Sound coming out speakers and headphones

Q: Sound coming out speakers and headphones

I didn't have sound in headphones, so I used HP Support Assistant to get the right audio driver. Now sound comes out both speakers and headphones. Reading around the web, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling driver. That didn't help. I do not have an additional Sound software conflicting with it. I do not have a headset under Recording, only microphone. Looking at Sound under Control Panel, it has:Speakers and Headphones IDT High Definition Audio CODEC - it says this even when I don't have headphones plugged inCommunications Headphones IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (Unplugged) -this option is grayed out.tia

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi everyone. I have my headphones plugged in and am getting poor sound quality out of them. My computer says that the sound is coming through my speakers, but its not (its just coming through the headphones.) I've attached a picture of what the comp's showing me for reference. I've tried going to the Sound menu and making the headphones the default device, with no luck. This issue seemed to happen after I was done using Google video chat with my headphones plugged in. I am trying to get the sound quality in my headphones back to normal. They work with every other device. Please help!

Hello, good morning, here's the deal, "sometimes" I have no sound on my computer, I've tried updating and rollback all my audio drivers, especially Realtek ones, dozens of times, and still nothing... (Understand that my computer recognizes sound coming out of the computer, but the speakers and puggled headphones dont work...)
When I say "sometimes", I mean I only get sound if I suspend (close laptop screen) for the whole night, and when I wake up and turn it on, I have sound... BUT, if I restart the computer, I will not have sound again...

I think the problem here is not from the drivers, since the drivers I've installed before and after the "suspend" during the night, are the same, and I think its not hardware problem, since the speakers and headphones work fine after that "suspend"...

I know its not a problem of sound in the computer, for that matter, because I can get sound out of a bluetooth speaker or so.

I've tried almost everything, but maybe something is missing, or it can be a bad connection "inside" the computer, but somehow, the speakers/headphones work after the "suspend"...

I hope you guys can understand what I'm saying, or indentify my problem...

Thank you in advance and I await your response :)

Good morning!

Hi, I'm having trouble getting sounds to come out of my speakers. I downloaded the SB live drivers and turned digital output on and yet I'm getting no sound coming out for my speakers. However when I turn digital output off I get sounds from my headphones just fine. I checked all the volume controls to make sure nothing is muted yet no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, Most speakers for computers do not take a digital input so that is causing a problem some where. Where are you plugging the headphones and speakers?

I've googled and googled and everything I've tried I either don't have the options or it didn't work. The issue is whenever I plug in my headset.. both my laptop's speakers and mic work.. as well as my headset's speakers and mic. I'm plugging the headset into the audio and mic jacks on the laptop.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5570-2052 (Came with Vista, I installed XP Home)

Under the Device Manager's Sound, video, and game controllers list I have:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Realtek High Definition Audio
Video Codecs

I also have Realtek HD Audio Manager installed.

What I want to happen is when I plug in my headphone's mic and speaker jacks the laptop's mic/speaker turns off. I've tried messing with all kinds of stuff with no luck at all.

Hi,

I have the following problem with Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit: When headphones are connected to the headphone jack, the laptop speakers will not disable.

The laptop recognizes headphones (test sounds are coming through) and they can be used for communications, e.g. Skype. The laptop has IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver's latest version.

On the other hand, sound from softwares and games are coming from the speaker.

According to me, the problem would be that it is not possible to switch headphones as default device in control panel -> sound.
See the Attached pic, even if i click "Default Device" for headphones it does nothing, there is no tickmark even after clicking
Pls Help!

Apparently, This problem was caused after my motherboard and heatsink were replaced by dell service guy due to overheating.

So Recently I got a new computer its an Acer. It only has one jack for headphones and microphones and usually when I plug one in it works fine and asks me to clarify which I'd like to use. I switch between headphones and microphone a lot so its a very useful tool for me. Though recently when I plug it in it no longer gives me the option to choose and no sound plays from the headphones and it instead plays from the speakers whether its plugged in or not. It also dims the sound a bit when they're plugged in so I think it decided I was mainly/only going to use microphone and set it to a mic one regardless of what's plugged in. I'm not very tech savvy but I tried my best to fix it. I tried other headsets, It is the same. I tried half plugging it in or fiddling with it, Its the same. I tried going into the sound playback list and seeing if it was disabled and it is not, It does not even show headphones as an option though it does show 'speaker's. I tried messing around in those settings and restoring them to default and nothing worked. I also tried going to the mic settings. For the mic settings there is two different options, 'microphone' which I assume is the one I usually plug in (since I can just plug my mic in and it works now) and stereo mix. I'v tried disabling the mic and enabling stereo mix and vise verse and tried restoring to default and tried making it forget about the mic and putting it back on and nothing is working and I really would like to use my headset since I l... Try a reinstall and see if it fixes the problem. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound device (Could be Realtek, Conexant, etc) and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of corruptions and may fix your problem.

In reference to the Stereo Mix, that should be set as the default Recording device. Then if you use the mic it will be heard, or if you want to record audio from the Internet you must have the Stereo Mix.

Okay, so here's the history...

