Print Documents on predefined Printer ( not System Default ), how?

Q: Print Documents on predefined Printer ( not System Default ), how?

Hi there!

Question:
Is there a way to have a Document to be printed on a predefined Printer NOT beeing the System Default one?

Let me explain:
We're using an Excel that needs to be filled with Information which then fills the gaps in a special designed Paper we used with our old Printer.

As of recently we aquired a 2nd Printer ( System Default ) which is having problems with the special Paper so we have to use the old one but the one person which handles this work is a little overwhelmed when it comes to switching Printers.

( I know... it's just one click but meh... )

Thanks in advance for any help ?:}

Preferred Solution: Print Documents on predefined Printer ( not System Default ), how?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dell Picture Studio Image Expert for Image Editing

Whenever I capture and save a pre-defined screen area image using ScreenPrint32 I am not entirely happy with the image quality.

Notice the "white spots" or "speckling" that surround most of the text as seen here in this unedited version:
I use Dell Picture Studio's Image Expert to edit my pix and again I mention that the image above is unedited or resized it's 1:1....this condition exists when I first view the image after saving into Image Expert and prior to using UploadIt! So, it would have nothing to do with the UploadIt! Image Hosting process.

If I want to resize the image from, in this case, 792x143 Pixels down to a more practical 492x87 Pixels size for Forum Thread viewing, the image quality and text clarity/sharpness is even more deformed as shown in the following image.
Here I simply resized the image:

How can I optimize the image quality?
Switch to an alternate Image Editor?

Thanks for any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

I have a WPSM54G, that is the print server for my HP PSC 1315. It has become slow to print documents, and sometimes never finishes printing them. Mostly it does so on 2 or more page documents. This is sometimes true even on the copy function. Is there something wrong with the hardware? Do I need to replace one or both of those components? Or is it some software issue I can fix?

Ok, so I have an HP Deskjet 1000 printer. And I'm trying to print a Word document from my other computer, but it's not working. I checked the 'See what's printing' for that printer on the computer where I wanted to print from, and it shows a bunch of documents in queue. I tried to cancel or restart them, but nothing happens. I just get 'Error processing command'. I've already checked the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS, but there's nothing in it. I've already removed the printer and re-inserted it and it downloaded the drivers again. That all went well, but I still can't print from either computer (I have two). On the one computer where the printer is, if I try to print something, nothing happens, no documents in its queue. But from the other computer, it just keeps adding more documents to the queue and I can't do anything. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium on both of them.

My brand new HP printer works great, but I can't print any internet documents through Internet Explorer, It WILL work only through Google's CHROME. Otherwise I always get an error message. My computer is only one year old. I have stored hundreds of favorites and is organized under dozens of categories, and I need to continue using them. All of my previous printers had no problem. I hate Chrome, it states that it is "streamlined." It sure is. I have gone through several forums (HP and other forums) and other people have the same problem. I'm using IE Windows 7, HP laptop, and I'm stuck with 64 bit (somebody through a forum said there is a solution, but not 64). Please help! I don't want to return it. One person had to delete his printer driver, so it would work. I'm no expert, and I am hoping there is an easier solution. Thanks!

I recently had the same issue. Assuming your using XP just go delete everything including the ports. Then xp should plug and play or if your accessing over the network its should remote install. This is usually easier than trying to trouble shoot a connection problem.

I have an Epson SX200 Series printer and since upgrading to Windows 10 I occasionally get a strange set of symptoms:-

If I load a *.doc file I can print it OK. However, if I double click on a jpeg file and open it on the desktop and then select print......

I get the "We couldn't reach this printer" error.

Similarly, but slightly differently, if I "right click" on a jpeg file icon and select print, the printing process starts (a whirring noise) but then just feeds a sheet through and ejects it without printing anything.

By navigating to "Devices and Printers" I can confirm that the Epson has been selected as being the default printer. If I right click on it and select Printer Properties and then select the "General" tab and click on Print Test Page, it prints that OK.

I have tried uninstalling the software and removing the device and then reinstalling and making it the default printer without any success.

Any ideas?

I normally use OpenOffice- but like the light feel of AbiWord and set it as my default .rtf program. It always worked fine until recently I plugged my Brother HL-1440 laser printer into a different USB "outlet" on the computer.

That goofed everything up- until I re-installed the printer; (for every other USB appliance I have- the computer seems to make allowance- but for this printer it seems to make a difference- I can live with that).

Every other piece of software seems to accept the new default printer "HL-1440-second copy". But AbiWord doesn't seem to "get it". When I select >file >print- it shows me the print dialog--- even shows the correct default printer and tells me it is "READY"--- but it won't print too it.

