CPU usage 100% and high temperature

Q: CPU usage 100% and high temperature

Hi all. I have 2 Lenovo thinkpad T410s with i5 M520 with 8 GB RAM and i use Windows 7 Pro x64. For about 6 months my laptops have started to have high temperature in idle (75-85 Celsius degree) and when I tried to play a game temperature riched more than 95 Celsius degree and the CPU went up to 100% and the windows stuck until the temperature fell a bit. Than, I cleaned both laptops of dust and I changed diferents thermal paste without any modification in laptops' functionality. I reinstalled windows and i installed all the programs from lenovo for several times. Now the laptops are almost imposible to use. If i start more than 3 tabs in browser the temperature goes up and CPU usage goes to 100%. In task manager when CPU usage is 100% physical memory never goes more than 4GB. Who can tell me what can i do. At work I have a T420s and I have the same problem with the temperature... is imposible to touch the back of the laptop. Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3
on a Acer TravelMate 5720 laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 CPU
3GB memory
(I also run Ubuntu 9.04)

Over the last couple days I began to notice my fan running a lot more than usual on my laptop. Also, when I started up Windows, Visual Studio debugger would come up saying that there was an unhandled Win32 exception in explorer.exe. I found that kind of odd. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that it was running very hot. I took a look at CPU usage and sure enough it was staying constant at 100%.

I took a look at the processes. I had a strange process called "msAcgzPIuq.exe" taking around 50% of the CPU. The "System" process was taking the other 50%. I killed the "msAcgzPIuq.exe", which took my CPU usage down to about 50%, although the computer continued to run very hot and fan kept blasting.

I downloaded a program called "SpeedFan" to monitor the internal temperature. It said it was at about 95 degree celcius. I'm not sure if it was actually quite that hot, but it was definitely way too hot.

I decided to restart into Ubuntu and see how things ran there. When I shut down Windows, it froze on the "Windows is shutting down" screen and I had to force it off. I gave it some time to cool down, and then I started it up again in Ubuntu. Everything runs fine in Ubuntu, fan runs normally and temperature is at 45-50 degrees celcius.

I tried to start Windows again, but it would not start normally,... Read more

Hello everyone, I've been having a very weird problem recently, in which I BELIEVE is involving high physical memory usage. Sometimes I will be doing things such as playing a game, or watching a stream, and my computer will run fine for a little while. But at random times, my computer will majorly slow down and sometimes even crash. If it doesn't crash, sometimes it will get so slow to the point where I have to hold down the power button and manually shut it down. Every time my computer slows down I notice it is using a TON of physical memory. It's actually happening right now. My computer is going very slow and it's using 6.22 GB memory out of 8. There are no big programs running right now, so I don't understand why it's being slow. I hope someone is able to help. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Update: I just tried to open chrome, and the computer froze completely. It would not unfreeze. After leaving it frozen for a minute or two, the screen went black. This is becoming very frustrating.

A:Very high physical memory usage, no high usage programs running

Dear All,

My CPU temperature is 80C and high. From the BIOS itself, i could see this temperature. I am using GIGABYTE P55A-UD3R motherboard with Core I5-Lynnfield processor. It was working well before 6 months. Suddenly, the temperature became very high and i am not able to do anything. Used Core-Temp software to check for the CPU temperature. It is 77C and not dropping down. Bought a new processor fan and a cabinet case with three fans to support ventilation. But, whenever i start any application, CPU load shoots to 100% and temperature is getting increased. Changed and replaced my motherboard(same) and graphics card too before finding this problem. Applied thermal compound between the processor and heat sink. Do not know what is the exact issue that keeps my CPU always run at high temperature.

I've recently noticed alot of random pc freezes and shut down's that i think may be due to cpu overheating because the top of my case is red hot during games..

I downloaded core temp and found that its idling at 39-40 degrees C and when i go into my bios options my cpu fan (arctic cooler xtreme Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Revision 2 Socket 775.. | Ebuyer.com) is only able to run at 1100 rpm ?

is there anyway i can raise the speed and therefore drop the temp of my cpu ?

edit: in game it reads at 66 degrees

Any help would be great

A:Cpu temperature really high ? please help =(

I don't know if 1100 is the max rpm of that fan or not. Does it run at a constant 1100 or does it run slower when you are not gaming? You might be able to get more info from the Arctic Cooling web site.

Your other choices would be to keep the cooler, but replace the fan (if you can find another that fits) or to get another cooler/fan combination.

39 or 40 is a good idle temp.

What is the temp when gaming?

