Probook 6560b BIOS issue with update from FLASH drive

Q: Probook 6560b BIOS issue with update from FLASH drive

Hello, Here is the problem that I've encountered with my laptop HP 6560b. My HDD has crashed and is beyond repair. I've went into the store and bought new HDD-SSD (Samsung 840 pro). I've replaced crashed HDD with new SSD. But to no joy. During WIN7 installation I've came to part where I need to select place where I want to have my new OS. Thing is it's can't be read. So I've dig around the internet and found out that BIOS is issue with these new SSDs. So I've decided to update my BIOS. BIOS is currently on versio 68SCE Ver. F.08 I've downloaded latest version of BIOS sp62738 from HP Support Center I've unpacked sp62738.exe and started HPQFlash. Through menu I've setup FLASH for update. Folder structure of FLASHHP_TOOLS\HEWLETT-PACKARDcontains following folder structure BIOS BiosUpdatewithin BIOS folder there are two more folders and some BIN and SIG files Current .BIN .SIG New .BIN .SIGand within BiosUpdate CryptRSA.efi CryptRSA32.efi HpBiosUpdate.efi HpBiosUpdate32.efi HpBiosUpdate.log HpBiosUpdate.s09 HpBiosUpdate32.s09 HpBiosUpdate.s12 HpBiosUpdate32.s12 HpBiosUpdate.sig HpBiosUpdate32.sig I've sticked FLASH into Laptop and rebooted. I've got the message 'BIOS update failed to update' (or something like that) and I had option just to reboot. LOG file on FLASH had this with in. HpBiosUpdate.txt (logfile from root)09/01/13 22:44:57 EFI HP BIOS Update 2.7.1.0 Started09/01/13 22:44:57 Failed init of SMBIOS data and HpBiosUpdate.txt (log file from BiosUpdate folder)09/01/13 22:44:57 HP BIOS Image Interface Protocol Version 1.009/01/13 22:44:58 BattInit: Protocol 2010.09/01/13 22:44:59 All Required Protocols Located09/01/13 22:44:59 Lang reported as eng.09/01/13 22:45:00 Language Selected is currently (eng).09/01/13 22:45:00 Failed Reading BIOS Image Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New\68SCE.bin I can see that it can't read 68SCE.bin, but I can't see that file in New as explaned above new folder contains only .BIN .SIG Should I rename these bins and sigs to 68SCE? Has anyone encountered problem like this before with this model and version of BIOS? Please advise and thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When you executed the download BIOS softpaq, did you create a flash bootable key at that point? i assume you used another computer to do that? If you created a bootable usb key from the BIOS softpaq, you will see 3 files 68SCF.BINeRompaq.exegpl2.txt You can then insert the key no the laptop usb port and reboot to upgrade the BIOS. Is this what did not work?

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R KAlthough I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

I have been looking into upgrading my ProBook 6560b recently. I've started to do more video and photo editing for my side business. So I want to upgrade my RAM to 16GB total and upgrade my current 250GB SATA II hard drive to a 512GB SATA III SSD. My current BIOS version is F.63 and I have heard about these notebooks being really unreliable with SSD upgrades in the past. I dont see the point in upgrading to an SSD if I can only utilize it as a 3Gb/s speed which is SATA II speed. Does this lastest BIOS version (F.63) support using an SSD at the 6Gb/s SATA III speed or will I have to run the SSD at 3Gb/s? Also, can I run 16GB of RAM in my machine or will it only run with up to 8GB or RAM? Thank you!

hi, i recently purchased a hp probook 6560b and wanted to give it an upgrade by replacing the standard 500gb 7200rpm hdd with a 120gb force gt ssd. but the notebook doesn't recognize the ssd at all, it says no drive is installed. the notebook has the latest bios available and the ssd has the most recent firmware. i know the ssd isn't defective because it works just fine in my desktop pc. hopefully one of you guys can help me out. thanks in advance.

A:probook 6560b does not recognize my SSD

When the BIOS doesn't detect an ssd, it's probably caused by the voltage of the ssd. I have noticed that some Probooks and Elitebooks have this issue but nobody could find a proper solution. I would contact the BIOS manufacturer..

