Connect Dell U2415 Monitor to Pavilion dv7

Q: Connect Dell U2415 Monitor to Pavilion dv7

I recently purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2415 monitor to use with my HP Pavilion dv7. None of the cables that came with the monitor work with my dv7. The cable that came with the monitor is called a DP v1.2 Cable (DP = Display Port). Is there a way to connect this monitor to my laptop? Can an HDMI cable be used?Is there anything like a DP to VGA conversion cable? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Soundbar works if connected to port 6 on the back of the monitor (USB downstream) but not if I connect to port 9a or 9b on the bottom of the monitor. The upstream cable is connect to port 8 on the bottom of the monitor. Other charging devices (eg phone) work on 9ab but the soundbar doesn't. Can anyone help please?

A:Connect AC511 Soundbar to USB ports 9ab on U2415 monitor

The preferred USB downstream port for the AC511 and the U2415 is the #6 back/rear USB downstream port. For testing, disconnect all other USB devices from #9a and #9b. Test the AC511 on those ports by itself.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver.  I have two monitors daisy chained with DP / mini DP cables.  I want to configure to a dual monitor display, but the second monitor is not recognized and is mirroring the first monitor.  DP1.2 is enabled on the first monitor, and disabled on the second monitor.  Any advice on how to get the computer to recognize the second monitor?  Thanks for any help!

See this companion thread on Dell's forum detailing my unsucessful attempts to use Dell U2415 monitors with my Thinkpad T450s. As of now, the moderator of that site has not been able to identify a solution. I have two of the u2415 monitors, and it seems extremely unlikely both pieces of hardware are defective. Therefore, am assuming this is a problem with the Thinkpad. Any ideas what might be going wrong? When I press F7 it gives me the option to select "extend", etc, but nothing appears on the monitor. Similarly, the monitor realizes something is plugged into its DP port (via the mDP port on the Thinkpad), but it is receiving no picture. So it's close to working, but is not working. Appreciate any help. Anyone else currently using a Thinkpad T450s with a Dell U2415? Barring responses from others with different experiences, I would not recommend buying a Dell U2415 if you hope to connect it to this model of Thinkpad. Though given that the problem appears to be on the Thinkpad's end, I guess I wouldn't recommend buying the Thinkpad if you're averse to these kinds of connectivity issues.

Hi Scaryface,
Thank you for reaching out to Dell Community Forum.
Both xps13 (9343 and monitor Dell u2415 have mini-display ports. You can connect the system and monitor using a mini-DP-to-DP cable.

I didn't have this problem on the Dell 2405FPW that was previously connected to this same machine & port. The U2415 is plugged into the same host DisplayPort on a Lenovo M900 running Windows 7. The 2405FPW was connected with a DP-DVI cable. The U2415 is connected with the Dell-supplied DP-mDP cable. The problem is ALL of the windows are getting redrawn when the windows machine comes out of screensaver blanking. NOT from actual Sleep or Hibernation. The PC is configured to never sleep, nor put any device into any kind of low power mode. Hybrid sleep is also disabled. USB selective suspend is also disabled. The power option is set to "Turn off the display: 20 minutes" and the software screensaver is set to Photo Gallery with a 15 minute wait time. Logon on resume is selected. The M900 uses an integrated Intel 530 display driver, and as a tiny machine there are no options to change the video card. What appears to be happening is the display is being "disconnected" from the software and when it's "reconnected" on wake the OS then proceeds to start re-drawing all the windows. This is problematic as some of the windows are getting reloaded (browser sessions). What's going on? Should I avoid using the mDP port? If so, why? I can obtain a DP-HDMI cable if necessary.

I recently bought an Inspiron 7559 laptop and then decided to clone the HDD with a Sandisk 1TB SSD. I also added another 8GB main memory. I replaced the drive and the PC worked just fine.
After a few days, I quick formatted the HDD and put it back in as a Data D drive. The day I did that Dell upgraded my BIOS and on reboot soon after a square block of white area appeared on the top left quadrant of either of my screens, the laptop or the U2415 (also brand new.) If I move between the screens then the other does not show the anomaly.
If I right click on the task bar and bring the desktop up the block gets painted over/filled with the background. However if I start an app, say a browser the block re-appears. I did Dell diagnostics which passed all the components and then also diagnostics via the BIOS and that also did not show any problem. I decided against the longer diagnostic for now.
There does not seem to be any issues but it would be good to solve it...maybe something came loose when I opened the back and replaced the SSD or the HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have read a number of posts having similar issues but so far have not succeeded in getting anything to work, so I am hoping someone can help me.