I tried re-installing AbiWord-- to no avail. Same thing. I guess I could try each of the USB outlets until I find the correct one-- but somehow that seems like giving up too easily (there are 6).

I was a bit surprised to not find AbiWord listed in the Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel--- apparently it installs differently. I did re-install it over itself.

thank for your considerations,

Got some machines in our organisation are behaving strangely. When the user presses the 'Print Screen' button to capture an error message or something similar, as well as copying the image to the clipboard, it instantly prints it to the default printer.

I've asked them to close all applications to make sure if wasn't one of the behaviours of a specific program, but this also happens on a fresh reboot with no applications running. The build is the same we've rolled out to many other machines, so we're stumped as to why it's happening within this team.

Has anyone come across this behaviour before?

hello dear sir
I have the problem with my printers in my office . the printers are HP laser jet 1300 and 2035.
my problems is : After I print a document , printer does not stop and printing white papers until I stop print service or power down the printer.
whenI push ctrl+p  to print ,
some files like shockwave.shd appears in this address." c:\windows\system 32\spooler\printers". and these files never vanished unless i stop the print spooler.
I know that  : The following briefly describes the purpose
of SPL, SHD, and TMP files:

SPL files are the actual spool (print job) files.

TMP files are usually associated with LPR print jobs.

SHD files provide information about which printer the print job was sent to and from
whom the print job came. An SHD file is a "shadow" file that keeps track of what logical printer a (same number) xxxxx.spl file goes to. It also contains the file's order in the queue, the user who sent the file to the printer, and other information.
These files are usually deleted unless the logical printer settings state otherwise.
but these files  never vanished and untils these file were removed manually ,
printer cant print at all.
please help me .

(Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, HP LaserJet CP1215)

When printing from Word (or any other normal application) the documents just sit in the print queue with Status = "Error - Printing".

If I stop, then re-start the Print Spooler service, they then print.

Strangely enough, this does not happen if I print from the HP printer diagnostic utility.

I've done complete re-install of the entire printer driver suite and I'm pretty sure everything that end is OK. So what's happening with the spooler? The error message isn't exactly very revealing .

Any help gratefully accepted!

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

Hi, I just purchased an used computer with Windows 7Home Premium x64, this is an HP Slimline s5610f. The problem that I have is with a Brother HL 2040 series printer. It gave me a really hard time to install the drivers that I downloaded from the Brother website I kept getting a "0x00000057" error and "could not find suitable driver for this printer" error. Finally I decided to take the driver folders for this printer from my wife's computer and copied them to my computer and put them in the drivers repository under System32 and was able to install the printer after that with no problems.

The problem that I have right now is that the printer won't print, even though it told me that the driver installation was successful.

1-the print button is grayed out
2-If I click "printer properties" it tells me that the drivers have not been installed and asks if I want to install them.
3-If I install the drivers at this prompt it tells me that the drivers have been successfully installed.
4-Now it lets me access the printer properties but when I click "print test page" either nothing happens or it tells me that it failed to print and access is denied
5-If i close printer properties and try to access it again it tells me that the printer drivers have not been installed.

I get the same results with the printer connected locally trough USB or on another computer through the network.

I have an HP C5280 printer running wirelessly via a TP Link wireless print server and D Link Di 624 wireless router. I can print successfully from either my desktop (which is connected direct to the D Link router) or either of my laptops (wireless). However, when I select the double-sided print option I get a print error message after re-inserting the odd number pages to print the other side of the paper and then click 'continue'.

Could I resolve this by connecting the printer both direct to the desktop using USB AND leaving it connected via the wireless TP Link print server? This would enable me to print double-sided from my desktop (as I did before when the printer was only connected via the USB desktop port).

Hi there,
OK, here we go. I previously owned a Lexmark Z25 printer and up to a certain point, it was printing ok. Then it abruptly stopped printing any pages. It sounded as if it was getting the signal from the computer, but nothing would print. Rather than buy new cartridges, which would have cost more than a new printer, I bought a Dell 720. Now, the color prints fine, but I cannot get the black to print. The cartridges are just about full with only a small amount out of the black cartridge.

I read somewhere this week that it has something to do with the software. I believe there was a work-around, but for the life of me I can't remember where I saw it and I didn't bookmark the page! My other computer is WinXP, but I didn't like XP and the fact that I got hosed on the deal with only 128 RAM - never could track down the guy who sold it to me..Figures. Anyway, I now have a computer with WIN2K. I don't have the software for the Dell printer, but I downloaded the drivers from the Dell site. I do have the software for the Lexmark.

Lately, it seems I've seen Dell and Lexmark being spoken of in the same sentence - are they connected?? A LEXPPS.exe, which is Lexmark corporation, is "listening" according to my Comodo, leading me to believe that Dell and Lexmark have a lot to do with each other.

