Dell laptop Windows 7 wifi wont connect

Q: Dell laptop Windows 7 wifi wont connect

Hello, i know a lot about the dell xps m1330, especially when it runs xp.
However i dont know much about windows 7.
I know the wifi in the laptop works, i know the laptop has no issues.
I know this because i switched my hard drive from my 1330 to this laptop which is also a 1330...connects and works fine.
Wifi IS turned on
In device manager the driver is ok no exclamation marks anywhere

When i try and connect with the ethernet i get identifying no network access, then it says currently connected to unidentified network, no network access! You cannot browse.

So that being said it must be in the setting with windows 7.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi driver it did not make any difference.
I also tried using a ethernet connection and it would not connect either.
When i use the win 7 trubleshooter it states a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken.

Remeber this laptop functions fine with my hard drive in it with windows xp.

Should i out the windows 7 disc back in...is there a repair function??
Thanks if you can help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Kentuckynet,

My name is Mohammed from DELL social media outreach team

In response to your recent query I would suggest you to go the DELL website update the chipset drivers and wireless drivers .You can do it by clicking on the link given below

Once it’s done click on start->Run-> type CMD type the command ipconfig then press enter and check whether you see any numbers in default gateway if you can see that then type the following command ping then the numbers. If you are not able to get reply after you ping might have issues with windows 7 .Please reply back with the findings.

Thanks & regards

I have an HP Pavilion g6. This laptop used to run fine with no issues. Now no matter what I do I cannot get the computer to connect to any wireless networks. I can still connect via direct LAN eithernet cable. There is only a LAN Network symbol where the Wifi symbol used to be. The wireless key's light remains solid orange and does not change. No message appears when it is pressed. The divice manager only lists the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller and does not list any Ralink driver as it should. I have tried everything. Reseting does nothing.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Hello my friend has a laptop that will not connect or show any wireless networks. The wireless Icon in the toolbar just has an red x over it. He says he has tried to re install drivers from the manufacturer website but it did not help. I am not sure if he needs to uninstall the ones he has on his laptop at the moment before installing the newer ones or not cause I am sure he did not uninstall them the first time he tried to install new drivers. We attempted to trouble shoot with the windows internal troubleshooting tool for networks but was greeted with the message in the link below. What else should he try.

Is the adapter turned on from the keyboard? does it connect using Ethernet?
Post snip of Device Manager with Network Adapters expanded.
Also a snip of Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections.

This is the preferred, best way to upload an image or a file to a post.

Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

Press the ALT and PrntScrn keys at the same time, this will capture only the active window to use in Paint or your preferred graphics editor.

You may also upload a photo or image you already have on your PC, as you would a file, without using the Snipping tool.

Hi: Most HP consumer model notebooks only work on the 2.4 GHz wireless network band. Are you trying to connect to a 5.0 GHz wireless network? If so, that is most likely the problem. You will need to turn on your 2.4 Ghz wireless band on your router in order to connect wirelessly.

So last year I lived in the dorms and none of my friends had problems getting internet to their laptops. I however had to call the tech guy in my dorm to come figure out what was wrong. He said it happens all the time and somehow my computer isnt recognizing something. So it took him a total of probably 3 minutes and he was done and my internet was working.

Since then my computer died on me and I ended up having to reinstall windows (back in September), which you guys helped me with (thanks!). But now I'm having the same problem with internet on campus! My computer will connect to our home wifi. It will connect to the school's library wifi. But when I go into one of the main buildings it just wont pick it up. It says there's no connectivity at all and I KNOW there is. I see people on facebook all class period.

Everytime I try to go to the tech guys for that building they have a huge line or are super busy and can't help me. So I guess my question is do you guys know what the problem could be? I really would be forever grateful if you could figure it out or even have an idea. If you need any other information I'd be glad to give it to you, just let me know.

Oh - I have a Dell Inspiron 1520.

A:Laptop wont connect to campus wifi

1. Most such wireless host devices have a web page that can be accessed with a standard web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer). Check to see if the campus has such a web page.

2. If that doesn't work, try to ping the wireless host; under Microsoft Windows, click Start ? Run,
type "%COMSPEC% /k ping WIRELESSHOSTADDRESS" and press [Enter].

3.If that doesn't work, check network addresses with Start ? Run,
type "%COMSPEC% /k ipconfig /all" and press [Enter].

