recovering favorites from Internet Explorer on Windows 7; adding add-ons to your browser; adding Norton log-ins to browser.

Q: recovering favorites from Internet Explorer on Windows 7; adding add-ons to your browser; adding Norton log-ins to browser.

There are several issues that came up when I upgraded to Windows 10. While it is a celebrated and supposedly eye pleasing application, it seems that they have chosen to disregard users and deleted certain preferences from a user's browser. This makes
it practically impossible for the user to log into several accounts, since every single site requires different types of passwords, and in order for a person to be able to log on to the several accounts, a person would have to carry around a folder with about
100 different account names, user names, passwords, answers to who, what, or where, phone #s & other pertinent information to be able to log onto or recover a lost or forgotten password.I really do not like what Microsoft has done with the new browser.
It looks chick, but to me it's unworkable and a nuisance to use. If the Cadillac is not broken, why fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was keeping my music specifically on another disc and have now moved the collection onto my files disc so you see the "D:\" folder which is the missing music drive directory and I do not know how to delete it.

I need to add a Music folder into the library but do not know how...or change the name of the "D:\" folder to "Music" and point it to my the files HDD.

I am running windows 7 and IE9 on a new computer and I have a problem adding to "my favorites'
I want to add a new website to an existing folder in 'my favorites', so I click 'add to favorites' then I choose the folder from the drop down menu and click 'add'.
When I check the folder in ' my favorites'he website is missing. If I add it to just 'my favorites' [no drop-down] then it appears at the foot of the listings.
Could someone please help ?

Hi Ron and Welcome to Seven Forums. After adding to your folder did you right click on any entry then click Sort by Name? Perhaps it was lost. Also check the name that shows after you click Add To Favorites.

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me with this. My sister was on my laptop today and mentioned that she could not add any attachments to her gmail account.

I tested it in her user account as well as mine and sure enough the browser would crash as soon as you would hit the "Browse" button to add any attachment. I have tried it in Internet Explorer 8.0; Firefox 3.0.11 and Chrome

I have also tried attaching files in Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail as well as my school account. I am running out of options. Does anyone know what might be the issue.

Hi. Sometimes I've had to reformat my comp and of course everything is erased. In the past I knew how to save html file favorites from Firefox and IE to a folder so that when the reformat was over I could dbl click them and re add them to favorites.

I have since forgotten where to go to do this. Which folder do you access for any web browser (I am currently using IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera sporadically. I might try Avant at some point too) to get to the actual favorite file? That way I can copy it to my external drive and once I reinstall the browser readd it to favorites. Please let me know how to do this as in the past I lost some very important favorites my mom had added in Mozilla.

Since you have thousands of favorites I would think that it will take the computer a bit to keep track of what is what and it might take a bit of time to do its job. I think that the computer is just being normal.

One solution is to make a web page for yourself and keep all of the favorites on there. You can use the personal web space your ISP provides for web pages you might want to check with them.

This problem has gone on for a long time and I finally need and want to cure it. This occurs on my laptop and my desktop. I just replaced my HDD in my desktop, and thanks to help from here I easily clean installed Win 10 two days ago using ISO dvd. I use OE11 as well as Edge on occasion. Today I was going to arrange my Favorites bar as I had it previously. I clicked the >> to show the entire list and it now runs for 4 pages or more, mostly made up of multiple repetitive listings of the original smaller number. Most are followed by (2) or (3), etc. denoting the repeated listings. The problem keeps growing and I need to stop it and get rid of all of the many duplicates. What is causing this to continue to occur and how can it be stopped? Many thanks for an assist.

Hi all,
Some time ago I backed up my Favorites List on a CD. Yesterday I dragged and dropped this folder to C:\'My Name'/Favorites and it replaced the one that was there. Then I discovered I was unable to add urls to my Internet Explorer 8 Favorites List, I get "unspecified error". After much useless fooling around I was unable to recover the original Favorites folder.
To make matters worse I then went to C: Programs (86) and opened the Internet Explorer folder. I don't have a clue as to what the heck I did but now I have an 'extra' Internet Explorer Folder that looks like this "Internet Explorer (86) (86)" with nothing in it but a folder and 1 'Favorites'. To top it off I also have the very same folder in 'Internet Explorer (86)' I tried to delete the Internet Explorer that appears as "Internet Explorer (86) (86)" but it keeps coming back. I even took Ownership and that didn't help. I don't even know if that second folder is even supposed to be there.

Is there any way to get this thing back to normal?
Thanks for looking,

A:IE8 'Unspecified Error' when adding to Favorites List

I have a 32-bit system and only one Program Files folder. In x64 there may be two to separate 32-bit from 64-bit programs, but to be honest I'm not sure about that. I AM sure you shouldn't have three and that at least one or possibly two of those should not be there. I do not know what you did to cause this - probably moving the Favorites folder the way you did since shell folders (like Favorites - the ones that have a greenish color to the folder icon) need to be moved in a special way and can't be moved like other folders (but while I would expect Favorites to then be a problem, this duplication of Program Files is a bit of a surprise). The thing is, just deleting them (if you can determine which are wrong) may cause problems because for one you're not certain which is the "real" one and which are the duplicates or incorrect ones and for two deleting one can sometimes result in deleting entries in all when this type of thing happens - and that would be bad (as you'd be deleting your program files). Let's try the simplest solution first - this usually repairs problems of this nature and is one of my favorite and most effective troubleshooting tools.