I'm sure this sounds quite like rambling on my part, but this little problem is driving me crazy right now, and while not really a newbie, I'... Read more

I'm working at an office where when you hit the Print Screen button, it causes a printout in addition to the normal copy to clipboard. I just want to copy to clipboard without wasting toner and paper. It can't be a program on the computer as it's clean with just Windows 8.1

It actually happens on all the machines (whether Windows 7, 8, or 8.1). Is it a program installed on the server? Is it a setting in Windows? How do I stop this behavior?

A:Print Screen button will print to the printer! how to stop

By definition the print screen function only sends the image to the clipboard so if the printer is also involved then something else -- some other software installed on your machine -- is the culprit here.

One way to find out what it is is by unhooking the printer and then watching the screen to see what error messages pop up when trying to use the print screen function.

I have two printers, one of which is an Epson Artisan 1430 (very new, installed with current drivers and current firmware) and one of which is a Canon iP6000D (very old, with old, unsupported drivers), and both of them frequently will not actually print anything unless I turn the printer off and back on first. The system thinks the doc went to the printer, but it's landing in the bitbucket instead. This behavior began several months ago, and was not present for at least the first several months after the 10 upgrade.

In both cases, when the symptom crops up, the system and printers may have been on continuously with no sleep, power-off or other reboot (that I know about) for as little as 4 hours since the last doc printed, or as much as several days. If the system has rebooted, the problem becomes *slightly* more likely but not certain. When it happens, usually both printers are impacted. (I have not consistently tested it, but so far it appears that when one needs a power-off/on cycle, the other will as well.) When the problem is present, a document sent to the printer pops up in the queue list barely long enough to read the job description, and then it's *gone*; the system apparently thinks it went to the printer successfully, as no error message is presented.

So far, I have found precisely zero mention of anything relevant to this problem anywhere. I've got the hyperannoying (and incredibly TJFS) "automatic printer mismanagement" feature turned off, and... Read more

Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that Windows 10 has a new feature that automatically sets your effective default printer to the last device used (unless you explicitly turn OFF the "Let Windows manage my default printer" feature). I have turned this feature OFF (and checked that it is off a thousand times (slight exaggeration).

However Windows keeps moving my default printer to my DYMO label printer. Every other day when I do a Quick Print of a WORD document it prints to my DYMO label printer instead of the printer I have set as my default (Dell 2155 laser printer) -- and spits out multiple DYMO labels with the contents of my WORD doc.

I had experienced a similar problem on work PC when Windows 10 was first installed. Our IT folks searched for a solution for 2 weeks (and yes the new Windows feature was turned OFF) but after trying several fixes they gave up and did a clean re-install of Windows 10 which fixed the problem.

With this success at work with a clean install last weekend I bit the bullet and did a full clean C Drive format and full re-install of Windows 10 (including a re-format of my C drive) but the problem is back!

I wondered if Windows was missing my turned OFF feature however when I do a test of using the DYMO Printer it does not move the default printer to the DYMO -- so at the very least the problem is not caused everytime I print to the DYMO label printer. Also, when you turn ON the "Let Windows manage my default printer" the... Read more

However, whenever we hit the print button in whatever program we're using an error message pops up and tells us that no default printer is selected. Furthermore, when I check the print dialog box the installed printer is selected in the drop down menu, but the print button in the same window refuses to light up. Sometimes documents do not always print. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts as to why this happens.

Here are the symptoms and additional clues:
(1) When this problem occurs, and I am looking at the print queue, the document will show up in the queue as "printing", the document will eventually disappear from the queue as though the document had printed, but in fact nothing was printed.
(2) So far this appears to only happen with Microsoft Office documents. Unknown whether this also happens with PDF and text files but it may.
(3) At one point, I had two Excel documents that would not print. I saved the documents in PDF format and was able to print the PDF files even though the Excel documents would not print.
(4) My Excel documents are of type "xlsx" and the Word documents are of type "docx".
(5) The problem is not the printer. I can always print test pages using the printer software on the laptop.
(6) The problem is not the printer USB cable. I tried another cable without a change to this problem.
(7) The documents that do not print have an incorrect default printer paper quality. I have a program that has trouble printing to the correct sizes, the program itself in unreplaceable and has very little in the way of print options.

Is there a program out there that can simulate a printer, automatically resize/crop/shift and send to the real printer which the problem program can print to?

I've google without success, my next step would be to write a program myself.

THANKS!

Hi Guys,

I'm getting quite frustrated with this issue and wondering if anyone has seen it, and able to resolve the issue. The issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.

Steps taken:

* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this.
* Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.
* Had a Microsoft support dude to look at the issue, but he has no idea either.