I have a new 2016 Skylake XPS 13 and am trying to connect to an external monitor.

I have plugged the USB-C cable into the thunderbolt port and then into both HDMI options on the back of the monitor.  I keep getting a message "there is not signal coming from your computer".

I have hit F8 and cycled through the options but nothing seems to work in terms of outputting a signal.  Can someone help coach me through what I am missing here?

Thanks so much.

Hi to all,

this is my first post on this forum!
I' ve purachased today a new flammant dell u2415. I love the design and the potential of this monitor!Actually i haven't a desktop pc but only a laptop auss k52jt with vga and hdmi port.
Today i install the driver of the monitor on my laptop, then i connected the laptop (graphi card -  ati HD6370 M ) to the monitor... but notinhs happens...only the message "no dp cable".
I thinked :"Why the monitor ask me display port cable if i connected hdmi?"
On graphic card properties the dell appears like the 2 monitor. Iextend the desktop to the monitors (my laptop and dell) but nothing happens...
I've updated the drivers from amd-ti site. I installed the latest catalyst and ... my laptop monitor loose all the brightness! I can view the video only with a torch!
Then i was be able to restore the precedent windows without these drivers. Then i install the latest driers 8.8.84 of my graphic card from asus site... it was ok!
But nothing changed. Also with catalyst i can see the dell monitor via hdmi but video don't show up.
I dont' know what i do. Have suggestions?Do I have to but dp to hdmi adapter? But why hdmi direct cable configuration is wrong?
Thanks
Gabriele

There are two hdmi port the input and the output, you have to check it.
I don't think it is needed to install the drivers of the monitor to your laptop.

Hi everyone,
I have a new hardware:

Dell XPS13 (9360) with Thunderbolt 3
Dell U3417W 34" monitor  (3440x1440 px)

I have prepared everything on my table because I had no idea that new Dell only has Thunderbolt 3 and no mini display port. I was kind of surprised (in a bad way) that I will need another reduction.
The problem is that I can only input display port, mini display port and HDMI into the new Dell U3417W monitor. I am not sure how much resolution I can squeeze from HDMI, so what is left are those display ports.
Should I buy USB-C -> Display port cable like for e.g. Startech USB Type-C to Displayport cable, 1m (CDP2DPMM1MB) which could possibly do the job? Or perhaps even some Thunderbolt 3 cable?
I need to have 3440x1440 px @ 60 Hz where some of those cables support only @30 Hz and they do not explicitly state that 3440x1440px resolution is supported.
I would rather avoid those bugged Dell docking stations where the whole internet (e.g. Amazon) is snowed by users complaints.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I want to start by noting that I have read the threads for similar issues on this forum and they have not helped me to solve the issue.  Just want to show that I've made a good faith effort to figure this out before asking! Products involved: HP Pavilion 22cwa 21.5" IPS LED Backlit Monitor; 2015 MacBook Pro running Sierra 10.12.3; Cablelera High Speed HDMI with Ethernet, Male/Male, 6' Black Color Bug overview: Difficult to connect HP Pavilion 22cwa 21.5" monitor to 2015 MacBook Pro via HDMI cable. Every time either the computer or the monitor is turned off, I have to repeat annoying process of pressing button next to power button repeatedly (which takes about 30-40 seconds because the monitor only seems to register presses of that button every 4-7 seconds or so) and So I took a break from writing this to look for drivers and ran across this webpage, the relevant excerpt being, "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment." Am I wasting my time? It's very frustrating to have to reconfigure the monitor every time I turn off either the monitor or the computer. It's not the worst problem in the world but frankly yes, I was hoping that my monitor would interface a little bit more smoothly with my laptop. Is there a solution to this? Thank you very much for your time!

A:Very difficult to connect HP Pavilion 22cwa 21.5" monitor to...

Also, the first three buttons (including the first button, which is the menu button) do absolutely nothing until I've gotten the monitor connected to my computer, which again takes at least half a minute of mashing the fourth button. The product is very frustrating. To be clear: the method I've outlined doesn't always work. Sometimes mashing the fourth button won't connect the monitor to my laptop, and after a minute I'll give up, power my laptop and the monitor off and then on again, and give it another shot. It's extremely inconvenient.

