This game installer freezes my comp

Q: This game installer freezes my comp

This Pirate King Online installer that I recently downloaded has been giving tough time. Whenever I tried to click on it, it just hangs. I mean literally clicking. I even tried to delete it but it wouldn't let me. I use right click, the delete button, and deleting through command prompt. But it still couldn't be deleted. Any help please ?

Preferred Solution: This game installer freezes my comp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: This game installer freezes my comp

hello there i dont know much about 'Pirate King Online installer' or the game itself but still i`ll try to help.
-It may be that after u click it the programs seeks a lot of resources to run and perform further actions..post ur system configuration also. And aslo try to run it again after u have closed all programs (even ur antivirus) and wait for some time..also u can open the task manager nad click on performance tab to see if ur resources are really being used up or something else is the matter.(open the task manger befor starting the game/downloader)
-maybe the program/installer u downloaded has virus/bug/trojan.
Have u seen any other un-usual activity since u downloaded it? like ur system has become slower(while ur nor running this program) or some programs dont respond as quick as they used to be if yes then ur system might have been infected.
-u can downoad a small n free utility called UNLOCKER and use it to see what is blocking u from deleting the files.
-for deleting u can also try this: open task manager-->click on processes tab-->find explorer.exe--right click--end task--yes after this everything will close so dont worry about that n make sure ur not in between of something when ur doing this as u might lose unsaved work. OK after this click on the applications tab or click on the file option-->new task--->browse for that file and see if u can delete it now..whatever happens u can get ur explorer working again by typing explorer.exe in new task n press enter or u can browse explorer.exe from the same location its located in c:\windows.

Greetings. Now I am having problem everytime that I start up my PC, this Lineage II installation keeps on popping out everytime I start my PC. It was tolerable before I have to cancel it everytime but I'm getting annoyed by it.So I check on the start-up on msconfig but notice nothing on it. I run the windows task manager and found these one running and eventually disappear when I cancel the installation pop-up. The process arePnkbstrA.exePnkbstrB.exeIts located on windows/system32I would like to ask some technical people about these one. Are these files safe to delete? I have run a combofix.exe for now... some advised me to use this one on our forum. Thanks in advance.

Hello ayeika and welcome to BC I am shifting this topic from the HiJack This forum to the Am I Infected forum as you haven't posted any logs.Who advised you to run Combofix? ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert." It is NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. There are not a few posts I've seen in which someone used it and their computer became an expensive doorstop. You're lucky that yours hasn't.That said, what is your operating system: Windows XP, Vista, etc.?What security programs do you have installed?Orange Blossom

why does this 3-d game keep locking up my comp? its called age of mythology. the requirements are 450 MHz 16 mb video card. my comp is 500 MHz pentium III 192 mb of RAM, and 64 mb video card.

A:3-D game locking up my comp

By "locking up" do you mean causing the whole system to freeze, and making you reboot, or just freeze the game?

I did notice your computer specs are barely making the minimum requirements of the game. The minimum requirements mean the minimum that the game will "run" on. That doesn't necesarially mean that it will run nicely.

Do you have the latest version of sound and video card drivers, as well as the required version of DirectX?

If not, try updating those.

Also, what OS are you running?

Please HELP!!!! neither Xbox nor Linksys is of much help....

I presently have 2 comp and 1 xbox live all hooked up to a router - up until about 4 weeks ago I was able to connect to the internet with my 2 comps and xbox at the same time - now i can only get one at time on line.

>>>> The prob started after i had to unplug the Xbox from the Router - now we can no longer connect all 3 items at the same time, not even just 2 of them. It has to be one at a time or none at all.

Does any one know what might be causing the problem? Does the 2 comps and the xbox all need be on a different ip addresses? Please HELP me for Xbox Support nor Linksys Support seems to know what might be going on. Verizon (my DSL server) did mention that it seemed as though the Xbox
"might be" stealing all the bandwith - not for sure!!!!!

I await any and all HELP..... my family needs its 3 way connection back - it is killing mom - lol.

A:Networking Game/Comp Prob!

Yes, all three devices need to have unique IP addresses. Is DHCP turned on in the router?

You could always connect each device to the router and check their IP addresses. I'm not sure how to check the IP address of an Xbox but it can't be that hard.

You could alway download this to one of your PCs and install it. Do a scan of the IP range that the Linksys is ginving out (when each device is connected to the router).

It's possible that the Xbox is set to BOOTP or something else and has aquired an IP address and doesn't want to release it. If it's keeping an IP address and the router doesn't know about it the router will try to give out the same IP address which would cause problems for you.

