Yoga 2 Pro draining while lid is closed

Q: Yoga 2 Pro draining while lid is closed

I've had this laptop for about 2 years now, great laptop, i'm running windows 10 now. I recently accidentally hit the laptop while it was closed though, and i think that might have screwed up the open/close detection. When I close the laptop, sometimes it does not go to sleep and heats up my backpack until it dies and i can't use it when i want to. I have to press the side power button to make sure it goes to sleep. When I open up the laptop after it was in sleep mode, I have to press a button for it to turn it back on... I'm wondering if there is a fix i can do, to the software or hardware of the laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After updating the BIOS for my Inspiron 3147 laptop, I have noticed that if I close the lid (in Windows 10 it is configured to enter Sleep mode) with my laptop at full charge battery, nothing happens when I press the power button if I had left my laptop unplugged from the power adapter.
In this case I have to plug my laptop in the power adapter and wait to be charged. This wasn't happening before the BIOS upgrade I did in August 2016.

A:Inspiron 3147 - Battery draining quickly when lid is closed

I’d advise that you load defaults in the BIOS. Please follow the steps mentioned below to load the BIOS to defaults and then run the diagnostics again on the system.

Reboot the computer.
When prompted during POST, press the <F2> key to enter the setup screen.
On the System Setup screen, press the <F9> key.
Press the <Enter> key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Also, I would suggest you to reinstall the Video card driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the Video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it.

In addition, I would suggest you to run a thorough test on the battery. You can download Support assist from the link below and run the PC CHECKUP on Battery to check for issues

Please let me know the findings.

The main reason I bought the Yoga 12 is the claim that its battery will go for hours and hours on one charge. This machine is only a couple of months old and the battery drains from 100% to nothing in just a couple of hours.  I'm not doing anything battery-intensive. Using WordPerfect for work, Chrome browser for email and internet. Not downloading anything.  I would love a suggestion to fix this. Thanks.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and am loving my Y2P so far. I have been following several threads about tweaking my new machine, and I love the sense of community that you guys have here. I decided to join so I could pose a question: Has anyone had a problem with their machine waking up with the lid closed (in sleep mode). Sometimes when I take my computer out of my bag, it is awake. Since the power button is so hard to press in the first place, I don't think an accidental press is waking it up. Could a device be waking it up? What do you guys think? -IB

A:Yoga 2 Pro wakes up when lid is closed

Yes, I have this too. Bad thing is I always have that in a laptop case so everytime when it wakes up it is baking-hot.

I'm using a Yoga 2 Pro with an external monitor via HDMI. It works fine when the lid is open, whether the display is extended, cloned or second screen only. However, as soon as I close the lid, the system gets very slow and I experience redraw issues. I think it may be with the way the graphics card handles the monitor's resolutions. I do not have room on my desk to open the lid, so I need a solution so I can work with my external monitor and the lid closed. Thank you.

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

Hi!I have a bizzare issue with my Gen 1 X1 Yoga. The machine will not sleep when the lid is closed. I know this is not a software issue as holding a magnet above the sensor (in between the caps lock and shift key on the left keyboard bezel) sleeps the machine. Does anyone know where / what the magnet is thats meant to interact with this sensor? I assume it is meant to be positioned somewhere in the Screen bezel? if so does anyone know if this is something that could potentially be checked / serviced by a user or will i be bringing my machine to a repair centre.Cheers

We currently have ThinkPads with mechanical docking stations.  When docked, we can turn the ThinkPads on and off with the lid closed using the power switch on the docking station. We are considering getting X1 Yogas (3rd Gen.) with Thunderbolt 3 external docks.  (Monitor and keyboard would connect to the dock in the office.) Using the power switch on the side of the X1 Yoga, can the Yoga be turned on and off with the lid closed?  Would the Power Options for "When I close the lid" have to be changed to "Do nothing"? If somebody is using this configuration, or if somebody with an X1 Yoga (3rd Gen.) could do a quick experiment, I would be very grateful for any information you could provide. Thanks.

Hello! Got a weird issue with a Yoga 700-14ISK in my fleet that started late last week. It will no longer charge if the lid is closed and/or if the unit is powered off.  The only way the unit will charge is if the lid is open and the unit is powered on. I've checked everything I can possibly think of and can't find a solution.  Has anyone here seen anything like this before? Thanks in advance!

