When I signed on to my computer about 15 minutes ago I tried to log-in to my bank account using the same user name and password that has been working but it said I was wrong and so it froze my account.   So I requested an email to reset my password with them and I am still waiting for it.
Then the next thing I did was I got an email from you guys (BC) so I used the url and tried to sign in and it said that one was wrong too.    I know it was not wrong and the fact that both these things happened first thing has me concerned.
As to my password here I got the email and the temporary password and it said I could change the password once I am logged in but it said to go to my "User CP" and I must be stupid or jinxed today because I cannot find where to change my password with this site.
So I have two issues - where do I reset my password here and
Why am I suddenly having these password issues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Now it says I do not have permission to EDIT MY POST ABOVE?
strange again
But I have permission to EDIT THIS ONE ---
I found the link in the email to my USER CP and it was confusing but I skipped these one to change my email address and tried to change my password but I can't tell if it changed or not - I did not get a message it was changed just everything I typed in was gone and it was asking the same question.   If I sign out I might not get back in because THIS IS A WEIRD [email protected] [email protected]

I don't know if this is the right section or not since this involves more then one issue. If this isn't the right section I apologize and feel more then free to move this thread to wherever it needs to go. I want to preface this long and complicated maze of issues by saying re-installing Win 8 didn't work. I wish there was a spoiler tag option on this board so I could hide this first part so it wouldn't be as long. Since there's not here I go with posting about what I came to post about.

Here's the post I've made on multiple sites on the internet including Dell's Support Forum, Adobe Support Forum, Microsoft's Support Forum and other Tech Support Forums. If you Google this issue it will bring up posts from me and pretty much nobody else hence why I can't get this fixed, In addition to not being able to watch the streams on Justin.tv in IE or FF I can't watch them on Veetle or ilive either. YouTube works fine. It's sites that require 3rd party cookies that are the issue.

I also don't know if this is a problem with my Inspiron 5720, Windows 8 or Adobe Flash. This has been going on since I first started using the laptop out of the box. I have tried contacting Adobe and posted on their forums and gotten no follow up to help with this since mid summer and even then it was a couple of replies. I am at my wits end. I've re-installed Win 8 and now even upgrading to 8.1 didn't change anything. Here's what I've posted about this issue elsewhere online but revised somewhat since 8.1 ... Read more

Hi, I'd request you to please create a new user account with admin rights and let me know your findings. ^VS

That works correctly just like a Guest User account does.

Let me look into this and get back to you. ^VS

I did some research and would suggest you to move your data & files to the new user profile. Check this link http://del.ly/6014jMRa ^VS

I checked that link. I don't have different partitions and what would moving my profile to a disk do? That article was extremely confusing.

I understand article is about moving the user profile information to a different disk. However, you can use the same article to carry -

all the information to the new user profile where videos are working fine. ^VS

Even if I do all of that how do I use my only MSN account info on the new profile if it's already attached to the main Admin account?

You can check this link http://del.ly/6019juQd for detailed steps. ^VS

the above from Dell is the answer to you problems ,as you say it works on a guest user ,just create a new user on you computer[no need for an other partition to do this ,] and then with the help of windows explorer [copy & past]move files and data ,favorites ect you have in the old acct to the new one ,and see how it goes for you on streaming video

How to force IE 11 to ask for saving credentials again for just one web site, after having accidentally sellect not to remember password for that particular site. Please, take into account that:

- I'm totally aware that storing credentials is not a good security practice, but in my particular case this is what I need to do.

- I know that reseting IE or similar approachs will do the job, but doing that I'll lost more tan 70 web sites credentials. I need a solution not involving loose all the web credentials stored.
- I also know that there is way to do the trick "lying" to IE using a modified but similar username, but this only works in some web sites, depending on the kind of login mechanism used. In my particulare case this trick also does not work.
- I also know that there was a registry hack for this particular problem, but this does not work with IE last versions.

Any help would be very apreciated.

