I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Title kind of says it all. I've lost the back set of rubber feet on my 1st gen Helix and it's starting to strach the bottom up and the laptop slides pretty easy now. Where can I find replacement or is it even possible?

A:Replacement feet for 1st gen Helix

I don't have the part to look at, but the rubber feet are usually part of a base misc. part kit. For the Helix, the number is 04x0526

Hi Guys, The fan on my laptop had been making an insane amount of noise and the computer had been overheating and shutting down for quite some time.  So finally I took the liberty to order a replacement part from Ebay.  The disassembly was a breeze, the part fit in perfectly and reassembly wasn't bad either.  But when I tried to power up, the fan would spin for a few seconds and then shut down, nothing on the screen.   So by process of elimination, I figured out that if I left the cable connecting the bottom accessories to the motherboard disconnected, it worked fine.  Fan is spinning correctly, no overheating issues.  Of course that leaves with no functioning docstation essentially.  I cannot use the speakers, USB or even the power source from the docking station.   Any ideas here?  Is there a specific pattern that I am supposed to reconnect the cables?  I am attaching a picture with the cable circled in red just for references.  Thanks!

Hello Community I have a ThinkPad Helix (1st Gen) N3Z6CGES running Windows 10. Bought it back in 2013.Long time i was very happy with the device. Smaller issues, no big deals.Among others: Some static Windows control buttons burnt into the screen. Therefore, in September 2017 I decided to give it to a certified dealer, before my ThinkPlus service runs out. They changed the screen and since the Helix has this new screen, I have the same problem as it is seen in this video:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 freaking around... [YouTube]Exept for my phantom touches only occure in the lower corners of the screen. Which doesn't make it any better, though.Rebooting gives me a break for a few minutes, but then it start again out of nowhere. Sadly, for some time, after the repair i haven't used the notebook at at all, so I didn't realize there is this problem.During this time, of course my ThinkPlus Service and the warranty for the device run out. But then again I needed my notebook very urgently, saw the problem and didn't have the opportunity to give it to repair again.I improvised and turned off the touch screen in the Device Manager. I could only use the digitizer, but at least i was able to work with the Helix. Few days ago there was a Windows update and i noticed that this update resetted my settings in the device manager. I was able to use the touch input completely problem-free again and felt happy like a little child, not knowing how much is missed this comfort! The problem w... Read more

I've just purchased a 2. gen Helix (20CG) with german Ultrabook Pro Keyboard Dock, very happy with the machine, but a bit annoyed with the German keyboard layout. I've got an older 1. gen Helix (3XXX) with Ultrabook Keyboard Dock (not Pro), are the keys interchangeable, so I can change the layout of the Pro Keyboard to my desired/preferred language (which is Danish)? Anyone tried this or have info's on this? The key-size seems to be the same, but I don't know about the hinges or mechanics and how about backlight?Buing a new keyboard dock is no option for me, the expence of this is no match to the annoyance with it...

I did do some reading, hit the PSREF. Strange, my product doesn't show up there. In any case, it is a Helix 2, and I have an active ThinkPad Pen (with AAAA battery). But the pen does nothing. My questions:1. How can I guarantee that the product (20CHS1FU00) actually supports the Thinkpad Active Pen?2. Anything else I can do to make it recognize the pen? Does it need a spcific driver? And, yes, the touch screen works well. Thanks in advance, Uwe

Hello,I have a Lenovo Helix 2 and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to boot to the Lenovo Recovery CD.  I need to resinstall the factory OS before my company donates these but there must be a trick. I have gone into the BIOS and enabled the USB CD Boot option - I know I can boot to a CD because I just booted to the Lenovo BIOS update CD.  But - for some reason when I insert the recovery CD it will not boot to it.  I have disabled Secure Boot in the BIOS, I have reset the BIOS to factory defaults. When I press F12 to get the boot menu the CD drive is listed there but when I select it the boot menu just appears again. Does anyone know how to get these machines to boot to the Lenovo Recovery CD? Thank you for any help you can give me,Matt

Hello, What I miss most on notebooks and convertibles, is that the display is always attached to the keyboard and you cannot increase the distance between them. This shouldn't be the problem with a thinkpad helix convertible notebook, however I'd need a cable to connect them, as the keyboard contains an additional battery and is not connected via bluetooth or similar. Thus I'd like to buy the connectors to create such a cable. Does anyone know where I can buy them? Edit: I've found one at aliexpress, but I'd like to have a more serious source, as the description says nothing about whether it is the male or female part of it. Kind regards,Daniel

I've tried everything I have found both on google and here - nothing works! Situation: Want to install Windows 10 Tech Preview on a prepared partition. Got the ISO from Microsoft, used Windows 7 USB DVD Download tool and Rufus to create bootable USB. Restarting (after I changed boot sequence tons of times), it just boots into the normal startup screen. How to do?????????????? Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 36986CG, Win 8.1 Pro 64bit

A:Helix can't boot to usb

Are you selecting a UEFI install when you use those tools to build your flash drive?

