javascript code doesn't work with IE7 (work with FF1.5)

Q: javascript code doesn't work with IE7 (work with FF1.5)

I cannot find out why the following code doesn't work with IE7. Pressing the button doesn't add the text (table) to the page.
The code also loaded to http://startupisrael.com/gpazi/triptouch/test.php.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<script language="Javascript" type="text/javascript">
function func()
var mydiv = document.getElementById("mydiv");

var mytable = document.createElement("table");
var mytr = document.createElement("tr");
var mytd = document.createElement("td");
var mytext = document.createTextNode("this is my text");

<div id="mydiv"><button onclick="func();">click</button></div>

Preferred Solution: javascript code doesn't work with IE7 (work with FF1.5)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to use my CD-ROM drive and it doesn't work here are the list of things I have tried

Uninstalled and reinstalled the cd-rom driver it is a Matbleepa UJ-840D CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW in my HP laptop (Didn't work)

Read stuff about code 39 and removed in the registry edit screen Upperfilters, Upperfilters.bak, Lowerfilters, Lowerfilters.bak and rebooted (Didn't work)

Removed itunes from computer (didn't solve the issue with cd-rom player)

Went back to a system restore point that was before the last time I used the CD-rom player and it worked and that (didn't work as well)

Read a lot of different posts about code 39 and nothing is given after the above steps are taken if it still won't work except to reformat which I would prefer not to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks. This is a weird problem.

Sometimes applications which run Java work fine but other times they don't work at all. For example when there's a link which runs a line of javascript (such as opening a popup) it doesn't work at all, it's totally non responsive. It doesn't even try to load, if you click the link it does nothing.

This isn't just on one browser though. It happens on the latest versions of Chrome, IE and Firefox so it's an entire computer issue. For example websites like beautifulpeople.net and the truth box in myspace don't work on any browser.

So far I've tried:
Disabling anti-virus (avg and XP firewall)
Disabling all pop-up blockers
Reducing security settings right down on all browsers
Downloading latest javascript
Cleaning all temp files, cookies and history

Nothing works. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys.

Do you mean you downloaded the latest version of JAVA runtime (6.7)

In Internet Options, Advanced tab, do you have Sun JAVA enabled?

Of course, it still could mean that the javascript at the problem sites are faulty. Especially since all your browsers have the same problem.

Hey guys I need help. All javascript in my IE doesn't work. It works in all my other browsers though. Also, whenever I type something on the address bar of IE and press enter, it opens in a new Firefox tab.

I also checked the the [internet options > security] for both local intranet and internet. Everything under scripting is enabled.

I really need help with this.

Thank you!

Wait... so if you opened up Internet Explorer, went to the address bar, and typed in http://www.google.com then Google would open in Firefox*? What versions of IE, Firefox, and Windows are you running?*some might consider that a welcome feature

Can anyone assist? I'm not a programmer so please forgive me in advance.

I’ve tested the code below but it’s not redirecting (no errors on the page) As an FYI, I tested only using two incoming links, I added the third elseif here for better clarification.

Need to capture campaign ID from print ads and/or direct links. An easy fix would be a tracking pixel on the page but our current analytics program does not provide it (can’t purchase another program, our company is too invested in the current).

To just add another elseif expression for new print ads and/or redirects, i.e. until our analytics company develops a solution (simple as opposed to creating a sub domain w/ a redirect for each new incoming link)
Important Notes:

The code should be case sensitive because the incoming link may sometimes come from same domain but with a different campaign ID (see example below)

I did manage to capture the campaign ID using to two domain autoforwards but that will only work for one incoming link.

I am running Win XP Home SP 2.

I recently decided I needed to educate myself on creating web pages/sites.

I purchased a copy of FrontPage, and a copy of a book by Elizabeth Castro entitled "HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS," published in 2003.

I tried to create a very simple web page using the book, and using (at first) Word Pad, then Notepad. When I try to open it using IE, nothing is displayed.
However, when I enter the same info into FrontPage, IE has no problem displaying the page.

I very carefully compared the two (Notepad (or Word Pad) vs. FrontPage) to correct any syntax errors. Still no luck.

Now the curious part. I decided I was doing something fundamentally wrong and logged on to the author's website. When I attempted to view the examples for the the appropriate chapter (chapter 3), I discovered that I could not view the first three (or four) (using IE), but I could view subsequent examples. The website is www.cookwood.com.