Hi, I was working on my HP probook 6560b last week and i set it to Sleep after an hour during which time i also slept. I woke up the following day but my laptop refused to wake up, the charging light (bolt indicator) will be flashing whenever i connect the power supply or the battery. I have removed both battery and power supply and press the power button for approximately 20sec without success. An urgent help is needed to resolve this as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation.

A:HP Probook 6560b won't power on

We've had a similar issue with our Probooks.  Below are troubleshooting steps we've taken: Removed batteryPlugged in (via power cord)Turned on. Fan running. NO video. Caps light blinking. Can't ping.No response to Ctrl-Alt-DelNo response to pressing/holding power buttonUnplugged. Plugged back in.Turned on. Boots OK. Logged in.Replaced battery. Turned on again. All appears OK.Nothing in the event logs to indicate a critical failure. We've had these steps work for some of the laptops, but others simply offer no response at all.  Then HP sends a box for us to ship laptop for repair and they replace the system board. Of the 250+ of these we've ordered, I'd say we're looking at a 5% fail rate so far (they're 2 months old).

Hello Experts, Trying to improve the behaviour of my laptop (Probook 6560b), I've tried to install a SSD instead of the CD unit, by using a Caddy. All good, but the SSD is not installed since it was not validated in the Bios.As the admin account was not implemented at the initial setup of the system, I have no password to recover. Also the fingerprint or the stupid questions were not activated.I use the BIOS pass three times with no error code. The CMOS reset doesn't help, either. So, if you please can help me with the clear BIOS which can help me re-start the admin registration, that will be a great help. Thank you,Emil.

Hi guys I bought Plextor M5S 256gb few days ago. With the latest bios f.40 it was working as SATA2 even when SATA3 in Bios was set. So I have started to looking for some solution and I found one In 6560b we have the same bios like for example 8560p and some 8560p owner tried to downgrade f.40 bios version to f.20 (can be found on 8560p page) and it solved his problem with SATA2 ! So I did the same and here is the result: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc142/DziubekR1/Beznbsptytu1420ubmp_zpsc010cba5.jpg As we can see, the result is much, much better, but to be honest, still worst then I could seen in reviews. I see that in f.20 bios there is no option to change SATA 2 or SATA 3 like in f.40, it is changed automatic. In f.40 we can chosse, but with my HDD it doesn`t matter whether it was SATA2 or SATA3 set in bios, it was always working as SATA2. The question is why HP did something like that with the latest bios. If there was some problem with SATA3 that we don`t know about, why they gave us the choice between SATA2 and SATA3 in f.40 ? For now it is working without any problems, but maybe we don`t know everything  BTW I was looking for some solution to make my 6560b silent and I found a great program - " TPFanControl by troubadix", version for 4530s works great with our 6560b. You can try it

Hello everybody,

My name is lightyears_away from the Netherlands and I'm having trouble with my HP ProBook. It is running very slowly at startup and during general use. Sometimes I have to wait 10 - 20 seconds after clicking on an application before something happens. Also, when I open the start menu for the first time after start up, I see that the icons of all programs are not yet rendered. An other thing: when I shut down the system, I often get the message that some program is still running and it may be forced to shut down.

Today I have done an extensive malware/adware/virus sweep with several programs and with Ccleaner. Certain files were deleted but I haven't experienced any improvement. I am wondering whether there is some bug/error in my system configuration that is slowing it down.

Maybe one of you heroic experts here could be so kind to advice me on how to improve the performance of my system? I would be very thankful!

A:HP ProBook 6560b on Windows 7 running very slow

First thing I suggest:  Run the chkdsk /r command on the C: partition.

Appears that you have a Dupplica service running...yet no app appears to be installed.  My guess would be that this may account for the VSS errors, since Dupplica seems to assert its own VSS, while Windows has VSS as a native function.  I would disable the currently running Duplicca VSS service.

Hi, guys again !I have another hot and pain in the ass issue. In notebook HP probook 6560b originaly primary disk was Western digital Scorpio black 500GB, but I change them to SSD Kingstone 200V 30GB. I set up boot from optical drive and try installing OS (Win7), however win setup couldnt install because of: 1st-missing drivers, 2nd-disk couldnt see, 3rd-lagy/slowly setup and freeze.. I try set up ahci and ide - didnt work. I bought hdd icy box instead of optical drive and put in SSD with preinstalled OS. It boot fine, after switch on notebook and then hard switch off. Switch on again, with pressing f10. But, if I install 500GB hdd to primary SATA slot for disk, HP bios want only boot from it. It doesnt matter what I set in boot priority, every start up wants boot from 500GB hdd. So, I try install xubuntu 16.04 on 500GB hdd and try set up GRUB boot menu. In OS Xubuntu works SSD fine, but If I want boot win7 fron menu, says no such device.. I try upgrade grub, but nothing change. So, does a HP ProBook 6560b accepts SSD drives? Some solution?

