Windows Explorer, Firefox, IE problems after running AdwCleaner 4.110

Q: Windows Explorer, Firefox, IE problems after running AdwCleaner 4.110

Hello,

I recently installed/run AdwCleaner v4.110 and let it delete some files and registry keys on my Vista pc. I was just trying to clean some traces of old/residual infections. Everything was fine prior to the install. Now windows explorer stopped working as well as my installed programs have selective start-up. Sometimes they start, other they wont.
Firefox would default to its home page, but I cant open anything further, no web search, simply unresponsive! Everytime I type web address or google search - nothing happens. As for IE, it shows "internet connection".
I tried to run/update Malwarebytes but it wont let me. I tried rebooting in Safe Mode but it did not help, I get the exact same issues as in normal mode. Another problem is that there are no Restore Points as I had System Restore turned off.
Here is a copy of the AdwCleaner log file:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello!

Many thanks in advance for your assistance! Through some inadvertent clicking I was attacked by "Antispyware Master" a rogue antispyware program. I have deleted all the files I could find, as well as some registry entries associated with the program as suggested by another website, before I found you guys. Additionally I have ended the associated process to it and it is no longer bothering. It has not shown up after several restarts. However, I am still receiving numerous malicious popups in IE. Firefox is also not running well. I am able to click through to maybe two websites before it will completely hang up and say "waiting for xyz website". Furthermore, I am sporadically getting a windows explorer buffer underrun error that informs me that it is no longer able to continue executing and must close. It will do this periodically and the machine usually continues to operate relatively normally. Occasionally however, it will actually shut down explorer and the taskbar and desktop icons will all disappear. I am able to continue working in the windows that remain open however, but a restart is required to get explorer back.

Also, I have run scans with adaware, and spybot several times to clean the system, and have not had any new significant results recently to show improvement. I have run a couple of scans with Norton and it also comes back clean. However, sometimes after a popup window opens Norton will open an alert saying it found a virus in ... Read more

Hey all, first post and everything.
My little brother, brilliant boy that he is, installed some program that was supposedly a better Steam with better sales. Of course this program was littered with viruses. I proceeded to run Avast, which froze up and could not enable the firewall anymore. Then went into the Control Panel and uninstalled Wajak which was popping inappropriate ads all over everything and Steam. I saw that a program called One System Care was there as well, but I couldn't remove it off of the Control Panel.

Afterwards I ran adwcleaner and it removed One System Care and Lavasoft Web Companion. Unfortunately after that finished the computer lost access to the internet. It shows that it's connected to the Network, but neither ethernet and Wireless are working. I've tried:

- Checking the Internet Options to see if a Proxy was enabled.
- Checking if the DNS was messed with in the Network options.
- Ran Rkill.exe
- Ran MiniToolBox.exe
- Ran JRT.exe
- Flushed the ipconfig, ipv4, ipv6 in cmd.
- Reinstalling the Ethernet and Wireless drivers.
- Restarting the computer afterwards.

And none of that has helped. He is still unable to access the internet after all that. I'm out of ideas, hope you guys can help. Not sure what other information I can provide.

A:Lost internet access after running adwcleaner (Windows 7)

Have you tried resetting Winsock and TCP/IP. Sometimes Winsock gets corrupted after removing adware.

Type CMD in the search box Right Click > Run As Administrator.  Type the following then reboot.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

I'm not the most computer savy person out there, so I've been struggling a bit with my laptop lately. (It's slowed down, particularly where internet is concerned.) Earlier today I encountered a problem where my laptop seemed to recognize mouse clicks where there were none, no matter how cuatious I was to make sure I wasn't accidentally hitting anything. I ran a scan with Norton, which only cleared a few tracking cookies, then tested AdwCleaner, which came up with this:

According to the only person I know who's taken the time to learn anything about computers beyond how to use them for entertainment and google, I shouldn't mess with anything in my registry. But when I ran a search of those first two items (which looked weird compared to the others) I came up with results about malware that takes bank info.

