Any way to force IE9 to assume a subdomain?

Q: Any way to force IE9 to assume a subdomain?

If I disable "search from address bar" in IE9, attempting to visit http://uncg.edu results in a 404 error. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, however, works fine. I can omit the subdomain from some websites (such as http://sevenforums.com), but others simply won't allow me to. Also, http://uncg.edu simply opens a search engine if I have "search from address bar" enabled.

Preferred Solution: Any way to force IE9 to assume a subdomain?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Any way to force IE9 to assume a subdomain?

I think that it depends on what data is stored by DNS servers for that address. This in turn depends on the information provided to them by webmasters. Perhaps John (z3r010) might be the one to ask here, as all 3 of his sites exhibit this behaviour.

I purchased a domain name. I have a dynamic ip and so I needed to use a sub domain or a secondary domain. I Have done this. When I enter the address into my browser it brings up my router settings page. I would like to eventually be able to access files on my server through this address and then eventually have a web site reside on my server. What do I do next on my way to being able to do this. Here is the address.

Hey, not quite sure how to explain this,
but if im supporting one of my friends computers via RDP using his ip 81.x.x.x, i have to check my email each time because i can't remember it...

I have a Windows 2003 Server linked to my domain, domain.com.

is there a way i can put, something like john.domain.com into RDP and it will recognise that as 81.x.x.x?

I thought of using DNS to create a record but not sure which i need/should use?

Does anybody understand what i'm looking for, and even better know how to do it?

Would be great if you could!!

Thank you!

Hi,

I've registered a domain through lcn.com, previously I've just modified the nameservers to point to a shared hosting account.

I'd like to know how to keep www.domain.com pointing to this shared hosting account and create a subdomain my.domain.com which points to a new dedicated server of which I have the ip address.

I believe I have to add an (A) address record on my lcn account, I have hostname and ip address fields here, could anyone help me out and tell me how to set this up?

Thanks

Hello,

Can someone tell me how to create a subdomain? We currently have a domain.

Here's what I'm trying to do:
We are hosting a website with pictures (images) on a server but in order to server those pictures online I need to create a subdomain and link it to the images server. On what serverdo I create the subdomain? I'm guessing on the primary domain server and enter the IP address to the Imager server (the one with the pictures).

How do I do this, now I never done this before so I need step by step intructions.
Thanks,

Hi guys!

I have question regarding when to use subdomain and when to use A record under main domain?

e.g. I have main domain ABCD.com. I want to create record EFGH.ABCD.com that points to IP address 1.2.3.4. From my point of view I have to options:

1) Create host A record under main domain ABCD.com that points to the IP address 1.2.3.4 - host (A) record EFGH.ABCD.com=>1.2.3.4

2) Create EFGH as subdomain of main domain ABCD.com and then under that subdomain create host A record (without Name field) that points to IP address 1.2.3.4

If I create EFGH record as subdomain of main domain ABCD.com I can have separate MX, NS, SOA... records but if I create my record as host A record under main domain then MX, NS, SOA records from main domain are used.

The question is when to use records as host A records and when to use it as subdomain of a main domain?

Thanks!

I'm at the "manage dns settings" at network solutions and I see where I can create a subdomain, but it requires that a subdomain point to a numeric IP... I would like my subdomain "lostandfound.mervisdiamond.com" to point to "mervisdiamond.com/found" What numeric IP should I use in this case? Clearly I can't use the generic IP for the site.

Alternatively, I have no problem with the entire Lost and Found actually hosted at the subdomain. In this case how can I move the directory of code to the subdomain, and not in the folder mervisdiamond.com/found

This is my first time posting here and I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

There are some Japanese flash game websites on a domain called web.fc2.com. I can access some but not others, getting a timeout error.

I can't get to ancho.web.fc2.com and detarou.web.fc2.com . I can get to pi3141592c147.web.fc2.com and yoinouchi.web.fc2.com . I've pinged all four and get very similar results - I know 'similar' is not 'exact' but I am not techy enough to read/understand ping results.

A possibly relevant pair of messages I get from pinging via dnsstuff.com are
- The destination appears to block unwanted UDP packets.
- There appears to be a firewall at <ip address> (hop 1) that blocks unwanted TCP packets.

Both my windows xp and my ubuntu box have the same problem, so it's not a hosts file issue or a system based blocking software. Might be my router?

