I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Apparently I'm only running my USB 1 ports because I keep getting these "This USB device can perform faster, click here to find a high speed USB 2.0 port" messages.

After an extensive search I've come across this, http://www.techsupportforum.com/har...p4s533-x-how-upgrade-usb-1-0-ports-2-0-a.html
Apparently this link solved someones problem, it says I need to go into BIOS and enable S1, or enabling the USB 2 somehow. But I can't seem to locate where to enable S1 or any other High Speed USB. How should I go about locating this? Your guidance would mean so very much. Thank you.

A:Enabling USB 2.0 in BIOS

John - I'm not familiar with your motherboard or BIOS, however my first suggestion would be to head over to the ASUS website (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx) and download updated drivers. There's an update under the Utilities category called "Microsoft KB817900 USB fail to enter S3 patch file for Windows XP." Try that.

I would also make sure that your BIOS is the most recent version.

Let us know if that corrected the issue.

'input not supported' would normally indicate that either the resolution or the frequensy that you have set for the card are not supported by the monitor, you can check this by starting in safe mode or in vga mode, in these modes you computer will start with the ms default drivers and settings

I got an emachines computer last year, and it came with onboard video. I bought a PCI card, and it worked just fine. I was looking for an upgrade, so I got a new AGP card. The computer will not pick up the card (and yes, it has an AGP slot), and nowhere in the BIOS can you enable AGP. Looking for a new BIOS seems to lead me in circles from site to site...and I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to messing with the BIOS.

I can hopefully give more information if needed...but at this point I don't really know what to post to help anyone.

Chipset : Intel i845GE
Mainboard : First International Computer, Inc. (VG33)

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

A:Help enabling AGP with a very limited BIOS.

In most modern mobos, just putting in that AGPcard automatically disables the onboard video.
Worth a shot. If that does not work, see if there is a jumper on the motherboard to disable onboard video.
Question: how did you get the PCIcard to work? Try the same for AGP.

Despite the warnings, I tried enabling RAID in BIOS (Intel chipset) and almost fried my Win 7 installation. So, I now believe for myself that the only way to enable RAID is to also reinstall Windows 7.

Does anyone know whether a data partition on the Windows boot drive would be affected?

Are there any clear advantages to RAID in a one-drive system? (I did not see a way to enable NCQ).

A:Enabling RAID in BIOS

I looked into old RAID technology because of the many problems it is giving with Win7 installations. It can require reformatting the drives with loss of data to set up RAID.

It also needs two drives to be RAID, I believe, as it is redundant array.

RAID is completely redundant IMO with drive imaging now even built into Windows 7. Best to set up modern AHCI config of your SATA controllers.

Just load the AHCI drivers from your mobo CD/Downloads page into the installer.

A:Enabling BIOS with Intel Mobo

It might as well be insert or F2 key that you have to press. The manual will help.

I really doubt th switch on the mobo thing. It would be ridiculous to force people to open up their computers (voiding the warranty) to change a BIOS setting.

A neat trick is to boot the computer without the keyboard to make the BIOS display an error message and tell you what key to press to get into setup.

I just bought a refurb Dell XPS 420 w/ Q9300, running Vista Home Premium x64 and downloaded/installed an activated version of Win 7 Ult x64 on an 80GB SSD [Sata1] I bought for it; dual booted w/ Vista x64 on old hard drive [Sata0].

W7 x64 was running stable and instantly fast, I wanted to enable RAID0 on the old hard drive [Sata0] and another new hard drive [Sata2]

I entered Intel Maxtrix Storage Manager (Ctrl-I), creating a RAID0 volume on [Sata0] and [Sata2].

After reboot, it says "No boot device available" after BOIS screen.

My subsequent boot attempts include (roughly in order):
1. disable RAID0 volume, boot to [Sata1]
2. disable [Sata0] and [Sata2], boot to [Sata1]
3. disable [Sata1], boot to CD/DVD-drive (W7 install/boot)
4. disable CD/DVD-drive, boot to USB flash (W7 install/boot)

I have done some digging around and cannot seem to find a solution. I have the use of my notebook (w/ broken DVD burner, still reads) running Win7 Ult x86 so apparently I cannot make my USB flash drive x64 bootable from what I've read. I also have 2-USB hard drives (80/250GB) and an eSata 2x docking station available, but no eSata on notebook.