Hey there @ahdr, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are trying to connect another display to your All-in-One computer. I am happy to give you a hand with this. Looking at the HP Pavilion 23-q106a TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC Product Specifications, the only available pure graphics port is the one HDMI connection. The other option would be to use a USB to ( DVI/VGA/HDMI) type of adapter which normally includes its own video adapter built in. Looking at the HP Pavilion w1907 Monitor - Product Specifications, you have two connection options for the display itself, either DVI or VGA. You could try a DVI to HDMI connection. Also, you can look at this document: HP Desktop PCs - Connecting Monitors and TVs to Your PC (Windows 10, 8).  Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

We got two new Dell XPS 13 for users and there does not seem to be any video out ports like on previous models.  This runs Windows 10 Professional and has an internal screen resolution of 1920x1080.  Looks like there is 2 USB 3.0 super speed ports and possibly a (thunderbolt)??? port?
I've heard of USB-C so I'm not sure if this one port on the left side is that, or if its thunderbolt.  I googled thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and in all the images I find it always shows a mini display port on one end despite the descriptions saying thunderbolt.

So whats the cheapest way to get HDMI out on this laptop?

Hi,
The Thunderbolt( USB Type C port) on the Left Hand side deals with the video output on the system. You will need to purchase a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to display video.

Hi - I currently have a Dell OptiPlex™ GX270 to which I would like to connect an HP monitor. The monitor has a VGA cable, a DVI cable and an audio cable (and obviously a power cable). The Dell has VGA input, and, as far as I can tell not DVI. Do I need to be able to connect DVI in order to use this monitor? Also, monitor has built-in speakers. I am assuming the audio cable for that would go into the same input that I currently use for my free standing speakers. The monitor has that Bright View Technology which looks quite nice. My system has 512 ram, Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz processor and plenty of hard disk space. Bottom line - is this pc up to the task of this monitor connection? Even though this Dell is sort of old, it still runs fine and I see no need to dump it at this juncture - especially since any new pc's only come with Win7. I like xp. Anyway, any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

HELP! I am trying to connect my Dell U2412M 24" monitor to my Lenovo 720 Yoga Laptop.  I need to see a large screen for a spreadsheet for a project that is due immediatelly. I last used this monitor with my prior coputer, with a simple HDMI cable.  No such port on my 720, as far as I can see... 1.  Is there a hidden HDMI port on the 720- Yoga? 2.  If not, Can I use the regular, "box" USB port?  I do NOT need audio, just video. 3.  What specific cable will work?  Cheap is best, this monitor is not touch screen and was in a vehicle file and may not even work well.  It does turn on though... 4.  MUST I use the USB-C port on the Lenovo 720?  I strongly prefer not to, as it is occupied already, and I don't want to buy an expensive double port gizmo.  I just need to hook up this monitor, and quickly, for video. 5.  If I MUST use the USB-C port on the 720, same question as above, what is the CHEAPEST cable or gizmo that I need?  Where to get (Amazon, Best Buy, Micro Center, etc.).  A link to a specific product would be greatly appreciated. I am VERY frustrated!  I tried to contact Micro Center, Dell, Lenovo and Best Buy by chat, phone, etc.  No luck with any of those!  So, please help! Thank you!

Hi:
I have connected the monitor to the laptop with an HDMI cable and the monitor says there is no signal in the HDMI port. Then (a couple of minutes later), the signal is received and the monitor shows what I have in my laptop. However, this is intermittent and the signal is lost and restored. This happens sometimes when I’m opening a new program or the program I’m using starts to use more resources from the processor. I already have installed the monitor driver for Dell P2815Q. I’m using Windows 10.
I’m thinking that maybe I will have better luck with a USB 3 cable. What do you recommend?
 Thanks,
 Javier

A:How do I connect an Inspiron 7737 to a Dell P2815Q monitor (with USB?)

