I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a Dell Precision M4500 laptop which stopped recognizing the battery a couple months back. I have had the laptop for one year now with absolutely no problems up until this happened. I am pretty sure the battery is still good, it's not that old, but since the computer wont even recognize it is in, there's no way to check if it can charge. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, maybe there is a fix before I have to shell out the money for a new battery.

Laptop batteries go bad any time, and they are considered to be "consumable" like paper is to a printer. Replace the battery and you should be okay

I just got a new M4500 with a Samsung PM800 64GB SSD and a Toshiba 7200RPM storage drive. Both of these drives are set to non-RAID. I noticed when I went into the BIOS that it was set to RAID On instead of AHCI, even though there is no RAID setup between the two drives.

I ran the CrystalDiskUtility and the most it eeks out is at 94%. The built in Performance Utility in Windows 7 currently measures at 6.7

I was told an SSD should equal out to close to 100% and at least 7.0 as benchmarks if I want to utilize all the performance it offers. Is this the best that it can do?

Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks.

A:Dell Mobile Precision M4500 setup questions

RAID On is the default SATA controller setting in some BIOS, even with one HD,.

Try AHCI first for install.

I have had several Dell Laptops (D630, D830, E6410, E6510, Precision M4500), and with the D630 and E6410 Dell was VERY helpful after the warranty expired (in one case by 5 months).. even replaced a system board or 2 since tons of people were reporting issues similar to mine on the D and E series.

NOW
on my Precision M4500, I called Dell 1 day (24 hours) after the warranty expired.

Issue: The system would REFUSE to boot past the dell BIOS splash screen.
It would finally boot after 10 or so power cycle attempts.

Dell refused to "help" me but did give me some advice
now ... 1 month after the warranty expired - the issue is back

System Info:
Dell M4500
16GB DDR3 RAM (Dell Certified) - issue remains when I use the 8gb in my e6410
bluray drive (I also tried to boot using the dvd drive in my e6410, issue remains)
intel 6250 wifi/wimax card
gobi 2000 card
Bluetooth
i7 cpu
NVidia FX 880 gpu
bios level a15
os: dual boot via GRUB - Ubuntu 13.10 and windows 7 ultimate (both 64 bit)

when it does finally boot, I get a message about intel management engine booting the factory image or something to that effect

it will NEVER boot past the bios splash screen on battery only (even with a new battery)
once booted, I can unplug and get about 2 1/2 hours of usage from the pc

I can access the bios settings with no issues - even on the "no-boot" power ups

once it does boot, there are no other issues

NOW:
after reading on the internet I found this to be a COMMON problem

My corporate office has told me that we will be using Dell Precision 5510 laptops in the future and our office uses Windows 7 Enterprise because we need bitlocker on them.  Dell has a fully functional Windows 7 Pro disc which I can download and install
with no issues.  The BIOS is configured for legacy and the drive is configured in AHCI mode when I do the installation.
If I attempt to install directly from our Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise disc from Microsoft as part of our enterprise agreement, I get the error "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.  If you have a driver floppy disc, CD, DVD, or USB flash
drive, please insert it now."  This error happens because I have a Skylake based laptop with only USB3 (no USB2).  When I attempt to inject the proper drivers into the install.wim and boot.wim files that are in the sources folder I no longer
get this error, but the installer cannot see the hard drive unless I change the bios to UEFI and RAID.
Even though the windows installer can now see the hard drive, I cannot install to it.  I get the error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk.  Ensure that the disk's controller
is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I have attempted injecting the MS KB2990941 and KB3087873 into the disc since these are supposed to add NVME support to Windows 7.  I change the BIOS back to legacy and... Read more

I'm posting this more as an observation of things I discovered than as a question, but would welcome feedback from others experiencing a similar problem.
At the Black Friday sales I bought a very nice 32" Asus VA32A 2560x1440 WQHD monitor to use with my Dell Precision M4500 i7 laptop. I was replacing a smaller very old Dell monitor that had a considerably lower maximum resolution.
Almost immediately I started experiencing events daily where the screen would turn a nice shade of mauve in pixelated pattern and freeze, requiring a hard reboot. This had happened on very rare occasions before, but not often enough to investigate. Now it was a constant problem and everything I read online told me it was an overheating issue and not to ignore it as it could destroy the computer.
First recommendation was to clean the dust out of the fan area. Being an old computer there was a lot. I took out the fan/heat sinks cleaned the input and output screens as well as the fan itself meticulously and put it all back together. No benefit; still overheating.
I figured maybe I had accidentally removed come of the thermal grease so took it apart again and replaced the grease where it was previously. Same result - still overheating.
I then bought a cooling fan for under the laptop and made sure that the laptop's own monitor was turned off when the case was closed (I use an external wireless keyboard for this setup... Read more

Intel I7 CPU - Original problem was BIOS did not detect the SATA drive. I could access the drive on another computer and see three partitions under ‘Disk Management’. I formatted the Primary Partition on another computer as NTFS. BIOS now sees the SATA drive and I see three partitions when I try to load Windows. Error – “Windows cannot be installed on this drive. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. Default BIOS sets drive to RAID. AHCI gives same results. Same error when USB drive with Windows loaded on it is selected as target for installation.