Hi All

I have designed a few small www pages for a friend of mine who is starting an online business printing garments complete with images of crystals taken by electron microscopes at a molecular level. He has some very nice images to place on garments indeed... anyway... back on topic...

I have used a lovely font in some of the text - it is called - Cricket - and I would like to include this font somehow within the web so that when users see the page the text on the front page is always displayed using that particular font. As I understand it, if one doesn't have a particular font installed on ones PC, then one of the default fonts is used instead...?

Is there a way I can force this font to be used. it is only a small file and I dont think will be to the detrament of page display speed. Any advice...?

If anyone would like a peek at the site and the images, it can be found at www.guano-crystal.com (hope this is OK Mike/Mods - I don't mean to spam!!, please remove if this is not allowed)

Hello mi_rb,

If you still require assistance, HijackThis is not the preferred initial scanning tool in this forum. With today's malware, a more comprehensive set of logs is required to determine the presence of malware.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

Ok its really a weird problem I am into. Its an old box p4 1.6 Gigs being used as data storage & backup system only.

Now problem is I booted the system and it was not going beyond hdd check. I went to the BIOS and the disk is very much listed in BIOS (Phoenix Bios). I again booted it and it failed. It does not let me go beyond the screen that has all the messages on it. I thought its hdd problem and used my disk in other system went flying well. Again checked in faulty pc; same problem. CHecked it again in working system... problem now -- MBR is not intact. Did it fine with PTDD.
So i concluded:
1) HDD fine
2) Processor is fine (got it checked from tech guy)
3) MoBo is fine (he checked this too)
4) Used new cables
5) Somethin is wrong in there...y is it changing my MBR all of a sudden? (edit:: now its not giving that problem)

Error msg: Drive not ready - System Halted
And it all started with a faulty power supply and nothing else.

Any help is really really appreciated..

Please help me out. I have been having this problem for over a month now, tried several fixed, none works. The error i get with my IE7 (and 6 as well) is HTTP 400 - Bad Request. I get it no matter what link i try, and the address is perfectly correct. I need to check my hotmail inbox and i can't, because of this.

Now i don't know if this matters, but i'm also having a problem with Windows Live Messenger, which appeared at the same time i stopped having access to MSN sites. So i'll give you some info about this as well, that will hopefully help. Can't sign in, error 80048820-80048406. When I run the repair utility, everything is ticked except Hosts Files. And this is where the strange thing is. I checked host files over 9999 times, it's fine. I'll paste it for you as well:

I'm not sure what I installed for this to happen, but every time I turn my Windows 8, Sony Vaio laptop on, I get a dialog box that pops up in Russian. Using Google Goggles on my Android smartphone, I was able to roughly translate it to "A mistake some files were not created. Close all programs, restart Windows and re-install"
I'm guessing I must have installed some form of malware at some point, but I have absolutely zero clue as to how to get rid of it this message, or the components that have caused it. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Here is the message that shows up, in all of its Russian glory.

Hello: (New to this or any forum for that matter)
Trying to get a cursor in this text box took 5 seconds. Hitting refresh in Gmail or any buttons within gmail or on-line apps takes the same amount of time. Just days ago all was fine - I downloaded some code (w/o properly using common sense - logic analysis code - technical - usually OK) and since that occurred having "response to mouse action" problems (just button clicks and text entry getting a cursor). Have also lost scroll capability in one application - not sure its related but suspicious. Scroll works fine in other apps like Visio.
Have run antivirus software (AVG & Bit defender and Microsoft Security Essentials has been ON all the time). Was thinking of running "combo box" repair utility from this site - but thought best to get advice first and that was also what was recommended.
Suggestions? Thnx in advance for your help.
Mod Edit:  Do NOT run ComboFix without proper instruction by MRL personnel - Hamluis.