This might come in handy as well.

i need some expert help. i have never played video games on computer, but i know im gonna need a good controller. is there a good one to get that stands out above the rest? i had one before but could never get it to work. probably operator screw up.

A:Solved: game controllers for comp.

Well, it depends on what kind of games you want to play. If you want to play first-person shooters, like Half-Life, Call of Duty, etc., then you may find that the keyboard and mouse are easier, and more natural to use. If you want to play sports games, then a controller is definitely a better option. Some games just work better with a controller than others.

Anyway, for the actual controller, I have a Logitech Rumblepad 2 that I use for baseball games, and it works great for me. I've seen many people using an Xbox 360 controller for PC use, and it works great for them. I'd probably try that if I had an Xbox, but I don't, so the Logitech controller works for me.

Your system may be overheating. A comuter will auto shut off if it gets overheated. Open up your case and make sure the fans are working properly and they're not too dusty.

Hi all
I was installing a game but had some trouble. I had a 2 large powerpoint files and a large word file open at the time and was trying to do some work while the installer did its buisness but it was to much for my computer to handle i guess. My computer froze and I had to restart without the install finnishing. When I restarted my computer I tried to reinstall the program however now every time i open the installer, the installer freezes right away and I have to "end now" from task manager. I tried restoring my computer to before the first install but it didn't work. Just in case that was not too clear, my first install did not complete because i had to restart my computer. Now the installer freezes as soon as I pick my language.

Any help is appreciated

I use Windows 7 primarily. I tried installing Mafia - The City of lost Heaven but the "MafiaSetup.exe" does not open. When i double-click the windows mouse pointer circle just appears for a moment and then nothing happens. Same thing happens for GTA 4 as well. Many other Games work flawlessly like Wheelman or Prince of Persia series or even GTA San Andreas. But these two games do not work (only these two dont work so far. but i suspect many may fall in this category). I tried the same DVDs of the games in my friends' PCs and they worked perfectly. So the prob is not wid the DVDs, of which am 100% sure.

I tried re-installing win7 assuming that would solve the prob but the same thing happened in the fresh new installation (i did NOT import settings or anything). Then i tried installing XP and when i opened MafiaSetup.exe it just opened for a second like a "black rectangle" maximized the window and then quit. GTA 4 dint open at all. I donno wats causing this coz its common across all OSs.

Can something in BIOS cause this?? Or where can the prob possibly be. I am lost!!!

There is yet another thing. My PC got a virus a few months back. It was just something that caused google to not work properly. Then i downloaded a fix for it from the internet (a freeware program) and it fixed it. There were no traces of the prob after that. I feel that virus (or malware or watever) is now done wid and this most probably has nothing to do wid it. I dont remember the ... Read more

Hi mate,
First of all, maybe your processor is overheating because you have loads of dust inside the case and on heatsink...
Open the case and clean it from dust with vacuum cleaner or with compressed air...
Also check your PSU, if it is older than 1,5 - 2 years, you should try to clean it from dust too... Maybe PSU could not hold and it turns off... Touch the case near PSU after 5-10 min of playing games and check if it is warm... Also check if cooler in PSU is spinning and taking out hot air...
Let us know what you did...
Hope this will help you mate...

I've recently found the amazing game Magic Carpet, by Bullfrog Entertainment (now taken over by EA), which I used to play on my Compaq Presario 1500 back when Windows 95 had just come out... a DOS game.

The game runs, excepting sound, but it runs MUCH faster than it's supposed to... characters are flitting around near the speed of light and it's impossible to navigate my character.

I've tried CPUKiller... at low levels it didn't help and at mid to high levels it made the rest of my computer crawl but only resulted in the game skipping and lagging, which I'd guess was a struggling framerate?

I'm not sure what to do. I have noticed that F1 through F10 alter some things in the game, and I can toggle between a normal speed, fast, and super fast, which doesn't help when "normal" is a blistering speed. I tried running a hex editor to possibly alter this speed value to my advantage (I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do). It seems like running anything with the game results in low virtual memory and lags out my system.

Here's the [Magic Carpet Demo Download]
And here's the Patch, two files which replace the two found in the Levels folder (in case you solve my problem and want to enjoy the game for yourself)

Any ideas?

A:Problems running unearthed old game favorite on new comp

Thats the problem with running it in Windows XP & unfortunately, it can't be fixed. You're better of trying to run in it Windows 98 or 95 if u still have them. I have Windows 98 installed as a backup OS on a second partition on my hard disk. I play this old DOS game called Return to Zork from time to time. I too tried CPU Killer but no use. I ran it in Windows 98 instead, and it ran perfectly.

First, hello to everyone,
I'm new in this forum and I'm looking for some help.