A:Precision M4500 - Unable to reload Windows 7 Professional

The Windows 7 bootable USB needs to be FAT32 formatted and setup for the GPT partition scheme using the likes of Rufus. See here for details:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg8Oebhc3EI&list=PL1RkaknDn7v82tfEmxGgycwJJvJ0xGoqZ&index=2
It also has to be 64 Bit. 32 Bit is not supported with GPT.

I backed up my entire computer on an external hard drive(WD My Passport). My finances also backed up on a flash drive. My computer crashed. My new desktop uses Windows 10. I have tried to open the flash drive and it comes up stating it cannot read Word 2007. Any suggestions?

Hi MELG8, and welcome to TSG.

Are your finance files saved to the flash drive as individual MS-Word and MS-Excel documents?

Are you having problems opening the flash drive to view the list of files saved on it or opening the files that are saved on it?

Did you install MS-Office 2007 or newer on your new computer?

Described here. I have a problem with finishing work on "unknown device". For a moment, after installing from the DELL (www.dell.com/.../advanced) driver "ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver ", file DRVR_WIN_R309372.EXE Device Manager has stopped showing that there is an" unknown device "in the configuration. After updating to "ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver", the Chipset_Driver_RCHTX_WN_2.00.10.34_A11.EXE file, from the same DELL page, again appeared in the configuration unknown device.
I decided to remove the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver from the system via the Control Panel to install only DRVR_WIN_R309372.EXE. Unfortunately, the installation can not be resumed, the message "Found incompatible installation of, Version. Please uninstall it via Control Panel Add / Remove Programs before installing this version of Accelerometer". The problem is that Control Panel no longer shows this application. Suspecting that there were some traces left after the previous installation, I tried to remove them from the File Manager and also edited the registry. In the registry I searched for: "R309372", "RCHTX", "Microelectronics", "AccelerometerP11", "Freefall". I deleted the entries containing the above characters. I would be grateful for directional guidance on how to proceed further. I am using Windows 10 64 bit Dell Precision M4500.

I have this M4500 which is quite a trusty computer with a great keyboard. It's just a fun computer to use and still runs my apps really well. In many ways the experience of using this computer is better than more recent counterparts.
The one thing this computer doesn't have going for it is the LCD, it has pretty bad viewing angles by today's standards and the colors are noticeably off. So I'm wondering, is there an LCD out there that is newer and would be a drop-in replacement for this one? I have the 1080p screen on this.
I actually bought an LCD with a 30pin input, and it didn't work, so I'm asking in here in hopes that somebody out there has done this or worked on a similar model.

I have an HP Compaq dx2000mt desktop that has windows7 32bit enterprise installed on it. I tried to install windows7 home 32bit to replace the enterprise OS. As I was installing it stated the old OS would be marked, XXX.old and it went forward, then came to a point where there were booting errors. and it stopped installing. Now I am left with a half install, and a full OS the boot section now in its own drive named disk 0 system reserved.
I partioned the C drive and allocated 20gb and tried to install there. I received the same errors seems that my boot.ini is stuck in the system reserved and I cant figure out how to incorporate disk 0 over to disk C, so that my boot is in the same disk drive.
I have really messed this one up. I have installed an operating system before and never had so much trouble.
Any advice would be helpful.

HI.
I was trying to use the fingerprint swipe reader on my laptop. It turns out it is useless except with the wave security software except for logging into the computer itself. It will not work with internet explorer, network logins or other applications.
A full description is here: http://notebooks.bigresource.com/Dell-New-Fingerprint-Reader-Owner-039-s-Must-Read-joChMJo1.html
On win7 32 bit, apparently Wave's PIM (Personal information manager) and Document Vault work. Wave software is notorious for being a complete useless, bloated piece of code that does nothing but slow down your system to a crawl. On 64 bit systems, they do not provide PIM or DocVault at all. Emails from them have confirmed they do not provide it, and maybe they will at some point in the future but not really.
The big problem is dell uses a fingerprint reader that is not compatible with the Windows Biometric standard. Why they do this on the precision is beyond me. I think some other brands are affected, but I used to have a Latitiude with a reader that did work as a WB. The implementation problem seems to be because the fingerprint sensor is slaved to the Broadcom USH device. As a non-standard, proprietary system, there are no software implementations from anyone (think PSQL 2009, an excellent program for this purpose). Not because they don't want to but because they can't get to the sensor. Even Wave, the one that has the rights to develop for this sensor, does not do it for W7x64... Read more

Hi all,

I have just ordered a new computer from DELL, and it should be here in a couple of weeks. I will need to transfer everything from my old PC to the new one. I have seen a Data Transfer cable on eBay for about 15.