3a. The wireless adapter network address will normally begin with the same three number groups as the wireless host web page; e.g., if the wireless host web page is, then the wireless adapter should be something like

My home computer will connect fine to the internet, as will my iPhone and my family's androids. And just yesterday, my laptop was working fine when I wanted to use the internet. Last night, I was on YouTube, when my internet just started failing. So I opened Steam, then Skype. Neither worked. So I just shut it off for the night hoping it'd fix itself. It hasn't. I tried one suggestion of changing my router time, that didn't help. I also tried simply restarting my router. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I just moved into a new apartment with a roommate who already has a modem with internet connected to their desktop. I had been using wifi and ethernet at my old place on my current laptop. I'm trying to get my laptop working with this new setup but it keeps saying No Internet and No network access.

Windows 10 Home updated over a Windows 7 factory install
Processor AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics
1.80 GHz
Dell Laptop 2014
8.00 GB of RAM
64 bit OS x64-based processor

SURFboard Modem 200 Series
Model SB6121
Motorola Arris

I already tried to use the cable my roommate is using and the other ports on the modem, but while they work for my roommate, they don't work for me.
In the Adapter Settings-Properties I've tried installing Reliable Multicast Protocol with no change.
I've gone into Command Prompt (Admin) and done a netsh int ipv4 install with no change, as well.

I'm not and advanced techie, but I would say I'm more knowledgeable than many. I feel like the information under the adapter settings are set to what I had at my old place and aren't changing for this new one (if that makes sense?) so I feel like we need to do something with adapter settings, I just don't know what.
Please help me.

One of the laptops at work is having issues, and I think someone with monkey hands screwed something up. As "the computer guy", it's on me to get it fixed.

His Windows 7 computer will not connect to a wifi network. It can detect them (so I know the radio is on), but after half a beat, I get that "windows was unable to connect" message".

Thinking it was the internal card, I connected my external antenna, and got the same error. So I think I can rule out hardware. I tried using an identical laptop from work, and that one connected with no problem. So I think I can rule out any issues with my router.

I've updated all the possible drivers on the computer, Windows is up to date, and i've disabled IPV6.

Here's where it gets weird. He can get an intermittent connection when he uses his phone's hotspot.

can we see an ipconfig /all and an xirrus
What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

have you tried a restore to a working date ?

usually company PCs are configured in such a way - that we are unable to provide assistance - as we may suggest doing something which is outside the companies process/rules

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Hello to whoever reading this I hope your day is going better than mine as I?ve experienced issues after re-installing windows on my Lenovo Ideapad Z570 and I have spent 2 days trying to figure it out, but then again that?s probably why your reading this because your also experiencing issues yourself, any way I won?t bore you any longer with more babble so let me get to the point of why I?m writing thisI made this quick post because I also ran in to some trouble when re installing windows after my system had begun to run quite slow. The symptomThe symptom that was present was that after installing windows I just could not get the wireless internet to work for the life of me. It WOULD recognize the driver installed on device manager but just would not pick up any WIFI connections, there was a red cross on the network icon at the bottom right tool tray and when pressing FN+F5 it would not list wireless network card ATALL, only the Bluetooth connectivity icon was present. My procedureSo this was my procedure, I re-installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and installed all the drivers accept the wireless LAN driver and the bios update, so that?s including drivers, utilities and software on the off chance that some of the software or utilities also included drivers I needed in the system to work, I tried installing the intel wireless link driver and the wireless LAN drive together, the intel wireless link driver on its own still nothing I even got to the point ... About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

For some reason my windows 8 Hp will not connect to my home wifi network. Has had no problem connecting in the past but yesterday I unplugged my router to move it to another part of my house and ever since then it can't connect. My cell phone and other laptop connect to the internet no problem.
On my Hp it will show a list of wifi networks and my home network is on the list, however, when I try to connect to it and then troubleshoot the problem it says I can't connect to the network because it is hidden. I don't see how thats possible since the network name shows up on the list of nearby wifi networks.
What I've done but hasn't worked:
Reset my router and laptop multiple times.
Tried to manually connect to network.
Forgot the network on my laptop and tried to reconnect.
I don't understand how one day it can connect to the wifi fine and then I unplug it and all of a sudden it can't connect but my other devices can.
Please help me this is very frustrating and I couldn't find a specific answer anywhere else online.