I am trying to update the system bios to F.09 Rev A.  The HP support site instructs me to copy the new BIOS to a flash drive, turn off the machine, place the flash drive in a USB slot and turn it back on.  I assume it is supposed to boot from the flash drive, but it does not; it boots normally from the C: drive.  How do I force it to use the flash drive to update the BIOS?  Thanks.

I need to update the bios in this laptop. HP 14-ac104la http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-14-Notebook-PC-series/8499318/model/9043679 I downloaded the bios from hp driver´s support site for my model: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74826.exe and says it can´t do it in windows so I need to use a USB drive. I put a 16 Gb usb jump drive and just copies the many .bin files and no flash executable. So anyway I insert it and change settings to boot from usb drive and nothing happens.  Not happy with the results I thought the usb I had used it was too big. So I changed to a 64 Mb kingston memory. Again, the result is the same. HP doesn´t make any good stuff these days anymore?! Being in the tech industry as tech support for the last 20 years I have seen many stupidity. This is one of those ! I also tried creating a usb boot disk using  HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3 and boot98 nothing happened again! SO I beg your help in order to update this bios under win 7 pro 64 bits with the laptop above specified Thanks in advance for any help you could provide me!

Oh yes! I also couldn´t find a bios forum to post this issue so I posted it here in boot discussions. Any moderator feel free to move it to the proper section! thanks

Hello. I have W7T04EA 15-bc000ur (shipped with FreeDos), I downloaded BIOS update file sp76810.exe, ran it on another PC with Windows, it created USB flash drive with label HP_TOOSL and "Hewlett-Packard" directory and shown a note that I should insert it into the laptop and boot. I inserted it into laptop, boot, but nothing happened. I tried press Esc and choose system recovery but nothing happened too. What I do wrong? p.s.note that I already installed linux, so I have factory partitions removed from primary drive.

Hey, I've been trying to install Windows Server 2012 R2 for a school project. Sadly, on the HP ProBook 6560b Notebook I've run into a problem with finding the Network Adaptor.  Here's the following driver installs used:-sp54548-sp54549-sp60775 Also, the Intel install for this model's network adapter. All have failed and power cycling didn't contribute. I've seen in past forums this has a solution but all are dead links or a link to the HP Support page that doesn't list WIndows Server 2012 but every other WIndows OS and Linux. I ONLY NEED THE ETHERNET TO WORK. Thank you.

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try the W8.1 ethernet driver.  Try manually installing it if the auto install method doesn't work. This package contains the driver installation package for the Intel 82579LM and 82579V Gigabit Ethernet Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63881.exe ...and you tried the driver directly from Intel?  I'm surprised that didn't work either. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23073/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-Server-2012... You may want to use the free file utility, 7-Zip and use it to extract the exe file into its driver folder and browse to it from the ethernet controller in the device manager and see if it installs that way.

Hi, I have just installed Win 7 Ult x64 on my laptop. Then I have installed all the drivers needed from HP website and I have installed ESET NOD32 Antivirus. When using my computer I have registered two BSOD so far (it is 12 hours from installation).

The problem:
It is not exactly BSOD which I can see.
I command my PC to shut down - it starts to shut down - there is a sign Shutting down... for maybe 20 minutes and the PC then restarts. When it logs into the Windows a dialog appears that the system recovered from serious error, bsod giving error number 1000009f.

Please, control my dump files. I suspect some of the drivers as HP drivers support is everytime very bad.

Thanks a lot!