A:Buttons, text boxes slow to respond (Gmail / Chrome including this web site)

Seems to be OK now.
Removed Chrome - re-installed - worried I would lose my mail - did not  -->> No change
Read some more - came across a forum discussing changing windows performance - played with  that no difference although one person states it resolved this issue.
Came across this web site:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179159-troubleshoot-application-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html.
Played with MSCONFIG as suggested - however it locked up my machine -on reboot (windows was busy trying to stop apps during log off) - waited 1/2 Hour - removed the battery - rebooted came up with all the start-up items disabled, (which I believe I had disabled as suggested).
Opened chrome the problem was GONE. I was about to cut disabling the start apps in half to narrow down on the problem - but instead turned them all back to Normal - using Normal.
Returned Windows to Normal state using MSCONFIG - rebooted. and Voila (GOT LUCKY) - chrome and all other boxes including this one work 100% as before.
So what changed - beats me? But I am thrilled that my machine is back. I am running chrome Beta version now as suggested by one forum (problem remained it was the MSCONFIG selective - no start-up rtns / reboot / back to normal approach that seemed to have resolved the issue)
We'll see for how long this will stay the way it is now - if it comes back - I'll be back.
Anyway Thnx for letting me spell th... Read more

Hi, I'm a complete network newb, but am helping out a Montessori school with their issues. Hopefully someone can help.
Site A has the main WAN link coming in to a Cisco 1841 router, then going to a Sonicwall appliance, then to a 24 port unmanaged switch.
There is also a point to point link to site B. This has another Cisco 1841 router on each end of the link. At site A, it's also plugged into the 24 port switch, and plugged into another 24 port switch at site B. There is a DC with DNS and DHCP at site A, and a DHCP server at Site B. Site A's IP achema is 192.168.1.x, and site B is 192.168.2.x, with subnet masks of The circuit sides of the point to point connection is & 2.
The problem they've been having for the last month or so is that the connection at site B would drop all together, or be very slow and sporadic. Yesterday, I tried downloading a 4mb file from the internet, and couldn't get the whole thing, even after trying for an hour, it kept timing out.
Downloading the same file from site A, I was done in 20 seconds.

Here's the wierd part. If I do a tracert from site A to site B's server, it sometimes works, meaning it'll trace in a couple hops to the server. When it doesn't, it tries to route out over the internet, with the first hop being a 162.42 address, which is the service provider.

Century Link says the point-to-point T1 circuit is fine, but am reaching out to see if anyone can give me a hand... Read more

Hi Guys,

I've done a fair amount of googling before referring myself to W10 Forums.. I hope this helps someone else in the process. Since rolling out Windows 10 we've noticed users are having difficulty accessing their personal user data drives, via File Explorer. Let me make a scenario which is understandable.

In Site 1 (HQ), we can connect to the file server (e.g access 1FS without any issues- Where user data is stored)
In the remote site (Site 2), we can do the same (e.g 2FS)

At our HQ, when running Windows 7, we are able to File Explore to 2FS but since the upgrade we're unable to. This occurs both ways.

We can ping our servers, and remote desktop.

Server infrastructure:
VMWare ESX 5
File servers in question are Windows Server 2008
ONLY Windows server 2008 R2 servers have the issue, (2008 Standard edition is fine) all patches have been applied via WSUS.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance,

IT Apprentice

Hi, a few days ago I guess I downloaded something that has since caused my computer to do the following: 1) random slowdowns, 2) outgoing connections to random IP addresses (found by MalwareBytes), 3) run a svchost process with significant memory usage (250,000 K and higher) 4) there's a strange process running: 3856804458:2513771802.exe. Occasionally, I have also had my search results or webtraffic re-directed.

I'm running Windows XP SP 3, Mozilla Firefox 7.0.1, and I've attached the DDS logs and GMER scripts described in the preparation guide. While running GMER, the program would quit suddenly after running the scan. There was a slight delay before it did so, but I was barely able to save the log. The first time I ran gmer.exe, I crashed to a BSOD saying "Page fault in non-paged area." Not sure if that last part's related or bad luck.

I've since downloaded, updated, and run: Spybot, MalwareBytes, Immunet, and AVGFree 2012. They all found several items, but no solution. MalwareBytes is routinely block IP outgoing IP address, but when I try to actually run it, it says I have the incorrect "device, path, or file."

