I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I had broken a screen, and had to replace it. The screen was broken, but the backlight worked fine. After replacing, the backlight doesn't work. I can see the screen itself works (when I highlight it with a flashlight).I've reconnected the old screen (cracked one) but the backlight doesn't work anymore here.  I did the replacement with the laptop being turned off, but the battery was inside.I also had a bit of hard time peeling up the connector from the old screen (it has been glued really solid). Could I have broken the connector? If it's not the connector (I'll try with the new cable soon) what else can it be?I know the older laptops had inverters and fuses. I believe this one has LED backlight. If so, there's no inverter, but are there fuses?

Hi fellow lenovians. Inspired by numerous posts on the Internet on how to replace the LCD on T520 I decided to do a similar surgery on my machine. My Lenovo T520 came with a 1366x768 screen, a LP156WH4 (TL)(BL1) which uses LED as backlight and I wanted 1920x1080 instead. I searched ebay for "B156HW01 V.4" and ended up ordering this one. In hindsight I should have paid more attention to the word compatible in the item description because the monitor I received was a Chimei N156HGE-L21. I'm wondering how the seller defines "B156HW01 V.4 compatible". Funnily, according to the ebay link it uses CCFL  as backlight while the Chimei seems to be using LED as backlight ? which is fine since the original LCD uses LED too. Disassembling the old LCD and mounting the new one was very easy. However, upon switching laptop on I get exactly the same experience as this guy: The laptop turns on, there is backlight, the harddisk is running but the screen is blank. I can use the Fn + brightness up / down buttons to increase the lightning, but even with a strong flashlight I don't see a faint of the Windows splash screen on the LCD. If I put the old LCD back then everything's fine - except it's not the new one...  Now, before returning the LCD I'm wondering if there's anything I should try? There's backlight so I don't think it's the inverter. I can almost only imagine the LCD being faulty?

A:Lenovo T520 replacement LCD - there's backlight but blank screen

There is no inverter with LED backlight.  As inverter converts direct current to the AC needed by a CCFL. You have no inverter so the fact that your backlight comes on means the new screen has an LED backlight.  A CCFL scxreen would have a separate backlight connector, typically a 2-wire plug with one pink and one white wire.  Make sure the cable is making a good connection, otherwise, I would assume the new screen is bad.

I have a T520 with Intel Centrino 6205 network card. I have ability to run Win 7 and Win 10. With Win 10, both 2.4 and 5Ghz SSIDs are available. With Win 7, I only see the 2.4 GHz SSID. I use Win 7 most of time, so would like to get this to work. The driver for the Centrino card appears to be 15.13.0.1 dated 22July2014. When I try and update from the Device Manager, it goes into an endless on-line search. Looking at this site, three driver options come up, but the numbers don't look like the one that is installed. The Intel Proset software version is 17.12.0 dated 2Oct2014. Questions:Is there a way to switch on the 5Ghz band in settings somewhere? If it is a driver problem, how to I find the correct driver?

My sister dropped her T410 and cracked the LCD screen, which clearly was not covered under the basic warranty.  The $950 quote for repair was a little steep (basically the cost of the laptop) so we decided to try a repair ourselves.  I replaced the LCD screen with a model suggested by the Lenovo rep.  With the new screen in place, the backlight doesn't function at all (can see information on the screen with a flashlight but otherwise nothing).  I also put the old screen back in (which previously was backlit despite being cracked) and observed the same problem.  I made sure the LCD cable was seated firmly at both ends. Considering things as they stand now, my question is about the best route to take from here.  As I understand it, since the LED backlight is powered by the system board, we either buy a new system board or use this laptop as a "desktop" attached to a standalone monitor.  Replacing the LED sub card seems questionable for this particular problem (saw another post here with that conclusion).  We could replace the LCD cable, but it seems to me more likely that the fuse on the motherboard is blown.  If it comes down to motherboard vs. desktop use, we'll probably avoid the motherboard replacement since it is somewhat expensive. Am I missing any obvious ideas?  Should I consider replacing the LCD cable more seriously?  Is the LED sub card more relevant to the LCD/backlight than I think?  I'm hoping t... New to the forum so Hello everyone.