The other night, I came home to a high pitch noise coming from my turtle beach headphones. Upon removing the headphones from my computer, I the sound started coming from my speakers. I then shut off my computer. I removed everything except the power cord. I could hear a different, yet similar whine. Upon opening my computer, I heard the noise coming from within. I then took out the video card, and started the beast back up. Same thing... After hours of browsing forums on my phone, I decided it was either my CPU or PSU. I then removed the PSU and jump started it to check whether or not it was making the noise. It ran fine and made no noise. However, upon connecting it to the motherboard and starting it, I then heard the noise again. When I listened closely to the CPU, I heard nothing, then I listened to the PSU which was outside of my case this time, and I could hear not only the high pitched whine, but also a slight... crackling noise...

It was then that I jumped on newegg and ordered a new PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139011 . After 1 long, unbearable night and into the morning, the PSU was here, and I spent 3 hours carefully setting it up, and organizing the cords in and around my computer.

NOW THE GOOD STUFF...

Upon turning on my computer, everything seemed fine. I quickly jumped on youtube and started a video.. no sound coming from my headphones...
I then pulled out my headphones from the jack... No sound com... Read more

Hello.

I've got a Thinkpad T430s (Windows 7) here and it's acting strangely. Namely, if I play a clip through the laptop's speakers, I hear no sound, but when I plug the headphones, everything works nice and neat.
One thing I noticed, is that computer actually recognises the sound, because the volume mixer/application, at the lower right/tray, and it's volume bar shows me the green indicators jumping up and down, as the music plays.

Of course I've tried reinstalling the drivers, I've uninstalled the audio device in Device Manager and restarted the computer. And yes, the obvious things are also checked - nothing (the applications) is muted in the volume mixer, default device is correct under playback devices.

Some have reported on the web, that it might help to use toothpick for example and "un-jam the sensor", but that didn't help either.

I've also tried booting up the newest Linux Mint (has pretty good multimedia support) from the USB and I heard no sound through speakers.

So I'm out of ideas here. It looks more and more like a hardware fault, but how can I be absolutely sure?
Thanks for helping out,
starsplash

Hello. Please post your problem again, because half of your text has been chopped off. You might have to type it instead of paste.
Try switching to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on the Creative Labs Recon driver.3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Recon driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]If you only have the symptoms with one of the drivers, then the other is at fault. If you have the same symptoms with both audio drivers, then it is very probably not a driver issue, maybe hardware.

Earlier this week I received and downloaded the latest update to Windows 10. It went smoothly as expected and everything seemed fine until yesterday I began to experience a buzzing scratch noise from my laptop speakers. It was intermittent at first and then it escalated. Certain music and audio like dialogue and certain songs experiences this scratching noise along side the regular audio a lot. To test wither the cause is physical (speakers themselves) or software related (due to update) I have done the following. I have tried what was said in this question; http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/HP-15-audio-crackles-unless-headphones-plugged-in/td-p/5.... I have created a system restore point on the notebook and backup complete data and uninstalled the audio drivers from device manager and reinstalled it. It has not worked and I am now assuming it is a physical problem with the speakers themselves. If that is the case, what should I do? A check seems to show that my warranty is still applicable; should I go with it?

However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

A:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

A:i have no sound coming from my headphones

Do you currently have sound on your computer? What is the make and model# of your computer? Where are you plugging your headphones in? Plug them into the Back Green Audio port out of the back of the computer. Unless you have audio ports in the front.
Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any yellow flags next to any devices? If so these devices need to have drivers installed. go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in your service tag# or your make and model # and download the audio driver and any other drivers for your computer.
If you do have sound through your speakers, but you do not have the speaker Icon in your system tray in the lower right hand; Take note of the Sound device in the Device Manager (RealTek or whatever) Go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Put a check box in Put Volume Icon in System Tray. Go to the Audio tab make sure the default play back device is the same sound card in the Device Manager. Go to the Volume tab, make sure the volume is all the way up. Go to the Advanced button make sure nothing is muted. Go Speaker SettingsAdvanced choose Headphones.

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. If Support Assist isn't installed on system then I suggest you click on the link below and stroll down to 'Download Now'.

My R5 Aurora not getting sound from both sides of the headphones.  Seems to have happened after a windows 10 update. re-installed Realtek drivers. Did not fix. Headphones with a USB connection will work fine. Headphones with "stereo" jack do not work on one side. Tried different headphones with a stereo jack and neither work. Both of those headphones work on a different computer. Sounds like it would be the jack on the computer, but it does the same thing if you use front or back jack. Has anyone come across this problem? It appears that Windows is canceling the other channel. The sound settings show the balance to be the same on both sides. There is no way in windows or Alienware Audio to increase the sound on just one side. Thanks.

A:Why would on-board speakers sound scratchy but headphones sound OK?

You Dell Studio 1555 laptop uses IDT HD audio driver for the built in laptop speakers.
The ATI HD audio driver is only used if an HDMI connection to an HDMI monitor (with an HDMI audio/video cable) is used.

possibly a driver conflict with IDT audio, built-in speakers may be malfunctioning or dirty (gotta have them repaired if it's a hardware problem and not a software problem). just listing the possible causes for the scratchy sound.

