I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Are you trying those keys on startup or on restart? If you've only tried on startup, try on restart - or on startup after a full shutdown (SHIFT + shut down).

You could also try the advanced startup options from within windows.

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled.https://support.lenovo.com/sg/de/solutions/ht117858 Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

Hi, I saw the new BIOS version 1.25 dated ?14?.?09?.?2016 appearing on Lenovos support site. I did not check the version I was having on my system before downloading the "new BIOS", so I started the installer and the tool told me I already have this BIOS version. msinfo32.exe tells me I am having BIOS 1.25 dated 13.07.2016. So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

I recently purchased a T450s.  It shipped with BIOS versoin 1.18.  I downloaded and ran the application to upgrade the BIOS to version 1.18, but it appears the new version is not being applied.  My system still shows BIOS version 1.17. What could be the cause of this issue?

A:T450s BIOS Update to 1.18 not working

HiHave you read the BIOS upgrade related readme.txt file? There are several important requisitions:- Lenovo recommends to install the USB 3.0 driver for Windows (Version 1.4.0.225 or higher) prior to updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS requires the modification in the USB 3.0 driver to fix USB 3.0 related issues.- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack.- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the UEFI BIOS in the remote deployment environments.- Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account on the target computer.- Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to the target computer.

HelloI brought a used T450s on ebay to use it here in Switzerland. It is a US-Modell with US-Keyboard and a too small SSD. After upgrading the SSD and replaced the Keyboard with a CH-DE Version, none of my Passwords will be accepted in the BIOS anymore. I replaced the Keyboard to the US-Version, but same Issue. I have the luck, that I set the Fingerprint scanner as "Power-On"-Password, so I can use the Thinkpad. But I simply cant change or delete these Passwords in the BIOS (even after the newest Update). I know what I set for Passwords for sure, the worked every time. Without the Fingerprint sensor I could put away my T450s. Does anybody knows how to clear all Passwords in the BIOS (even if TPM, and all the other settings will be cleared at the same time)? Many thanks in advance!Robert

A:Clear all Passwords in BIOS on T450s

hi rjet, i had a similar problem on asus notebook 2 years ago: your original password (for example) 1234ZYHC generated with US keyboard can easily become (for example) 1693YZLC if typed with CH-DE keyboard. so i would first open notepad and type the exact password - if something is wrong, you have to try to type all characters untill you find the exact ones.

(BIOS version 2.46) Within our company we've had a bunch of Thinkpad T440s and T450s laptops continuosly BSOD, and the only connection I've found so far, which was from checking these forums, is the recent BIOS update. Any thoughts or experience with this would be appreciated.  Cheers, JasonS19

We're planning to push BIOS updates to all our systems in the near future. However, in testing we've noticed that some systems will fail installation with error code 211. The problem seems to be related to a changed BIOS logo, since when ran manually, the updater asks if it should overwrite the existing logo or keep it. This seems to cause problems when you run the BIOS update executable "winuptp64.exe" with the "-s" (silent) argument. Is there a solution to this, like an argument that forces overwriting of logo or keep existing? Full error log:[2018/1/24 11:40:47] version 25.26

This is request to Thinkpad software development team. As showed by this long forum thread:http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/w550s-t550-lcd-screen-replacement-brightness-set-at-max.7741... Some Intel core 5th gen Thinkpads like T450, T450s, T550, W550s has display panel whitelist in their BIOS which will cause brightness control not working in Windows if user installed display panel which isn't in the whitelist. The whitelist is based on the display EDID and are put inside the bios. There is no way to circumvent the whitelist without flashing the display's EEPROM (by altering the EDID) or patching the BIOS which are not easy thing to do for normal people. So I hope Thinkpad dev team could release a BIOS update to remove the whitelist code. Because if not, this whitelist issue will hurt the sell value of those thinkpads. As if the screen is defective, finding the replacement display panel will be very difficult. As time goes by, who knows in future no one will produce the whitelisted lenovo panel anymore, then those thinkpads (with defective screen) would lose their sell value. Thinkpad is most known for its repairability, so I hope this feat can be maintaned.