Should I let AdwCleaner take care of it? I don't want to screw up my laptop any further. I've also seen a few posts about malware that comes back easily, so would AdwCleaner be enough?

A:Adwcleaner reporting problems in registry - Windows 7

Hello, and I hope we can help. Those items are "generally" accepted as bad minor infections, and can be removed. Please download these to desktop, and Copy and Paste any logs. First - This is a "basic clean-up" and we will go further depending on your answers. Please download and run RKill by Grinler. A black DOS box will appear for a short time and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. At most the tool will usually run for about 2 minutes Please Copy / Paste the small log back here. Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step. * NOW :* Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop. * Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. * Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. * Click on the Scan button, only once for a good report * AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete. * After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.* Check the removals and see if you are OK with the list. You can always Copy and Paste the SCAN log here if you wish -* Now * Click on the Clean button, only once for a good log. * Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. * Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. * After... I am getting constant Internet Explorer pop ups while running Firefox. AVG is going crazy trying to remove viruses but many of the "infected" items can be accessed.

I know that someone would likely need more information, but I need a little help understanding what other information to put here, and how to get it.

Please let me know if you can help. I would appreciate it so much.

Hello and to BleepingComputer. Please download RKill by Grinler from one of the 4 links below and save it to your desktop.Link 1Link 2Link 3Link 4Before we begin, you should disable any anti-malware software you have installed so it does not interfere with RKill running. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)A black screen will appear and then disappear. Please do not worry, that is normal. I uninstalled the Ffox along with the files and also deleted files in the APPData and re-installed Fox. Same problem, somewhere along the way I also started getting repeatedly the error message that Internet Explorer has stopped working and also heard some advertisement on my speakers. I have windows vista on that PC and have recovery disks (2 of them) but no separate Windows CD.

Hello,

I am having a few problems with my maching that I want to get resolved.

Firstly, I keep getting a some IE7 popups when I am logged on to firefox. These popups are usually related to whatever page I'm on in fireforx (i.e. if I'm on nfl.com on firefox, the IE7 pop-up will be something about sports). I don't use internet explorer and recently started using Chrome to combat this problem but Firefox is my preferred browser.

Second, my Firefox keeps freezing when I do try to use it and it has gotten progressively worse over the past week. Previously, I could use firefox despite the IE7 pup-ups but now firefox usually freezes or hangs for a few minutes. It seems to be working now as I am using Firefox to post this message.

Thanks for any help you can lend me.

Hello... A few things first: I'm 14 years old... I have never taken computer classes - I teach myself everything by using google ... But I have good experience of fixing problems I run into on my computer.... I can follow instructions you give me.

This is a weird issue that needs to get fixed. We have 2 accounts on our computer. We have Internet Explorer and Firefox installed. Internet explorer works perfectly on my account but on my moms account - when she tries to go to any website it says:
Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

On my account when I open firefox I get this message before it opens:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

We need help! We do not wish to pay for Tech Support as I am good at fixing stuff that happens to our computer. If you could help me with this issue that would be great! Reply here or send me and e-mail at Edited by Moderator....I have removed your email addy, not a good idea to post those in public; you can be a victim of terrible Spam!

As a guest on your site, I took your recommendation to use AdWCleaner. It has now been running for over 12 hours. It's been on the browser cleaner for several hours. It looks like it's 90% to finish. I hate to start over but not sure if I should have done this in safe mode. I had hundreds of malware on my laptop. Vipre got the 83 Trojans but I had so many browser hijackers. What to do next? Wait and let in run all night? Stop and start over tomorrow? Thanks.

When ADWCleaner finds an item in the Firefox JS files, do the items listed, picture attached, does it remove just a line item or does it remove the whole JS file ( that would be serious)?

I tried to do this question at Adwcleaner but struggled with French and their system.

Good evening.
I don't know the answer, but you could copy and paste the files in question somewhere safe and then run the removal tool and see what happens. If the files disappear then all you have to do is copy and paste them back and all is well.

