Q: USB device connected to port but I can't see device in My Computer

my hdd usb 3.0 and my printer hp photosmart don't apperar and they appear on the device manager.

Preferred Solution: USB device connected to port but I can't see device in My Computer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there
I've noticed that when I connect a USB2 external drive to a USB3 port it actually performs better than when even on a "Hi-Speed" USB2 port. -- transfer rate from USB2 to HDD is around 10 - 15 Mb/s faster than when on a USB2 port.

I have two USB3 slots on my computer -- I have a Targus USB3 powered hub connected to one of the ports and connect the USB2 disk to the USB3 hub.

If you have any legacy USB2 disks it's probably worth connecting to the USB3 port --seems in my case to work much better.

Not sure if you mix USB2 and USB3 disks on the same hub though -- might try that later.

A:USB2 device performs faster if connected to USB3 port !!

also noted that my native USB2 ports copy faster than Windows 7 used to.
Used to get 22MB/s, now getting 27MB/s.
Same hardware. That can only be good

Hi All,
I am writing code for handheld device using WinCE.

My problem is, i have to read/write a text file from/to a desktop machine to the handheld device, which is connected through serial port of desktop machine.

please help me anyone to find out the solution of it.

I have tried to connect the device to the desktop machine but how to read a specified file which is on desktop location from here.

A:Reading/Writing data from/To Handheld device which is connected through serial port

Do you want the device to read a file from the PC or the PC to send a file to the device? These two approaches are fundamentally different.

If you want the device to read that file without user interaction, then you have to write a special device driver or a monitor program that would listen for requests from your device and provide the file.

I have ASUS P8Z77 ?V motherboard and the front USB 3.0 headers are not working when I plug in a USB 3.0 device. When I plugged in my Kingston USB 3.0 Flash Drive into the front USB 3.0 header it didn't work. As in, when I tried to move a file into the flash drive, the drive disappears and it makes that USB unplugged sound. But if I connect it to any back USB 3.0 ports, it works fine.

But, if I plug in my Scandisk USB 2.0 Flash drive into the front USB 3.0 ports, it works without any errors.

This only happens with USB 3.0 devices and it has to be connected to front USB 3.0 ports.
I have installed all the latest drivers and updated my BIOS to the latest one. I have checked if USB 3.0 is enabled in BIOS.

I asked to my friend to help me. He has AMD rig with ASUS M5a99X EVO motherboard, which has a front USB 3.0 header. We installed all AMD drivers for his rig updated everything, the front USB 3.0 ports worked fine. We manage to transfer all the files at full-speed on to the Kingston 3.0 flash drive without any errors, so I know it?s not my PC case?s USB 3.0 cable at fault.

Any help. Please note the front USB 3.0 ports work if I plug in a USB 2.0 device.

A:My front USB 3 port doesn't read USB 3 device, but reads USB 2 device

Hi dino1989,

I checked the motherboard manual and it talks about only 2 USB 3.0 ports; appears that it offers 2 USB 3.0 port connectors at the back panel:

Please take a glance at the motherboard layout. Connectors highlighted (11) are 10-1 pin USB56, USB78 & USB910. These connectors are used for USB 2.0 ports (9 ports) at the rear panel. If the 2 USB ports in front are also connected to there, they may comply with USB 2.0 specification and would support upto 480 Mbps connection speed. (Tried but could not find anything in the manual that gives a clue about the source of the USB ports in the front).
However, you may go to 'Onboard Devices Configuration' and try setting 'USB 3.0 Controller' as [Enabled] in 'BIOS' to see if that gets the USB 3.0 ports functional in the front panel. This 'Enables / Disables' the USB 3.0 controller.

To access 'motherboard BIOS', you may want to refer to this manual: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...5A78L-USB3.pdf

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Hi,So i'm working on a Envy LT that was upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 recently and there is this message on the log in screen "The device is not connected to the computer. Please insert the authentication device." We can't seem to identify what this means or what needs to be done to clear this screen. The users states that the BIO finger print sensor doesn't seem to work either. I looked in the Device Manger and I see a Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) listed here and is installed correctly. I even updated the FP sensor driver from the Envy's support site and we still see this on the log in screen.  Is there any information or help to clear this message?  Also we notice that the number lock on the key board seems to be disabled during windows 10 boot up. Before on windows 8.1 it was enabled. Is there any setting in 10 to keep the number lock enabled.  The user states if 10 can't be made to work well, then we may revert back to 7 or 8.  Please advise.  Thank you for your time.