Do you know when this problem began (sounds like you do when you did what you did)? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began (and maybe give it a few hours or a day to be sure). Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to ... Read more

On my old computer using WINDOWS 8.1 with IE11 as the browser, when I am on the internet and save a url to my favorites, it saved in a folder named "FAVORITES" on my c: drive.

I just bought a new HP Laptop with WINDOWS 10 installed and using EDGE browser to access internet.

In WINDOWS 10, using EDGE, favorites are not saved to the hard drive. Maybe I just don't know where to find them.

I also tried using "CHROME" and "FIREFOX". They don't save to hard drive either.

I tried to copy the url and paste it in a folder on the hd but that doesn't work.

What I have to do, is copy the url, paste it in email and send it to myself, then go to old computer and open email in IE11, copy the url and paste it in the folder, copy it to external drive, then move external drive to new computer then copy it to new computer

When using EDGE, are the favorites saved on the hard drive somewhere? If so, where are they saved? If they are not automatically saved to the hard drive, is there a way to do this?

I really liked having my FAVORITES on the c:drive because I could make a backup copy in case something happened to original.

In Edge, the Favorites folder is now located at %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge

One of the most requested features that Windows 10 Insiders have been asking for is the addition of tabs to File Explorer. Well yesterday, for those 22 thousand+ insiders who voted for this feature, Microsoft released insider preview build 17618 that includes tabs in File Explorer as part of its Sets feature!

Windows 10 Sets is an upcoming feature where you can group documents and apps into one tabbed window that are related to the particular task at hand. This feature was released for testing to a small controlled group of insiders in Insider Preview Build 17063 and was subsequently removed after the test.

With build 17618, Sets are back and with it come tabs in File Explorer. You can now open different folders in the same File Explorer window with each one having their own tabs. This way one File Explorer window can have a tab for the pictures folder, a tab for the documents folder, and a tab for your documents, which you can easily switch between.Click to expand...

Now, while I'm not pointing the finger directly at Windows Internet Explorer 9 which I recently upgraded to from IE8, I do wonder at the coincidence that since doing the upgrade to Windows IE9, everything 'Windows' related seems to be taking forever to load into my laptop.

These include three Mail accounts in Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail [Hotmail], and the latest version of Internet Explorer.

A summary of the browser and mail account details follows, with the loading times highlighted in bold type;
Windows Mail [ 1 account ] - Version 6.0.6000.16586 (Vista_rtm.061101-2205)....takes 70 seconds, plus or minus 5 seconds to load and complete the update functions.

Windows Live Mail 2011 [ 2 accounts - and I'm not talking about going online here.....these are accessed from an Icon in my Task Tray ] - Version 2011 - Build 15.4.3508.1109....takes 90 seconds, plus or minus 10 seconds to load and complete thr update functions.

Windows Internet Explorer 9 - Version 9.0.8112.16421 (Update Version RTM KB982861)....takes 70 seconds, plus or minus 5 seconds to load, but then either freezes for a further 15 to 20 seconds, or indicates that the page needs reloading.
This is all very frustrating, and I'm left wondering if others are experiencing similar problems with the same sort of issues and similar outcomes. I also wonder if there could be some other underlying issues or set-up problems, which may cause the problems with loading that I am experiencing with things Windows.

Hello there helpful stranger,

Been using chrome as my web browser for a while and no problems. But a few days ago struck a problem that has me stumped. Sending this correspondence from my small laptop (which runs linux) but all problems refer to my Dell that runs Windows Vista 6.0 (SP1). Basically I have previously had norton 360 on the laptop but it expired some time ago and since then I have been using AVG and avast!. I kept getting an annoying message asking if I wanted to buy Norton with the only choices 'buy' or 'remind me later'. Was getting so annoyed at this coming up so I uninstalled Norton and as I hit finish in the uninstall program, all my open windows (word, chrome, powerpoint) began closing one by one and the computer reset itself. This was not too problematic but as I reopened chrome it gave me the message 'The webpage is not available'. Despite having a strong signal & connected to my usual wireless network. Tried other addresses still no good and opened IE and had the same result (Internet explorer cannot display the webpage).

Since then I have read the suggestions on other forums with similar problems and tried the following without any success;
1. Deleted the Cache and history of chrome & IE
2. Gone to internet options and LAN settings and ticked 'Automatically detect settings' and also restored advanced settings.
3. Downloaded Mozilla Firefox and installed it - 'server not found'

I am not sure I understand. Ctrl+F activates the "Find on this page" search box in Internet Explorer (IE) and funcions when you are working in the IE window, there is no setting up required for this.

A right click on the IE icon for a "Find on this page" in the context menu will not be very useful since IE does not yet know what page you intend to look at. If you just want a search function for IE pages you can use the search box on the taskbar.

I have a new laptop with Windows Vista. In Windows Media Player, it says that when I listen to a song on the internet it will automaticallly be added to my Library. This is not happening. The option to add songs automatically under the Player tab is checked. What can I do to fix this issue so that songs are added? Or how can I manually add songs that I find on the internet? Thanks!