Hope I gave enough info for someone to come up with an easy fix. If I could boot to the W7 x64 install DVD that I made with the non-booting PC, I would have just done a clean install by now, but it refuses to boot to the CD/DVD drive. It actually wouldn't even boot to DVD to install W7 x64 in the first place, I had to... Read more

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Are you able to access the Advanced Boot Options by pressing the F8 key at startup? It should list the following options:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-resolution video (640 x 480)
Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
Start Windows Normally
I'd be inclined to go for Last Known Good Configuration first.

I ordered Thinkpad p70 with RAID 1 HDD's and planned on adding aftermarket m.2 drives (Toshiba OCZ RD400) to setup an m.2 SSD RAID 1 array... First machine they sent failed to recognize m.2 drives.  Now I have a replacement machine with BIOS version 2.08 that will recognize my m.2 drives without a problem, as long as the RAID option in the BIOS is disabled.  As soon as I enable it, it only recognizes the SATA drives and the m.2 drives disappear.  It's strange that when you select m.2 SSD RAID it will only recognize SATA attached drives and allow you to set up a "m.2 SSD" RAID volume with those drives... Very disappointed I can not setup a hardware RAID array with m.2 drives.  Even more disappointed with phone support... calling in is a nightmare where they just pass you back a forth between warranty (which only deals with hardware issues) and premium software support (which says they 'don't help with BIOS, only things inside Windows').   Seems like a BIOS bug or some kind of hardware whitelisting... Does anyone else have a similar issue? I'd appreciate any insight on the matter.

Hi, We have a script using the HP BiOS Utility to change the vtx setting but we are currently experiencing problems. This script has been developped by a 3rd party and its been succesfully tested on multiple HP Models. In our environment, we are using the following HP workstations:HP Compaq 8100 Elite SFFHP Compaq 8200 Elite SFFHP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF By default, our BIOS doesn't have any password, the script will run the HP BIOS Utility with admin privilege, add a temporary password, enable the Vtx setting and remove the password. On the next reboot, we will run our software that needs vtx enable but the program will not see  that vtx is enable. If we enter the BIOS manually,  the Vtx setting will be enable, the only way that the software will recognize that vtx is enable is if we do another change to the BIOS and save that change.  It seems like Windows is not seeing the change that the BIOS utility did.  The intriging part is that on some machines, the script will work and the software will see the change. We have run the script numerous times, on multiple machines and on our different models but we can determine any patern and identify why it sometimes work. I was wondering if this is a known issue and if anyone already encoutered this. Thank you,

I just got an HP h8-1237c, which has an i5-2320 processor. I thought it was a good move, but I need to run other copies of windows in VirtualBox, which I can do fine in my old ASUS i5 computer. This one tells me I can't because I can't enable VT-x, as there's no place on the bios to do this. HP tech support was not helpful at all, and I even had to define virtualization to the tech.

Is there a way around this so I can install and run a 64 bit OS on this new PC, such as Windows 7, 64bit, or even 64 bit linux?

Thanks for the guidance in advance.

Hello, I have recently purchased Precision 3510 laptops with the intention of using them for research on Intel's new Software Guard Extensions (SGX). These laptops come with the required CPUs that support these new CPU instructions and (we thought) the required BIOS support as well.
In the BIOS for the laptops, there is an option for enabling SGX, but when enabled we are not able to install any of the official Intel SDKs on Windows OR Linux. Additionally, we ran an SGX test program that would dynamically detect the SGX features using CPUID and Machine Specific Registers (MSRs). It successfully detected the SGX hardware support (i.e. the SGX instructions are physically on the CPU chip), but it showed that the BIOS flags controlling the startup of SGX were not enabled (possible SGX specific MSRs have not been set). The specific CPU flag that needs to be set is described here: https://github.com/ayeks/SGX-hardware . Here is a quote from that page that describes what is needed for SGX to work, "The CPU and the motherboard BIOS must support SGX. SGX is turned off by default and must enabled via MSR.IA32_Feature_Control.SGX_Enable. Only the BIOS can make changes to the IA32_Feature_Control".
For reference, we are using the latest BIOS version for our model - version A07. Also, the CPU we have is the Intel Core i5 - 6300HQ CPU @ 2.3GHz.
I hope we can resolve this issue in a timely manner as we are not able to use these laptops for their intended purpose... Read more

Lenovo, it is much appreciated if you can provide an updated BIOS that allows the owner to enable/disable the hotkey function. The advantage is, that the owner can make a clean maiden Windows installation without 3rd party software, or use other operating systems such as Linux that lacks this feature of switching between the hotkey function and standard behavior for F1-F12 keys. Looking forward to this, as it gives me freedom of choice and it also is a key for buying Lenovo products future-wise. Thanks!