A few of my pilot users has also experience the same issue. Any ideas anyone?

How mine is set up is
In settings
Go to Printer icon
Make sure your named printer is in default.
Turn on let Window manage your default printer.

Printer - Turn On or Off Let Windows 10 Manage Default Printer

That way if your printer you named was the last one used
The next time you go to print
Your printer should appear

Hi to all.

I am having an annoing problem with shared printers.

The user that share a printer lose the default printer in any case when another user print on this shared and it turn immediatly default printer only for the user that share the printer.

The printer shared is a label printer without network port and all was working very well before this , in my opinion, unusefull improve.

All user have the " not manage default option" , win 10 pro but seems that "default option" do not effect at all with shared printers.

It is clear that is a very bad working for the sharing printer user that have to check every time what the actual default printer.

any suggestion or is it a win 10 bug ?

ciao

Windows XP SP3 on a domain network.
All users that login to this computer and try to print. It takes a long time even with documents as small as 1MB, any printer or copier on the network.
Same users log in to another PC and print the same documents with no problems on another PC.
I corrected the problem once by deleting and re-adding the printer but the problem comes back after a few days.
Here is a log that points to the driver. The same driver that works in every other PC!

Many mandatory docs, such as Federal tax forms, are only available on Adobe, so when those forms will not print, it is a serious problem. This has been happening on my computer with a variety of docs from a variety of sources in the past few weeks, but the biggest problem was today, when I was trying to print out an IRS form.

I have tried all the fixes I've seen on the Adobe forums and on the Tech Support Guys forum. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader.

Saving the forms to my hard drive sometimes works, but many come in formats that lose their integrity if they're saved to Notepad or Word. They lose their reason for being in Adobe in the first place.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or what I might do about it? I contacted Adobe and was told that they don't support the free versions. Great. So what do I do when I have to print out the IRS form?? Is Adobe tax deductible?? Is there another program I can use?

Thanks!

Maureen

A:Adobe Documents will not print

Take a look at Foxit Reader; http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/ I don't have many pdf documents to deal with but the few I do get work fine with Foxit.

If you do decide to try it, pay close attention to the installation screens so that you don't get any 'extras' you don't want or need, such as the Ask or Google toolbars etc.

I was looking in my documents and saw that odd file there kinda grayed out as if it was a hidden file with "remote desktop connection" underneth it. It says it was made on 12/1/14 at 12:33am. I've never run any sort of remote access thing. Is this anything to worry about about? Do these files appear een if I don't run anything? I've done a little googling and I can't find too much on it. Someone said to right click it and to open it as a notepad file and all the all the log information will be on it. I did that but it was completely empty. I know exactly what I was doing at that time and I don't remember ever running that or anything weird popping up. So I have no clue why its there.

A:why is default.rdp in my documents?

I did a bit of searching, too. From what I read that .rdp appears in documents when an attempt is made at a remote connection.
I think it is best to assume that happened and check for malware. Have you scanned for malware and what programs have you used?
If you are using a router then you should check to see that it is blocking remote connections and you have changed the default
name and password.
If the .rdp folder is empty that would suggest to me that the phantom attempt was not completed.

I had a Print Server EUSSO that connected with my old deskjet printer (HP deskjet 845c USB) to my knowledge it working fine...

Though I had bought a new printer (HP laserjet 1020 USB) hook it up to a Print Server but to my amazement, I couldn't get it to work (it working fine, if plug direct to PC)... I set it the way I worked with the old deskjet (HP deskjet 845c USB) and I don't see why it didn't work... Or maybe the Print Server do not support the new Printer? I had visit HP support site, and they just didn't give me any good solution...

Note: upon completing the setup and do a test print; I notice there aren't any error messages display... I see a queue of file on the Printer Document Name last for 2 seconds and dissappear, No errors messages...
But if I try to change the port name/number it will display error message upon printing, and the file on the Printer Document Name didn't dissappear either...

I am so curious why it didn't work?
1. I know it not the printer fault
2. Print Server is not malfunction either (unless it not meant to support my new printer)
3. Not the cable either
4. I don't see any wrong doing with my setup, since I got the first one work and running
5. Now I am sitting duck

Any feed back on this issue would gladly be appreciated...

A:Print Server won't print on new printer

Did you install the drivers for your new printer? (Obvious, sorry, but I have to ask) Best bet would be to uninstall all printers and printer software you have and start over from scratch.

The print server doesn't have to support your printer - all it does is take the data sent by your computer and forward it to the USB port. Your printer however has to support the print server. Some printers require a bidirectional connection with the computer and that cannot work over the network.

Does your print server suppirt several types of connection? It could be any combination of LPR, SMB, JetDirect and any proprietary protocols. Try something else than you are using right now.