I'd be interested to know what happens if you find the time.

Hi,
This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection 91.212.226.6 is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.
Thanks!

My kids use my computer a lot, and I think the clicked on the wrong "game".  I have lots of underlined words and an annoying little popup square at the bottom right hand corner of my screen, which pops up when I'm on the internet, no matter what website I go to, even ones that have never ever and would never have popups.

so I downloaded malware bites, but it would not update. I ran it anyway, and it was fine.

then I downloaded adwcleaner, and it deleted a lot of stuff, and when I restarted the computer, chrome would not get the internet. Internet Explorer would not either.  The connection showed up fine in my computer, the browsers just weren't connecting.

so I used our laptop to find this site and try some stuff from previous threads.

I pulled up command prompt, ran as administrator, and put in a bunch of stuff listed here, trying each command one by one, restarting the computer after each, and none of them worked.

then I found another suggestion to do a system restore, and that did not work.  it also made it so that the little stupid pop up and underlined words came back.

so then I found the suggestion to turn internet explorer off and back on.  when I did this, it restored internet explorer, and I can get the internet again, via that one.

I know that I am probably infected with something, and I decided to start an account so I could ask questions directly as well as post my "log" or whatever.

I was having some adware problems where on some sites it would redirect me to some dumb website where I had to download a virus remover. I eventually had enough of this stupid adware virus so I looked online for a solution and one of them was to download adwcleaner.

I did and after using the program, the adware wasn't there anymore. However, my computer is soooooo much slower now. I used to get 200+ fps on Counter Strike and now its down to like 30 or 20. This isn't just for games too, my whole computer is slower now. I'm at a loss for what to do. I'll post my log so you guys can see what happened

Every time I try to run KIS, either thru the Windows Security Center, Start Menu Programs, or the Program Files folder directly, it won't run.  The banner appears for a second or two, then it just stops -- no error message or anything.

I've tried importing older registry keys backups.  Doesn't work.
I've tried four different restore points, the last of which was from 06/22, 3 days before I even learned of ComboFix & AdwCleaner.  Doesn't work.

I've tried repairing and reinstalling .NET Framework 4.5.1 (the latest my OS will support).  Doesn't work.

I've tried to uninstall KIS under my current (and until now only) admin account and a new admin account.  I get the same error in both cases: Error 1324.  The path C: contains an invalid character.   WTH?

I can run it in Safe Mode with and without Networking/CMD.  Of course, it turns up no viruses/malware.  As soon as I run Windows normally, KIS will not run.

I know I screwed it up.  Can someone please help me get my internet security running again?

I don't want to spam or anything, so I'm posting the same problem, but with different words this time. Basically, I had to run ADwcleaner to remove addware, and whatnot. And I can't open them manually, when I try to go to advanced settings for a wireless connection it says "An Unexpected Error has occurred". I've tried Unhide, and that hasn't helped either.

Hey everyone

I am at my witts end.  I've been playing Farmville 2 on my laptop for a couple of years now.  I have always played it on Chrome until a couple of months ago when it started lagging and falling behind.  It started loading slower and slower and everything started moving like it was skipping.  I reported the problem and they told me to not to use it in Chrome but to use Firefox.  That would fix the problem.  Well sorry, but the same thing is happening there too.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this once and for all.  I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.

Thanks

A:Problems running farmville 2 on Chrome and Firefox

Lets give your machine a tune up, not saying that there is malware here....... But you can never tell untill you check.

Welcome to BC.

Download and run wipe  and system ninja,

https://privacyroot.com/software/www/en/wipe.php
https://singularlabs.com/software/system-ninja/

Then.....