This problem appears to malware, yet nothing I run can remove it or even detect it. After it starts anything wanting elavation does not run, including basically even single anti-malware software currently avaible. It only starts after doing something in Windows Explorer to present UAC prompt twice. Then afterwards everything wants an elvation presents the exact same error message. "A device attached to the computer in not working properly." Yet, everything in Device Manager looks okay and the fact I have access to Device Manager and Task Manager. It seems to block Rkill, Malwarebytes, RogueKiller, and TDSSKiller. It appears not happen in Safe Mode. I will get a DDS log ASAP.
Edit: Since I needed to do I reboot and I am new here I figured I should attach the first DDS log to the first post. I also wanted to finish my description. Since the "infection" my computer lags about 1000% more and boot times went from 57 seconds to 4 minutes. I was doing spring cleaning before it started.

You can try going into Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and remove all devices listed, then reboot. Let Windows rediscover the USB devices and reinstall them, and see if that improves the situation.

Any suggestions?

A:USB device not recognized - but there is no usb device connected

It could be two unrelated issues.
1. You could have a device that needs a driver.
2. Some motherboards use a mixture of 1.1 and 2.0 ports, so that's the reason for the message.

You could check to see if you can get a hardware id for the device, from the device manager.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

I got a new Dell Inspiron 7720 with Win7 Professional 64 bits SP1 pre installed.  I installed Windows XP Mode and Virtual PC on it.  I need the VM to be able to work with a USB to serial converter manufactured by Keyspan.  The Keyspan
PN is USA-19HS.  I already downloaded and installed the keyspan Win7 64 bit drivers on the host machine.  Once the driver was installed, it comes with an application that allows to test the Keyspan device.   I ran this application and the
test passes.  The problem I am having is that when I try to attach the keyspan device to a VM, I get the following error "Could not attach the USB device. you can attach the USB device to a different USB port or restart the VM and try again".
After 2 days of looking for a possible solution I decice to re-install win 7 64 bits SP1 and all the drivers, then I re-install winxp mode with virtual pc.  I still have the same problem.
I do not know if this helps but the USB controller installed on the host machine, seems to be ver 3.0
I will appreciate any help I can get on this.

I'm about to loose my mind..
So today I've pluged-in an Arduino device and everything gone great until for some unknown reason my computer just ignored the device and started to pop-up "USB device not recognized" the same device works perfectly fine in my other computer.. after trying, I think, everything, including deleting all usb devices in "dev_show_nonpresent_devices=1" mode.

Desperately, encourged with a long time's will upgrding my OS, I've formatted the primary partition and installed all clean windows 8 (don't worry, everything is legal).

Surprisingly enough, the same problem continues, but with a twist, in the device manager I have a persistent "Unknown USB device (port reset faild)", with no external usb connected.

All the other unknown devices' drivers I've found and updated.

I have "HP Compaq 6703b" laptop with Windows 8 64 bit.

Thanks for reading and sorry for my english,

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm running windows XP home edition, high-end gaming desktop and about a month or so ago I sudden have a window popping up when I'm running programs (and it minimizes them, resulting in program crashes sometimes). It reads: A device is connected on channel two.

I am running a blue-tooth mouse and a wireless keyboard, keep only games on this computer and don't even surf websites with it. (Beyond this one now).

It is horribly annoying, only for the fact that it has caused quite a few games to crash, resulting in system lockups.

I've checked the device manager, opened every single device before and after the 'error' message and checked to see if anything was flagged as not working and everything seemed fine.

I'm an intermediate computer user, I know my way around the OS pretty well but this is annoying. If y'all can't help me end it, if you could help me to just shut off the message (I don't care where a device is connected ;D) I'd be greatful.

Thanks again.

My router will only work if a LAN device (such as a PS3) is connected to the router and the internet. If the PS3 isn't connected to the internet, the modem light on the router will flash and nothing else will work. It's almost as if the PS3 is the administrator of the router. A:Router only works if a LAN device is connected.

Let's remove the PS3 from the mix and do some tests and configuration.
The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

I have a few questions I was looking for help on;
If you connected via an Ethernet cable to a compromised router (previously had malware attack carried out on it) would it be possible for the connected computer to be infected by the malware held in the router?
Further to this what other risks are there connecting to a compromised router via an ethernet cable?
An important point here would be that the connection to the router would not be in order to browse the internet, the connection would be to download the data logs held in the router.
Any help available would be greatly appreciated.

