ctrl+Shift+S Photoshop shortcut not working after clean install of Windows 7

Q: ctrl+Shift+S Photoshop shortcut not working after clean install of Windows 7

Hi, I have a Lenovo W530 on which I reinstalled Windows 7 and lenovo softwares and drivers from scratch. Everything works well but for a very annoying detail: The ctrl+shift+s photoshop keyboard shortcut is not longer responding. It was working just before I did the re-install of Windows with the same photoshop installation package I have tried the following without success:- Installing Windows 10 and all the drivers/software and Photoshop (Decided I didn't like it as my PC was running 10 degrees celcius hotter)- re-installing the keyboard driver from the lenovo website on my fresh Windows 7 install- Switching fn/ctrl keys in the bios back and forth- Running Windows troubleshooter- There are no failing processes/services/exe in the reliability monitor nor in event viewer What works:- other keyboard shortcuts work well in photoshop- assigning another keyboard shortcut to save as in photoshop allows works Well it is minor, but bugging me!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I cannot get my ctrl + shift shortcut combination to work. For instance, when I am in Excel and want to use that combination with the arrows to highlight certain rows and cells, it does not work. Another example would be in iTunes when I am trying to switch between Miniplayer and regular size (which i actually do frequently. The only solution i have found that works is turning Sticky Keys on, which i particularly do not enjoy. Any solutions out there for this? Not a major problem, but annoying none the less. Thanks

the shift and control key stopped working after reboot. we think it's a virus/worm/trojan/something. caps lock works. alt works. delete works. task manager works with right click on task bar. but control-alt-delete does not work. the keyboard beeps when i press shift or ctrl. when i'm in msword, and click shift-i, i get italics, almost as though shift is ctrl, but shift-alt-del won't pull up task manager. in notepad, shift-l gives me an upside down capital l. i can't get special characters - ampersand, underscore, question mark, etc. very annoying. i'm copying them from internet to a text file and pasting them where needed, such as email address to register here.

we tried a new keyboard, but no help.

i ran hjt, and cws shredder. the logs are below. i downloaded a new version of the keyboard driver, just in case, but no improvement. i checked the keyboard mapping file, and the date on it is very old, so it appears to be ok. i'm starting to suspect something running and capturing keystrokes and changing them. i don't know a whole lot about what i'm doing, so it might be a crazy idea. i'm a mainframe programmer with some client/server development experience. i don't know a whole lot about security, but i'm trying to learn more.

Hi,I've just started on Reverse Integrating Vista SP1 and SP2 following these Instructions and the photo gallery version instructions HERE only to find that the "CTRL+SHIFT+F3" will not restart my PC into the audit mode with the System Preparation Tool, it just sits there and does nothing.Does anyone know why this might be and how to fix it? I'd really like to get this done so that I can have a bootable Vista SP1&2 instillation disk.Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.John

A:CTRL+SHIFT+F3 in Reverse Integration not working.

I found a "F-Lock" key that was the culprit. Once I clicked on it the F-keys were unlocked and I was able to continue with the Reverse Integration.

However, if anyone reads this I was wondering how far you can go with adding drivers to the Pre-Reverse Integrated OS. I would like to add the Ethernet drives allowing me to access the Internet with the Pre-Reverse Integration OS so to include all the updates sense SP2.

Plus I'd like to change the partition letters to match what I'm using now and then associate them with the Start Menu links.

Anyone know if this is OK or would it be to much for this procedure?

Hi all, I am writing this post as I am unfortunately having issues with my ProBook keyboard. All of a sudden I powered it on the other day, and soon noticed there is an issue with my shift and ctrl keys (left and right).Pressing them seems to provide no response and although only really a minor issue, it can be really annoying as the keys are used for many shortcuts and functions. I have tried a few things to fix the issue but after failing I am now posting here! What I have tried so far.. Restarted the device mulitple timesBooted in safe mode (shift does not work in safe mode either)Uninstalled all keyboard drivers from device manager (after rebooting they all keep reappearing anyway)Checked the HP drivers site and cannot see a specific driver for the onboard keyboardInstalled generic third part software to identify and update all laptop drivers. This completed but no mention of the keyboard. At this point I am a bit stuck. Firstly it would be great to locate the appropriate driver for the keyboard, or something generic. All other buttons work with no issue including the function keys. I do hope it is not a hardware issue! Thanks in advance - H

i have a keyboard error that is really putting a hamper on my work right now. this started yesterday, but i can't recall when exactly it started happening.