Recently my computer crashed and it could not restart the system (Windows XP Media Edition SP3) anymore, first it said the ntldr file was missing, so I decided to avoid the mess and reinstall the whole system since my working files are safe in another drive.

The big problem is that for some reason the Windows XP SP3 installer always freezes when it reads that there are 34 minutes left to finish the installation and while there is a progress bar that reads something like "Installing devices". I tried several times, I tried after re-formatting the entire disk and I tried with both Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows XP Media Edition SP3 and it always freezes at that stage.

I'd like to know what is causing this problem as I have installed XP SP3 several times before with no incidents and how this issue can be fixed.

My computer is a 3 year old Intel Pentium 4, 768MB RAM 2.4Ghz with an Intel D848PMB Motherboard.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I've had this really annoying problem of my computer beginning to freeze unexpectedly after using it for a short period of time. I don't have alotta PC knowledge unfortunately. There is also like a squeaking noise coming from it periodically, the light that comes on accompanied by the computer actively doing something also flashes when the squeaking noise happens.

The freezing issue is a lot more aggeravating as i play online games (such as Cod4 etc) and it makes the game unplayable after just a short period of play. I also get slowdown that ISN'T lag related, I'm sure of that.

Cant remember the name of my motherboard but the rest of my rig is: Pentium 4 Processor (Intel Inside), 2 gigs of RAM, around 200gb of memory and, in case this is useful, Radeon x800 PRO/GTO. I use the free AVG anti-virus program which i recently installed (as Norton 360 wasn't letting me do ANYTHING, even with reduced safety settings. The problem was there before the installation of AVG however. Any help would be great, thank you in advance.

A:my comp freezes!!

Before any work can be done on this machine, there is something that requires your immediate intervention.

This machine is messed up pretty badly because you have several anti-virus programs (AVG & Symantec) on your machine. That's not a good idea!!

Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & produces undesirable results. Please uninstall ALL leaving only one of them.

ALL the antivirus programs must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstallPost a fresh HJT log when you have completed the above

Sorry, but this website has Rules that prevent us from any assistance with using Torrent programs. Doesn't matter what the use is- we do not provide assistance with USING any Torrent programs or files. I will have to close your thread.

I have no idea how this would connected to the RAM modules being used in the computer. Perhaps you have a hardware issue.

And its always at a different point. Sometimes it tricks me and goes for a bit, other times it freezes right away. I'm wondering if its my memory maybe? Or perhaps itssomething else.

Working on my friends comp, HP Pavilion p6112p running Vista home Premium 64 bit.

It freezes when going online and or when I plug in the internet cable.

I have run MSE and it found 3 things. I did this a couple of nights ago and don't remember exactly what they were but think it was PowerRegShed.exe that I quaranteened and it got rid of the other 2, yaboncy or something like that.

I have also run Malwarebytes, a2, and Superantispyware. Spywareblaster was enabled also.

Now every scan comes back clean but it still locks up. I don't have access to a install/boot disk.

I did the DDS scan in safe mode. Not sure what mode was needed. I noticed Norton in the results. Thought I had that all gone back when she bought the comp?

I've want to play Silkroad again since i've played it half a year ago but i lost my password and i lost my secret answer of my secret question to recover the password.

could i search de password in my computers registry and if yes how?

A:game password forgotten find back in comp. registry

If it is in the registry, then you may be able to find it using this procedure:

1. Click on start->run and type regedit in the box.
2. In the registry editor, click on edit->find and put in the name of the game or its manufacturer (I don't know how this game stored its information in the registry, so you might have to search on multiple terms before you find the information you are seeking).
3. Hit F3 to go to successive matches of the search term if the current match is not what you are looking for.

I have no idea what the license would look like and whether you would be able to recognize it or the keys corresponding to it, so good luck.

Okay so here is the deal. Randomly during installation, my computer will freeze. I've seen it happen during "expanding files," to it happening before I can select hard drives, to it even happening after the 1st restart.

So first, here are my computer specs:

DFI LanParty DK 790FX Motherboard (socket AM2 motherboard.)
6 GB of Mushkin Enhanced blackline DDR2 RAM
AMD Althon 64 X2- 3 Ghz
MSI Cydlone (Nvidia 460 GTX)
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB hard drive (7200 RPM, 32 MB cache) (SATA 1)
Western Digital Raptor 72 GB hard drive (10k rpm, not sure of cache) (SATA 2)
LG SuperMulti DL DVD R/RW/LightScribe (SATA 3)

Now, I've done multiple things: I've tried dropping down to 1 Ram stick to leave me with 2 GB, I've tried using a friend's known to be good RAM stick, Have all USB devices unplugged and went to a PS/2 Keyboard (still use a PS/2 mouse), Unplugged my Ethernet cord, and have even tried installing to the raptor windows 7. I've also tried a burned copy of Windows 7.