A:Threat from router to connected device

Routers can be compromised if they have a weak or default password which attackers can easily guess or break using a dictionary attack or brute force attack. Malware which can modify routers are rare and may require the router to be a specific make, model and firmware revision. I purchased a "RAYGO eXtreme Hard Drive enclosure (SATA to USB)" and installed within it a 1 Terabite HDD that was working (and can work) flawlessly in a different PC. The HDD is about 85% empty.

For no apparent reason, most of the time when I (try to) transfer large files to the external HDD, the latter stops working. However, I've been able to transfer (blocks of) files of more thann 30 Gb without a hitch.

When the external HDD does stops working, Device Manager shows "Unknown device". When it works, Device Manager shows two instances of "USB Mass Storage Device". If I restart the PC, most of the time the external HDD is ignored and not even the "Unknown device" entry appears.

The closest thing to a solution I found at "Problems may occur when you try to transfer files to or from a device that is connected to a USB 2.0 hub", where they state:

Resolution for Windows 7

To resolve this problem in Windows 7, add a EnHcSoftRetry registry entry with
a DWORD value of 1 under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\<hw id>\<instance id>\Device Parameters

Note To obtain <hw id> and <instance id>, open the Device Manager property
page for each EHCI USB host controller, click the Details tab, and then select
Device Instance Path in the list. Most systems have only one or two EHCI

A:Transfering files to or from a device connected to a USB 2.0 hub

Does the external USB connected hard drive work OK if connected directly to a USB port on the PC? If it does, that suggests the USB hub is the problem. Is the USB hub a "powered" hub (has its own power supply) or a non-powered hub that uses the PC's USB port power? Generally, a powered hub is best, especially if the external device gets its power solely from the USB.

Hi everyone, I'm not very computer technical, so be gentle with me!

I bought a new laptop two months ago, in France and it has developed a weird fault that I have not managed to solve. With nothing connected to the computer, I get the message "USB device not recognised". Any USB device that I have used is accepted by the computer and works perfectly. I have searched for updates, done all the usual windows updates, virus updates & checks and also used "Advance systems Care" to diagnose and optimise the system but this message keeps flashing on screen.

System details.
Packard Bell Easynote TR87
Processor Intel Pentium T4400
Windows 7 Home Premium edition
500 GB hard drive

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

A:USB device not recognised message while nothing is connected

Just to clarify, any usb device new or old is not working correct?? It sounds like an error I encountered a few weeks ago. Try to do a system restore to right before you can remember this starting to happen, and see if that fixes your problem

Also posted in TenForums:Today, I got a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Intending to replace my hard drive, I connected it with an optical drive adapter caddy and cloned my current HDD (500 GB, 202 GB used) with Easeus Todo Backup Free. I used Partition Master to create an NTFS partition from the remaining unallocated space (about 450 GB) on the SSD, then merged the two to create a partition with about 900 GB of total space. Assuming that the SSD would be bootable, I swapped the HDD and the SSD, with the SSD in the normal hard disk slot and the old hard drive in the caddy. I shut down the computer, checked the boot order to make sure that everything looked right, and booted up, only to find that it had booted with the old HDD. The SSD didn't show up in Explorer. I shut down and tried detaching and re-attaching the SSD. This time, it seemed to fit a little better; when I checked the boot order, there was a new device, a Samsung SSD, on the menu. I moved it to position 2, just below Windows Boot Manager (where the old HDD had always been), and booted. It booted with my old hard drive again. This time, the SSD did show up in Explorer. I tried shutting down again and removed the caddy with my old hard drive. When I tried to boot, I got "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed" error message. I finally gave up and put the old hard drive and optical drive back in, which I am using now with no problems. Do I need to do something to transfer the operating system onto the new ... Read more

Running MultiPoint Server 2011. I want to make it accept wireless connections, so, I could create a hotspot via 3G and get it back online should the main connection drop in a critical moment. As it happens, I have a TP-WN422G v2 laying around. It seems to take Win7 drivers just fine. Says it's up to date when I try to install Win8 drivers.

I've enabled Wireless LAN Service from Server Manager. The WLAN AutoConfig service is running.

Problem is, the device is enabled, but not connected.

Other devices can use TP-WN422G to connect just fine, so, it's not a router issue. Could be a driver issue, but then would it show TP-WN422G enabled and with full bars?

What steps should I take to resolve this issue?

Also, I'm not married to the TP-WN422G. If someone knows another solution that would serve my purpose, please let me know.

Try to do the Dism repair, to see if that fixes the issue. DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8
