug was too far away from it so Ive turned off the battery conservation option so I could charge the battery fully BUT it still only charged up to 60%.Ive even reinstalled lenovo settings app but it still wont charge past 60%.When I first bought it and didnt know there was a battery conservation option it charged normally up to 100% so I guess its some kind of software malfunction.Anyone had any similar experience or knows how to resolve this?

I  bought this laptop lenovo idepad 510-15ISK from a shop in Greece. I added an SSD and upgraded the RAM the same day following sellers advice that the upgrade won't harm the warranty. The same day I detected that laptop were electrocuting me and the next day I returned the product to the seller for replacement. They verified the electric drain and the technician recovered the original HHD and removed the extra ram that I added so as to give it to the official technical support. I have been told that only if the technical support  say that this is a problem they will either replace the laptop or return my money back.It seems though that the technical support changed the motherboard of the laptop (approved that SSD and RAM upgrade didn't harm the laptop) and they don't approve the replacement or my money back. This laptop is no longer a new laptop but a refurbished one!!!!! I have already gone to local authorities for local seller, lenovo and official technical support for trying to cheat me and I am already contacting with local media to raise the issue in the Greek market about the tactics of lenovo. Can you please suggest me any other ways before this goes public not only in Greece but also in more European Countries?

Hello MArleoThanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal

If it doesn`t work, open it up again, make sure that there is no loose connections, it may be that one of the cables came loose when you put it back together again.

Hi guys, I have a strange problem here. This is actually a continuation of the thread "struck by lightning", so if this belongs there, my apologies.

Let me start from the beginning: Both my rigs were hit by lightning back in mid summer, and I had to completely rebuild both from the ground up. Rig #1 (my personal rig) has had no problems since rebuilding, but rig #2 (my sons/fiance's rig) wasn't booting up at all. I had given up on rig #2 for a month or so, then got back on it; a lot of part swaps and voltage checks later confirmed that the brand new PSU I had purchased (Corsair 850W modular) was in fact bad, even though my voltage checks showed no problems. So I purchased a 600W single rail PSU (48A on 12v rail), since it was all I could afford for the time being. HEre are the following specs for rig #2:

AMD Phenom II quad core, 3.3 GHz

ASUS M4A79XTD EVO mobo

G-Skill Ripjaws series 4x 2 GB sticks

ATi Radeon 5750 1 GB Graphics card

Corsair 600W single - rail gaming series PSU (48A on 12V rail)

Thermaltake V1 120mm cpu heatsink/fan

HD: WD 750GB

Cooling: Azza case running 2x 250mm and 4x 120mm fans

Here's the strange stuff that's going on now: I DL'd the most current drievers for all of my hardware (directly from the websites - I never use the included driver disks). When I powered it on, I got the same result from the 1st time I had issues rebuilding it (black screen, no post). I thought that maybe I had yet anoth... Read more

I bought my laptop in, I believe, late 2010. There is a small possibility it was late 2009, but I am inclined to think it was 2010. Anyway, my laptop recently went on the fritz. Two days ago, I left it on while I was out on errands. It kept running much, much hotter and louder than usual, but I thought nothing of it. Hours later, I discovered that it had shut off, which is unusual as I had left a few applications open that would keep it on. I tried to turn it on, nothing. I noticed that the ac power light (near the ac jack) was red; it should be white to show that the power cord was plugged in and charging the battery. I searched a solution online: turn off computer (check) unplug ac, take out battery, hold power button down for 30 seconds, plug battery and ac back in, turn on computer. It didn't work the first time, but I did it for 60 seconds and then it worked. Everything looked fine, and it was charging properly and the battery was working again. I thought it was just one of those things that happens occasionally, no big deal. Last night, it went out again. Ran out of power, shut down, ac power light is red, occasionally blinks white when it "recognizes that it is charging" again or whatever. Tried the procedure described above again, more than once, but no dice. I searched more solutions online. All the solutions I found involved the computer being on, such as doing a battery check. My computer WILL NOT turn on. I CAN'T do any solutions that require it to be on... Read more

My computer guy tells me this is a short caused by the motherboard. I am not sure why. He says the motherboard will have to be replaced.  My computer is almost three years old. It cost about $800 new. The motherboard will be about $150, "labor costs" almost another $100. So, in total, the fix would be 1/4th of the cost of laptop three years ago. The new question is whether that is worth it, and that's not even all that is wrong. The hinge is also displaced, a problem which apparently cannot be fixed. And I had to replace my hard drive about a year ago, because apparently it was "failing." In a two year old laptop. Thank you so much, employees of hp, for helping me with my problem. I hope my sarcasm is made clear enough. If and when I buy a new laptop, you can be sure it will not be an hp. I have had nothing but problems with every hp computer I've ever bought. I hate hp, and I say with all the power of my hatred, "Screw you."