Any help you fine folks can give me would be very appreciated!

Hi there. My parents are not quite as tech savvy as me, so I guess it's my distinct honor to try and fix their PC problems.

The computer started acting funny recently and restarting (without prompting) itself whenever they tried to log on to AOL. But when it restarted, it would restart yet again during boot up and ask if I wanted to run in safe mode, last known working config, etc. Wont start "normally" but will start in safe mode and most recent working. One time I got the BSOD when it was ostensibly restarting, but neglected to write down the info as I was late for work.

I installed the most recent version of AOL (9.0 VR) and uninstalled all the older versions excluding spyware protection. I also ran ATF-Cleaner as well as SUPERAntispyware and removed some lurking spyware, but it's still acting wonky. For one, I can't remove the old AOL icon from the desktop (won't go into the recycle bin) resulting in two AOL icons, which I know is eventually gonna confuse them. It doesn't appear to be an alias. The old one doesn't work, but the new one (which IS an alias) does. Awesome. So getting rid of that icon would be pretty nice.

I'm also getting the following error message on startup:

"SmartBridge Alerts: MotiveSB.exe - Entry Point not found

I have no idea what program that is associated with. Anyway, here is my ... Read more

Welcome to TSG...You should wait for a malware expert to check your hijackthis log--they take a while sometimes, but they're well worth the wait.

In the meantime, deleting any instances of PSAPI.dll which are not in the Windows or Windows\system32 folder should clear the error--check for either a Motive or a SmartBridge folder in the Program Files directory--you'll probably find the offending file there.

I have been having a few problems with my computer over the last week. I have tried updating four applications (iTunes, Apple Safari, Adobe Reader, and Windows Media Player) and have gotten the message that the digital signature is invalid and the publisher was unknown and then it fails to install at all.
There was also a message coming up about a script error needing to be debugged but then when it tried to debug, it didn't do anything for over an hour. I had thought that there might be a possibility that I had gotten a trojan horse or something like it. I have Norton 360 though, and it hasn't caught anything.

-some sort of "wt" error pops-up.
-Icon in my system tray constantly forcing me to download RegistryCleaner 3.2

Problem: Any links in my browser redirect to a ame.avira URL including buttons in control panel. My computer was also noticeably slow
I noticed this problem when I turned my PC on "after trial version of malwarebytes premium ended". I don't know why malwarebytes premium trial was on in my PC maybe I forgot I turned it on. after which I noticed all links will proceed to the ame.avira URL. I searched on google and found it might be a virus. After a long time deciding I tried to system restore my PC. But when I did that I had the Blue Screen of Death. when I rebooted my PC, I decided to undo the System Restore. but when PC was turned on, it said the undo of system restore was not successful (I think I read a message that it was because of a security program? I am guessing it was my firewall as it prompted that system restore will change settings on my browser when the error message popped up). I did this like 2-3 times as I didn't know why I was doing that. I think it was at this step taken that I noticed that the malware is not affecting my PC, but still I decided to remove it. after which I was googling "ame.avira redirect" and saw one forum post in BC. I did what was posted there, specifically MiniToolBox, AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool.
By the time I read that it is not advisable to do these fixes without professional help, I am now too late. gladly my PC is doing well right now. But still I can't shake... Read more

Greetings, and welcome to TSF!

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. I have really picked up a bad virus or malware along the way. The PC has two user logins. One user has lost all access to desktop, programs, and files. The files are all still on the hard drive, but they can not be accessed from the first account. The second account is functioning at about 90%. There is a loss of access to some programs in the start menu because the shortcuts have been deleted and IE 8 has the following issues: search redirects, closes for no reason, and audio playing in the background without any additional applications appearing in the task manager.

I have run my antivirus in full scan mode with no luck. Where should I start to clean up this mess?

Try running RKill (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill), SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/)(UPDATING BEFORE SCANNING), and MalwareBytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/)(UPDATE BEFORE SCANNING) in this order.