Go ahead and install ccleaner Now that you have the program installed go ahead and run the cleaner function.
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Now that you have cleaned out some temp files, lets go ahead and disable all of the items starting up with your machine except your antivirus. To do this you will need to click on tools then start up select each item then disable.
Now that you have disabled those un-needed start ups lets go into the settings, we will have Ccleaner run when your machine boots, so that you will never have to worry about cleaning temp files again. To do this:
Hit options.
Settings.
Place a tick to run Ccleaner when the computer starts.

Now go to the advanced tab, and select close program after cleaning, now run the cleaner again this will close Ccleaner.

So basically, I had some extensions repeatedly installing themselves on both Firefox & Chrome, so I ran AdwCleaner. It seemed to successfully detect the files to delete, so I pressed clean and allowed the program to restart the computer. However on startup, neither Firefox or Chrome would start. I checked task manager and both programs' processes appeared when I launched the programs but then subsequently disappeared after a few seconds. The funny thing however is that Internet Explorer still functions correctly (I had to re-enable it in Programs & Features haha).

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers

Hello everyone in Bleeping Computer land.  Long time no talk to.  I'm hoping I'm posting this in the right forum.  If not, I'm sure you'll let me know.  Tonight I was doing a routine clean up of temp files, etc and when I ran AdwCleaner, the service "swdumon" was found along with this file "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\swdumon.sys".  I don't have a clue what it is, where it came from, if it's friendly or how to get rid of it.  I tried to research it but that only got me more confused.  So that's when I decided to call on the experts.

I'll be looking forward to hearing from you.  I have also attached the reports that you have requested.

Thank you in advance.

A:Ran adwcleaner and now Internet running super slowly

I have not heard that issue associated with running AdwCleaner...in fact, by removing junk add-ons and extensions, it should speed things up.AdwCleaner should have created a folder located at C:\AdwCleaner. All AdwCleaner.txt logs are all stored in that folder including the Cleaning report log. Please copy and paste the contents of AdwCleaner[S0].txt in your next reply for review.

The problem i have is listed here already. maybe the adwcleaner-makers are reading it.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1012297?esab=a&as=aaq#question-reply

Normally adwcleaner finds data. if not at least always firefox preferences are listed. when deleting settings will be reset to default. one cannot uncheck browser findings if only data needs to be removed.
If no addons are installed, firefox- firstrun-site and mozilla-standard-site will always be opened. only Firefox-reset will correct this.
When addon are installed multiple of these addons-sites will be openend. Impossible to stop except firefox-reset. Is very boring since when using febe, all setting there must be implemented againa an again after AdwCleaner cleaned. Its very boring.  btw: winxp used. I already meantioned this in german camp-firefox. but they are mocking about me using still winxp. which is stable. not what they are constantly repeating.  now my thread is blocked.
http://www.camp-firefox.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=109087
Can the misery be stopped? I already complaned in febe-forum. but its an adwcleaner-problem.
yes my system is clean. problem on all my drives and two pcs.

A:Adwcleaner listing Firefox preferences and resets to default

AdwCleaner is a free portable adware cleaner created by Xplode (a BC Security Colleague) that will search for and remove many potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), adware, toolbars, browser hijackers, extensions, add-ons, browser helper objects (BHOs) and other junkware to include related registry entries (values, keys). It will also clean FF and Chrome extensions and Add-ons. When first run AdwCleaner includes options under the tabs to show what was found and to allow disabling detections you want to keep since not all detections are necessarily bad. The only things you can't uncheck is Chrome and Firefox preferences lines but you still can view them in the "Chrome" and "Firefox" tab. If a detection is made the preference line will be removed when running the tool. This all by design. In some cases AdwCleaner may detect items related to legitimate programs...if in doubt about a particular detection, a Google search should be performed to gather additional information before removal.

Hello, this is my first post/topic in here, please let me know if I've done something incorrectly.

I use Firefox, and recently when I did a scan with AdwCleaner v6.030 it showed me my prefs.js file located here:

C:\Users\UserNames\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5z7fppjh.default-1478561597170\prefs.js

This file, even when I do a clean with Adwcleaner or remove it manually by deleting it myself keeps showing up, probably the next time I close and start firefox. I've even refreshed firefox, uninstalled and reinstalled, but the file still keeps being remade. Could it be a false positive? I've always trusted Adwcleaner and hadn't had problems with it before.