Does anyone know if this is all I need or will I have to buy extra items.

I have previously seen them in Staples for about 60 (boxed with software etc).

If anyone knows how to transfer all my stuff I would much appreatiate it (as it would have cost around an extra 100 for Dell to do it - 100 which I don't have)

Thanks in advance.
ps. Sorry if I have started this post in the wrong Forum.

I've got a Dell Precision 7710 with the Dell Precision Optimizer. It works great for when I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D in setting up the laptop for optimization by turning off 2 cores and increasing the clock speed of the processor.
Unfortunately I also do programming with Virtual Machines. When I'm in this mode I want all 4 cores to share the load instead of 2 cores.
Is there a workflow available to go from one profile to no profile? Do I have to do a restart to switch between profiles? So if I'm doing CAD work and then switch over to programming do I have to turn off the AutoCAD profile to no profile and the restart the computer? I tried turning off the profiles and nothing changes for the cores.
Is there a way to create my own profile? Or should I pick one like 3ds Max that would utilize more cores?  Or should I not use it since it won't meet my needs?
Thanks.

Now here you need to look for either BIOS Virtualisation or VT-X and enable the same.'" But I don't get a menu with systems configuration nor a choice to enable VT-X. Can anybody help me?

Hi,
after searching profusely for someone with a legal copy of Windows 7 N edition I'm giving-up.
This is a "charity case" I've taken on and knew better to get involved with, but how do you say "no" to parents?

So now I have to re-install it looks like. I want this over with. What is the absolute easiest way to retain the data and apps from Windows 7 Ultimate N Edition and move it to legit Windows 7 Enterprise copy I have?

Hello:

While dual booting, I often check my email while in Windows 7 and have noted the inappropriately designed interface.
It is a nightmare trying to access the email because the whole interface is out of wack.
For this reason, I am interested in finding a replacement. I.e., would it be compatible with Vista Live Mail, and hopefully replacing this whacky program.

Therefore, I am seeking feedback about how to go about doing this, and is hoping that someone out there can shed some light as to the feasibility of doing this successfully.
If you can share any input, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

A:Can Vista Mail Work in Windows7 Enterprise edition?

Welocme,

I use WLM on Windows 7 and I like it. It is similiar to windows mail.

It comes as part of the windows essentials package, but you can pick and choose any component of the package. I chose just Windows Live Mail
All that you have to do is go to this web site and download.

Mail - Windows Live

Hi all,

I still have the same laptop. I had Windows XP and it was OK to detect a second monitor (the beamer for instance)
Once I changed my system to Windows 7; No recognition at all for a second monitor in the screen resolution properties !!

Any clue , please ?

Best,

A:Windows7 (64 bits; Version: Enterprise) does not detect second monitor

You might also want to go to your video card's website and download the latest drivers making sure you choose the 64-bit version.

Can anyone run Windows 7 on a Dell Precision 370? I have seen ppl say it is running. I had 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate working on my 370 for a few minutes. Then I installed Win 7 SP1 and it crashed. Now, I cannot get it to start or even freshly install again. I get Blue Screen Of Death ...F4 error, and it reboots. Does anyone have it running at all on a 370 or after SP1 it failed like mine? And which version of Win 7? Thanks (Sorry if this is wrong place to post. I am new here. Any help would be appreciated. )

A:Windows 7 on a Dell Precision 370?

Given that Dell ONLY supports XP on this model and no device drivers for Vista/Win 7 it's a hit or miss on whether it will even work with Vista or Win 7. You are in "uncharted territory".

Configuration:
T7600 - Win10 x64
Dual Xenon E5-2630
16GB RAM (4x 4GB)
h310 raid controller
Boot Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
Data Drives (raid 1): (2) WD Velociraptor 500GB 10K WD5000HHTZ

Issue:
The data raid (VD) does not show up in Windows under "My Computer".  Drives are recognized by the h310 controller and are online but in the BIOS config it says there is 0GB free capacity, the operation says "none", and there are dashes next to the physical disks.
I have done both a fast and full initialization with no change.
This is a newly setup machine. Boot disk is configured "non-raid". There are no issues with boot or Windows 10 loading.
I followed these Dell instructions for the raid setup.