Around 5 months ago, I purchased a new laptop (lenovo yoga 2 pro). The laptop has been great overall minus some scaling issues. It's snappy and everything. However, in the past 3 months I've experienced some serious slowness with the Chrome browser
1. Often times when i type into the address bar, the characters come out slow and laggy
2. Opening new tabs can lag as well
3. When i scroll down pages I often see the checkboarding effect. I imagine this is a placeholder while Chrome loads the rest of the content, but my internet speed is fast enough that it shouldn't be doing this.
4. Youtube works fine, but any other video site (apple trailers for example) lags as well. When videos play the actual video is sort of in slow motion while the audio plays at the normal rate.
5. Google maps is the slowest I've ever seen it. It takes forever to zoom in or do anything.
I've run virus and malware scans (spybot,  malwarebytes, SAS) but nothings coming up. I've also noticed similiar issues in Firefox as well.
I've also reinstalled Chrome a few times, but to no effect. This is kind of frustrating and I don't want to reimage my computer yet.
Any suggestions?

Never thought I'd have to post in here, but I suppose I was wrong.

I'll go over the various issues I've been experiencing for a few months now.

#1: System Tray Icons

Well, I have an idea on how I started thing issue. I was screwing around with Disk Cleanup and accidentally removed a few system utilities (like Paint and WordPad), but I fixed them and brought them back, so everything is reinstalled. However, I noticed that my system tray icons were different; most were missing. I assumed they would return after I reinstalled all of the missing utilities, but they didn't. Only once in a blue moon now do all of them start accordingly. Sometimes, when a tray icon SHOULD appear, like when I open a program that creates one, it doesn't, though my iTunes and mIRC icons always appear. Almost all of the tray icon processes are shown to be running when I open my task manager.

#2: Unable to Install the New Windows Live Messenger for XP

This one bothers me a lot more. I'm completely unable to install the new MSN, or any other Windows Live software for that matter. I received the notice from my WLM that unless I installed the update I couldn't use it, so I tried to get the updated version, and it appeared as if everything installed perfectly, it was at 100%, but it rolled back all its progress and didn't update/install anything, and it said that it didn't because "the installation was canceled". I tried running it again, and when I saw it w... Read more

A:Various Issues, Including Missing Tray Icons

Since we don't know exactly what you removed...nor do you...I suggest doing a repair install of XP.

I further suggest that not use any "registry cleaners" now or in the future on your system. I say this because they (typically) may remove/damage key system files.

I would also advise against downloading Microsoft files...from any website other than the MS site.

Hi guys,

This is my first post to this group. This is sort of "software/OS" issue, so I figured this would be the appropriate place to post this...please forgive me if it should be somewhere else. This is going to be rather long-winded, so bare with me, but I need to "back up" a bit an explain a few things.

My wife and I bought Windows 7 32-bit the night after it hit the shelves. On our desk computer, have NEVER had any issues with it at all, still to this day; it's been rock-solid and an amazing "new" OS. Around the same time, I bought an Acer Aspire 5536 with Vista, which I (as most) didn't care for, and was entitled to the "free upgrade to 7", which I promptly took advantage of. Since having it installed on my Acer, again, absolutely solid. No issues at all.

This is now two "7" DVD's that I haven't had any issues with. We took advantage, the short time this was available for the 3-license version of 7. Bought the package. This came with a 32-bit DVD AND a 64-bit as well.

This is where things started to get a little "weird".

My wife's laptop is a Toshiba Satellite P205D-S8804, in which that got the FIRST of the three available installs from the 32-bit disc. About a week or so after I had installed it, (BTW; "fresh" install, not upgrade) it started to freeze on her occasionally. These freezes were completely random; not really consistent with any "one" program or eve... Read more

Alright, so here's the deal. I've read plenty of tips on here and the net, none have worked fully. Below are the facts.

I have a wireless/wired router, with 5 connections. I have the IP addresses for each. 2 Are game consoles which aren't normally active, 2 are wired computers one is wireless.

I have the IP's of each, so my computer one of the two wired ones doesn't share, nor was it trying to share the same IP.