I get the suspicion that it might be made by one of the addons I have and the prefs.js file could be practically harmless, but of course if it's really a virus I'd like to know what else I can do to remove it permanently since it keeps being recreated. I think last time I deleted it manually it deleted my firefox appearance and minor settings like the positions of the firefox buttons I have re positioned with Firefox's customize tool (another reason it makes me think it could be a false positive) and stuff like that. Any ideas? I have the latest firefox version (49.0.2). The addons I currently have are Blur, UBlock Origin and NoScript. I haven't touched the Plugins since reinstalling firefox and they are OpenH264, Primetime Content Decryption Module, Shockwave Flash, Widevine Content Decry... Read more

You can ask the developers (fr33tux or cocochepeau) a question, report a problem or make suggestions at the official Malwarebytes AdwCleaner Forum...include the log file. Our staff does not know the detailed inner workings of the program and we would have to contact and refer the developers to this topic. Your best option would be to ask yourself and wait for a reply.

Hi, random ads kept popping up while browsing, so i went online and discovered adwcleaner for your site, which I installed and ran, I am guessing it cleaned up the browser, but now edge browser says "Can?t connect to the proxy server" and chrome says "There is no Internet connection", but firefox works which I am using now. I'm guessing a setting was changed or a file removed.

How can I solve this issue.

QUESTION: Did/does adwcleaner remove or filter something that is now preventing us from running or re-installing Roblox? This is one of son's favorite games.

BACKGROUND: Re ran adwcleaner to remove a nasty browser hijacker.  Adwcleaner worked great except after running it everything worked fine except 2 games.  One was JewelQuest which we easily fixed by reinstalling (using the disks).  The other is Roblox, an on-line multiplayer game which is downloaded from Roblox.com. Every time my son tries to ply, he gets a popup that says he needs to install Roblox.  We click "run,"  then messaging indicates the install is complete, he tries to play the game and the same thing repeats, i.e. a popup that says to "run" the installation, we do, a message indicates the installation completes, son tries to play the game and gets the "Run" install button again in an endless cycle.  We tried uninstalling Roblox first with same result. We've contacted Roblox help desk and have done everything they suggest to no avail  Since it only started after running adwcleaner, I suspect adwcleaner either removed something Roblox needs to run or else Roblox includes some benign adware that is now being rejected.  Can anyone help?

This was also posted under the gaming forum--I wasn't sure where to add the topic.

Sorry if this has been asked before but i'm looking for an application such as JRT or ADWCleaner that can run silently to clean all unwanted toolbars, etc. It's to be run as a scheduled maintenance for our client pcs. So far the closest i've gotten is running JRT via a VBscript that sends keystrokes at the correct times to start the scan. Problem is this doesn't work if the user isn't logged in or if you were to run the script as the system user seeing as the program isn't visible and cannot have keystrokes sent to it.

Even if JRT or ADWCleaner could be updated to have a command line switch that simply forces the program to autoscan and remove would work fine.

If this isn't possible could anyone suggest an alternative that could do this, doesn't matter if it's free or paid.

A:Unattended/Silent running of Junkware Removal Tool or ADWCleaner

JRT and AdwCleaner aren't CLI-based and don't have a CLI-version, so I guess it won't be possible to use them. You have to run them manually in order for them to do their work. It's pretty much the same thing for ESET Online Scanner and other malware removal tools. There's one tool that exists I think, it's called Tron, but it contains way more than what you're looking for. It's just a script that runs pretty much every known malware removal tool. The best alternative would be to install an Antivirus or Antimalware program, such as Malwarebytes (Antimalware) or Emsisoft Anti-Malware (Paid is Antivirus, free is Antimalware) on your customers' computers and schedule scans on them.