Thank you...

Hi,
Can someone tell me how to make a subdomain in apache. I need to make subdomain.mydomain.com go to 'C:/www/subdomain'. I think I have to use Virtual Host, except when I do this it also affects the main domain (mydomain.com documents root goes to c:/www/subdomain, instead of c:/www.) I think I have to make an A record on my DNS server, except what do I have to add to my conf file?

I only have one IP (i think that matters)

So... Before anyone tells me to send it to Logitech for repairs, I should mention that there are none that I know of in my area, and I'm not willing to pay R300 (ZAR) postage to send a big box 600km away to get my wheel 'checked'. Other than that, it's already nearly 3 years old and way out of warranty...

Now, onto the finer details. The force feedback suddenly stopped working one day a few months back. There was no funny smell or smoke or unusual amount of heat, etc.. Anyways, long story short: I suspect the motor is the culprit here, I can't see any damage or burn marks on the IC boards..

A Google search for the details on the side of the motor returns nothing even remotely related to Logitech or electronics in general, so I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here.

The * above is a symbol, almost like a logo, but I don't recognise it... I've redrawn it in Paint (see attached), perhaps someone else knows it...? Other than that, I've also attached a photo of the motor with a CD beneath it for a size reference.

I don't play racing games enough to warrant buying a new wheel, and everything else on the wheel still works, I simply don't have any force feedback and the wheel obviously doesn't center itself anymore (no springs, all done with the motor). The game will actually open two instances of itself, I will be able to play in the one that pops up but when I click on the Exit button there is still a instance on the start bar. I have to maximize that then it goes back into the game which at that point I have to click the exit button again and then the program is closed.

I checked on Novalogic's web site support and even emailed them but no resolve either way.

I am usually really good. I go to no sites on my computer that could potentially do this to me. However, I let my girlfriend use my computer a couple of times last week and every since things have been getting progressively worse.

It started with general slowness on the system at startup. Despite the fact that I only allow five programs to load at startup (Dell Dock, ESET nod32, Touchpad Driver, my audio driver, and the nVidia Driver), it was incredibly slow after I typed my password into windows. It would take a full 10 seconds before ESET would appear to be loading and then that would take 10-30 seconds to go away and another 10 seconds to load the Dell Dock. Before, these things happened almost simultaneously and I could be into the system and on the internet in a matter of seconds.
After I noticed the slowness, though, another symptom began happening. The My Documents folder was repeatedly opening, even when I wasn't closing the last one. I would come back to my computer having like 100 of these open. I looked this up and it said there was a problem in my registry...however, when I went to make the changes the recommended on multiple websites, the registry was EXACTLY the way it should be...I c/p'd the stuff to be sure but it made no difference and this problem continued.
Then it stopped. It just randomly stopped, and it would come back for very short periods occasionally, but for the most part it stopped and I haven't seen it in days.

That brings us to late last... Read more

I don't know much about computers, nor do I really know where to post this, so here goes? If it's in a totally wrong area, please just point me along and I'll relocate, promise.

So, symptoms! For one thing, a tab keeps opening for "STOPzilla" without my prompting it, every ten minutes or so. I have some Spyware Doctor thing in one corner (I didn't download, install, etc), I have "Windows Security Center!" (which looks shifty to me, like woah) and it pops up ALL the time. This is damned annoying, but not actively harmful. The part that really pisses me off is the lagging, and the programs. In fact, the "Security Center" keeps popping up, even when I tried going into safe mode and seeing what I could see. So did the "Doctor". I am highly suspicious of these guys.

I can't run any program without using circular logic. Let's say I'm trying to run Firefox from my Desktop: I double-click my icon, and am given an "Open With" menu. Whaaaaat. If I select to open firefox "with Firefox", I can sneakily open my web browser, which will then attempt to save and open the file. It will fail. This technique also works for opening word processing and graphics programs, and a couple others, but it's sort of limited.

I can't install or uninstall anything at all. I tried to install CCleaner, because I remembered that I had it on my last laptop, and I can download the setup file fine. But wh... Read more

Three times in the last month my system has simply shut itself down abnormally and rebooted, right in the middle of whatever I was doing.

Upon restarting it informs me that windows has just shut abnormally (duh) and do I want it to do a diagnostic and repair.