Hey fellow Yoga users, Most of the time I use my Yoga 710 14 IKB connected to an external screen together with a mouse and a keyboard running it in a desktop like state, here I don't need the 2nd/original screen of the Yoga. Unfortunately, I've to open the Yoga's lid (which is BTW. kinda annoying with this device) to power the device ON -> It would be really great to do so without the necessity to open the lid when using it in my 'desktop mode'. Is there a way power it ON in its closed state? Thanks, Timur

Hi,I close the lid, the 710 sleeps. I move the external mouse, the 710 wakes. No other laptop I've got does that, I'd consider it a bug. As a work-around you can untick "Allow this device to wake the computer", on the Power Management tab of the HIB-Compliant Mouse properties dialog. Now the mouse won't wake the laptop when the lid is closed, or open of course, which is not ideal. I then changed the wireless mouse, replacing an old Logitech with a new JETech 2.4GHz 0885, the untick was repeated but the mouse still woke the 710. Luckily a documented oddity it seems and unticking "Allow this device to wake the computer" for the HID Keyboard fixed the problem. No idea why one mouse needed this but not the other one. Is this problem of an external mouse waking a closed laptop specific to this model I wonder, and is it likely to get fixed? Cheers

Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Computer goes to sleep when lid is open, and wakes when lid is closed. I can open it about 20 degrees and work on it like nothing's wrong. I tried turning off the lid-sleep option in Windows, but no change, and it goes to sleep instantly even if it's in the BIOS or mid-boot. The machine is practically new with very little changed from the stock configuration, and it was fine yesterday. Anyone ever seen this? Also the power button and little reset hole seem to not do anything anymore either.

OK so I have a number of problems with the fifteen or so ThinkPad Yoga 12 devices we have purchased. Some of these problems are being addressed in other threads (the black screen on start up which requires you swipe the screen in Windows 10 release 2 being one of them), but I'll just start with one problem for now to keep things clear. On my desk I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12. I have a ThinkPad UltraDock Pro USB 3.0 docking station, the newest revision. Connected are an external mouse and keyboard, a LAN cable, and 2 external monitors. The Yoga 12 is connected via the USB 3 cable, and the lid is closed. Both screens are up, LAN and input devices working, everything seems good. Every so often, the mouse cursor will magically jump to the bottom-right of the left external monitor and a left-click event is registered causing the Windows calendar to pop up. Happens maybe twice an hour. All devices are running clean Windows 10 1511 builds, fully patched. Also running ThinkPad System Update to get all latest drivers and latest BIOS revision. Latest DisplayLink driver is applied. Problem persists across all devices. How do we stop the ghost clicks from happening? The issue is driving my users crazy. The docking station specifically listed compatability with the Yoga 12 model so I don't see why there should be a problem. I've heard reports the situation is improved if the lid of the Yoga 12 is left open, but we lose deskspace this way and my users tell me this isn't a ... Read more

Hi, welcome to the forums.
Can you please post the full model number of you computer?
Just some guessing.
Guess 1: I noticed there was some other discussion about "Ghost Clicks" on this forums. Can you check if those clicks are made by the touch screen? Does it shows the Windows animation like someone is touching the screen?
Just in case can you post your full model number and the hardwareID of your monitor.
Also take a look at this article: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-1470/documents/ht1...
Guess 2: There was a driver update for Synaptics that shuts down the trackpoint when you close the lid. Can you check if your computer has a Synaptics trackpoint/touchpad. Check out the version of the driver.
...this are only wild guesses according to what I had read on this forums. But if you tell me that you don't have those problems if you disconnect the Ultradock Pro USB 3.0, maybe the issue is somewhere else.

I have a Yoga 700-11ISK, and would frequently put it to sleep, put it in my backpack, & pull it out hours later to find it RED hot & the battery 90% drained.  After wasting an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why it kept doing this (and damaging other items in my backpack due to the extreme heat), I came across this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/25982/page/2 The problem is that the keyboard remains active even when the lid is closed, so if it gets squeezed in such a way that the screen internally presses a key, it will silently wake itself up.  Apparently Lenovo has spent the past four years churning out laptop after laptop that suffer from this defect, never thinking to learn from their mistakes.  Here are more:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Return-of-the-wake-while-lid-closed-proble...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/35267/page/6 I've tried the hack/script solution proposed in the first thread, but it doesn't work (the keyboard can't be disabled by DevManView without a reboot).  The other threads apply to the Yoga 900, which I guess Lenovo fixed with a BIOS update. This issue is such a problem that I've literally stopped carrying the laptop around...which was th... I cracked my screen and replaced with a new one.   Now when I close the lid, it won't go to sleep; rather it goes to tablet mode.   I have to press the power button to make it go to sleep.   I put back the original screen and it goes to sleep as it should.   I've tried two different brand new screens and it will never go to sleep when closed.    Lenovo doesn't sell replacement screens so I'm forced to go to ebay or Amazon.   I have checked setting to make sure it goes to sleep when the lid closes.   The magnets are in the replacements.  Hmm, has anyone ever experienced this?  Any recommendations what to do?   Thank you for your input.