From looking at the temps I don't think system fan is reading them right either. Check the temps in the system BIOS. Gigabtye should also have some mobo tools allow you to keep tabs ont he system as well you should try thoses as well.

I have a PC which I use only for MS Flight Simulator (specs below): I have just added a CPU temp gauge (via CoreTemp) to the desktop and am a bit alarmed at the information it is giving. The PC came with the i7-950 pre-overclocked to 3.8 GHz (and I wouldn't dream of losing this overclocking - Flightsim runs as smooth as silk). I have never had any problems with sudden shutdowns in the two years I have had the PC...

Temperatures at startup show around 50-60degs. When running Flight Simulator they are between 70 and 95 degs, just under the TJMax, but nevbertheless...

The PC was shipped recently from where I was working, in Thailand, to the UK, but I have checked inside the case that the fans are OK and that the big Fenrir cooler on the CPU is clipped in place properly: all fans seem to be turning just fine. No visible dust at all, on vents or fans. Q-Fan is enabled in the BIOS and the fans do vary in speed as I use the PC. They certainly seem to be whirring away (max I imagine) as Flightsim rruns. (What should the CPU fan speed be? The BIOS showed me around 2500rpm I think).

What would folks expect the core temperatures to be for this CPU at 3.8GHz when the PC is at idle? I did try an experiment yesterday which makes me think that the figures showing may be wrong. I put the PC onto Standby (Sleep) last night: everything shut down OK. This morning I started the PC up from its sleep mode - takes about two or three seconds, literally. The CPU temp immediately showed 6... Read more

Until yesterday, my CPU was the Intel E6850. I had the stock cooler installed with some MX2 thermal compound. Idle temp was 25C and full load was somewhere around 40C. So yesterday, I finally received my Q9650 and installed it right away. I cleaned the MX2 off and changed it to some MX4. I put the stock cooler back on and everything worked fine. I then checked the sensors, and my idle temp was now 50C. I tried to stress it a bit on Crysis, and it got up to 79C. I changed the cooler for this one and added some thermal paste. Same temps. I read that using too much thermal paste isn't good, so I took some off. Same temps. I'm not sure what to do. Are quad core CPUs always hotter?

I have also confirmed the temperatures with Speedfan. I've read all the notes and instructions from Speedfan and the notes say not to worry and the notes say to exclude these from the monitoring program. When you post temperatures please post them in celsius since computer specs are given in celsius. From the temperatures you posted I don't see anything I would consider a high temperature.

So i've installed Speed fan and this is the info I get after 5 min using the computer.

What cold be the problem and how to solve this issue?

A:CPU high temperature

Most times the cause is dirt in the box or bad connection of the fan on the CPU (bad paste or bad seating). Start by blowing out the dirt with compressed air - cans are available at Home Depot, etc.

Getting to the CPU may require professional help. Work on a laptop is not obvious.

I have put cooling paste, pc was cleaned a week ago, fan works at 3700+ RPM. Could the problem be that the case on left side is completely closed?

A:Is my CPU temperature too high?

Do you know if this particular 3.0 is a Prescott core or a Northwood core? Going from memory, I think the Prescotts ran hotter?

Are you using the stock Intel cooler? Not overclocked?

I wouldn't think the left side being closed is a major factor.

What do you use as an exhaust fan (size, brand, speed)?

What case?

What ambient temperature?

Hello again,
You must apply thermal paste, I'm suprised your temps are that low without it. If you do use Artic Silver you can expect your temps to drop 10C maybe more. So everything is going ok with your new build I take it?

You should not get those temperatures, especially when your CPU is running at default clock rate. Try to re-paste the cpu heat spreader and reattach the heatsink securely. Also try to remove dust particles from your heatsink and fan. This should fix your overheating issues.

About a year ago, I noticed that my computer was running slow (both online and off) and that the explorer.exe process listed in the Windows Task Manager was usually running very high. Windows Explorer seemed to crash a lot as well. A few months ago, I attempted to install Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 on my computer and before the install completed a warning window popped up saying something like 'there is already another instance of Kaspersky running' (which was not the case since this was the first time I had ever attempted to install Kaspersky software) and the install failed. When I rebooted my computer, I got the blue screen of death for a few seconds and then Windows booted with a message saying that Windows had recovered from a serious problem. Since recovering from whatever happened after the failed Kaspersky install, my computer is slower than ever and the Task Manager still shows a high CPU usage even though the System Idle Process is high and there isn't any processes listed that are using much CPU time at all.