Hello. I recently installed a Samsung 950 Pro in the P50.After some problems during the installation it seems to work fine, but.... The 950 pro supports AES Hardware encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard, Class0 SED).I also was able to use it with a normal SSD before. After I installed the 950 NVMe, the option for setting a harddrive Password inside the BIOS just vanished.  am not able to set any harddrive passwort and thus use encryption. Every other PW seems to work fine...I would like to ask why that happened there and I hope that some of you may be able to help me with that. Thank you very much,Greetz

A:Thinpad P50, Samsung 950 pro and password security

While 950 Pro presumably supports AES on hardware level (i.e. all data is encrypted prior being written on the flash chips), key management is still "to be supported by FW update" ( http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/ssd950pro/specificatio... ) If you want to encrypt your 950Pro, use Bitlocker or other third-party encryption solution. There is a performance and SSD wear cost associated with that, but it's negligible for most applications.

Hello, My Thinkpad Yoga (model year 2014-2015) gives sometimes a white screen by startup, or after a softclose (for example when turn over from laptop to tablet mode). When I open and close my screen after a couple of times the screen is ok and I can work with it. I called Lenovo support because I think it is something with the connector from the screen to the motherboard. The computer was 2 months out of warranty so they say that I could send it to support for a check, what will cost me a lot of money for only analyse the issue. So I asked for another solution. They asked me to reinstal Windows and al the drivers, because they think that it is a software issue. Because there is a lot of software on my computer, and I need him every day for my work, I didn't have time to do this directly (first make a backup and then reinstall al the software). So I bought a new Lenovo thinkpad Yoga 260, and installed al my software. A:Solved: Dual Monitor on IBM Thinpad 770x

Dusty,

Do not confuse "external monitor" with "DUAL Monitor". The latter is what you apparently want. The former is what you have.

You can Google: Thinkpad 770 external monitor

and view item:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=PFAN-3PVSCN

which will confirm what you have with the 770.

Hi, Have you tried to update your WLAN driver? System Update is a good tool to detect drivers and helps you to update them:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080136 I would try that first and if it still has the problem, try to respond with: - Operativing system (x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit)) (See Control Panel -> System)- Product Number (P/N)

In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

HI, Please skip to paragraph six for the actual issue I am having--the preceding paragraphs include info that may help to identify how to fix this. I am posting this using my HP desktop running Windows 7 as my Lenovo Ideapad 110 cannot connect to internet as explained below: Firstly, Sorry if I am breaking community guidelines in any way with this post. I have tried F2 DEL F8 F12 just about all the F combinations and nothing works, I have two SSD drives one with Win7 Pro and one with Win10 Pro (not connected at the same time) and neither of them will boot up.
I have tried changing the jumper pins from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 for 10 sec to clear the RTC Ram in CMOS then returned then to 1 and 2 and tried rebooting...no change so i removed the battery and repeated the jumper pin swap then reinstalled the battery and still no change, cannot get passed press DEL or F2 to access the BIOS settings.
I even downloaded the latest BIOS and updater as shown and put them on a USB flash drive together and tried the Macrium Rescue disk, and still nothing happened and it will not open the BIOS maybe i got it all wrong ?
I was hoping someone here might know how to put it right, i am out of idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good evening!
A week ago I reinstalled Windows 7 in EFI mode on my laptop, and now I've got this problem: whenever I turn on my computer after a shutdown, the BIOS says "System Resuming" instead of "Press F2 to enter settings". This makes impossible for me to access BIOS settings. Previously, my BIOS used to say "System Resuming" only after a hibernation. The weird fact is that - as far as I remember - this thing started happening only after a few days.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance :-)

Hello:

I just got an ASUS X401a Notebook and I want to use a flash drive to boot from Linux.
I need to change the sequence in the BIOS so that the flash drive is first choice to boot from.
I have no problem accessing the BIOS utility, but it allows me to alter only some settings. Those in blue colored font I can change those in black font I cannot. What drive to boot from first is in black and not adjustable.
I used command line to work as admin and I also set up a password for admin in the BIOS to access the BIOS utility, but still no go; some things are allowed to be changed some aren't.

Any help is appreciated.

I am having some errors causing crashes on occasion. Thats not what I am here for today though I can deal with that later. When my comp starts to reboot I can't seem to access BIOS, if I can access the Boot Order by hitting F12 I have no control whatsoever on the choices no up or down or even hitting enter works. Also when I go into Error Recovery Console the same thing no controls whatsoever I can make, no arrow keys or hitting any keys work and I have to just sit there and let it choose whatever it defaulted to. I have re-installed Windows 7 but the problem persists. Would really appreciate your help.