USB would mean DisplayLink, which has a number of drawbacks compared to attaching the display to an output directly controlled by the GPU, such as possible compression artifacts and/or motion judder during times of high CPU and/or USB utilization, or simply when large portions of the display area are changing simultaneously.  Additionally, due to a Windows limitation, your GeForce dPGU would not be able to accelerate any content displayed on a DisplayLink-attached display. But about your specific issue, given that you're trying to run 4K, have you tried just swapping the HDMI cable?  Not all HDMI cables are equal when it comes to pushing very high bandwidth.  That said, I don't know if that system's HDMI port will even do 4K @ 60 Hz, since that requires HDMI 2.0 and most Dell systems I've seen have only had HDMI 1.4, which would limit you to 4K @ 30 Hz or 1440p @ 60 Hz.

This happened to me when I enabled DP 1.2 option in the menu.
If that is the case, you do not have a DP 1.2 compatible hardware and software/OS. (perhaps if you are using a linux machine)

When your monitor tells no signal... push a menu button for about 10 seconds. It will show you other input sources, keep pushing. Then it will bring a menu to disable DP 1.2. Disable it. Restart the computer.
Hope this helps

If that is the case, you do not have a DP 1.2 compatible hardware and software/OS. (perhaps if you are using a linux machine)

When your monitor tells no signal... push a menu button for about 10 seconds. It will show you other input sources, keep pushing. Then it will bring a menu to disable DP 1.2. Disable it. Restart the computer.
Hope this helps

I have a Dell XPS 13 laptop running Windows 10. I have just purchased a Dell U2515H monitor which I am waiting for delivery for as we speak. I believe the monitor has quiet a few inputs however I am not 100% sure which lead to get to connect them both and which port I use on the Dell Laptop. Looking on the left hand side of my laptop there is a port with a lightning sign next to it, is that called Thunderbolt? and is that my monitor/display port? and what lead do I need? it looks like some sort of micro socket!

Plz help?

You might get a better response if you re-post this in the Monitors forum.
Be sure to mention the PC model and the video port being used when you post over there.

My HP monitor works on old HP pc with windows 8. It does not work on HP - Pavilion 550-179na Desktop PC with windows 10. I get a 'not connected' message. All products are HP. The new PC works with a borrowed monitor. Any help gratefully received.

A:HP monitor not working with new Pavilion. Monitor DOES work ...

Hi there @Beelady11, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.  I understand that one display is not working with your new computer, but it works with an older one without trouble. I am happy to help you with this. What is the model of the display you are trying to use?Have you checked for drivers for that display? What type of connection are you using to the computer? (VGA/DVI/HDMI)Are you using the exact same connection on the computer when you test with another display? There is a possibility that if you are testing using different connectors, that the ones on the board itself are disabled. This would depend on whether a video card is installed or if you are using the integrated display adapter.See the: HP Pavilion 550-179na Desktop PC Product Specifications and you will seethe following note for the integrated graphics adapter.Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed. This means that the on-board video connections, linked to the integrated adapter would be disabled. Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I have an XPS 13 9350 Core i5 (with Thunderbolt/USB type C).  Using a USB 3.1 type C to DisplayPort adapter connected to the XPS 13, then daisy chaining the monitors via DisplayPort cables (regular displayport, not mini displayport). The windows device manager sees all three Dell U2415 (DisplayPort) monitors.  Here's what I've found through troubleshooting:
If I have DP 1.2 enabled on monitors 1 and 2, and disabled on monitor 3, I get an extended desktop spanning across monitors 1 and 2, but a black screen on monitor 3.
If I leave all three monitors to DP 1.2 disable, I get my XPS 13 screen CLONED on all three U2415's.
If I set monitor 1 to DP 1.2 enable, then monitors 2 and 3 to DP 1.2 disable, I get an extended desktop on monitor 1, but monitors 2 and 3 are cloned.
What I need is to use all three U2415 monitors in extended mode, not cloned.
Is this not possible for some reason?  I've even tried three different U2415s (which I have at my office) with the same result, just to rule out the chance that I had a bad one.
Thank you!

A:XPS 13 (9350), three U2415, disable laptop screen

Update: I was able to get all 3 U2415's working in extended desktop - I had to disable the XPS 13's built-in display via Windows Display Settings, then I was able to enable monitor #4 (which is the 3rd U2415) and all is now well.  Apparently the XPS 13 9350 cannot drive 4 total monitors (including its own) at once extended desktop mode?Which is OK for me as I'll be using this setup with the XPS 13 closed anyways.

My home desktop is connected to a wireless router through AT&T U-verse and it's broadcasting just fine. I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.