I understand how to turn down the level of brightness through backlight control but how do I decrease the level even further? The slider in the brightness bar is all the way down (left) yet at nights the light from backlights are too bright!

Couldn't someone please help me out?

Dimming is an option but it still doesn't decrease backlight.

A:Backlight - Decreasing backlight Level more

let's see: there should be backlight and brightness adjustments on the monitor, plus contrast which does affect final light output somehow, plus all those except backlight should be duplicated inside video drivers on your computer and gamma on top of that. If it's a laptop then there should be some combination of Function key and arrows to adjust backlight directly. If you can't get the screen dark enough with all those controls, could be something wrong. If controls are too limited and your environment is totally dark then buy anti glare screen protector, that usually cuts the light coming out probably at least by half.

Hi guys, Tom from England here.

Just thought i would sign up and see if any of you computer literate people could help me fix, or give any guidance on the problem i have encounted.

The problem is this, i can see the picture very very dull on the laptop screen. It just went dull once while i was using my machine and i restarted it and it came on fine, it then went on to do the same at a later date and when restarted it does not come on. It appears to either have a broken backlight, or a sleep related error/problem.

Following this I decided to plug it into mydesktop monitor where it seemed to be okay, during the startup and windows load screen, then when the log in menu should appear it went blank, however making the familiar windos start up noise. I tested it on my tele as i know that the television worked before when using it as the laptop monitor however the same error occured. Which leads me to believe its a sleep button issue. To test this theory i plugged in my brothers laptop into the TV and pressed the sleep button that would be pressed when the screen is closed and it not only dimmed the laptop screen but also the TV.

I located the sleep button under the laptop screen bevel and found it to be slightly damaged, so i changed the power options in the control panel to disable sleeping when the lid is closed but to no prevail.

The make of my laptop is Fujitsu Siemens, its Amilo and the operating system is Vista.

I bought a second-hand Satellite C50-A-157 some months ago and it's worked fine until recently however; recently the screen went really dark and dim. I decided to strip the screen assembly to see if I could find the problem. When I removed the bezel I found a screen, camera and assorted cables but no inverter so, assuming the problem lay with the screen, I ordered an identical replacement screen and, as a precaution, I ordered a video cable.

The problem is, after replacing both screen and cable, I'm back to square one, dark screen. I've searched on line and studied the motherboard but I can't find anything resembling an inverter or any reference to this machine actually having an inverter online.

Any advice/input/suggestions gratefully received please 🙏

Hi, I have BenQ FP91G+ monitor that has stopped working. When I turn it on, the light for power led changes (turns green?) color but there is nothing on screen. When I hold flashlight sideways, I can see the display. It happened with when the screensaver was on and after few minutes it went black so I thought it has gone to standby mode. Thinking its in sleep mode, I hit the keyboard button and soon after I could smell burnt electricity.

I have opened the board and checked the power supply and inverter but everything is all intact visibly. The capacitors has not even bulged a bit. Does anyone know what might be faulty?

Thanks in advance.

Right, so this isnt my laptop, its my step dads and hes not here with it right now so I cant check it to find the exact model, but its a compaq. Recently the lcd backlight went funny and wouldnt come on, occasionally people with the magic finger have been able to push the button that the screen pushes down when shut to turn the light off and it will come on and stay on till you close it or hit the button but generally when you press the button it will come on for a few seconds and turn back off, this led me to beleive that its simply a problem with the button that could be easily fixed. He took it to circuit city tonight (which is why its not here) and they told him its the LCD and would cost 400-600 dollars to replace, I dont see how its the LCD itself when the light comes on after pressing the button down sometimes and you can actually tell the lcd is displaying the stuff because if you look carefully you can see the screen its just not lit up. Can anyone tell me if we should just take circuit cities word or seek another opinion?

You could have a loose connection on the MOBO. You don't say what model or brand it is. Yes to replace the LCD is expensive, you can do it yourself and save money. It's not that hard to do..