I just scanned my system with the latest updated versions of AdAware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and Avira AntiVir. All of them found nothing. I then cleaned my computer with CCleaner and ran HijackThis.

This problem began yesterday. I noticed my CPU was at 90C constantly with very high CPU usage (>50%). I had no major programs running. I rebooted several times and the program persisted.

1. I went into safe mode and everything was normal. So this rules out hardware issues.
2. I reformatted and everything was normal..but then after installing these few programs, the problem began again.

A:Very high CPU usage, causing very high laptop CPU temps (90c idle)

Hello. First off, having utorrent effectively craps you out on this forum since it has a bad rep. Suggest you remove it and come back, start a new thread. That said, if you're familiar with Task Manager, check the CPU percentage on the processes tab (click CPU column to sort). This may help pinpoint which app(s) are whack.

There is a serious issue with svchost.exe on my windows 7 computer. My HP Touchsmart 300-1025 has windows 7 64bit installed and svchost is slowing down the computer and using very high cpu and memory usage. It is not a virus or malware. I know the computer is not infected because one the computer has webroot and two if it was a virus or malware I would not be able to use the computer at all. So it has to be an issue with windows 7 64bit itself. Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about and proof.

Hijack log below

Two weeks ago my Quark 7 stopped working - it will start and come up with the splash screen, but then will not go any further - a list of processes shows it's running at 50 cpu usage and 78944 memory usage. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling and have ran Norton's Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner to no avail. I have attached my HiJack log below.

The main programs that I use daily (and yes Quark is one of them) are the following

Adobe Photoshop CS3, ACDSee 9, Outlook express, Quark 7.0, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver 8

Thank you for taking the time - I'm pretty frustrated!

Are you Overclocking?
Did you check the card for dust accumulation in the card's Heatsink, ect?
Is your case well-ventilated?
Are the cables in your case managed or unmanaged? (cable-management)

I just downloaded and used a program called SANDRA and under Mainboard Information it said the "Mainboard temperature is too high". The board temperature is 57 C/ 134.6 F and it says anything over 50 C is too high. What should I do? I'm a computer idiot, so any recommendations would be appreciated. I'm not sure what this means.

OK so I have a overheating issue with the Qosmio G30-204. It seems that during suspend the CPU temperature goes high, I have used SpeedFan to confirm this. eg 70+ Degrees C after 5 mins. 90+ degrees if left for longer periods!

I find it very frustrating to say the least. This unit has hardly been used. I hadn't even touched it in almost two years as the original power supply stopped working. The original power supply casing split as was a serious risk to my health let alone the damage would could have been done to the machine! How can Toshiba create a product which unless I upgraded the BIOS would fry the GPU!

Needless to say I did this pretty much as soon as I had the unit. What can be done to rectify this issue? If anything? This makes me not want / trust buying another Toshiba product.

I look forward to hearing from support ;)

A:Qosmio G30-204 - CPU temperature goes high

Sounds like there is dust in the heatsink. Have you tried removing the dust by spraying Compressed Air through the vent?

Also ensure you have the later nVidia driver installed supplied on the Toshiba website. If you use other sourced drivers, it may cause problems.

Hi everybody,

I recently updated my PC after a long time, but when i ran Speedfan on it i noticed a temp that was always higher. I would really love to know what it is?, is it normal? and most of all, if it's necessary to cool it, how do i do it?

I'll attach a photo of the Speedfan results

Also, my specs right now are

Gigabyte 970A-D3P
AMD FX 8320
8 Gigs of 1600 mhz RAM
Radeon HD 6670 2 Gigs

If you need any other information, please let me know

Thanks a lot!

I have Lenovo Y50-70 (59441908) / GTX 860M / 8GB RAM / WINDOWS 10(Upgraded)Which i bought 5 months ago... and from past 2-3 months , i am suffering from tempratures as bad as 90c-100c.. while gaming.. whatever game i play whether it is Dota 2, Shadow of Mordor , TF2 , CSGO etc....... i dont know what the reason behind this ... i have updated BIOS , tried many stuffs.. still no decrease in the temperature while gaming.. i am idling at around 52-53c.. , even while normal usage as high as 54c-62cIn the early 2 months i hardly reached 82-85c while gaming MOBO/CPU TEMPGPU TEMP

A:Lenovo Y50-70 High Temperature

Yeah thats quite high, even idle temps.
Few reasons for high temps -
1) Humid/High ambient temp (Ideally should be less than 25 celsius)
2) Improper cooling due to usage. You should not use the laptop on your lap/bed. Ideal way is to use it on a desk with the bottom raised for proper ventilation.
3) Bad thermal paste job.
What you can try -
1) Keep the laptop raised from the surface while gaming.
2) Use air conditioning -- GOOD cooling pad
3) Use Intel XTU to reduce the CPU max clocks and voltage to prevent overheating.
Watch this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omur2fNA0Kg
Let me know how much are CPU and GPU temps after these steps.
Which game you played and for how long.

