I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello to all...

This is concerning the power jack on a Compaq 700us laptop.

My niece accidently broke the power jack on the motherboard. The cost to replace MB is $633.00+, (compaq will not sell the part separately)

They havent had the laptop very long...and they really cannot afford a new motherboard.
Compaq will not fix or replace...claiming it happened due to abuse...(funny thing, though...Ive seen a lot of posts on the internet about broken powerjacks on Compaq laptops...Hmm....)

Ive already bought the jack from a parter on ebay, but since I have only worked on desktops, I could really use a little advice if anyone has some to give.
Thanks in advance! ...Vicki

Hello! So I can't figure out what's the problem with my laptop after replacing DC power jack. I check wiring pinouts and everything - I think I have connected everything correctly, but when I connect my power cable, nothing happens except one of the components gets really hot (I don't know what is it, but there's lenovo logo on it. I think it's chipset or something) and I can't turn on my laptop. What should I look for? DIY only.

I'm thinking of creating a C drive image with Macrium Reflect and replacing the C drive contents on the replacement.  Back when, that might have led to problems with drivers and such, but Windows has gotten more flexible.  I've seen references to the newest installs being very free of bloatware, but I think tidied up the gen2 install  pretty well.  Am I overlooking an issue?  Thanks (And a thanks to Lenovo, particularly Andy, for the help in getting a replacement (screen banding problem).)

Hi Drteeter,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Did you verify the Audio driver version is correct from Lenovo support site?

If the current Audio driver version is not matching with our support site then it is incorrect version and needs to uninstall and then download the driver from support site.

Hope this helps.

I have searched forums far and wide and have taken the following steps:1. Uninstall and reinstall drivers. I downloaded 2 of them both had the same issue.2. went into realtek settings, and changed it to multi stream mode, no device was detected.3. I used 3 pairs of headphones.4. Someone online said it might be loose audio cable, i assure you it is not. The audio board also has a usb port on it and that port is working fine on my laptop.Any solutions that might work will be appreciated

Hi Dave0888,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with Audio port on ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Please set the default setting on Realtek High Definition audio application from control panel.
If you are unable to find the application or set the application, please download the driver from Lenovo Support page and install it.

Also please download ThinkVantage System Update utility and install it, and after installing it please run the application so that it will check for the latest drivers and automatically install it.

After installing all the application please restart the system and check it once.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

current 19v..3.1A

A:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

Hello!

My Toshiba Satellite P755-S5265 has not been able to turn on at all. That's because the AC adapter would not be charging the battery nor would it operate the computer.

Whenever I would plug in my adapter, a weird clicking noise would come out from the computer. Also, the AC adapter charging light would blink continuously as well. I

took apart my laptop and discovered that the end my of DC power jack was the source of the clicking. When I mean the end, I don't mean the area where I plug in my adapter, it's the other end that's connected to the motherboard.

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? Is my laptop dead and done for?

Thank you so much in advance!

I replaced the DC jack on an Acer today with a new one. When the laptop has the battery in the power LED shows a power source(unfortunately the battery is dead). When I remove the battery and plug in the charger to the new DC jack, no LED. Hitting the power button results in a flash from the power button light and power LED for an instant but no POST or boot. I tried different chargers as I have a few universals laying around so that's not it.....What's the problem?

A:Acer Aspire 5742 no power from dc jack, replaced it, still no power

Maybe not enough power on my acer laptop the charger says the output is 19 volts 3.4 amps and it runs fine without the battery installed, When I dont have the battery installed and the charger pluged in there is no indication that the changer is indeed plugged in and also when I turn it on I usually press the button just a bit longer to turn it on

Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

hi and welcome to TSG can you use your battery to power it untill you get what you need off.if you can get hold of another known good power supply for your make and model you can try it if that does not work then the problem is likely to be the jack point. i would not advise you to attempt the repair rather you took it for repair, laptops are a real devil to access and have many delicate parts which are easily broken even by the best

Hi. Im new on this forum, but I have a problem with my Inspiron 1545 laptop from Dell pre-loaded Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (although I did re-install several times with OEM OS restore disc). Money is tight for us now, so my AC power jack on the side of my laptop (or the end which connects to the jack) is damaged. I don't know what it is or how serious it is. Once for a while we had to protect the cord from slipping out using duct tape. The only thing I really know is that the coded white rim on that end of the cord, a very small part of it is chipped. And my battery needs replaced, do I need to still fork over an expensive sum for a brand new one?