On my 6 month old Lenovo G50 yesterday, the screen went completely black. I turned my laptop off and on again and as I was turning it off it displayed 'Please Wait' like normal. When it came back on I could faintly see the 'Lenovo' launch logo. When it would usually ask me to sign in, I had to shine my phone torch at the screen to see the image.I looked it up on a forum and one user suggested tapping on the back of my laptop to see if the screen would come back on and it did. The backlight turns off whenever the hinge is moved but can always be 'fixed' by almost bending the display towards me.  This is the second problem I have had with this type of laptop as my first one that I got at Christmas wouldn't even boot up so we had to return it. Is there any easy fix?  It's also still under warranty but I don't have time to send it away as I am a college student who requires it for work and I will also shortly be using it to make a promotional video for a company.

Ive had this laptop for 3 months now in this state, and I just cant get it fixed.
The backlight isnt working. When I turn it on, I can just about see a picture, but there is no lighting. I have replaced the backlight with a brand new one, still nothing. I have replaced the inverter board too, still nothing.
The only thing I can think of now is the flex cable, but there is the problem. I cant find anywhere online to buy one, ebay is the only place that have but they are all for Dell laptops.
Anyone know where I can get a flex cable online?
Or could this be something else thats causing the backlight to not turn on?

Second thing is when I plug the laptop into my computers monitor. I turn the laptop on, and the monitor shows the big Samsung logo, then I see a quick flash of the POST screen, and the monitor turns back off, with the laptops screen turning on again.... and with no working backlight I cant use that screen.

Anyone got any ideas here?

Thanks,

Hi, I cannot turn on the backlight of my y410p keyboard anymore, I searched all over the net for solutions, but couldn't find anything so I'm posting here. History: - My keyboard light had worked fine for most of two years, and I kept it always on. - About 3 months ago, I tried to turn it off, and realized the Fn + Space shortcut wasn't working. Essentially the backlight was permanently on. It was ok since that's what I wanted most, but I have no idea what broke the shortcut. Since I own the laptop, I've upgraded to Windows 10, then removed the HDD to install a new SSD, and then performed a clean install of Windows 10. I did this a year ago, no idea if it has anything to do with breaking the shortcut. - 2 weeks ago, the light suddenly turned off for no reason, and I couldn't turn it back on.  - Fn + Space is not working obviously. - I tried to reinstall all possible Lenovo drivers, including the Lenovo Settings App which was the only thing that had a keyboard brightness option, but switching that made no change it's always off. I'm not sure if a windows driver can help anyway, since the Fn + Space is not working at boot either, it has to be BIOS controlled. - I looked for options in the BIOS, but nothing (I have the latest 3.08 flashed). - I could see a red light very very very faint, I thought the keyboard led might have gone out or something, so  I ordered a new replacement keyboard. - I received a new keyboard 3 d... I am having problems diagnosing the error with a notebook LCD display inverter.Symptoms: After switching the notebook on, the LCD backlight comes on but the intensity oscillates rapidly (flickers). After about 1 second the backlight turns off completely. Once the backlight has turned off, the AC output of the inverter measured with a DVM is 0 Vac.I visually checked the inverter board and there are no obvious faults.Given the symptoms, can anybody venture a guess at the problem? On the one hand I am tempted to say that the backlight is ok (after all it ignites) and the problem is more likely to lie with the inverter. On the other hand I am wondering whether the flickering of the bulb (faulty bulb?) causes a open-circuit protection of the inverter to kick in after 1 second. So in summary I am not quite sure whether the fault is more likely to lie with the bulb or the inverter.

Hi makhloofy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The way it shows fine on the external isolates the issue with the LCD panel itself.

Possibility of hardware failure is apparent specially if display goes on /off when changing the angle of the lid as if the cable connection is being changed or the LCD backlight is not ok and also having the same issue in the BIOS.

Best to call in technical support for possible service (inwarranty repair) else reseating LCD connection may help.

Hope this help answer your query.

I just bought this Gateway MX6440 laptop just over a month ago, otherwise I would have taken it back and exchanged it. But now I have a problem with the backlight. If the notebook is plugged into AC power, everything works fine. But if I unplug the ac and go to battery, the Backlight goes out. The notebook is still running and I can see that the display itself is still working as i can see everything but not well without the backlight. Now, if I plug the ac back in, the light doesn't come on automactically. i have to close the lid and open it up again for it to work. If i boot the computer up on battery, the backlight comes on for about 1 second and then goes out. Hello everyone.