I have tried to power cycle the whole network numerous times. No result.

I have manually set the IP and DNS for my connection from tips I got on here, by finding the address to the DNS via another computer.

Allowing my computer to auto detect gets no results. I have tried IP config / all, /release, /newnew. Won't help.

At best, I was able to go on the web for a minute at a time, only to certain sites which don't load much and then I would have to repair my connection to resume, now it wont even do that. That result lasted for about an hour after first manually setting my IP.

I have gone to my router site by entering and no one else is in my system.

I have tried about 10 different manual IPs, by switching the end number, same result as before when entering the IP and DNS a slight result with no real use for browsing the net.

When I run auto or ipconfig, it sometimes says connected and wont receive packets and will go to limited.

The internet says it is connects 100Mbs and sending and receiving pac... Read more

I relied heavily on this forum about a month ago when my laptop wouldn't load my OS (Vista Home Premium)- I was getting a message of "operating system not found". After some research, I used rkill and MBAM to clean off the bankerfox.a and nuqel viruses. This seemed to due the trick. However, on Wed, when trying to start the laptop, Windows didn't load and I got the message "invalid system disk, replace the disk, then continue". After several attempts to get into safe mode produced no results, I was able to get in and select a previous restore point. Unfortunately, when I did this, I restored to a point when Vista SP2 was installed.

I used rkill and MBAM, but this didn't solve the problem. There may have been some things that showed up on rkill and MBAM the first time, but it didn't fix the problem. Rkill continues to identify "C:\Windows\system32\DllHost.exe" when run (it lists it twice) and MBAM shows nothing. Also, I ran Superantispyware and Spybot more than once, but they're not showing any results either (other than tracking cookies).

I've downloaded Hijack This and have a recent log if necessary. The problems have varied....at times it runs slow, other times (as now) not so much. Upon shut down, I often have a hard time getting the system back up. Yesterday I had significant problems getting into safe mode but not booting normally. At other times, I've not been able to boot normal... Read more

A:multiple issues, including "operating system not found"

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm still having problems....when I booted up this morning, I got "operating system not found" again. The first screen that comes up (the one that shows HP and the options - F1, etc.) hung and I had to power off and restart. After a few attempts, and a long boot up cycle, I was able to get in (wasn't able to get to safe mode, but could boot normally). I ran rkill (it showed the same results that it did in my previous post) and then MBAM found "C:\Users\Craig\AppData\Local\Temp\svchost.exe (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully." I ran Superspyware and it found an adware tracking cookie and a flash tracking cookie. Spybot found nothing. I seem to have the most problems when booting up first thing in the morning. Please help.

Hi all,

Dell Inspiron 1525, about 3 years old now, been overhauled twice already due to previous failures.
Vista 32bit

All processes are liable to hang, anything from opening folders, to running Chrome etc.

More often than not they will not respond.

Tried to open ESET to run a scan and it has done the same.

Holding ctrl+alt+delete to get to task manager up seems to push through these at times, but other times just leads to a black screen (which is what I'm looking at now).

A BSOD has appeared a few times now in the two days since the problems first arose.

It has also restarted of it's own volition at times, which prompts a memory diagnostics test if I recall correctly.

This all occurs in Safe Mode as well.

I opened up the back and unscrewed the filter to clear the fan, and saw that the part circled in red below looks to be melted.

Suggestions? Can this beaten up old crock o' shizzle be salvaged or should I just cut my losses?

If yes to the latter, what would you recommend for data recovery?

EDIT: I see that Safe Mode was hanging at AVGIDSEH.sys, googled it and it seems that it's a virus. Oh joy. Now it seems I have to get software to remove this onto a laptop on which I can't access the internet. Malwarebytes?

Well after some research, I finally found out why my PCI HSP56 MicroModem was not working on my P3VX4 Asus Motherboard. It goes as follows:

In Windows, peripheral component interconnect (PCI) devices can share IRQs. In accordance with the Plug and Play capability that is defined by the PCI specification, adapters are configured by the computer BIOS and are then examined by the operating system and changed if necessary. Typically, PCI devices have IRQs shared among them, especially on Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) computers that have Windows ACPI support enabled.