i have a steel series apex keyboard and windows 8 64-bit

when i press either of these four keys, it shows me on my keyboard settings software and on the on-screen keyboard from windows 8 - that all four are being pressed simultaneously
= left-shift, left-ctrl, right-shift, right-ctrl.
it doesn't matter which of the four i press - all four are treated like they're being pressed down.
also if i press alt, it thinks both alts are being pressed.

i have tried;
unplugging, plugging back in
restarting my computer
putting keyboard settings to default
uninstalling and reinstalling all keyboard drivers/software
scanning/fixing registry errors

this is the first computer problem i've run into where i can't find a solution, so it's frustrating

also i've tried three different keyboards, a logitech g15, and a standard dell keyboard; they all do produce the same error.

thanks.

Control-shift-zero usable w/in apps. The following was true under Windows 7:
An input method editor (IME) keyboard shortcut lets you switch the input

Yoga 2-11 Yesterday the CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and ALT-CTRL-DEL functions stopped working; strangely CTRL-V works fine. It's very difficult to get the @  and ? symbols to appear, but capital letters using the same Shift key are fine. Also, when I would type, several of the same letter would appear, and when pressing the space bar several spaces would appear. I fixed this issue by adjusting my keyboard settings by setting the repeat rating to the slowest setting. I've used device manager to uninstall the keyboard, also updated drivers, etc, but nothing seems to fix things. Using Windows Key R and OSK to display the onscreen keyboard, and using my physical keyboard for input confirms that the Shift and CTRL keys work. One thing that I noticed: when I touch the CTRL key a round onscreen circle appears and gets smaller and disappears; this is also true for CTRL-X and CTRL-C, but when using CTRL-V the circle does not appear.

So, recently (as in within the last half hour of writing this) I've given my keyboard a quick clean-down. My cat knocked a drink onto the number pad, so I dried it off and cleaned it as best I could. Everything seems to be working fine, now - Arrow keys, all numberpad keys, num lock, scroll lock, caps lock, the whole shibang. Everything works... Except for my ctrl keys.

Can't use any keyboard shortcuts, can't ctrl+alt+delete, can't use any program shortcuts that require the ctrl key (Such as Puush) and it's driving me nuts! This isn't a problem with one key, either, because it's occurring with both the left and right ctrl keys.

My keyboard is just an off-the-shelf supermarket variety so I couldn't tell you guys a brand/model number. But as far as I can tell everything else works. While cleaning the keyboard, I did mash the num-pad (and some of the right-hand-side keys) with a towel a few times and I think I might have hit some kind of key combination that turned off the ctrl keys. That or the spill somehow shorted out one very specific function.

Are there any key combinations that would cause the ctrl keys to stop working? Specifically ones on the right-side of a keyboard/numpad? Or is this keyboard just buggered? Thanks!

A:Ctrl keys not working after keyboard clean

Sounds like it's buggered.
Unless something got into the contacts for the control keys themselves, it's extremely unlikely for something to effect just one or two keys.
It the drink was plain water, it normally won't hurt it after drying it'll function correctly, it it was a sugary drink, the sugar could insulate the contacts. Can sometimes rinse under warm water and allowed to dry.
If really ambitious or just plain curious, you can tear it apart and clean the contacts, but keyboards are cheap enough that it's seldom worth it as a repair.
try a different keyboard to see if that helps.

Hi. In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that using shift+del in text input areas, such as Notepad, OOo Writer, browser text fields, etc - pretty much anywhere I can input text - shift+del is acting identically to ctrl+v. I don't know why this is occurring and I want to make it stop. I have not intentionally done anything to change key mapping.

Does anyone know anything about shift+del acting identically to ctrl+v? I know that shift+del is used to bypass the Recycle Bin when deleting files, and in fact that is the only topic I can find when Googling about this (adding "paste" does not seem to help my search results).