Given that the alternative is go pick posies, I say yes. It takes quite a long time (20 or 30 minutes?) but eventually it is running as if nothing had happened.

So:

Is this more likely a hardware problem or a software problem? Either way, will it help to kick the computer in the shins? If not, what?

The trusted installer has the ownership of some of the vital systems. That is what the prior owner had, at purchase. Hi all,
These are the problems i am experiencing as best as i can describe them.
From what i can see my internet is running at usually less than 1/4 of its normal speed though this occassionally alternates to full speed or down to 1/10. The problem was fixed slightly after running trendmicro housecall, after this speed went back and also some other things on the computer started functioning again such as being able to copy and paste. From previous scans i would come up with 5 pieces of spyware from using trendmicro scan though even though it supposedly removed them they would still reappear in consequent scans. Recently it has begun to freeze while scanning for spyware. Presently scanning with Ad-Aware will post its results after this. Also speed is back down to 1/4 normal speed i also have a log file from hijack this and will attatch it to my post. Sorry if this wasnt overly descriptive and i hope it can help you in diagnosing and aiding me.

The first problem I noticed with my PC is that it was all of a sudden freezing for no apparent reason and not when I was doing anything specific. Happens during games, youtube videos, or just when I am surfing the net. When it freezes like this I can sometimes CTRL-ALT-DEL and get the task manager window to pop up however the mouse then freezes, leaving me without any other option other then to hit the power button to restart. Sometimes I will hear a long beep coming from the mother board right before I hit the button to restart. This happens every few times.

Not long after the freezing issue I noticed that I started getting this weird popup as soon as I got to desktop saying "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fullfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client." I have never used Outlook to send a message so have no idea where this is coming from but have since stopped it.

My windows live messenger has stopped working and I am getting an error message stating that the image icon is bad and to check it against my installation disk. Sorry didn't take note of exactly what it says but something very similar to that.

I have gotten a black screen with this error about three times in the last two days "81k/154 Hz Frequency is out of Range" This seems to go away if i restart the pc.

I hope this can get cleared up... it's not something I've come across before (I'm trying to fix a relative's computer).

Basically, I don't know how it started out, but now the computer is extremely slow (and I mean EXTREMELY). The computer seems to work fine besides it being slow for about five to ten minutes, and then the real problems start to happen. The computer doesn't allow me to do anything. I try to open my computer, nothing comes up. Nothing opens. No window that's already open will maximize again. And if I go to try to restart or shutdown, "You do not have permission to shutdown this computer." or a similar message for restarting. I really am unsure of what's causing this, but hopefully you guys might. I'd really appreciate any help. =]

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and hoping I can get some help with my secondary XP system.

I really don't know much about the virus game, even though I've mostly been able to resolve stuff in the past by myself. This problem, however, has me stumped.

I'm pretty sure I had a bunch of viruses, including one that was popping up a "Blank Window2/hello4" window on start-up but which I think has been resolved. Now I just have a variety of problems that I can't nail down.

When I start up my XP system it seems to run more or less normally, but when I try to run Avira Antivirus Personal it won't complete a full system scan, or perhaps I should say that it will get to the point that it shows a window listing the detections, I can choose what I want to do with them, but when I say apply and that window closes, avira just hangs there and I can't close it. So that's one problem.

Another problem is that, after using the system for a while, suddenly programs won't open. I'll get an hourglass for a few seconds but then it goes back to the arrow cursor and nothing happens. This happens with everything, including the Task Manager. On occasion, the Control Panel window will open but I'll just get the magnifying glass going back and forth and the items in the panel never load. Also, once this problem starts happening with the programs not opening, I can't shut down Windows. I can bring up the shut down / restart buttons f... Read more

A:Various problems that I assume are related to viruses

I see one problem right off the bat. we dont advise using anything that cleans or boosts registries.thats definitely going to cause problems.if you think you have a virus see if you can ask a moderator or advisor for more assistance to see if it should be moved to the virus forums.

with my motherboard if my old 6600 gt was compatible? i dont know what motherboard i have. yes? no?

A:can i assume that a geforce 8600 gt will be compatible...

No, you cannot make that assumption. The 8600 is a PCI-E card while the 6600GT comes in both PCI-E and AGP. You will need to know what kind of graphics card controller your motherboard has, PCI-E x16 or AGP 8x/4x.