My Gateway MN: MS2274 is having problems charging or even turning on. I don't know much about laptops since this is my first one (bad mistake). Anyways, my charger has been getting loose so I have to adjust it to even get it to charge but when it does does charge my battery it holds charge good compared to what little I know about other computers/batteries. Now, it won't turn on at all and my charging light will blink 5 times. If anyone could help me with this problem or let me know if they have experienced the same I could use it quickly!! World of Warcraft is waiting for me!! lol Side note: My tech support is passed its warranty. I have tried taking the battery out and turning on but it does absolutely nothing, not even any blinking. Maybe battery/charger? I would love for some help with this issue!

A:Gateway MS2274 -- power outlet and power on problem

That blinking light will be an error code. If you do not have a manual with the error codes in then contact Gateway to find out what it means. I have been unable to find an on-line manual to look it up in.

Chances are that either the battery, the charging circuit on the motherboard or the charger have developed a fault.

If I have understood correctly that it does absolutely nothing with the battery removed, but with the charger connected, it is most likely the charger at fault. I would test it first to be sure before buying a new one.

Hi everybody,

I tried to search on google about this, but it's not really help and it never happen to me before so I post here.

My PC was running normally for a long time, just couple weeks ago I sent my faulty video card (xfx nvidia 8800 ultra) to get warranty service and they sent me back another. The new one works fine, but a week later I tried to turn on my computer and there's no power at all. No lights on, no fan running, just no sign of power. So I check inside if there's any wire from the PSU is unplugged, but everything looks good, nothing seems wrong. I'm sure the power from the wall is good and the power switch on the back is on. So I tried to check the wired again, push the power cable to the mother harder and press the button, it worked. But that doesnt solve the problem, if I put something heavy near the PC or the desk is vibrating a little bit, the power turns off. I press the power button again it would not turn on until I open the case and press the power cable to the motherboard harder, it's on. I then close the side panel, it's off, no power.
This is really annoyed me, I dont know what else to do. What caused this problem? The power supply or the power button? Can somebody help me?

My system specs:
ECS G31T-M mobo, Intel E8400 Duo, 2x2GB RAM
2x2 SATA HD, nVidia 8800 ultra video card
ULTRA's 1000watt PSU

When I set the power option on my pc to have the monitor turn off after so many minutes it does not work. What I mean is that the monitor goes black for one second then comes back on. This problem just started a few days ago. I posted a thread on another forum and someone suggested I run msconfig and inspect the startup tab to see if there was something in there that might be causing the problem. I saw three things in there that I had uninstalled ... nero, incd, and sagetv. I cleared the checkboxes for those three then clicked okay. That is when things started going really bad. I immediately got an error message saying that I may need administrator privelages to make the changes. I am the admin on this computer, I have been since I installed XP. When I clicked okay on that box I was prompted to restart the computer which I did. When it rebooted I then got a message that said major hardware changes had taken place since the last time XP was started and that I had to reactivate XP. No hardware changes were made at all so this totally baffles me. I still can't make changes in msconfig and I am being reminded about every 5 minutes that I need to reactivate XP. I know this was a long winded post but I wanted to be sure and get as much info in there as I could. If you have any suggestions or questions I would love to hear them.

Open the PC, then switch it on. Check that all fans (in the powersupply, on the CPU, perhaps also on the graphics card and the motherboard) are running.
If not, tell us which one is not working.
Most likely your powersupply no longer works. Give us the manufacturer's name and model, please.

Hello,

I have a HP DV9700 laptop that has a lot of problems right now, let me state what happened to it and what troubleshooting I did.

1- 2 years ago the laptop started to power up with a blank screen, So i did some research and found out about the problem with the 8600M gs chips, Hence i went for a workshop and he changed the chip-set for me cause I didn't have the money to change the whole motherboard at the time.

2- It worked for a while then the same problem happened again, so I decided that I'll try to implement aluminum foil around the chip-set so that it doesn't heat up, I ended up messing with the motherboard and the laptop doesn't power on ever since.

3- The charger is working properly and the battery is in an excellent condition.