ETA: I should add that my keyboard is pretty standard and nothing had changed with it since I started noticing this...

A:Shift+Del somehow became identical to ctrl+v?

The behavior you are getting is the old-school shortcut method. Windows honors both the old shortcuts and the new shortcuts

SHIFT+DEL -> Cut -> CTRL+X
CTRL+INS -> Copy -> CTRL+C
SHIFT+INS -> Paste -> CTRL+V

btw, SHIFT+DEL is CUT and not PASTE. SHIFT+INS is PASTE

How long has CTRL+C been kaput?

If it has been for a while, there is a good chance the keyboard itself is already kaput and needs replacing.

Is this a laptop or a desktop?

Are both left and right CTRL / SHIFT affected?

In W7, When Booting the USB works fine and I have a mouse, but when it gets to the login screen the keyboard and mouse just go black and do not function at all in W7. W10 works fine all the time.

I installed W7 after W10 and got everything loaded for SP2 and so on(using the pad/keys on the laptop), all drivers install fine and W7 updates are all in.

In order to even get into W7 though I must go into BIOS and turn off security settings and turn on CSM. Also must turn off Fast boot function. Not doing these things just locks the W7 load screen where the color dots are in mostion then lock.

Is there a way to get the USB to be working on W7 from login screen and into desktop?

Am using the W10 Dual boot selection screen after install of W7 used "bcdboot %windir%" to set that up.

Will I need to redo the W7 install? (Hope not)

Any suggestions?

Hello, I am having a very strange behavior. When I press and hold the SHIFT key, it will not persist. For example, if I wanted to type a row of "*", I press the shift key and hold it, and it will type "*****888888". This happens on the laptop keyboard, a USB keyboard I attached, and the on screen keyboard, so it does not appear to be a hardware problem.

It seems as though the shift is activated for only about a second when I press and hold the shift key, and then it reverts back.

The same thing happens to the CTRL key. Very annoying when trying to do cut/paste (ctrl-c/ctrl-v).

Can anyone help?

If I am deleting a bunch of text, I will highlight it with the keyboard by holding shift + ctrl and using the left arrow to go back and select it all and then erase it.

Today, when I press those keys, nothing happens. I can highlight words by holding shift and hitting the left arrow. I can move one word at a time by holding ctrl and hitting the left arrow. But when I do them at the same time, nothing happens. Sticky keys is off. Filter keys is off.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W530. Got it about three months ago, with Windows 7 Pro-64 installed. My issue is that the keyboard shortcut to Run As Administrator doesn't work, whether I use Ctrl-Shift-Click or Ctrl-Shift-Enter (where appropriate). Instead, the program just opens normally, with no UAC prompt. The only way I can find to Run As Administrator (without changing the program or shortcut properties) is through the context menu.

Any thoughts or suggestions on why the shortcut might not be working and how I can remedy it?

A:Ctrl-Shift-Click does NOT Run As Administrator for me

You could try SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

In Windows Explorer, there is a little-known keyboard shortcut, Ctrl-Shift-NumPadPlus, that causes the columns in the file listing window to be automatically resized to their optimum value. This keyboard shortcut has stopped working. Does anyone know how to get it back?

I try to bind Photoshop to ctrl+shift+P and it doesn't work. I can use ctrl+alt+P but that requires to hands as I push ctrl+alt with my left ring finger and index finger. When I use ctrl+shift I use my ring finger and middle finger to press them while using my index to push the third key. So I'm thinking something else is binded to ctrl+alt+P, but when I press them, nothing happens so why isn't it letting me bind those three?

A:Can't bind programs to ctrl+shift+(key)

Is this what you are doing: Create keyboard shortcuts to open programs

I just tried it and it works okay.

I am used to typing the name of an URL in the address bar on IE, then use Ctrl-Shift plus Enter to have http://www. and .com autofilled.

However, somehow this feature suddenly disappeared tonight. First when trying the same, it led to Google search, but, after rebooting, it now gives me an error mesage:
You were looking for "backchina" but that domain is not on this server.
Apache/2.2.8 (Fedora) Server at plus.vern.com Port 80
This occurs to any addresses.
XP Pro, IE 7.0.