Is it formatted NTFS or FAT32.  Must be FAT32 to boot in UEFI mode.

IIRC Rufus has a UEFI build mode, but I just do it by hand.  Prep the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition (use DISKPART or similar tool), use 7zip (or similar) to extract the ISO _contents_ to the flash drive.  Boot it.

If that doesn't boot you may need to look at other things like trying a different flash drive brand.  Some of the brands I use won't boot out of the box, even though they seem to be in FAT32 format.  Using DISKPART (list disk, select disk, clean, create partition primary, format fs=fat32 quick, assign) should sort that issue.  BE CERTAIN you select your flash drive before doing a clean, create, or format!

Z.

[edit] forgot the "create partition primary"

[more edit] Truth check:  I just dowloaded the Win 10 64 bit English ISO, verified the SHA1 checksum, and followed my little instructions above. Team Group USB 3.0 16GB flash drive.  It boots on my Twist, even in secure boot mode.  Tested by putting the flash drive at the top of the boot order, and also tested by leaving the HDD at the top hitting F12 during reboot and selecting flash drive on the fly.  Both worked.  Sorry I don't have a Helix to test with.

I bought a Helix in May directly through a Lenovo gov/military sales rep to evaluate it for education and I am moderately happy with it.  I want to add a cellular mobile capability and the Lenovo tech I spoke to said there is only an Ericson 3G option for the Helix.    Anyone out there with a 4g LTE model? I thought there going to be  a Gobi 4g LTE chip available.

A:There is no 4g LTE option for the Helix

My recollection is that there was a LTE model briefly available but this was withdrawn due to some compatibility problems (I don't know the exact details). There were rumours that these would be resolved with a new LTE model released around August 2013 but as far as I know this never happened. Matthew

I have an original Helix that is just a few weeks out of warranty. Last night, when I opened it to bring it out of hibernation, I received an error message indicating that the keyboard/battery wasn't working. I figured I'd have to reset the dock, so I used the onscreen keyboard to shut down Windows completely and removed the Helix from the keyboard dock. Before retrieving a paper clip, I tried powering up the Helix while not connected to the dock, and...nothing. It doesn't POST. No response to the power button no matter how long I hold it. The only response I can get the machine to make is to blink the red light three times when I plug in the power supply. I tried resetting the machine with a paper clip in the tiny hole next to the power supply input, and I think I have reset it because after I push the clip in, the red light blinks three times again. But still nothing. It feels to me like the motherboard or power supply, I guess, but I'm curious whether I missed something obvious to try. Appreciate any insights!

I have had issue with my Helix 1 when it's not connected to the power supply it gets stuck at low CPU power, 0.62 ghz, since I bought it. I upgraded to windows 10 and hoped that it would fix it, but I'm still having this issue? I have tried the suggestions on this and other forums, upgrade BIOS and set it to default and many other tries, with no luck? Is someone here that has found a solution or how to avoid it happeing? Sometimes it helps to shut down my Chrome browser, but very randomly? I have TPFanControl installed to keep the fan noise down and I haven't found it connected to my issue, but not entirely sure?  Any ideas very much welcome!  Thanks!=b

Hi bjarkirafn, If the CPU gets hot, it will slow down to protect itself, so if you have TPFanControl set to thottle down the fans when on battery, once the CPU gets hot, it will clock down to prevent damage. Bets of luck.

After doing a quick search, I see that this topic has been brought up before, though no one has answered. Do Lenovo customer service folks chime in on this forum? Is there any chance that this can be resolved, as the current "fly in the face of the rest of the industry" approach makes the keyboard very miserable to use (and it's extra gaulling as other Lenovo laptops do have a bios setting that allows for the swap, but not the helix, for whatever random reason). If there is no official solution for this, does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried a couple of keyboard remappers like Sharpkeys, but none of them seem to recognize FN as a key/function that can be remapped. Really at my wits end here and hoping for a little good news

So, I'm trying to figure out which Wacom pens I can use with the 1st Gen Helix. The included one is exhausting to hold over longer note taking periods and doesn't come with an eraser (for now I configure the button to work as an eraser via the Wacom Feel driver). What I learned so far is that Wacom penabled pens like the Wacom PL-900 should work. What I'm particulary interested in is whether the different nibs make a difference in gliding resistance as well. The included pen is much softer than I'd like. There's also a compatibility list for the Bamboo Feel pens http://bamboostylus.wacom.com/compatibility/It doesn't explicitly mention the Helix but the Thinkpad Tablet 2. Which I believe is powered by the same technology. The Bamboo pens would be interesting since they're relatively cheap to get.  Did anyone try to replace the pen with something more serious? Which pens did work? And does changing the nibs make any difference? Thank you.