Hi CSean and welcome to SF
As I understand it, it's not the Laptop-side of the connection that's broken right?
In that case you might find this link helpful:

Amazon.com: Replacement Plug for Dell Inspiron 1525 1526 1545 Laptop Ac Adapter: Computers & Accessories
Granted those aftermarket replacements are not necessarily in the same quality as the original parts.
You often trade off quality for price.
These seem to be original parts (for 3-6x the price as it seems):

Problem:Wireless radio will not power on. In the Access Manager (Fn + F5) clicking the "Power On" button has no effect. Troubleshooting:We have reinstalled Window 7 x64 Enterprise multiple times on our X1 carbons to try to resolve this issue. This issue affects both our batch of i5's and our batch of i7'sWhen another operating system is installed (e.g., Kali Linux on Live USB) the wireless radio works. We have tried using seven of the 20 or so versions of Intel's driver.  Getting the wireless radio to actually power on is hit or miss. So far, for all of the i7 Carbons, it's a miss. (I have called Lenovo Technical support. They're suggestion is to replace the wireless adapter, so they're sending someone out to do that. Unfortunately, I'm sure he isn't going to bring enough of them to take care of ALL of the laptops that are having this problem.) Device manager sees the wireless adapter, and I can uninstall/install drivers from there.

Through an accident, the power supply is dead. (Bright blue sparks from the PSU, now PC does not boot - so assuming it is the PSU dead).

So I am going to replace it. Problem is, I have never touched the PSU before. I have done things like upgrading RAM & graphics card, putting in a new CPU and cleaning everything, but not ever touched the PSU.

So my questions:

1 - is it relatively easily?
2 - Does it matter what type? I have a BTX motherboard, and so surely I would need a BTX Power supply if there is such a thing? Or will ATX stuff work? How could I tell what my current (dead) PSU type is?

Thanks.

I bought a refurbed HP Pavilion 750n in June 2008. Two weeks ago, the power supply fan started making revving noises which start about an hour after boot up (rmmmm...rmmmm...rmmmm). I took it back to the place where I had purchased it and left it for a few days. The proprietor said he couldn't hear any unusual noises, so I brought it home, but a hour after power-up, it starts that whirring noise, like someone revving a car engine. I though about replacing the power supply myself, but when I removed the side cover, I saw that the CPU fan has a huge plastic cover that almost fills the inside. I can't reach the power supply fan. Any suggestions on what I shoudl do? Thanks.

Our power went out the other day and fried the power supply in our Dell computer, so we're looking to replace it. I don't really know anything about replacing it... All I know is that it is a 250W Dell power supply. Our computer is kind of old, so I just want a cheap one that will do the job. Any suggestions?

A:Replacing Power Supply

First of all, buying/installing a cheap pw supply is asking for a problem.

Next old dell computers very often use a proprietary power supply. That is it looks the same as a standard pw supply however some of the wires are NOT the same.

Check with dell to see if your system uses a proprietary or standard pw supply. If it is standard, you can buy a decent one from newegg for around $40 or so for a 300W.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 , my X1 is having awful power management issues. It randomly powers off when the lid is closed and often times won't wake up from sleep. It does this power on , blinking green light power button , power off mode:  see video of issue here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0jd7fjxmJg The only way to get it out of this mode is plug in the power cord and press and hold the power button to force off then turn on. Even though the battery is at 90% + it won't power on without being plugged in.  I have type: 20BSCTO1WW , Bios N14ET32W , Windows 10 ProAll latest ThinkVantage and Lenovo Power Management updates installed  Any thoughts? Does it need to go back to Lenovo ?

A:X1 Carbon Won't Power on After Sleep

I am having the exact same issue. After pressing power button the light flashes 8 times and there is then a pop from the speakers, this repeats 3 times. model:20BS0032USBIOS:N14ET32W This started for me after I ran Lenovo Updates on 10/8/15. I am able to get the laptop to eventually start by holding the power down for about 6 seconds and then powering the device back on. The start screen is a much different Lenovo splash page. I also had to roll back the wireless drivers as I could not connect to certain networks which previously had no issues.

Today I plug the AC adapter and try to turn it on, but nothing happend.I leave the laptop charging until the power led indicator were green (indicates that the battery is full). Same problem, laptop won't start.I try to press 1sec to 30sec on the power on button to turn off/on but nothing happends.I try to press 1sec to 30sec on the hard reset switch (close to the battery), then try o power on  but nothing happends.I try to remove le battery connector, press for a while the power on button but nothing happends. When I plug the ac adapter, the led of the power on buton blink 3 times. Manufacter Part No: 20FCS04N00 Any other idea? (Sorry for my very bad english...) Best regards

My X1 Carbon doesn't seem to want to power on after I turned it off yesterday. When the AC adapter is plugged in, the power button lights up for a split second, and the light right next to the AC plug stays lit as long as it's plugged in. No other lights seem to turn on. I've tried using the battery reset button on the reverse side (held it for up to 30 secs), opening it up and disconnecting and reconnecting both the main battery and the CMOS battery, but no change. Any other ideas? Or is it likely to be a fried motherboard?
