I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I created the following performance counter using logman.exe.

logman.exe create counter US_Triton_Perf_Log -b 9/23/2015 09:30:00 -e 9/30/2099 18:30:00 -r -s $server -si $frequence -cf $folder\$server.txt -f $logtype  -o C:\local\logs\Perfout_$Server --a -v mmddhhmm  -rf  $max_duration

When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers 2008/2012, the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at 930PM and stops running everyday at 430PM. This works perfectly fine as intended. However, When I do this for a Windows
2003 server, my created counter is very different.
For example, in this case, I have set to the counters to start at 930AM and end at 1830PM, because I have set a maximum duration of 9 hours, the job terminates and begins on the next day, since I have the repeat option on. However, this does not apply to
our 2003 server; logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday. In addiiton, I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time. It actually does not start at all. I also notice that the jobs on all windows
2003 servers are created in a pending status, which then prevents me from removing the counter remotely.

I would like to know if windows 2003 is capable of working like my win 2008/2012 servers using logman, and if historically, the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task.

Both Jobs are using the same criteria, but a... Read more

Currently we are on an NT network with a few 2000 servers tossed in. Today I learned that the plan is to migrate everything to Linux. Lets assume that this only applies to the servers and that the users will still operate with 98/nt/2000/xp. What are your thoughts on this?

I put this in this forum for a reason. Because I'd rather get the advice from 2000 and 2003 experts who know what Linux cannot replace than to hear the Linux fanboys and anti-Microsoft activists praise it to the high heavens.

What would your concerns be if this was done on your network? What problems have you encountered if you'd tried this? Or what successes? Know of any businesses that have done this successfully?

I have a web site that is hosted on a shared web hosting provider's site that runs on a Linux platform. Once in a while I'd like to log in via ftp and back up all the files to my computer. The issue is that Linux file system allows case-sensitive file and directory names, when Windows does not. So when using Windows Explorer in Windows 7, I log in using ftp and do select-all and then paste to a folder on my desktop, I get one big confusing result.

Let me show. For instance, the directories on the Linux server have this structure:

-Folder: file
--File: index.php
-Folder: File
--File: index.php
-Folder: FILE
--File: index.php

Then on my Windows 7 I get this:

-Folder: file
--File: index.php
--File: index(1).php
--File: index(2).php
-Folder: file(1)
--File: (It's empty)
-Folder: file(2)
--File: (It's empty)

As you see this is not what it was before.

So my question is -- how can I back up these files from the server to my Windows machine so that I can possibly restore them later without any issues?

A:Ways to backup files from a Linux server on to Windows 7?

Can you zip them on the server then backup the zip?

There is no way you can simply download them to a windows based computer, so zip (or rar) is the only choice I see.

I want to connect my laptop to my windows computer only to access files.

I have a command line only install of linux so don't want to have to install X just to rdp.

I would like to ssh in. Is this the simplest way? I am only going to be in the other room of my apartment so do I still need to make a server for that?

I want to connect by wifi though rather than cat5.

So is making windows an ssh server the best way to go? In terms of security is making it a server any more of a risk than just being online normally?

Hi all
Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / W7 mix) and file / print sharing.

I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.

(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).

The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.

I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".

I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.

It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).

I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.

Incidentally as a HOME server there ... Read more

I have a Windows XP user who can open PDF files on our secondary file server (e.g. \\serverB\shares\marketing\file.pdf) but not from the main server (\\serverA\shares\marketing\file.pdf). Same with copying PDF files. He can
copy them to his desktop. from server B but not from server A. Server A is the one assigned to him because server B is being pre-seeded for DFS and is in a different office anyway.

The problem is only with PDF files. He can open and copy any other files. And it's only on his Windows XP machine. His Windows 7 machine works just fine (he can copy and open PDF files from server A).

The two servers (Windows 2016) are set up identically as far as NTFS permissions. The only difference is that server A is set up in DFS while server B is being pre-seeded before being added to DFS.

DFS namespace type is: domain (Windows Server 2008 mode).

The XP machine had no problem under server A when the DFS namespace type was Server 2000 mode, but I'm not sure that would cause the problem.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

Hi,

On a shared server we have a few oscommerce sites. One of them keeps on getting an infection which adds about 60 lines of script to the end of each php and html file... hundreds of them.

We have changed user names, admin name, passwords, cpanel passwords, ftp passwords etc, but every now and then it happens again with the same script.

We have cleaned all files and started again with everything working fine and no virus alerts from our very current Avast and Malwarebytes but it still happens.