My helix seems to have very severe burn-ins.i am aware that IPS tends to build up burn ins more faster and more strongly, but seeing the entire taskbar and windows frames on start screen really seems too much.I don't think I am a very hard user. I always carry my laptop in my Maxpedition, with a neoprene pouch, so LCD probably won't be under heavy pressure(plus I always care about the pressures and weight being applied to all the devices in my bag). I am always aware of computer heat and try to keep them low as possible. And I take care not to put up a same screen for a long period of time. Though I try not to care so much about it, let's say I am just not too satisfied...Is there anyone who is also noticing burn-ins on Helix' screen?   BTW, touchscreen really needs some improvement in terms of durability and reliability. I am using my third Helix right now, and the previous one also had that phantom touch issue(the first one also had a touchscreen problem). This one is developing the same issue as well. having to replace Helix two times in one month and still getting one with a defective touchscreen is definitely not what you normally expect with $2100 device. On Facebook Lenovo is posting reasons why you should break up with your old laptops, but I am only seeing more and more reasons to stick onto my old ones and break up with new ones.

A:Severe burn-ins on Helix

Houndkor,

While we are still investigating the symptoms, I would imagine that touch responsiveness may be more tied to drivers or display firmware rather than individual panel hardware - at least based on experiences with X1 carbon and Twist.   If you have swapped several systems and are seeing similar symptoms, it seems less likely to be hardware.

I am interested in your "Burn in" observations.  I assume you mean a persistent after image that stays on the screen when you change backgrounds, etc?   This is not a factor of temperature.

How long are you leaving the display with one screen or image?  When do you most notice the effect?  Changing from dark to light backgrounds, etc?

Thanks for your feedback!

I am having a problem with a ThinkPad Helix and was looking for some advice on the troubleshooting process. The tablet was dropped and it suffered some damage. When I received the tablet I noticed that it still powered on but there was no video. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the monitor is still displaying video but it is very dim. When I shine a flashlight to the monitor I can see the windows logon screen and the touch panel recognizes me tapping the screen. The first thing that I tried was replacing the cables that connect the monitor to the motherboard as some of them looked like they had forcefully been removed. This had no effect on the issue as the monitor was still very dim when I powered it on. I thought that the monitor was the problem and decided to replace the entire screen assembly. I was able to get another monitor that matched the part number of mine and swapped it with the old one. When I turned it on after swapping the monitor I stil the had a very dim screen. If it wasn't the monitor or the cables that connect the monitor to the motherboard then the only thing that was left was the motherboard. Again, I found a replacement motherboard for the unit and swapped it. When I powered it on I still had the same issue as before, very dim video. I am still unsure as to what could be causing the issue and any help would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't look like the thinkpad helix has an lcd inverter or I would have tried replacing that first.... Read more

A:ThinkPad Helix No LCD Backlight

First, I have never taken a Helix apart, so I am not an expert. On a normal notebook, when you close the lid, there is a Hall Sensor (magnetic switch) that is tripped when the LCD approaches the palmrest by a magnet in the palmrest. If you have a dock on the helix, I would guess it has a magnet so that the machine can capture the "lid closed" event. My guess is that you broke the sensor inside the screen assembly. The sensor is usually somewhere around the outside of the screen. If you have a dock, you might be able to find the magnet by sliding something like a paper clip around the face

One of the systems we have is a Lenovo ThinkPad Helix. Recently it has been over heating. Nothing seems different, other than the over heating issue. As far as I know, nothing has changed on the system (updates, hardware, etc).

The system is out of warranty (ended May 30, 2016 <-- Bummer!). Any suggestions of what to look at would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have access to the computer right off as the main user of the machine is not at the same location as I am, so replies might be a bit slow.

Thanks.

New Helix device with LTE modem. Tried to insert a new microSIM as described in the manual, but it didn´t latch at all (no click). As the microSIM card slot is sunk in the case by various millimeters, I used a pen to better press the card. Now it is firmly inserted, but not recognized by Windows 10. Message in network control: "Insert SIM". Tried another active mircoSIM ending up with the same result. Has anybody succeeded in getting a SIM card running in such a device? If so, was there a trick (hard- and/or software)? If not, most likely the SIM card reader is dead on arrival.

Have sent in the device for maintenance. Curious to learn what they find.