A friend bought a new Acer Aspire E1-570 laptop and it had a lot of bloatware so he borrowed my windows 8.1 cd and did a clean install, he told me he deleted all the previous partitions during the install (which I think erased the driver) and when it finished, there was no wifi. I looked in device manager and there was no driver for the network card. I went to the Acer website to try and find drivers to install and found 2, one for Atheros, one for Broadcom. I tried both, the one for Atheros had no way to let me install, just a bunch of random files. The one for Broadcom had a setup application, but it tried installing bluetooth drivers. It's hooked up by ethernet to the router and working but he wants wifi. You can look here http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers for the Aspire E1-570 drivers and see what I mean.

Just recently had an issue with intermittent conectivity to my WIFI router with my Dell XPS Laptop / Windows 7 OS. Started right after some Windows 7 updates. I reverted back and restored to previous settings and the problem would go away for a day +/- and then start up again. Would not even connect to the router and give local connectivity. 3 other laptops, 4 iphones, and 2 ipads had no problems connecting at all. I was out of ideas. While searching I came accross this post on Techguy.org (Thread is now closed) but I wanted to reach out to the @Kazanov and let them know I found out the problem and made some changes to the WIFI router that apparantly has fixed the problem. (3 weeks running with no issues). I will post original post at the end of this post.

To fix the problem I changed the CHANNEL on the WIFI router 'FROM AUTO' 'TO Channel 6'. A friend worked on a military base and managed over 100 wifi connections and he said that many times for a reason unknown to either of us, some laptops would not connect to channel 11,12,or 13 and these are the default channels for a WIFI router set to 'AUTO'. Just wanted to come back and post the solution to the post below. And if the Administrator can open the old thread back up and update it so @Kasanov knows the solution that would be great. Here is the original post by @Kasanov which is the exact same problem, computer, OS as I have:

i had the always fun duty of fixing a laptop for a friend and well i removed all the viruses and malware that were present on the laptop (many i might add), i used microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes

i scanned each with a full scan twice each on different occasions and i was successful in removing all the bad stuff.

now that everything has been removed the laptop runs smoothly and quite responsive, but it can't connect to the internet at all, ive tried through ethernet as well as wireless lan, the software that manages both the ethernet and wireless hardware says that it is conencted to the router but its unable to connect to the internet, keep in mind i have many other devices on this network that are working just fine.

ive tried resetting all internet settings in internet explorer, windows firewall, internet options, everything that i can think of and still its unable to connect to the internet. (no programs, alternate browsers or anything for that matter can connect)

usually im good when its comes to things like this but i think ive met my match :|

help is very much appreciated, thanks.

A:windows xp laptop wont connect to internet

Hello vert, the first thing you can try doing (if your running xp) start>control panel>network and internet connections>network connections. right click your existing internet connection>properties>general tab>and properties of internet protocol [TCP/IP] go to the general tab and make sure you obtain ip automatically as with dns server too.

Also, is your internet connection password protected. Disable or forget your network and type in password again. If else fails you probably have corrupted drivers, in which you must reinstall.

I recently bought a new windows 7 laptop and tried to connect into my my router it did this successfully but it always now says no internet access when i have full bar wireless connection it only works if i am beside the router but if i walk away it doesnt work my other windows xp laptop works just fine even from 30ft away, my windows 7 laptop when troubleshooting the network that there is a problem with the wireless adapter or access point but its a new laptop i also bought a new home hub from bt because i thought that was the problem, it also says when troubleshooting that 'the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken'

A:windows 7 laptop wont connect to wireless router

then you have a hardware problem or the Win firewall or some other Internet Security program is causing it. Uninstall all Internet security and virus/firewall programs and turn off the win firewall and see if it clears up.

Just turning these program off doesn't really turn them off. you have to Uninstall for them to give up restricting you.