As the script is quite old I am updating to a new current script which closes some of the vulnerabilities in the old script but I want to be sure I am not loading a new script onto a site which will infect again.

I plan on deleting the current files and folders so public_html is an empty shell except for cgi-bin and staring afresh. I have also deleted the root/temp files for awstats etc as they too were infecetd.

What else can I do to close whatever hole there is is here. I have other sites on this server that are accessed more times than this one and they are all clean, so it is not me and my boxes, plus I do a thorough clean quite often just in case. I have told the clients to clean there pc's and they say they have repeatedly, altho' I am not sure.

I have attached a text file in a zip file with the virus script which is inserted. Please be careful and do not open it unless you know what you are doing as I would hate it to go further.

I am attempting to place a backup of my documents and outlook files to my domain server. I do this every Friday.

Everything was fine in Windows XP, we would just copy the documents folder and overwrite the one on the server. This has become a problem in windows 7.

When attempting to copy, I get access denied, I have to constantly choose to overwrite files, or it just doesn't work at all.

Is there a better method to drop my files on the server? I want access to them without having to use a utility.

Welcome to the windows 7 forums Jtoney

One way that I do that is to use the xcopy with the /m command, which will copy and replace each of the changed and new files on your target directory.

xcopy "d:\documents\*.*" "O:\toshiv\mydocs" /s/m/y/c/h/r
xcopy "d:\xfer\*.*" "O:\toshiv\downloads" /s/m/y/c/h/r

this copies all of the files that either have changed or new from my d drive directories to my servers O: drive in those directories. I created a batch file and then created a shortcut to it and then set the shortcut to run as administrator.

It works for me.

This is a copy a friend burned him onto a disk and is currently NOT activated. He wanted to check it out before purchasing the license. I have installed it onto an old HP Pavilion a1640n and everything went fine with installation but, now that it is installed I cannot connect his Win8 computer to it. I have Googled this and found a method but, it doesn't work. I'm told to open a browser and enter in the address bar " HTTP://Server-name/connect " (Server-name replaced with then name of his server) and I should get a connector software download page. I do not get this software download page I just get a server not found page. I have tried entering other possibilities into the address bar, too (192.168.0.xxx/connect, adding .com etc.) nothing works. If I can get any help with this it would be appreciated.

Hi there
Will the W2012 Server get the 8.1 type of update --anybody know. There seems to be a deafening silence on W2012 server which IMO is strange as it is STREETS ahead of the really horrible W2008 server.

W2012 server has options though already to avoid the whole metro stuff but it would be nice to add some of the proposed customisation features to it.

I'm also not hearing anything about whether W8 ENTERPRISE will also be upgraded -- IMO this is MORE important even than the HOME versions if Ms wants businesses to adopt W8. Boot to the standard desktop is really a MUST for businesses - by also pinning standard programs to the quick launch task bar and / or the desktop a lot of problems of User training can be avoided.

Cheers

A:Windows 2012 server to get update or not - anybody

I am wondering this myself. Also, how will future support work for users who do not upgrade to 8.1? Nothing in 8.1 looks to have much of an effect on someone who uses a SMR and the desktop exclusively. Should I bother upgrading and risk having some type of issue with my work PC?
I recently rolled out a 6 PC trial with Windows 8 and Start8 (Start8 with GPO), and am really concerned 8.1 could break something with GPO or Start 8. Ugg, MS.

Well, you must have a bootable Windows 8 DVD or USB. Go to the BIOS settings, select to have the DVD or USB device as first device. Then it should say "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." if you have a DVD or it will show the OEM or Windows logo directly (USB). When you are prompted for the installation type, choose Custom. Make sure you have backed up your files. Delete every partition of Disk 0 and then choose the Unallocated Space to install.

I hope this helps you.

My office computer runs Windows XP Professional SP3 (see below), and I'm connected to our new server running Server 2012 Essentials. For the last month or so, at 4:00 every afternoon my computer loses its connection to the server. I have two programs that access the server, and both give me error messages and freeze, and I need to restart to get back to normal. I don't pay much attention to my clock, so I'm typically on the phone with a customer trying to accomplish something when my system has a meltdown.

The same error messages come up each time:

The Security System detected an attempted downgrade attack for server cifs/DELLSERVER. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
(0xc000005e)".

The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server cifs/DELLSERVER. No authentication protocol was available.
According to the error logs, this happens in the evenings and early mornings too, although not every day. When it does happen during non-work hours, it looks like it's consistently an hour apart (1:10AM, 2:10AM; 4:10AM, etc. or 5:35PM, 6:35PM, 7:35PM). The error will show up 3 or 4 times in a row, then everything will work fine for several hours.