So . . . is this a problem with the browser, or a problem with the code (I will post the code for any interested party). It seems to me that it is more likely to be a browser problem - and perhaps this message should be posted on a different forum.

Can anyone help?

I've seen this thread somewhere before, but I don't think I see a resolution that will help me. My Flex 5 fingerprint hasn't worked for sometime. I've deleted, updated reloaded, disabled the driver and uppated.  I've reinstalled the chip set and went into the bio to make sure the right settings are enabled. I even explored the possibility there might be a register edit (mind you I'm not a programer by any means).  Bottom line is the driver indicates that there is a failure to load (code 10) and has never worked even for a short time since trying to fix it given I noticed some of the discussions indicate a very short term functionality. Anyone have some ideas given this doesn't seem to be a isolated problem?  I am not open to a clean system or total windows install of any kind given I would rather just be disaapointed than invest all of the time that would take.  Thanks!!!
Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

I have a heavily macro driven workbook written in Excel 2003. The workbook has several worksheet command buttons (not forms) to call other macros. Depending upon various conditions, the caption, font size and font color of the buttons are changed by macros. When run on Excel 2007, the caption length is limited and I can't change the font color. I do not have 2007 myself, so I made a small workbook out of a segment of my main program and tried to run it on a friends machine at his work with 2007. The attached program works fine on 2003, but wil not run on his 2007.
Can someone please take a look at this and see if there is a workaround?

I believe this LAC problem started around the same time I was trying to get shared music between my computers on iTunes. I was trying to allow for connection on port 3689, but everything I did was unsuccessful. Any suggestions for any of these problems I'm having?

I cannot get Windows Media Encoder 9 to work at all at home, but I have no problems with it at work, so I know I'm not trying to do something with it that it can't handle.

At home, every time I try to convert either an AVI or a VOB to WMV, either using the wizard or the custom settings, it lets me get through it all and then, when it starts trying to encode, it throws up the message:
"Windows Media Encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ..."

It never gives me any more information than this, just crashes and closes. I've tried repairing it through the control panel, as well as completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it hasn't helped.

At home I'm running Windows XP Media Center. At work, where I've never had it crash, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Is there something in Media Center that causes it to crash? Is there any patch I can download or thing I can do to get it to work on my home computer?

Thanks for your help.

A:Windows Media Encoder doesn't work at home, does at work

I'm currently having the same problem . I open the .vob file set the output folder , settings etc etc . just as it was about to start converting , WME just stops and crashes . I use windows xp home edition so if your company's xp professional can make it work im thinking it is something in the professional edition which allows it to work not something in our edition that doesnt allow it to work. Are there any alternatives for encoding a video? i dont have much cash right now so i was hoping i might find some freeware alternatives . thanks

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.

I'm running Windows Vista.

The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software

Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.

Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.

I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.

At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.

Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more

So whenever a program uses InstallShield to install or uninstall a program, it boots up, and the bar fills up preparing to run the Wizard, and right when it fills, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while launching the setup. The specified module could not be found," and then it quits.

This occurs anytime I try to install or uninstall anything that uses InstallShield. I've tried everything at the InstallShield troubleshooting site, including deleting a file in the registry (the problem key was there but deleting it didn't solve the problem), making sure I had admin privilidges, and emptying out the Temp folder. I can't reinstall InstallShield because it (ironically) requires InstallShield to install.

The one problem that I can think of would be that I just got back from college. At college, I logged onto a network to use the computer. Could this have something to do with it? I've tried logging onto the computer itself as the Admin, but the problem still occurs. This whole thing really sucks because the comp is pretty much useless not being able to install or uninstall anything.

Thanks for any help.

A:InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

Depending on what version of InstallShield you have here is a site that shows some of it's program errors >

Have you tried this site > http://consumer.installshield.com/

InstallShield uses the Windows Installer Service. It could be that Windows Installer Service has somehow become corrupted.
Check this site out > http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201

As a last resort you might consider reinstalling your Windows Operating System on top of itself to repair and replace the corrupted or missing files associated with InstallShield and Windows Installer Service.

Just for your information, InstallShield is the oldest installer program company. However there is another that is completely free “Inno Setup” which you may have seen when installing some programs. Here’s their site > http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

I've got a weird problem here to report. I'm on a Lenovo N200 laptop running Windows 7 x64. Around half the time, the computer will boot up with the trackpad not responding. During times when this happens, I can look into the device manager and see a "code 10" ("device cannot start") for the trackpad. Restarting the computer fixes the problem.