4- Right now I need some help deciding first why won't the laptop power-up preferably with some motherboard diagrams cause I am kinda a n00b when it comes to laptop hardware, After that I need to tackle the VGA problem with alternative solutions and after choosing a solution I need to make anything to make sure that the laptop won't heat up again damaging the MB or the Video Chip.

Thanks

Hardware problem:

Windows 7 machine, approximately 1 year old.

Sequence of events:

1. Computer would not start. Diagnostics run:
a. Used different power cable.
b. Shorted power pins with screwdriver to check for problem with power button on case. Did not start.
c. Checked power supply, it was fine.

2. Took computer to geek squad (I know, I know, they were the only place that was open). They did the following:
a. Checked power cable.
b. Checked power supply.
c. Swapped the RAM around... at which point it started. But there was a software issue? So they used some "repair
disk" I'm not sure what it did. But then computer worked.

3. Took computer home, now it boots to desktop, and I can use the keyboard, but only when I plug it into one specific usb slot. It doesn't work in any of the other USB slots. No other USB devices appear to work, including the mouse.

What to do?

A:Power problem leads to USB problem... complicated.

It was my mouse. MY FRICKIN MOUSE.

I finally got into windows by tabbing around with my keyboard. Plugged in the mouse and managed to tab around for the error, windows was showing that my mouse was causing a power surge on the USB hub.

Switched to different mouse.

Everything works.

I just last week built a new system. I have Win XP Pro installed. several days ago the system died. I thought maybe I didn't have the power plug in tight. Now tonight while booting up the system died. now all that happens when I press the power button is the power LED flashes and the fan tries to turn...that's it. The system will not boot. Hi,
I'm working on an HP Pavilion 7960, trying to determine what the problem is. Here are the facts:

1)When the computer is turned on, the monitor does not respond at all. It's as if it's not hooked up to anything. I know the monitor is good because it works fine on another computer.

2)I have a mouse that lights up when it has power going to it from the MB on another machine, but when hooked up to the USB port on this machine, no lights.

3)The same problem exists with the USB keyboard: no lights when on this machine, whereas it has the typical keyboard lights when plugged into another machine.

4)At first I figured this was a problem with the power connection on the MB, as the video card and USB ports weren't getting the power to run their respective components. But then I noticed that the power light for the computer was on, and the system fan and CPU fan were running. All three of those things are plugged into the MB, and use power from the MB.

5)I believe the devices that plug directly into the power supply are working fine, as I can hear the hard drive spinning.

So in a nutshell, I've got some devices getting the power they need from the MB (power light, fans), and some not (USB ports, AGP video card). Could this be a problem with the MB not being able to pass power to certain devices, or what? What is the suggested remedy, or further diagnostic tests? Thanks for any help!

This isn't Win7 specific (mostly)

First, look at my system specs.

OK, for the past few months, I've been having a problem where about 60% of the time on boot, I guess the video hardware doesn't kick in. What's weird is that it not only doesn't load any video (both monitors stay in "powered down" mode - yellow light), but the system access light stays solid red.

All of the fans work. I checked the circuitry twice. I don't have any power problems at all, period, once it boots. I've tried other cards, different power cables, etc. I've even underclocked my system (I never overclocked it).

I mostly work around it by hitting reset and waiting to see if the monitors turn on.

My guess would be some fault in the hardware, but I can't find it. I've done everything short of switching motherboards.

Now, the weird part... when I switched from Vista to 7100, it worked frine. When I upgraded to 7201, it reverted.

Before I go out and spend on a new motherboard, I wanted to see if anyone has a better idea.

A:Odd power problem

Bring it over here, we'll workbench it and see what's going on.

Honestly, it sounds like a BIOS/Mobo problem. Do you run defaults in BIOS?

Hi

The power point is fine when the leads in it, it only sparked when i turn the power on the tower. What has happened? Have I got to replace the power supply?
It was fine yesterday, but last thing happened before the sparks, my son turned the computer off without me shutting down properly, could that trigger the incident?
It's an old computer only a 3.6GB hdd it's been working fine until now.
Please help me. I also have a multimeter, will i need that to check problems?

thanks

It sounds more like a physical problem with the power point, and not with the computer. Your description points to arcing in the wall socket?

I am having a power problem with 32 bit windows 7 pc. It shuts off randomly and when I check the event log it says error 41 I was looking on the back of my pc and saw a little slide button that says 115v-220v. I know 115v is standard house voltage. would it hurt my pc if I changed it to 220v? and would it increase my wattage output?