While the laptop is plugged in, closing the lid works properly (in my case, sleeps) and when the lid is subsequently opened it wakes correctly.
If I close the lid while unplugged, the laptop seems to power off hard - the front LED goes out immediately, and when I open the lid the machine boots from cold. The event viewer shows a critical Kernel Power error.
If I close the lid while plugged in, the front LED blinks - I assume this means going to sleep?, but then if I unplug power the machine powers off hard - same reboot and critical error when I open the lid.
I have 1.2.21 firmware.
Any ideas how to fix this?

For awhile now my wireless speed has been low and my CPU memory repeatedly shot up to 100%. I've been having some wireless problems so I didn't pay attention cuz virus scans haven't turned up anything (I use Symantec, Adaware, & Spybot).

Yesterday though, I found the run32dll virus among the running processes. I downloaded HijackThis and was able to remove the run32dll item (I think ).

However I noticed some other suspicious looking items that I'm not sure if I should remove or not. I'll post my HJT log below but I'm referring to the BHO no name-no file, AL2spyclass, MSPY2002. As the title says, my monthly data is draining...rapidly, and for no reason.
The situation is weird, and makes less than zero sense. Read at your own risk.

I play a multiplayer game using firefox. It is a simple javascript game with
virtually no animation to it...just inanimate pictures from screen to screen.

For the first two weeks after I get new monthly data, I can play this game without
worry of using a bunch of data...less than 20mb a day. After that, I can easily use
100-200mb of data an hour doing the same thing I was doing during the first two weeks.
During "bonus time data" or "off-peak hours" (whatever you want to call it), everything
acts normal...by which I mean I can use less than 20mb no matter how long I play.
Lately I am not even getting two weeks to play as the issue has been starting after 7 days.
Just having the game open and not doing anything will cause the data to drain rapidly too.

I have tried clearing cache, virus/malware scans, "ipconfig /flushdns", bugging my ISP,
and other browsers. Nothing seems to be working. I am fairly convinced that it is entirely
my ISP's fault but no matter how many times I talk/explain-it to them, they don't know.

Hope I explained this well enough and that this is the right forum to ask in.
(By the way, changing to a different computer (while on same network) didnt help)

My computer is relatively new and it is also pretty good, 1k ram and a 2ghz processor. What really bugs me though is a problem that i've managed to ignore for a few months now. But it's kinda driving me slowly insane.

To the issue: Everytime i start a new application, like Internet explorer or just any random application who uses more ram than IE. The whole CPU goes to the app, everything lags up and i basically cant do anything for the 1-5 seconds it lasts.

Now even with some programs that run in the backgr als instead of just when i start the program.

Before this program could be fixed by a system reset but I've tried my earliest one and it seems like the problem existed back then aswell, I've also tried running Ewido but it didn't solve this particular problem.

I'd appreciate help on this problem as resorting to formating the hard drive isn't an option =/. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've recently noticed some strange behavior of my VN7-592G 74H8 (6700HQ+GTX960M). While playing GTA IV the Latop runs the game really good but it seems to drain the internal battery eventhough it is connected to AC. Is this normal as the power supply might be underpowered and the battery is used to smooth power peaks or do I have a faulty power supply ?

For the last few days I've had a virus or malware draining my bandwidth. An estimated usage is about 3gbs of data during the daytime, and if I leave the computer on at night another 2gbs of data at night. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. There are no kind of error messages or anything. In fact I only noticed because one month my household went over the allotted bandwidth usage and we caught it then.

Hello everyone.  First time on the forums and I hope someone can help me out with this so here it goes... I'm using a T500 which is almost brand new and I've noticed that my battery is draining too quickly.  I know this because I have owned other Thinkpads before (T60, T61p, R61, etc.) and this is the worst on battery life.  I have a 9-cell battery in currently with 80.10Wh at full capacity and I don't get more than 2.5 hours out of one full charge.  I had this same 9-cell battery in my older T60 and I was easily able to pull 6 hours of battery life.  I have my power manager set to 'Optimized' and dimmed the screen almost all the way.  What could I be missing here?  I'm running Windows 7 Pro if it makes any difference. Thanks for any of your inputs.

Well, after many months of not dealing with this, I'm back with the exact same problem I had in this post: http://forums.techguy.org/malware-r...-something-sucking-bandwidth-draining-hd.html

I've done everything asked and am going to post the logs from all of the runs. Should anyone be able to help, I would certainly appreciate it.

Right click it and click Go to Services if it's available. That should tell you the application using it.

PS: I'm new so I don't know if I'm allowed to help/answer or not.

HELP PLEASE! My HP laptop is only about 1 year old and my battery has been draining faster than usual. It has only been lasting a max of just under 2 hours and one of my friends has the exact same laptop and hers is lasting up to 10 hours and it is the same age as well. I used the HP Assistant and it said the battery was fine. What is the problem and how can it be fixed?