I've had the problem once or twice over the last few years, but just a few weeks ago, it started happening very regularly (+/- 50% of all startup attempts). I can't recall making any notable changes to the system lately that could cause something like this. When the problem first started, it also affected the display adapter (Windows would start with an extremely low resolution and the graphic card would show a similar fault in the device manager, in addition to the trackpad problem described here), but this has since stopped.

I have tried updating the driver for the trackpad to a newer version, but the problem persists.

Hardware faults were considered, but I was able to successfully boot the computer from a WinPE CD five times in a row with no issues, so it would seem like this is less likely to be a hardware bug.

Any ideas as to where to go from here? I don't want to have to reinstall an otherwise clean and functional operating system for something this trivial.

Ok I have a problem, and its really bugging me. One day a friend came over and we tried to install a Geforce 2 GTS into my computer (PII 450 Mhz,96 MB Ram, etc. etc.) Anyway, we installed the card into the AGP slot, but for some reason the monitor wouldnt work when we turned on the computer (kept saying Video Cable Connected?)(I figured out why it was doing that though) Anyway since it wasn't working, we took the card back out, put the computer back together, all good. My friend leaves, and I turn on the computer. At first everything seems ok, but then I notice my sound doesnt work, nor does my graphics card work (my original one) I fixed the graphic problem by just installing the new drivers, but the sound I cant. I thought maybe it had to do with drivers since we deleted my old graphics drivers when we installed the new graphics card, so I downloaded the newest sound card drivers, and its still not working. I went back and opened up my computer. Theres this one wire that we could not remember wether it was connected or not. Ive tried having my computer on with the wire connected and not connected, and it doesnt seem to make any difference. So I would really like to figure out whats the matter with my comp, and hope to god its fixable, cause I really dont want to get a new comp.

Thanks before hand.

Hi. I've been screaming at my computer for the last month and a half or so, because it has this tendency to stop working with JavaScript links. When it first started, I tried going to Microsoft's website for help (that was bright ) but half of the links I needed to get to the support area were javascript. I tried installing a whole binch of crap from Sun Java's site. I scanned my system for adware, spyware, and viruses. Nothing worked. Finally, i decided to do sytem restore, but for some reason it was corrupted and the screen wouldn't show up for it. So I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows. Three times. That sucked bad. Almost drove me to linux, except that I like playing games. After the fourth install, things seemed to be normal, but two days ago, it started up again. Since I didn't want to play the reinstall game again, I decided to look for help. If anybody can help me, I'd appreciate it. I use SlimBrowser for my browser, but it isn't working in IE either. Oh yeah, I have Norton now, but I turned off the Java / Applet security stuff, and it still doesn't work. I also downloaded Windows Script 5.6 (read it in another thread) but that didn't help either. I'd really appreciate any help anybody can give. Thanks.

Also, I used to have google toolbar before sp2, now I no longer have google toolbar, and when I re-download it, the install windows comes up but it's blank. So I can't get google toolbar to work either now.

Thank you for your time.

A:javascript does not work in general

I'm having the same problem. I believe it is a problem with SP2, however, I remember seeing something referring to your computer manufacturers web site. Doesn't make sense to me. I think the SP2 firewall is messing javascript up.

If anyone has a solution to this, please, let us know.

I'm having this problem with my browser, where javascript links do not respond when clicked. I've already 'manually' installed java twice from www.java.com, and nothing has changed. This problem gave me few disadvantages, such as when browsing, and also I'm unable to delete my hotmail mails because the 'Delete' link won't respond.

Other problems occured at the same time this javascript probem occured. Such as my "find" (ctrl + F) bar. I took few screen shots to better describe my problems:

As you can see from above, i entered "problems" as the value i am trying to search, but the "FIND NEXT" button is not active, so I cannot click it.

Also my computer's "Search" doesn't work anymore. Look at the image below.

As you can see, the search column on the left only contains the dog, and the rest is blank.