This is a follow-up to my original 8/22/16 question. I used the helpful responses and Dell.com but could not install the first BIOS update from A04.
I obtained relevant information and BIOS update files from Dell.com. The first update, from A04 (10/17/13) to A03 (yes!, 11/20/13) can only be done using a bootable USB flash drive, not via Windows, so I made a 16GB USB drive from the XPS 8700 according to the instructions provided. Dell's instructions for booting from it to execute the A03 update file that I had added to it indicate that pressing F12 during the Dell splash logo at power-up will take me to the One Time Boot Menu where I can select the USB Storage Device option and go to a Diag C:\ prompt to run the update. But when I press F12 I get a different menu headed "Boot mode is set to: UEFI: Secure boot: ON". It has no USB Storage Device option. Every option I have tried leads only to a Windows sign-in page, not a DOS prompt. I found a reference to a similar situation at
http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19469914
but it did not include a proven solution. I suspect that I might need to switch from UEFI Secure Boot to Legacy BIOS but am reluctant to do risky experiments that could brick the PC. I would be grateful for input from any community member who has used a successful procedure for updating the UEFI/BIOS to the next later edition from a bootable USB  flash drive (or safely doing jump updates from A04 directly to later edi... I haven't tested all the different file systems, but it appears that it is possible to boot from only FAT(16) and FAT32 file systems in UEFI boot mode on USB flash drives on my new Dell Inspiron 7567. I spent about half an hour trying to figure out why Windows wasn't installing in UEFI mode, until I realised the laptop's BIOS was booting the drive in legacy boot mode.Could we please make it possible to boot from NTFS-formatted drives in future BIOS revisions, given that this has been the standard with most other manufacturers for a number of years?  And yes, this does matter to those of us wishing to put files >4GB on their USB boot drive. BIOS revision of the Dell is the latest at this time (v1.2.0). Thank you.

A:BIOS update required: USB bootable flash drive file system

FAT32 has been the UEFI standard.  Even the System partition on the install is FAT 32.  I don't know for sure but I believe it has to be able to run certain types of programs and cannot be NTFS..
Most places which explain how to set up a Boot USB drive for UEFI mentions it has to be FAT32.
FAT 32 formatting for USB drives is good up to 32 GB drive sizes.  Larger ones will just create a 32 GB partition.

I bought this HP Probook 455 G3 and it has just run out of warranty which I intend to renew very soon. I don't like 8.1 or 10 so I spent more than I wanted to and I bought a new Windows 7 lappy that is a business laptop. I always do the recommended updates that I receive by E mail but one I never do which is the Bios update. The last time I did a Bios update on this lappy it wouldn't fire up afterwards. Rang tech help and after going through some troubleshooting it went back for repair. It came back working and luckliy i didn't have many pictures on it.Started from scratch and haven't had a problem since. I am now scared to do the Bios update. And.... Beofre I bought this laptop I bought a Windows 8.1 from HP direct . Hardly use it but update virus protection as necassary and last week there was a Bios update to perform. I also took out another 2 years warranty on it. Same think happened. Last week in fact. Wouldn't fire up afterwards. Again Tech help tried to help but in the end after frequent crashes it went in for repair on Friday. Good job I took out the extra warranty... I am now down to 1 laptop which I do not want to fail on me. I don't seem to have much luck with the Bios updates... Advice please? Is the Bios absolutely essential?

The update file seems to be OK, the file unpacks, then the programme runs, the system restarts at the end, but the BIOS is still the same.I tried on my own account and the system administrator too.I tried also do a bootable pendrive with update software, but while starting the system says, that it can't find any bootable disk. As I saw the pendrive on the file manager, there are some files on it, I mean the pendrive is not empty after doing it as bootable (of course using HP update software).

Hello everybody. I have probook 450 G0 with Intel i7 and i update bios to last version to F64 from f61 and suddenly notebook are unable to wake from sleem, after long blank screen follow reboot. Our Czech support is absolutely incompetent to solve this problem, they told me again and again that i have unsupported OS etc... but I think there is not problem in OS, there is a problem in a new version of BIOS, because in the old version F61, there is no problem with any version of windows. I use windows 10 x64 and this problem start after bios upgrade. I try bios downgrade via recovery (win+B) after power up, but this way came with blank screen and max fan RPM and Czech support told me that this is the last version of the BIOS adn there is no way to recovery or roll back. I am so sad with our support and I would like to ask everyone in worlwide support HP if is any way to roll back to stable version F61. Today I received update  my win10 to new version 1703, but after reboot installation stuck at 32% and max fan RPM. I am very satisfied with my laptop, but after bios upgrade I want to throw my noteook out from the close window. Please anyone who can help me? Thank you so much and sorry for my english. D.