In Windows XP, Device Manager may list some or all the devices on your ACPI motherboard as using the same IRQ (IRQ 9). (To view the list of resources, click either Resources by type or Resources by connection on the View menu). No option is available to change the IRQ setting. Windows takes advantage of the ACPI features of the motherboard, including advanced PCI sharing. The PCI bus uses IRQ 9 for IRQ steering. With this feature, you can add more devices without IRQ conflicts.

Windows XP cannot rebalance resources in the same way that Microsoft Windows 98 does. After PCI resources are set, they generally cannot be changed. If you change to an incorrect IRQ setting or I/O range for the bus that a device is on, Windows XP cannot compensate by rebalancing the resource that was assigned to that bus.

Windows XP does not have this ability because of the more complex hardware schemas that Windows X... Read more

Main symptom is when browsing in Chrome, anytime I highlight text or click anywhere, a new tab opens with some ad page usually related to fixing my computer.  Here is a list of some of the URLs it displays:
Also, I have this application installed somehow (not intentionally): PC Fix Speed System Optemizer.  I've avoided clicking it or using any of its operations.
I also have a network attached storage server which is running a daily scan for viruses.  It seems to find a lot of them on files that seem like legitimate applications.  Snippet of those logs:
Virus found : 6Default action : quarantine
Infected files:
/bkp/NetBakData/[email protected]/VistaProfileData/AppData/Local/Temp/Temp1_PDFXVwer.zip/PDFXVwer.exe

My first reaction is to rely on the backup I've taken of all important files, and just reformat the hard drive, reinstalling the OS.  However, if there is a better approach I'm interested to learn about it.

Hi, I am not an experienced computer navigator so please explain things carefully (even if you think everyone knows these things).

My laptop is a few years old but has been working very well up until recently. It is TOSHIBA Satellite A135 S4527, I run Windows Vista.

Recently my laptop has been very slow and so I started scanning with Windows Essentials Scanner. This didn't seem to help (and would always come up as no threats). I downloaded Norton and also AVG Free 2012 Version. All of which would come back as no threats found, although I was sure there was a virus on my computer.

In the past few months my computer has shown:
--Windows Explorer stopped working (I would restart program, which takes a few seconds, but it would happen again soon after)
--Display driver has stopped responding and recovered
--A blue screen with illegible small numbers and usually accompanied by a high pitched noise (I usually turn off cold with power button, restart a few minutes later and it starts fine - this has happened while I was watching shows or on Skype, though I'm not sure it matters what I was doing at the time?)
--And now, finally, CD/DVD drive not responding and not even listed in the Device Manager

I am worried that my computer is going to crash completely very soon and would appreciate any help at all. I have scanned multiple times for viruses with no luck (or unluck, I suppose).

Please help =(

Hey guys,

I setup a mail server using the free hMailServer (Mail Transfer Agent). I managed to set everything up to work. Except one problem:

I can't access my mail server on port 25 from outside the network nor can I access other mail servers on port 25 from my network. It looks like it's not specific to my mail server as I have tried running listening on port 25 on a different computer but still can't seem to get a response from that port when doing a ping from the outside.

All my other ports work perfectly, everything is forwarded properly and the firewall is allowing connections.

I have spoken to my ISP countless times and they keep telling me that they do not block port 25 (both inbound and outbound).

But when I try to telnet a server such as hotmail, gmail and other ones on port 25 outside of my network I get a connection timeout and the samething happens when I try to telnet from the outside to my server on port 25.
BUT when I telnet to my ISP's port 25 from within my network then it successfully connects.

That brings me to the conclusion that my ISP is blocking the port.

So in conclusion, I am able to relay outgoing emails through my ISP's port 25 but not straight from my server to another server. And incoming emails do not work at all because other mail servers get a connection timeout when trying to connect to my port 25.

Do you guys have any suggestions because I have exhausted myself with this port 25 issue.