Additionally, I cannot change my TEXT SIZE on my browser. (Example: I selected "Largest" or "Smallest" and it appears as a medium size font)
All these problems occured together after I tried to use "System Restore" to rewind my settings to one day before. After system restore i was prompt to restart. So i did. At start up, the taskbar and icons were not loading after 10 minutes (only the wallpaper was visible" So i reset my pc. After that... the mentioned errors were discovered. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

EDITED: also my windows media play isn't opening. A messeg... Read more

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your XP disc if prompted

Last month, I got a pretty nasty virus on my computer. I've spent the last few weeks working with someone in the virus portion of the forums and they managed to clean up my computer. However, java and/or javascript, along with flash player still won't work. So, i'm unable to do several things (go to Twitter, look at google maps, watch videos online, etc).Here's a link to the that topic...I've tried several fixes, but none of them have worked. And since it seems like a program issue now and not a virus issue, I've been directed here.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/267809/rootkit-infection-cannot-boot-computer/Just for your information, I'm running Windows XP and I do not have the Windows disk that came with the computer.Thanks for your help!

Using IE6 6.0.2800.1106xpsp2.030422-1633

Got a problem with secure sites using javascript.

Any buttons which invoke javascript don't work. If I click them I - get "error on page" message in bottom bar of iexplorer - so am effectively stuck on the first page I get to.

First noticed this on ebay login where I get directed to a page saying "If you are seeing this page, your browser settings prevent you from automatically redirecting to a new URL. " The 'click here' link then doesn't work. That problem has gone away now that ebay give the option of secure and non-secure login!

Have tried turning off anti-virus/firewall etc.
Have checked for spyware.
Have uninstalled spyware and popup blockers.
Have been to sites which check my computer settings and said I could use SSL 128 encription and java scripting.
Have reset all ie setting to default.

Two users are set up on this computer - the other user has NONE of these problems - even though we are using the same software and the same computer!!!

Have made sure iexplorer settings are the same for both users.

HOWEVER in the non-working user's Internet Options/Security/Trusted sites window - the 'sites' and the 'custom level' buttons are both greyed out - so I can't modify settings and I can't add sites to the trusted zone!!!!!

I suspect either some software or malware is monitoring and preventing me accessing ... Read more

It's been quite awhile since I've been to this site, but apparently not so long that my browser didn't remember me.

My Firefox has been giving me all sorts of problems for months now, and I finally want to try to get it figured out and resolved. The biggest issue is with links which involve Javascript, and I believe ones which would open a new window/tab via popup. Clicking on them simply don't do anything at all. I did go to site mentioned in another thread about testing the javascript in the browser and it stated it was working. So I'm thinking it's maybe a popup issue? But I can't figure out what's causing it.

I only have these issues in FF. They do not occur if I use IE, which I try to refrain from using but right now have to anytime I need to use such links.

The other problem I have, which I'm guessing is unrelated is that after some time FF will often not let me open any links in a Nw Window. It'll only let me open new tabs, not a new browser (even manually). Also when I shut down FF, the process itself often remains running and I have to kill it in the task manager in order to restart it. So any assistance with that is also appreciated.

My javascript links in IE had not been working. I uninstalled norton internet security 04 and they worked. Then I reinstalled it and the links did not work again. If i disable the firewall and virus protection the links work again. I obviously need to have the firewall and virus protection enabled though. What can I do to fix this ? I have searched this site and the internet for solutions and have tried everything but nothing works. Help I am going crazy !!! Thanks

A:norton causing javascript links not to work

I don't use Norton, but I bet there is a feature in the firewall settings that blocks JavaScript and can be turned off leaving your firewall and antivirus still running. Someone who uses Norton could better help you. Look in the area that controls cookies, ads, and other 'privacy' features.

So last night, I defragged my computer for faster preformance and to get rid of the Auto-Restart crap.Then, this morning I come to play with my friends online and listen to some Music. So I search &quot; Inspector Gadget Dubstep &quot; and I noticed no suggestions came up on Youtube, so I opened the video than it said I needed Adobe Flash Player. I have both, I just updated Java, and now I'm getting bored. Can someone give me a hand with this? Thanks, Mythic.

A:JavaScript and Adobe Flash Player wont work.

Also, please don't tell me to search for something on Google.It only gives me a Blank Page.I also can't colour my text or use Smilies.I'm not sure about the Auto-Restart, but if it happens, I'll post.

I have an ASUS notebook running windows 7 64-bit. I am using the QuietOffice power profile, however the screensaver won't kick in no matter what I do, and the display does not turn off even though I set it to be after 5-minutes of inactivity. I don't know if there is something running in the background... I have turned off my usb wireless mouse, and nothing....

Any ideas?

A:HELP: power option doesn't work - screen saver doesn't start!

This is another case of factory bloatware interfering - in this case a useless factory utility overriding Win7's superior built-in version.

Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.

Here are other tips for cleaning up factory bloatware