The problem is as follows:

I took apart my G751JY down to the last bolt, however when I put it back together the screen was not working. The external monitor works but the LCD screen remains black. Tried holding the power button for 20 - 45 - 60 seconds, does not help. Tried unplugging/plugging in the screen - does not help. Took apart the screen nothing special there. Took apart the laptop again, and on the bottom of the mobo found out that a certain part was fried (see pictures)
The screen is black/does not show signs of life, however when pointed at with bright light I can pick up details.
What caused the problem? (my thought) -When taking the laptop apart i disconnected screen prior to disconnecting the battery (since the battery is internal I unhooked the LED screen connector first and only then saw the battery connector - my mistake I know).

The only problem is the LCD backlight, everything else works great - GPU,CPU, RAM, charging etc. Just the backlight does not.
I need your help to figuring out what kind of part is this and if it is possible to fix it? I know its hard to pick it out from pictures but maybe someone has seen this before. Any ideas will help! Thanks!

I'm seeing this on 6 different systems all running the same version of Ultimate (Different CD keys, installed from a USB key after making a copy from an original Ultimate disc i bought, tho one machine used a different copy and still has the same problem).

I've looked around and apparently it's a known issue on Windows 7 that the backlight wont turn off when powersave is activated, has anyone got an actual fix for this? I've seen a few utilities around that turn the screen off properly for you, but they need to be manually turned on which defeats the purpose of a timer.

I have exactly the same issue. Unfortunately I have not yet found a fix though.

The screen was shutting down properly, backlight off fully etc, until I upgraded my graphics card about a week or so back. I had been running an nVidia 8800GT and with that card I never had an issue. Screensaver ran, then after the prescribed period the screen shut off completely.

I upgraded my GFX card to an ATI 5850, and also changed my Antec PSU for a beefier Nexus 630W item, and since then I have been having this problem. Screensaver runs, but instead of the screen fully powering down after the relevant time, it just goes black and the backlight remains lit.

I can only assume that the change of GFX card has somehow brought about the change, as it was fine up until then.

What kind/make of card are you running in your machine count123?

Hi,

I recently turned on my laptop and the screen was black. After a while when it booted up, the screen came on as normal and then flashed out about 10 seconds later. I can shine a torch on to the screen when it boots up and see windows and everything but it's obviously too dark to use. I replaced inverter and lcd panel but the problem remains...

How should I go about fixing this?

Sooooo.... I'm working on a free hand-me-down laptop. Had a hard drive problem, which I fixed and happened to find 4GB of RAM to toss into it... and what do ya know, the screen starts messing up as soon as I fixed it...

The laptop is not very old so I would like to fix it... onto my problem.

The screen sort of "flickers" and "moves around" and also has a pink tint to it every once in awhile. The screen is this way as soon as I power on the laptop, and having it plugged into the wall proves no difference. Another strange thing is, if I leave it on, after about 5-10 minutes its works perfect, but only for about 15 seconds, then back to like the picture above.

- Tried hooking it up to my desktop monitor, works great.
- Took this thing apart, checked the all of the wire connections, seem to be solid and fooling with them with the lappy on did no justice. I'm stumped basically.

So now I'm wondering, backlight or inverter?

EDIT: Oops forgot the laptop info
Acer Aspire 7520-5071
17" Dual-Core 4GB RAM
Any comments/help?

Thanks in advance,
-Shook
--------------UPDATE----------
So I tried an inverter.... no fix
Noticed that while messing with the video cable to the LCD made the screen go in and out.....
Ordered a new LCD cable.... no fix
Sooo I made a short video

A:Acer Laptop Screen Problem-Inverter or Backlight

Normally when the backlight goes out, it will affect the full screen. It can flicker or go out completely. This can be checked with a flashlight held up to a text area on screen and looking for the contrasting image on the LCD. From the way you describe the working then stopping, it sounds to me like the inverter is building up a charge then letting go.