I do not have any idea where to start to fix this. To my knowledge, I'm the only one with this issue, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem specific to my machine

I can guess the answer, no, but you never know. Is it possible to upgrade Windows 10 Pro 64-bit to Windows Server 2012 R2? What happens if you run the setup from Windows 10 Pro? You will be given the choice to upgrade, or be prompted to restart and do a clean installation? As far as I know, Windows Server 2012 R2 is the server counterpart of Windows 10. They even share most of the drivers. Assuming you have a computer running Windows 10 Pro and want to convert that to a small server, running say Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation Edition. Is that possible, or you have to format and clean install? Hopefully the drivers will be the same as in Windows 10.

Alternatively, is there any upgrade/addon to add server aspects in Windows 10 Pro (eg mail server, file server or HTTP server)? Is there an equivalent of Windows Home Server for Windows 10?

Thank you for your time.

A:Is it possible to upgrade Windows 10 to Server 2012 R2?

No. Windows Server 2012 R2 is the server version of Windows 8.1

The server version of Windows 10 has not yet been released, but it will be called Windows Server 2016.

And no, you cannot upgrade a desktop OS to a Server OS.

PowerISO - Create, Burn, Mount, Edit, Compress, Encrypt, Split, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive

If you d/l from there , it just runs as the free version.

Dear Team,
I have two server DC1 (main domain controlller) and DC2(Additional Domain controller). My main domain controller was having some issue so i seized all roles to DC2 so it can work as domain controller. Now i fixed DC1 and trying to make it Additional domain
controller but unable to connect it. Even i have mentioned ip address of DC2 in preferred DNS. Please find the error below while joining DC1 to domain.

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "ce-nai.com":

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.ce-nai.com

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured
to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:

10.254.0.10

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child ... Read more

Recently, Microsoft included the Windows Server 2012 R2 RTM on their Dreamspark basic site. Currently, I'm running the R1 version on a virtual machine using VMware Player. How can I upgrade the R1 to R2 while keeping all of my files and settings using VMware?

Do I just boot from the ISO (I haven't downloaded it yet) (CD/DVD settings inside R1 VM) and then it will detect and upgrade R1 or I have no choice but to create another VM and then manually replicate my files and settings from R1 VM? I really don't want to do the latter since it's very time consuming. I hope someone has thoughts on how to do this.

A:Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade over R1?

Wow, I just redirected VMware to the R2 iso and just followed the simple steps and I'm now currently upgrading on VMware. I didn't know it was possible to do that. I'll mark this thread as solved if there are no issues with the in place upgrade. Hopefully, everything works fine.

Update: everything went smoothly and now enjoying Server 2012 R2. Sadly, no colorful backgrounds in R2 unlike 8.1. All of my "3D" Metro App games like Pinball FX2, Jetpack Joyride, etc. work perfectly after the in place upgrade .

I've installed the NT schedule utility from the NT resource kit on a local database web server to automate daily file copying tasks. I can copy files from folder to folder on the local machine using "AT <time> copy d:\foldername\*.* d:\newfoldername\", but I cannot copy to the drive mapped to an Intranetware server. I've configured the Schedule service to start with a username and password that has sufficient rights on both machines, and if I manually copy files either in Explorer or from the command prompt to the Intranetware server everything works fine.

A:Can I get Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2012 ?

Hi,

As I known, Internet Explorer 11 is preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. No additional action is required.

If you plan to run IE 11 on Windows server 2012, it won?t be supported. Internet Explorer 11 is not available for download for on Windows Server 2012.

For more information, you may refer to:

Hope it helps.

I've got MBSA 2.3 (in fact, it's 2.3.2211.0) installed on a Windows 8.1 Laptop and I'm trying to scan a Windows 2012 R2 server against MS patch catalogue.
When I try I get this error:
"Computer has an older version of the client and security database demands a newer version. Current version is and minmum required version is ."
That is a copy and paste of the error. No version numbers are listed and minimum has a typo in it.
Installing MBSA onto the server fairs no better with a dialog box showing a script error.

Hi,
We are testing a web application in IE 11 in Windows Server 2012 R2 where the cookies are not accepting. The app is displaying a warning message "to maintain a login session, enable cookies".
But the cookies are enabled in the Settings. We tried
this solution, but no luck.
The application is working fine in the Chrome
browser in the same machine also it is working fine in Windows Server 2008.
Any inputs are appreciated? Thanks!