I read a similar thread and saw some varied responses.
I just got a new motherboard, processor, etc...

Right now, idle, my CPU temp is 61 C degrees+

Does this seem high to anyone? I am not overclocking at all. I'm using the standard heat sink and fan that came with the processor. I applied Arctic whatsit 5 compound and that didn't seem to help any.

Anyone else running this processor? What's your idle temp?
asus p5wd2 premium motherboard
pentium d 830 (800 FSB, 3.0 Gig)
1 gig DDR2 Corsair Twin 2x Ram
GeForce 7800GTX

Nice processor but not so nice temps what kind of case do you have. Are these temps from asus probe or bios

I don't really know why, or really what the names of these even mean but TMPIN3, AUXTIN, and TMPIN4 are noticeably high. And to be honest I've never even seen them on there before today. Should I be worried?

A:High temperature fluke?

Where are you seeing these temperatures and what do you mean by high?
Can you give us any more information (aside from none)?

Hi All, I'm getting high temperature readings on my 2560p on idle, not really running anything and CPU use is below 20%. I checked the fan, cleaned it and that didn't seem to make any difference. Temperature has been spiking as high as 92 C at minimal use.

My Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 6000+ used to stay between 35c-45c at the most, now it runs between 72c and 82c is there any reason this is happening and should I be seriuosly concerned? also should I just get another cpu or cooler? All solutions excepted.

A:CPU temperature running high?

I'd take a look at your current cooler and see if it may have busted. You may have a cracked heat pipe or something.

If thermal paste is applied incorrectly, air bubbles can form between the heat sink and CPU and over time can push the paste from out between those two devices.

I am using arctic silver 5 thermal paste. CPU is 60+ C as soon as I turn it on!!!

I made sure the application was very thin. I cleaned it and reapplied the paste a second time, the application is fine yet it is 64 C in the bios as soon as starting it up. System temperature reading 32 and PWM (what is this?) 45 C

Heatsink is not dirty or anything, and is mounted properly. Fan is spinning fine around 2800RPM.

When I cleaned the cpu for reapplication, both times I used rubbing alcohol 60%. I know the best is high purity 90+ %, but this was all that was around. Could using this lower purity rubbing alochol really make a 20-30 C difference in Cpu temperature!!!???

Why is it so hot!!!?
I also just today baught a ZALMAN ultra quiet CPU cooler, model CNPS7000B-AlCu , could anyone tell me how good this product is.

I'm a newbie to overclocking, and i have been reading some guides on how to do it, and i finally decided to give it a shot. I did everything correctly, i assume, but the temperature is way too high for the H80i.

I have overclocked it to [email protected] GHz, with an offset voltage of + 0.025 CPU pll voltage of 1.7 and pch 0.9v.
50% LLC, and VRM frequency manually set to 350.

It doesn't BSOD, however the temps are way too high. In prime95, it starts with 80 and ends up sitting at 90. (i didn't leave it on for a long time since i didn't like the temps.)

Max vcore voltage was 1.352, but even with this voltage, i think that it should run on 70C max.

Any clues on why it's so hot? I have re-seated everything and re-applied the thermal paste, but so far no luck.

A:High temperature while Oc'ing with H80i

Could be your H80i (too weak) or you have a bad airflow in your case.

Hi, I have a harddisk control program HDD Control2 (Guard) running on my laptop. Today at startup 9:30am I got the message: Temperature 19 ?C Good - this hard drive is obviously cooled very well.
Now at 20:15 I got the message: Temperature 51?C Bad - You should think about cooling you hard drive better.
Further: Health 100%
Performance 100%
Sometimes, at heavy load,I think, I get even the treshold alarm of 52 ?C together with a noisy audible signal and an even more severe warning message. Then I switch the pc to standby for a while.

The computer works good and fast always until now (hardware). Do I really have to undertake some protective measures? Internal cleaning of the computer and cpu-fan and/or getting some kind of so called laptop cooler stand. I wonder if this is really so critical, I have the computer since 2009 and the guard is installed only a couple of month and now I switched off the guard option, so I get no alarms any more.