You can find out what motherboard model you have by bringing up the Start > Run box and typing "dxdiag" without the quotes and hit Enter.

A:BSOD-Driver Issue I Assume?

I suspect hardware, most probably ram.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Quote:
The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.

Been helping a lot of customers and I hear it all. They almost always say its their ISP. They refuse its is their computers or router. Agressively refuse to try a direct connection into their modem. Not even knowing the speed they are paying for exactly.

So at what point after you have tried everything to figure out what is causing speed/wireless issues do you assume it must be the ISP?

Then how do you convince the customer as well?

After I have usually tried all of this:
Running netstat -b 5>activity.log to get a list of connected programs.
Running sfc /scannow
Checking the signal strength
Broadcasting the SSID
Disabling the firewall
Clearing the browsers
Checking for virsuses and spyware
Attempting a direct connection to the modem
Checking physical connections
Error Check under my computer
Defrag
a few registry fixes...

Then my way of showing proof are with several speed test like on speakeasy.com and testmy.net.

How about you?

A:At one point do you assume its your ISP causing slow speeds?

It is the ISP most of the time.
Many times the ISP signal is reduced by the number of computer on the connection in that neighborhood...
The slick thing so many ISP's are now doing is connecting new customers at 1.5 Gbps... which quickly reduces to 70 or 80 kbps... We see ComCast as low as 72 when they promise 1.5...
There are sells who promise 4 Gbps who are only providing 2.8... then divide that down...

Take a close look at what they are really providing, and how much that signal drops when the neighborhood is online... Examine Comcast, Dkaota, Cox, Verizona, Netzero, AT&T, Starband, WildBlue, Charter, Earthlink, AOL, Qwest, Covad, AOL, Earthlink...
All or nearly all of them are NOT providing what they promise when you test them with accurate equipment... They cannot... the demands are simply too great...

Threaten them and they drop your customers... look at the fine print in the contract.

This is a major issue that will only get worse, and in out area of US, Mexico, Arizona Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon, they are all liars... intentionally....

It will not change until users raise hell.

Test using accurate eqjuipment then faise a fuss, and ti will co up... for a while.

So this has been an ongoing problem I've had on my laptop for the past few months and I cant stand it anymore. My wifi is fine, my phone loads everything with ease, but my laptop is another story. Whenever I try to download something of a relatively large file size or am browsing along too long on a site, sometimes playing a game on multiplayer, my laptop will suddenly stop connecting to the internet. It will say it's connected but nothing will load, and things like skype and steam stop working online. It may just be the driver's that my laptop uses being out-dated, but the thing is whenever I try to update them, they just stop working dead in their tracks. If someone can help me out here, this would be so amazing. Thanks in advance!

Title is fairly self explanatory, and I've attached my BSOD action report. I'm not sure WHAT update is causing this constant crashing (updated several things at once), but I *think* it's Adobe. If an expert could read this report and give me any insight, I would be much obliged. Thank you!!

A:Constant BSOD due to what I assume is Adobe update, but not sure.

Various different bugchecks are there, which may be an effect of memory corruption.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Let us know the result. A camera snap of the memtest86+ screen before closing the program would be nice.

Also, let us know for any further BSOD.

I wanted to come here before taking my desktop computer to a technician. My homebuilt desktop computer shut down, and while trying to turn on, the computer makes it as far as the windows XP logo/loading page. After about a minute on this page, the computer finally just shuts down again.

I've tried loading the computer into safe mode, but after booting into windows under safe mode, it lasts about 30 seconds (successfully booted) before shutting down. If there is a back door way to get onto the computer to run a scan, please let me know so I can begin the process (including posting a *.txt diagnosis)

I've posted on this forum before around april of last year.

thanks.

A:computer can't even completely boot - assume virus

Hello jricthe,

Yes, there is. You'll need to create a boot disk. This file is quite large, and requires a CD/DVD burner, and a blank CD to be used on a working computer. A flash drive would be handy as well so you can save the log to post back here when completed.

UBCD4Windows --> http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...69MWJMR3_VCJ6g

You will have internet access in this environment. Download OTL to your desktop.

Double click the icon to start the tool.Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
When the scan is complete, two text files will be created, OTL.Txt <- this one will be opened in Notepad and Extras.txt, on Desktop.
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of OTL.Txt and the Extras.txt in your next reply.