BTW, I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate.

If you need anything else let me know!

A:During installation, at various points, installer freezes.

Just tried using only the one hard drive. No go still.

When I was trying to update my ATI products the installer has randomly froze and now the progress bar does'nt even progress and it now only says "currently installing ATI Catalyst install manager" and it's been doing this for a day now and I've tried cancling it but it just says "Please wait for the current process to finish"
What do I do now?
If I don't do something maybe my computer is going to get ruined

A:Ati Catalyst installer randomly freezes

The only thing I can imagine is that your security software or UAC decided to block the process and is waiting for your input.
Restarting will stop it, but it will more than likely ruin your graphics software installation at the same time.

You'll more than likely need to scrub it and reinstall.
Here's a tool for scrubbing graphics drivers.

I am new to this forum but have been reading over the last week or so since my comp has decided to act like a naughty child. lol So pleased I found you as I'm coming very close to throwing the whole thing through the window!!

I have posted in the hijack log thread but I think I also have a seperate problem. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

I have been using avg free for a couple of years and have had no problems, but in the last month or so I find that when I start or restart windows freezes as it is loading. I have to restart upto four times before it starts properly.

The reason I mention AVG is because I had to uninstall it to try and sort out my virus problem the other day and while it was uninstalled I had no problems when restarting. I think AVG is causing it to freeze on start up.

I have re-installed it and am getting the freezing again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You have a log postedyou should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make may cause confusion for the member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working on logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respondTo avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

Immediately following the processor detection, right before the RAM check, my computer freezes.

It was working fine, then I powered down to install a DVD+-RW. I installed it and tried to boot up, but it froze immediately following processor detection. I powered down, then back up and it didn't work again. I powered down and checked all of my power and IDE cables, as well as my master/slave switches. Everything was setup correctly.

When I plugged my computer back in and booted next, I had no video support. The video was not working. However, the computer fully booted because the Windows sounder went off. I rebooted (Win->U->U) and it loaded fully without video support. Again I rebooted, and this time I had video, but it got stuck in the same spot in POST, immediately following processor detection before the RAM check.

I powered down and took the new DVD device off of power and IDE. It stuck in the same spot on bootup. I powered down and reconnected it, trying again, and it didn't go.

At this point, I thought it was my video card since it was able to fully boot without the video support. I stuck in a brand-new lower-end card, and it booted fully with video support. I powered back down, concluding that my video card was defunct somehow... That perhaps I got some static on it or something. As a last-shot troubleshooting step, I decided to put the old video card back in, which is vastly nicer than my old one. It booted fully with video support this time.

My computer just recently started to freeze right at the log-in screen where I select my name. The culprit I believe is my new wireless adapter. I had to return my first one, for it did not work. The one I just bought must work because there is a bright green light that shines from the adapter. The thing is, when the green light on the adapter stays on, my computer freezes right away. I am positive it is this becuase I move my mouse around, and when it turned green, the mouse stop and it froze. I don't know what to do.

A:Comp Freezes at Start up

Can you remove the adapter and if so does this solve the problem? Also, what sort of adapter is it, eg USB, PC Card, Laptop Adapter, etc?

My guess they are running out of memory and should upgrade the amount.

Also make sure they installed the latest Windows updates, which may fix the problem as well.

I read the other thread with computer freezing problems, and it's not related.

The problem is the following:

On April 27, my computer installed a windows update which I didn't notice. I turned on my computer and after 5 minutes of it being turned on, it froze.

I tried to system restore and noticed there was a windows update, so I tried to restore to a point before the windows update, but it didn't let me. Once in the screen with my background and all that, it freezes after 5-10 minutes of being turned on. It freezes even faster when either my msn or firefox is running.

On a side note: Most of the times when I install a windows update, something happens.
For example, Windows Vista Package 2 Update. I updated my computer, and before it started up, it stopped loading the screen where I input my password, a black screen appeared. But this one could be solved with system restore.

As I mentioned above, system restore is not helping this time. I already backuped my main files, in case the solution is to format it to its factory shipped state.

In case that's the solution, I have lost my discs.. How do I format it back without the discs?

Any help on what to do is appreciated.

A:My comp randomly freezes.. please help

I'm not sure what update it might be; the latest one on my Vista Home Premium 32-bit is dated April 14.

At any rate, have you tried uninstalling it in Control Panel > Programs and Features (View Installed Updates)?