I foolishly enabled the options in the BIOS system configuration - Drive tab trying to make an external eSATA cable recognised my spare hard drive.
How the Dell E6230 will not boot and will not POST.
I am unable to access the BIOS to reset to default or to disable the SATA 4/5 toggles.
Is there any way to

1. Restore the default BIOS settings
or
2. Flash the BIOS from a USB or CD to get the computer to reboot.
I have discovered that the BIOS is doing something to the RAM modules
pressing FN+POWER cause the Battery LED to flash white. All other LED are BLANK
The RAM modules when placed in another E6230 then refuse to work until a memory test is carried out to wipe them!
This would go against everything I know about RAM modules not retaining information after powering off but this is what I found.
Thanks in advance.

System Specifications:- X1 Yoga (Gen 3) with i7-8650U and 16GB RAM- BIOS Version: 1.19- EC Version: 1.08 Hello, exactly one week ago, I changed enabled "Thunderbolt BIOS Assist" in the BIOS to support Linux.  Following this, the system refused to boot to anything but a black screen.  Thus, I sent the machine in for depot repair.  I just received the machine back again today and the same thing occurred after enabling the same setting.  After a long series of calls, I was told that no one is authorized to report BIOS bugs and that I should post here instead.  I sincerely hope this is fixed, as this is a major error that required a motherboard replacement previously and will most likely require one again.  I have started a new ticket for this repair and will be receiving a box tomorrow.  However, I wanted to make sure this is passed along to someone who can fix this error.

Hi,
I bought a backlit keyboard for my latitude 6420 which was only equiped with a non backlit model at the time I got it.
When hitting Fn + >, nothing happens. I read many things on the web and it looks like we have to go into the BIOS and enable the backlit. I've been told that I should find the menu under System configuration and Keyboard Illumination but I don't have this menu...
I also had a look and the hot keys and don't have the ones related to the backlit keyboard... Looking at the Control Panel, Keyboard Properties, I don't have the Backlight tab, "Keyboard Brightness".Does someone know how I can enable my backlit keyboard and have it detected as such?
Prior buying the backlit keyboard, I got in touch with the Dell support to make sure I can upgrade my notebook with a backlit model without facing compatibility issues. They told me that I just needed to order the backlit model as a spare part and it will work... but it doesn't...
Does somebody know how I can get the backlit keyboard working or is it just a bad luck and it will never work? thanks in advance for your help!

A:Missing BIOS activation menu for enabling backlit keyboard on latitude e6420

Not sure if this question has been answered but, while I came here looking for the answer I accidentally figured it out on my latitude e6410, hit the function key and the right arrow, it was lumped there with the scree brightness.

Try 62428164 Btw-unless the recovery partition is gone I would suggest booting into Recovery Manager to do the install. That will give you a clean install along with the needed drivers.http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643

You are trying to install a Genuine Windows 7, over a non-Genuine Windows 7. If YES.
1) Clean the HD Drive using the Diskpart command CLEAN ALL.
2) Install the Genuine Windows 7.

You may not need those tutorials:

Would someone from HP please send me a link to the latest BIOS for the 15-ba009dx notebook? The support website seems to be way behind.  It has BIOS F.13 and my system is at F.17. The HP support assistant doesn't show a BIOS update is available, but then again it doesn't show most of the availalbe hardware driver updates for this particular model. Thanks.

A:BIOS for 15-ba009dx notebook

Hi,   I'll not recommend to update BIOS unless it is said to rectify previous error/faults, it improves performance of the system, it provides additional functionality to the machine.  Do not update BIOS via HP support assistant software. If you do BIOS update without proper precautions you would very well brick your notebook.  F.13 A is the latest one listed, may be F.17 was taken off due to some issue in it.   Regards  Visruth