So I was browsing my Twitter's feed (which I rarely do), and one particuliar tweet from Kaspersky attracted my eyes.https://twitter.com/kaspersky/status/604019327239479296Do you agree with what they say? Do you think that an user can really decide wether a source is legitimate or not? We are talking about every kind of users here, from beginners to advanced (even neophytes). Personally, I think this is true for advanced users, but for beginners to intermediate, I cannot say the same. There's just too many flaws in that statement, I don't even know where to begin and how to put it. All I can do is ask questions:Can you really trust something without basing yourself on anything? Can you really trust something without having any experience with that it's related to?Can you really trust something without knowing the consequences that can occurs if you decide to trust it?Can you really trust something that is posted on the Internet, a place where everything "exists", but not everything is true? Why wouldn't it be the user's job to decide whatever a source is legitimate or not? After all, the user is the weakest link (stealing from you quietman, sorry) when it comes to computer security. If the user fail, can the protection behind him really protect him? What if the user decides that a non-trustworthy source is legitimate, but the protection he have tell him otherwise? Who's right and who's wrong? Whose job does it becomes then? There's just so many points that are unclear in that stat... Read more

Last night I believe I got hit with the "random audio" virus. It would play long stretches of audio clips from movies, some commercials, etc.

I read through some forums looking for answers. I found a reply that stated if you disconnect from the internet and you're still hearing audio chances are it's not a virus but instead an issue with your browser loading audio from another source. I disconnected and the audio stopped instantly and has no audio played sense.

Last night I ran a full Malware Bytes scan, along with a full AVG Scan. Both returned no threats. I'm just worried that it's a hard to detect virus/trojan (main fear is that a keylogger is present and it will try to steal my email/poker passwords), but with the steps I described I'm starting to think I'm fine.

Ok, I read your requirements for posting in this section, however, my pc seems to keep freezing when I attempt to run that GMER program. Not sure what to do about this but am including the DDS.txt in this post and will attach the zip file of attach.txt.

I have a Win32\Alureon.H root kit (detected by Microsoft windows malicious software removal tool). I have been unable to remove it and have had various problems which I assume to be related to the root kit. Mainly it has been windows Host Processes randomly shutting down, I have noticed no effects simply notifications from Windows. Also, on most start-ups, Windows says it cannot "connect to the User Profile Service" so I normally have to log on 3 or 4 times to get my User settings working. I have had a BSoD whilst on Skype but that has only been on one occasion. Last week my laptop would not start-up and start-up repair tool didn't function, I managed to return to the last stable setup in the F8 start-up menu (Apologies for bad knowledge of correct names for these things) and am currently running stably (ish). Furthermore, I have been experiencing browser redirection, mainly from google links or just random new tabs. All the above problems have occurred within the last month and are all (apart from the BSoD) reoccurring consistently. Any help with removal of root-kit or ideas on other causes please?

I've put Windows 7 on two older PCs:

P4A (533 MHz FSB Prescott, Socket 478) 2.8 GHz, Geforce FX5200, 768 MB RAM
Celeron (400 MHz FSB Willamette) 1.7 GHz, Integrated Graphics, 1.125 MB RAM

The former has absolutely no problems, even if Aero is running. I'm sure serious multitasking could give it trouble, but it's fine otherwise.

The second runs well with all of the eye canding disabled. The integrated graphics, unfortunately, push the processor a bit further than it would like to go. I'd put a dedicated PCI GPU in it if I knew one with low power requirements. I tried to put a PCI 8400 GS (or something of the sort; cheap nVidia PCI card), and it would POST, but failed to boot.

I've installed Windows 7 on a Duron 800M with 512 MB RAM and integrated video before, but I didn't attempt to run it. I have a feeling that it would run fine if it wasn't for the integrated video.

Why do people assume Windows 7 is very demanding? Anyone have any ideas on a low-power video card for the Celeron?

A:Is there a reason people assume Windows 7 is hardware-heavy?

probably because it is windows..... xp was demanding but no where near as bad as the suck hole known as vista. vista made me change to mac, i couldnt find a battery for my last apple notebook so ended up with this compaq cq56-115dx with windows 7 and windows 7 is a huge improvement, its still not apple quality yet.