A:No sound from Laptop speakers, but can hear sound out headphones

The following may work but it applies to Windows Vista (I don't have XP any more), so it may be a little different for yours:

Control Panel > Sound > Speakers > Properties > Advanced > Restore Defaults

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell Latitude E7440 laptop running Windows 8.1. I have been having issues with no sound coming in through headphones plugged in through the headphone jack (sound will only come through the built-in laptop speakers). I have tried several fixes including:
-Setting headphones as default playback device (my laptop groups speakers and headphones together, so it is not possible to choose one over the other).
- Removing battery, holding down power key for 30 seconds, restarting
-Updating Realtek Audio driver
-Uninstalling Realtek Audio driver (and deleting files), then restarting computer so the native audio driver is used.
I have had the most success with using the native audio driver (after deleting and uninstalling Realtek). However, when I do this, I have sound coming from both the headphones and the laptop speakers. This will work for a day or two, then I will begin having no sound coming from the headphones again (despite running the native audio driver).
I don't know if this is a hardware or a software issue. I don't think it is a hardware issue since I am able to get headphones to work some times. Does anyone have any new ideas or guidance? I am debating getting a USB adapter for my headphones, but I am not sure that would solve the problem if it is a software issue.
Thanks for the help in advance!

A:Latitude E7440 - Sound not coming through headphones

elizabeth1579 I am debating getting a USB adapter for my headphones, but I am not sure that would solve the problem if it is a software issue.
The usb jacks are very inexpensive and to me would be worth the risk that it might not work. You could test for hardware failure (or fix the software if it is a software issue) by resetting the laptop back to the original factory configuration, but for many people it would be worth a few dollars to try to avoid doing that.
Usually when headphones are not detected by the Realtek driver but are when using the native driver, the solution is to completely remove the Realtek software the way you did it and then install an earlier version of the Realtek driver. However it is hard to figure out your laptop's symptoms. Normally if there is the same symptom with both the vendor's driver and the native driver, that is strongly suggestive of hardware failure because both drivers are not likely to have the same bug at the same time. In your case though I wouldn't bet on it either way.

First let me say that I saw the guide stickied at the top for how to properly post a request for help. But I don't know how to classify this.

The problem is I have no sound on my computer from either the speakers (part of the monitor) or the headphones. And my microphone doesn't seem to be working, but I think these two are related. I want to hear sound.

So I'm not sure what to say. I have Windows 7. I have an HP Pavilion Slimline s7320n desktop PC. My monitor is an SVA, model number 7005L. Maybe SVA isn't the brand, but it has those letters on the front.

I have tried plugging the cord that normally handles the sound into all of the jacks in the back of the tower. But I keep getting told that "No audio output device is installed." Maybe I did this simple process incorrectly. I am willing to retry it with help. I can't adjust the volume from my keyboard. Not that it matters because no sound is coming from the computer.

I'm not sure if this problem is hardware or software related. I called tech support for Windows and HP. They both wanted to charge me for them to take the equipment and repair it. But I don't think it's an equipment problem because everything runs just fine. I just can't hear anything.

I recently had a new hard drive installed. As a result, I ended up being upgraded from XP to Windows 7. The sound worked with XP.

A:No sound from speakers or headphones

They would try to make you pay for that...

Let's take a look in the Device Manager. Open it up using the instructions here if you need help: http://cid-120d9bfa03f629fd.spaces.l...29FD!151.entry

Do you see any yellow !'s or red X's?

On my brand new Asus laptop, I have not been able to figure out how to get sound out of my headphones when I plug them in. On my old laptop, if I plugged in the headset, sound went there automatically. Not on the new computer. The headset I have has a USB plug. I was able to get sound out of them once- by disabling the speakers, Realtek Digital Output and Realtek HMDI Output--- if I just disable the speakers, the default goes to the Digital Output and I get no sound at all, so I had to disable everything. AND, in order to get all that back, I had to do a system restore to an earlier date because I have no idea how to get them back otherwise. Please help.

A:Sound out of Speakers, not headphones

You need to select the "Speakers" as the default device if you have it set to "Digital Output" you wont get any sound at all, Go into Control Panel\Sound and rightclick on "Speakers" and select default device.

The sound on my computer is coming out of both the headphones and the onboard speakers. This is a new computer, right out of the box, so I don't know what exactly could be making it do this. All the drivers are up to date to my knowledge, but the computer doesn't seem to be recognizing the headphones when I put them into the jack.

Also, on a related note, if I turn up the volume high, I get high-pitched feedback.

I'm using an Asus U41S. Sound card is Realtek HD.

I have sound through my headphones but not through my computer speakers. The speakers work fine as I tried them on another computer.... Checked the sound properties...nothing is muted and all sound is where it should be. Device manager says everything is working properly. They were working properly until a couple days ago.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

A:No Sound through speakers but through headphones

it's HEAR, not "here" (location) for audio.

If your headphones work, the problem is NOT with your computer.
Do you have digital speakers?