Hi I have recently bought a Dell Precision 690 PC.I wiped the hard drive and went to install windows xp 64 bit onto it but I keep getting this message" Setup did not find any hard disk drivers installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3." I dont know what to do next.

A:Dell Precision 690 Windows xp Set up trouble

It is because XP does not have the drivers for the storage controller that the drives are connected to.  Are your drives connected to the motherboard or to a card?  If a card, is it the SAS 5/iR or the PERC 5/i?

Hi,

My Precision 490 is frozen into an abortive Microsoft Windows 10 update & hangs in mid boot, I cannot boot into F2 or F12 from restart.

I have ordered an OEM Windows 7 disc for clean install.

Presumably, I will have to remove the entire C Drive and replace it with a blank drive to load Windows 7, because the current C Drive has been frozen by Windows 10?

Possibly also if I load the old C drive as slave then I can salvage all the data on the old C drive, when I have the new master drive formatted to Windows 7?

Advice please.

Thanks,

KR

Is there any confirmation from anyone that Windows 10 works properly on the Precision Mobile Workstation M6600?
There were no drivers for Windows 8.1 and I never managed to get it working properly with Windows 8.1. VMWare Workstation would crash, blue screens etc. Thats because there were no drivers released for this model from Dell for Windows 8.1.    But will it be the same story with Windows 10?

A:Dell Precision m6600 and Windows 10

I can confirm Windows 10 DOES work on the M6600. I just upgraded my M6600 and Windows 10 actually improved some drivers and made my computer work way better.
From the time I bought my Logitech H800 headset I have been unable to pair it directly with the laptop via Bluetooth. The USB receiver was always required. As soon as I upgraded to Windows 10 my H800 was recognized and immediately connected!
There were two small issues that scared me at first. Neither WIFI or Bluetooth worked immediately after the Windows 10 upgrade. I am not sure why this happened but I simply went to the Network adapters and disabled then re-enabled each one. After being re-enabled the WIFI started working along with Bluetooth

I recently purchased a Dell Precision 690 Work Station.  Here are the specs:

2 Xeon quad core CPUs running at 2.66 Mhz.
8gb of RAM, two sticks of 4 gig.
4 1TB HDDs, 7200 rpm.
Dell RAID controller card.

It came with Oracle Linux installed as the OS.  I purchased Windows 7 Pro (DVD) and have the new COA to go with it.

Do I need to initialize the hard drives prior to the install?

Will I need to specify which RAID configuration I want to use during the install?

If I add a SSD (it will accept a fifth drive) later, will I be able to put the OS on the SSD?

A:Windows 7 Pro install on Dell Precision 690

[at the edge of my comfort / knowledge zone]

I would be sure to reformat all of the drives before putting them into service
The RAID configuration must be in place before you start installing the OS and programs
When you add a SSD you may have to start from scratch if you want to reconfigure things.

Hey Everyone,

I've recently acquired a tablet to pilot with my company. It is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2, and my issue is I'm trying to install and upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, but having no luck so far.

I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. Keep in mind, I don't even make it to the following screen:

Can anyone offer me any assistance please?

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I always get trouble when installing the win7 on my precision.
Currently it has an Ubuntu preinstalled system on it, but I want to install my windows 7 on my laptop.
I have read tons of threads about the problems I met and it turns out that it is the USB 3.0 port get me into the trouble.
There are also some posts addressing this problem but they all rely on windows system.
To be simplified, my precision 7510 only has USB 3.0 ports on it and its OS is preinstalled Ubuntu and I want to install windows 7 through USB port(They are all 3.0 ports).
If someone can help me I will be really appreciated.

I got myself a T3400 PC. I installed windows 8.1 in it. Everything seems to work fine except for my internal speakers.
After I installed windows 8.1 the audio symbol showed that it was muted at the bottom right corner and no matter what I did the volume level wouldn't change.
I went to Dell's website and downloaded their latest audio driver by entering my express code into the website.
The muted symbol has gone away but I'm still not hearing anything from my speakers even though I see the signal level changing in "Playback Device" tab of my sound devices.
I plugged in my headphones and mic they're working fine.
I ran Dell's hardware test on the PC and it passed everything.
Q1. Is there any way to get them working ? Can somebody give me steps please?
Q2. Do I need to install some new driver?

Hello!  So are you talking about the internal speaker inside the tower itself, or are you talking about a speaker set you plugged into the back?  If you plugged them into the back its supposed to be plugged into the green plug in the back and not the blue one.  If your talking about the internal speaker, there is a possibility that it never came with one as the manual lists it as an option for this model.  I would open the unit and see if its plugged into the connector on the motherboard if it has the optional speaker