Hello fellas i need to connect my dumb Xbox 360 to live for it does not play any movies!! and asks to connect to live that i am unable to do.
OKey here is the plit-> i have a usb modem that i connect into my laptop wihch has wifi n all that now i create an adhoc n/w first on lapi--the xbox detects and connects but still test connection fails(the xbox is unable to connect to the adhoc n/w)
second i tried creating a adhoc n/w on my xbox-->lapi connects to that n/w but still the test conncetion fails on the xbox

I have checked "Allow users to use this n/w" for my USB modem connection which i use to connect to the internet In Properties-->Sharing
But here it asks to select the n/w connection out of 3 options Wireless conn,Wireless conn2,Local Area Conn.
Sometimes it shows only Wileless Conn and LAN
i tried every possible combination of all these settings but nothing is working.
The internet on my laptop works fine.
I am using Win 7 Home Premium.
I just need to connect my Xbox to my laptop wirelessely and use the internet connection my laptop is using.

i tried some manual settings of ip.subnet n dns server on my xbox n lapi, in this case the xbox connects to the network (while connection test) but does not connects to laptop.
HELP guys

Hello my router is located downstairs in the corridor and has been working fine until today. The strange thing is my dads windows 8 laptop wont connect to the wireless connection in the living room which is next to the corridor (where the router is located), which is strange because its close by so should connect with ease. But As soon as I go up stairs with his laptop the connection is great with no errors at all. So at the moment can only go online upstairs even though its further away from the router

Another strange thing is, I usually play on the xbox one in my bedroom connecting normal which is also upstairs. Well earlier I decided to take my xbox down stairs in the living room(next to the corridor again where the router is), but my xbox one couldn't find my router/connect at all. So I brought i back and low and behold its back working normal again in bedroom(up stairs)

Have I got some sort of range block on my router or something. My iphone, ipad and macbook pro all work fine downstairs but no windows products do

Cheers. Hoping to get this sorted.

Hi all - I could do with some help here.

Since cleaning up my daughters laptop, it won't connect to her wifi router (it did at one time apparently!)

I bring it home to my house and bingo! it connects fine.

My router is set to WPA2. Hers is set to WPA-PSK, so I set my router to WPA and again it wont connect as at her place. When viewing the available networks it constantly cycles "Acquiring Network Address" on and off.

I suppose simplest answer is to configure her router to WPA2, but I didnt want to do that in case connections to other things get messed up. Why wont her laptop make a connection to WPA???

My sis is having problems...

we swapped routers, i replaced her Speedtouch 585v6 which she used wireless fine with my Netgear DG824Gv3 (which she has used before on wifi in past) - this morning her wifi laptop on XP worked on the 585v6 so i set it up to work and it works on LAN and detects the network but upon connecting it fails

it seems to be doing different things -
sometimes it finds the network sometimes it doesnt (rare)
sometimes when trying to connect it says its trying then just goes back to detected network (click connect to connect...)
sometimes its fails saying the signal was lost and there may be interference
she said before we tried everything it may have said it could not renew IP

shes now just said before she rang me the red X was gone from the wifi tray icon and had the yellow triangle..

can anyone please help?

Use Windows "Troubleshoot problem" (right mouse click on the network icon on the task bar near to the clock).Open "Device manager" and find your Wi-Fi card (something like Atheros, Realtek, Broadcom, etc.). Press the right mouse key on it an uninstall the driver. Now restart the PC and Windows will reinstall the WLan driver. This will reset your Wi-Fi driver. If this not fix your problem then you need to open the laptop and reconnect the wlan card. The final step is Wi-Fi card replacement.?Please click ?Accept as Solution ? if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.Click the ?Click the ?Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say ?Thanks? for helping!

Hi - weve had a PC built and now we have brought it home it wont connect to our network. If we hard wire it to the router it works but when we try wifi it picks up the name of our router as an available network but is unable to connect and the troubleshooter can not seem to fix the issue. We have a laptop, sky box, ipad, iphones and apple tvs round the house all connected without error so not sure why the PC is different? I originally took it back to the shop who built it and told them that i thought the wireless software wasnt working so they unistalled and reinstalled it then showed me it in the shop working they ran though a few videos on youtube etc to show me it didnt buffer or anything so now im really confused. Any ideas please? (the pc is in the same room as the router about 12 ft away)

Then Total failure. I've re-installed a clean copy of win 7, same disk works sucessfully on another Dell 1545. I've had the w/lan module out, cleaned the connectors with electrolube, but booting-up, doesn't recognise w/lan. How do I go about further troubleshooting. Hi, My lenovo laptop, which I have used for 3 years, suddenly had a problem connecting to my house's high speed wifi. Other devices are able to connect to my home wifi but my laptop has intermittent and slow connection to the wifi, sometimes my laptop cannot even detect my house wifi and the signal is usually 0 bars even though I am very near my wifi modem. I have tried restarting my wifi card and reseting the saved networks but the problem still persists. Would be great if anyone has a solution. Thank You.