Ok, so I am building a secondary computer with some slightly ghetto parts but for the most part they are decent. We installed the power supply plugged everything in.

We turn the POWER SUPPLY on from the back and everything powers up that is governed by the PSU (fans, LEDS, and CD drive) but the hard drive is not spinning and the power LEDs in the front of the case are not working , and we are obviously not getting any monitor input (rather it be onboard or through video card)

We messed around with some stuff and now the POWER SWITCH on the front of the computer and now THAT is what turns the things mentioned above ON and not simply the PSU switch (keep in mind, before this ONLY the PSU switch could turn anything on)

So this is pretty weird so far....

we have tried just about everything, resetting BIOS via battery, and plugging wires in differently, securing wires, ect...

So overall...

when power is turned on EVERYTHING REMAINS OFF besides the fans, cd drive, and LEDs

What is wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated me and my friends are sitting here spamming f5!

this just in... power switch CANNOT turn anything off and it must be turned off via PSU (weird?)

however! HARD DRIVE , MOBO CHIPSET are heating up so thats a clue, however we are still unsure about the CPU

still far from monitor input however

Hi

I have just built myself a new system which is was working fine untill now. The front USB ports have been working ok with flash drives and game controllers etc. But today I hooked up a printer and as soon as I touch the metal of the USB plug on the metal of the USB port it reboots the system. Now Im presuming this is something to do with the power from the printer, because when I turn it off it doesn't do it.

When I connected up the case to the board I was careful and made sure things were in the correct place. The power buttons and the reset button for the case seem to be working correctly.

Has anyone got any ideas??

A:USB Power problem

if its only the printer making this happen, and its only when the printer is switched on, then it must be the printer. i had the same thing happen to an epson dx4850, small pulses of electricity went down the usb cable. enough to create physical pain if i kept my hand on there. luckily i had a 3 year on-the-spot replacement policy. afraid i dont have any ideas of how to fix it though

Hey guys - hoping some of you experts can shed some light on this for me:

I have an Asus p4S8x system with Intel 2.4GHz processor, Pioneer DVD drive, Sony CDRW drive, one case fan, and one 80gb Western Digital 8mb cache 80GBHD that's been working flawlessly for me.
Recently, I got a the PVT28ANC XFX GeForce4 ti4200 128mb VIVO DVI video card.

After about 8 hours of use with the new video card, my 300 watt evercase power supply stopped working - that is, it is no longer able to power up my system. When I press the power button, I hear the system struggling to turn on, and it continues to struggle as long as I hold the button down.

So I got a new Antec SL400 400watt power supply, and it has been working well for the past couple of days with one exception - if the computer has been shut off for a while, I have to hold case the power button for at least a second or 2 for it to finally boot up (if I release the power button too quicky, it does not power on). This only happens if the computer has been powered off for several hours, but it does not happen if the computer has only been powered off for a few seconds/minutes. So if the comp is "warm", one gentle, quick tap of the power button will boot her up, but if it has been powered off for a extended periods, I have to hold the power button for a few seconds for it to boot up again. It seems as if the PC is struggling to turn on, but shouldn't a 400 watt Antec power supply be enough? I have done seve... Read more

A:Help please! PC power up problem!

This problem is fairly common with new video cards. I think you'll notice that if you remove your video card (in which after powering off your PC), you shouldn't have any problems booting up.

There are a few things you can do:

1) Check how much power/voltage (or juice) your Vid card needs and total it up with all your system needs.
2) Make sure your PSU (power suppy) is set to give off enough power to handle the card and the rest of your system.
3) I see that your PSU isnt part of the "TruePower" series from Antec in which the PSU controls the power itself. What you want to do is refer to your manual and online documentation for your power supply. Check for steps in increasing your voltage, be very carefull, when increasing, go in very small increments. But do remember to check documentation before and take plenty of precautions.

Do more research on your PSU and your card!

A:power on and off problem

Go inside the case (with the power disconnected) and pull off the connection that goes to the on off switch. Then plug in the mains supply and see if it still boots up. If it does you may have a fault on the motherboard, if it doesn't try to boot then the fault is most likely in the on off switch and should be replaced.

When I turned the power strip back on, I clicked the power button on my PC and nothing happened, no fan noise, no light, nothing. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Sounds like Windows power management isn't working quite right.

Check in Control Panel, System, Device Manager...System. Is Advanced Power listed there? If so, delete it and reboot then try a shutdown.

could be the mod chip you originally installed. I realize you uninstalled it but you could have done irreversible damage.