I7 helix 3698-4SU - It was working fine a couple of months ago, but since getting an iPad Pro I left it sit for so long the BIOS battery died and the settings reset (time date error, enter bios etc). Since then I haven?t been able to get it to boot anything, the internal HDD or external USB?s.  I can get into the BIOS, change settings, select boot devices, etc with no issue. However it won?t run Lenovo diognostics or boot any operating systems.  I changed the HDD to a Samsung 512 evo850 a few years ago which gave it a new lease on life, I?ve pulled the drive and error checked it in another machine, seems fine. I?ve also pulled it apart and thermal repasted the CPU (did this a few years ago, wasn?t crusty this time), no change. I honestly can?t remember what settings I?d changed in the BIOS to play around and tweak things over time and keep it playing nicely with windows 10.  Any suggestions hugely appreciated, was hoping to pass this guy onto my brother to help him out.

Hi, I'm new here but familiar with my computer. I've been riddle with a sudden PC slow down for the last two months.

I'm running Windows XP, and have NOD 32 as my AV. I've noticed that my computer slows down greatly, when a double helix icon appears on my taskbar. When i hover over it with my mouse, it says "Bellsouth Help Center" (my DSL provider), which is right next to the "normal" Bellsouth Help Center icon.

I can't open or activate this icon, and it only seems to appear once I've started internet browsing or any kind of online activity.

I've searched the web for a solution, but most people say "oh thats just the icon fo java, Halo 2, Macafee, Norton etc." which leads me to believe this a virus on my pc, but many people over look it because it displays the same as the other icons around it on the taskbar.
Can someone help or have a similar situation. I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm looking to get a new computer for school. My previous one was a surface pro 3 and I got really used to taking notes on the tablet. I also have to do a lot of programming and the type cover sucked for that. In theory the Helix 2nd gen seems perfect for what I need, but I wanted to know from users how reliable it is and how usable. I'd be relying on it for my college work so it'd be pretty important. I'm deciding between getting the Helix or getting something like the galaxy note 10.1 and a normal laptop. I really appreciate any advice!

When my Helix 2nd Gen is turned on after sleep - I need to detach the ultrabook pro keybaord and attach it again in order for it to work on the pc. If not - I cannot use the keys on the keyboard. Any other with the same problem?

A:Helix keyboard problem

I have the same problem, Helix 2nd Gen and Windows 10.Even after latest firmware upgrade for the keyboard dock the problem is not fixed. Although the keyboard works in 90% of the time..I noticed that the mouse and trackpad always work, but only the keys are not working from time to time.Could you please test if your backlight of the keyboard goes out if you put the computer in standby? My keyboard lights just keep burning all the time wich is stupid off course as standby is meant to save battery power...Thanks.

(Just posting this here so people in the future can find it.) I replaced my motherboard and just wanted to leave this here for future reference to some poor soul who has to do the same.
If you replace the motherboard on your Dell Studio XPS 8000, (service tag 3L8DHK1) and you need a new motherboard you can use an INTEL DQ57TM, it's compatible and I did a successful transplant. Your processor is an INTEL Core-i5 750 CPU 2.67GHZ it uses a SOCKET LGA1156. It uses DDR3 memory.
Once you take out your old motherboard and disconnect all those usb and audio wires and the power button wires. To hook up your USB front jacks, audio jacks etc.... here's which blocks go where:
Wires from the audio jacks and usb ports go into these colored block connectors, and those connectors get plugged into those little rows of pins/jumpers called Internal Headers. Every motherboard manual tells you about them. Grab the manual for your new motherboard and it'll tell you where your audio1, usb1, usb2, usb3, usb4 Header connectors are they look like 2 rows and 5 collumns of short little pins. (They almost always have 1 or 2 pins missing on purpose.)
the wires leading to a YELLOW BLOCK gets plugged into the audio1 header on your new motherboard, it's for audio jacks on top of the computer
wires with the WHITE BLOCK gets plugged into the usb3 headers on your motherboard (they are for the usb jacks on the very top of the computer tower)
wires with the GREEN BLOCK gets plugged into ... Read more

I have a Lenovo Helix 2 with docking station. The problem is that the Helix 2 doesn't always recognize the docking station and I only get one monitor. After several times of deleting the display driver and rebooting it / undocking and redocking it will work for a while.

Then for some reason it stops recognizing the docking station again and I have to go through this process again.

I have a Helix 2 (20CG) and have issues of fast battery drain during connected standby state. The USB xHCI controller was active 100% of the time and I confirmed that USB device was still charging when the Helix 2 was in standby. Also noticed that there used to be config about always on USB in older BIOS (1.7x I believe) and older Lenovo Settings app. However always on USB settings is no longer there in latest BIOS 1.83, the updated Lenovo Settings app does not have it either. Wondering if the new versions removed such settings so always on USB is stuck at enabled. Is there any way to disable always on USB in such a case? Thanks.

Kushana77,

I wanted to provide some information regarding "Always On USB".

"Always On USB" was not supported in Helix-2 hardware. The BIOS menu for AOU control was accidentally included in previous BIOS, and subsequently removed in BIOS v1.83.

Unfortunately, AOU function is not related to the symptom of your battery draining quickly during connected standby.

Thank you,