Firstly I am no n00b when it comes to operating systems.  I have been playing this game for more years than I care.  However this thing has got me well and truly stumped.

Not too long ago I believe my machine must have been hit with a rootkit virus of some sort.  I run AVG but for reasons it did not pick this up.  None the less, this has now been cleaned.

Initially it took out my network cards, my wirless, my firewall, renamed my machine with no name, and all sorts of fun things.  Good times, but now mostly resolved.  What I still don't have is internet access.

I am connected to my router (along with my other equipment), trusting in DHCP which works as it should.  I am running Windows 7 home edition (64 bit).  Now the fun part.....I am unable to ping anything by hostname.  Absolutely nada.
I can't can't ping localhost "Ping request could not find host localhost. Please check the name and try again.".  In fact I can throw anything I like in the host file and it will come up with the same error.

I can 100% ping everything via IP address, no issues.
I get 100% responses from nslookup.
I am unable to ping by hostname only.  This is somewhat troublesome as this prevents me from getting to the internet and other things.
I have reset winsock, I have reset tcp, I have uninstalled both my nics and reinstalled them, I have uninstalled SP1 and reinstalled it.  I suspe... Read more

im hoping you can help me as im having a multitude of issues here. i got infected with some random browser hijacks a couple weeks ago. i used a couple tools (malwarebytes, combofix ect.) which both found and removed some infections., but i have a feeling there are still lingering files and processes running.
Randomly, my computer will refuse to shutdown or reoboot. it will just stay on the shutdown screen forever until i manually hold down the button. I will get "task host window needs to close" every time too. My internet has been running extremely slow, and ive also noticed up to 3 to 4gb of ram being used when nothing is running. ive never had these problems until a cuple weeks ago.
here are my logs, thank you for reading!

I've been directed here from this post in the "Am I Infected? What Do I Do?" section. I've attached the FRST logs to this post.
I've had some strange PC problems over the last 6 weeks or so. Initially I thought it was a software problem, but now I'm beginning to think I've been infected.  The problems appear to be related to https and secure connections, though they vary in severity / type.
I'm on Win7 32 bit Professional with SP1
Outlook kept crashing when using MS Exchange connection (pop3 only was ok)
VPN wouldn't connect, then crashed
Chrome wouldn't serve https pages. They just gave me ERR_TIMED_OUT after 2 mins or so.
(One example - my bank's http home page would load, but when I tried to login to online banking, that page wouldn't).  More details here fwiw.
Browser downloads refusing to complete - sometimes they stop halfway, other times at 100% but without completing
The symptoms are not consistent - sometimes it's just one, other times the whole lot. Sometimes none at all.   The https browser problem varies - sometimes I can't get https pages at all, other times they're just very slow loading.
What I've Tried
Initially I ran MBAM, adwcleaner, SuperAntiSpyware, JRT and ESET online scanner. I didn't see anything particularly bad in there, but that appeared to fix the problem. Until a week later I began having trouble again. Just Outlook this time.  B... Read more

A:Possible infection? Various small problems including https connection issues

Since posting this I have spent more time looking into the https problems.  I'm still getting problems with VPN and Outlook from time to time.  Browser issues appear to be limited to Chrome (FF is ok).
Therefore following the instructions on this page, I took these steps:
Checked Proxy Settings - There seems nothing untoward here, I'm pretty sure it's not a proxy issue
Flushed the DNS from command line (ipconfig/flushdns)
Removed any broswer add ons / extensions
Released and renewed IP address from the command line (ipconfig/release  and  ipconfig/renew)
Uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome
Cleared browsing history, temp files & cleared cache
Tried turning off antivirus (AVG) and firewall (Win firewall)
I did notice something odd when pinging.
The first packet always timed out (25% loss).  I read that this is to be expected when pinging an address for the first time in a while, but that a second ping immediately after should not do this.
But I get this every time I ping anything - including my router ( and network card (  From my limited understanding it appears as if nothing is being stored in the ARP cache. I have tried clearing the ARP cache but this didn't make any difference.