Thanks.

A:IE Ctrl-Shift-Enter disabled

I have figured it out.

I used to always use CTRL + Shift + Arrow Key to highlight a whole word but now when I try CTRL + SHIFT + Arrow Key it changes one of my monitors screen orientation.

I have dual monitors if you are confused with the above statement.

I would like to know how to change it back to highlighting a word rather then changing the screen orientation.

This would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect the problem is in video card related crapware from manufacturer.
You can try the following (for ATI cards):
1. Backup current installed driver with DriverBackup!
to a folder ABC.
2. Turn off your internet connection (unplug cable or shutdown wireless)
3. Uninstall all ATI video drivers and related stuff (Catalyst Control Center, other staff with ATI in the name, etc) through Control Panel Programs and Features.
4. DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM INSTALL DRIVER AUTOMATICALLY. Cancel if it will try.
Instead manually install driver - Control Panel - System - Device manager. You video card will be with small yellow triangle on it, Right click - Properties- Driver tab - Update Driver - Browse my computer for driver software - Browse to ABC folder (see 1). Click Next button.

Please let us know if it worked for you.

I'm using a Lenovo U300s.  Overall it's a solid laptop, but there's one thing that's really bothering me. I use the shortuct combination, CTRL+SHIFT+T, quite often.  It's supposed to re-open the most recently closed tab in Firefox, Chrome, and IE. Unfortunately, on my U300s, it opens up some screen whose function seems to be to select a desktop image.  I'm not very clear what this screen is supposed to do, but it's clearly not nearly as useful as re-opening the most recently closed tab. Is there any way to disable this? Thanks,Andrew

A:CTRL+SHIFT+T - What does this hotkey do, and how can you disable it?

One thing to check is the graphics driverAdvanced settings, if Intel. It has shortcuts, which you can disable.

Okay, I've had this problem for almost a month now and I've yet to find a solution.

When I'm running certain program, my computer seems to think that the shift and ctrl keys are in a pressed position even though they're not. I didn't realize it until I was trying to configure my tablet buttons to keyboard commands and the input box said that I was pressing the ctrl and shift keys. This also occurs when I'm playing fullscreen games or using flash. Otherwise, its fine, I haven't had any problems with other applications.

I know this is not sticky keys because I don't even have that option on my computer, and its not my keyboard as it works fine most of the time, its only with some programs that it occurs. Could anyone help me

Hey guys, a couple weeks ago I bought an Asus S551LB which comes with a 24 GB SanDisk SSD for cache. But when I got it it was way too slow, so I decided to clean install windows 8.1 instead of updating through the store. SO all was well until yesterday I realised,, to my horror, that the 24 GB disk is 100% Free and there are no read/write stats in the Task Manager. I tried installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology, but it turns out it only works with a RAID SATA.
I tried installing ExpressCache, but I found no official files on the Asus site, so I had to resort to looking for the files around forums, until I came across the Installer from Lenovo. But, as my luck should have it, it has not worked...
Anybody know how I can make the SSD start working as cache again?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I wouldn't mind reinstalling Windows 8.1 as I have nothing valuable on it and I have the installation DVD with me, so suggest anything, as I saw that I need to have no OS installed to change the SATA options, as at this moment I only get AHCI as an option in the Bios.

A:[SOLVED] Clean install Windows 8, SSD Cache not working.

You have access to the drive correctly? Does it show in Windows?

Was Windows 8.1 installed on the PC before?

This happened on occasion in XP also, but now on my new Laptop with Win7 I see it happening again. Every now and again for some reason I cannot select random files (in a file handler) by holding down the CRTL key and selecting desired files with the left mouse button.

Also sometimes the SHIFT key will not let me select the first and last files for a group selection.

And then again on another boot up they both work again until some unknown combination of events messes it up again.

Anybody know what does this ?

A:Shift and Ctrl with Mouse left button

What brand laptop? and are you using the touchpad, or a mouse.

If it is the touchpad see if there is a driver update from the laptop Mfg. Also try blowing out the keyboard with a can of air, you may have some food /crud under the keys.