A:Unable to access arrow keys or any controls in Error Recovery Console or access BIOS

I would suspect that your bios is not loading the keyboard or mouse, except for your only reference to the error recovery console? Do you mean you have the controls elsewhere, but not there?
But, if the loss is general, the quickest way is to reset the bios. You would normally do this by locating the small bios battery on the motherboard. Remove this and, in its vicinity (better if you browse or refer to a manual for the motherboard!) there will be a small three pin tag, with a joiner across two of the pins. Move the joiner to the other two pins for about one minute, This will return the bios to defaults. If you cannot locate this pin, you will have to leave the computer, with the battery out for quite a while - I would guess possibly over 24 hours, to reset the bios.
But, before, You do not say how you have tried to access the bios? (DEL on startup: F2 on startup are two choices)

After upgrading to W10 I also uppgraded the bios.  Booting is successfull but the "ESC"-option to enter Bios does not appear.  Tapping ESC or F10 has no effect. The booting proceeds and W starts. If however I press either one of them continously after power on the unit starts beeping and has to be shut off. I have emptied the CMOS by removing the RTC battery and pressing the power button for 30 secs.  With and without the main battery inserted. No change. Any suggestions anyone?

Hey @ossian,  I would like to welcome you to the HP Support Community. If my reply resolves your issue or answer your question(s),  please let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. I understand that you did a BIOS upgrade after the Windows 10 upgrade but it did not take well to your HP Pavilion dv5-1058eo Entertainment Notebook PC. Many HP Notebooks have an HP BIOS Restore tool that may recover the BIOS from an earlier version and restore basic functionality. Please follow the documentation to do a BIOS reset.  Have you tried to perform a hard reset?Which BIOS version did  you upgrade to? Have you tried to disable fast startup? Although this site is not affiliated with HP, it has some great step by step instructions on disabling fast startup. The topic is called Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10.  You can try following the below steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup Settings:In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.Select Load Setup Defaults.Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with any information you think may help me find a r... Read more

I have a T450S laptop. It came with 8 GB of RAM (4 on the board and 4 GB SO-DIMM). I replaced the SO-DIMM with a Crucial 16GB one. When I look at the system information, it indicates that I have all 20 GB of RAM available. I recently asked the computer to do a relatively big, but not that big, processing job that took a long time (14 minutes). While it was crunching, I checked the resource monitor and it indicated that only 3.9 GB of the RAM were being used and that  ~16GB were available - but the extra 16 wasn't being used, just sitting there being available. When the processing completed, the resource monitor still says that 3.5 GB are being used with "regular" computing - so basically, nothing was different with the big job compared to just ordinary tasks. How do I make the computer use all of the memory that it has? I've looked all over for some sort of setting.?

The laptop is new. I am using Windows 10, nothing special: browsing, reading, etc. But CPU temperature is very often above 50 degrees. So, the fan turns on.

A:T450s: fan is on more often than not

Setting BIOS thermal management option to "balanced" helps very slightly.

According to this website: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Overview-of-M-2-SSDs-586/m.2 slot comes in different flavors (SATA III, PCI-E 2.0 x2, PCI-E 2.0 x4 and PCI-E 3.0 x4) I would like to know what is the supported protocols for the T450s laptop. I'm asking this questions becauce I would like to buy a m.2 SSD disk to replace the "too small" 16GB that I have and I would like to know if it's worthwhile buying the Samsung SM951 that supports PCI-E 3.0 x4. Thank you.

A:T450s m.2 SSD

Good day and welcome to the community.

Apologies that I can't answer the SATA vs PCI-E portion of your question with any certainty. I can say, though, that the SM951 won't fit physically in your machine. That SSD is a 22x80mm form factor (2280) while your machine takes the 22x42 form factor (2242).

Please have a look at your hardware manual:
http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t450s_hmm_en_sp40g54937.pdf
where manual page 66 describes removal / installation.

Then, have a look at the FRU BOM:
http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t450s_frubom_20150126.pdf
and on the last page you'll see the only factory part listed is the 16GB M.2 2242 SSD normally used for caching (I believe).

You should still be able to install a higher capacity 2242 M.2 SSD in that slot, though. The largest M.2 2242 SSD I've seen is also 256GB, but I haven't searched exhaustively.

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

I have an old Compaq 5WV280 running XP Home w/ SP2. I need to change th eboot order but can't seem to get to the bios. I've tried every combination of F-key, ESC, alt ...trying to find the magic key, but no luck. Does anyone know what the correct combination is?

One clue: I use a Logitech wireless keyboard. Could that keep me from accessing it?
