2 Search boxes?

Q: 2 Search boxes?

Since the update I now have 2 search boxes in the navigation bar, (which is kind of stupid why would you need 2? :s )

The smaller one on the right hand side is positioned right where the refresh button was and so I keep clicking on the 2nd search box instead (and it's really beginning to p* me off) as well as it taking up room from the address bar so preventing me from
seeing long address's and quickly edit them without lots of annoying back and forthing with arrow keys...
I've hunted though everything I can think of, including the Regedit and I can't find anything to turn the 2nd one off other than to have the tabs on the same line as the original address/search bar, which makes the address bar even smaller.
*faceplant's keyboard*
Any help on figuring out how to get rid of this thing and getting the address/search bar back to normal would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,Since you have ran ComboFix it is best that you post the log for review by a Malware Response Team member. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic. If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Hi,
Firstly, we need to check the following:
1.  Do you mean the issue is only occurred on yahoo and google website?
2.  How about other browsers? Do they also meet the same issue?
Based on your description, I would like to suggest you try the following to check the issue:
1. To get the latest adobe flash player
Download and install the latest flash player on your computer by visiting the link below.
Install Adobe Flash Player
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
2.  Run Internet Explorer Performance Troubleshooter.
The Internet Explorer Performance Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check for any performance issues which are common with the Internet Explorer on the computer and

provides the details on how to fix them. Follow these steps and run the troubleshooter.
a. Press ?Windows Logo? + ?W? keys from the keyboard.
b. Type ?Troubleshooting? in the search bar and press ?Enter?.
c. In the ?Troubleshooting? window, click on ?View All? on the left pane.
d. Click on ?Internet Explorer Performance?.
e. Click on ?Advanced? and then click on ?Run as Administrator?.
f. Click ?Next? and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
3. Run IE with no add-ons as Rob said. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).

4. Reset Internet Explorer settings

Last week c. 11-Apr-2015 I rebooted my laptop and it actioned a pile of updates. After restart the start menu search box had disappeared. (Press the start menu and it should be below 'all programs', but it's gone). I moved the taskbar in case it was hiding - not there. I created a new account in-case one of my tweaks had made it go away - not showing in there either. Now I realise the the explorer search box (top right corner) is gone as well.

The search box was the only thing that made the W7 start menu half usable, and they've taken that away. And the file filter - how I'd love to see the XP search window with the stupid doggy now.

Anyone else seen this? Explain what's going on?

Why do search boxes consist of only a single line?

For example, mapquest and Yahoo maps. Addresses are often listed with multiple lines.

123 Main St.
Anywhere, USA

So, why don't the search boxes accommodate copying & pasting of these multiple lines for searching all at once? Why is each line divided up into a single box?

Thanks.

A:Why are search boxes single lined?

That's an interesting question. Search engines work by searching for key words that you enter. Plus it would be a waste of space to have two when one is sufficient enough. The reason for multiple lines for an address would be for an Apartment number, or special delivery instructions, for example address + behind building or something of that nature.

In the last week or so, I have been getting similar extra ad boxes at several different websites.  I have also had tabs pop themselves up acting like a search engine whenever I run a search.

I have updated and run Bitdefender scans twice and neither came up with any problems beyond cookies though I am sure I am infected with something.

I did notice a couple of programs which I did not knowingly download on my computer - Ophcheck and GIMP.  They were either downloaded by someone else or were somehow unintentionally downloaded.  I am guessing one or both of these to be the cause, but I do not want to attempt to remove the programs unless I know it is safe to do so.

So far, the computer's performance has not been noticeably affected.  I am running Windows 7 on my HP G60-630US Notebook.  I have seen these issues on both IE 9 and Chrome 26.

Would it be advisable to see if removing these programs would work, or should I run another tool to verify a further infection?

Thanks in advance.

A:Hyphens automatically fill up my Url Search and PW boxes.

I don't use Microsoft accounts except for the occasional upload to OneDrive.  I also log into my system using a local account, not the Microsoft Account that M$ attempts to force people to use in Windows 8.1+.
This is a guess, but it would seem that it may be filling up the field because you've automatically saved the userid/password in the credentials area.  Try this:
1.  Open Control Panel.
2.  Click on Credential Manager.
3.  Look at both Web and Windows Credentials.
4.  Try and find the "------" and delete it.
5.  If you can't find the "------" in number 4, delete all saved  Credentials.
Have a great day!

Hello.

I wonder if you can help me with something. I have created a Form where there are 4 drop down boxes that collect data from 3 tables. How can I use that form to search for all the records matching one or more criteria chosen from those drop down boxes and display other fields on a report or a table?

The case is:
Tables

Table_Candidates (number of candidate, name, date of birth, address,…)
Table_Professional_Habilities (professional experience, years on the job…)
Table_College_Observations (College attended, degree, years, field of expertise…)

Form – Drop Down Boxes

Professional experience
College attended
Degree
Years
Age
Result Expected (How do I get this? In a table or a report, it doesn’t make a difference)

Number of candidate
Name
Professional Experience
College Attended
Degree
Field of expertise
Age (how can I calculate this from date of birth?)

I've been advised to use Expression Builder. But the query isn't working because itreturns blank. Should I only select the fields on the Expression Builder (as an example, this is what it appears " [Forms]![New_Frm_Parameters_Selection]![Combobox17] "? Or should I make another expression?

Thank you very much.

I have a toughbook that is running Windows XP Pro and IE8. Starting a couple days ago, it started making me click multiple times to be able to type in a search box on just about any website including Google. What I mean by clicking multiple times is, when I am in another program and click in the search box of the website to switch to the Internet Explorer window, I have to click 2 or more times before it will switch to that window and allow me to type in the box. Today I noticed that if I just mouse over a search box like Google's search box, the cursor will very quickly switch back and forth from the to the , and it will display the "Google Search" tooltip when the arrow is displayed. I have tried using Firefox to see if it happens there as well, but Firefox works fine. I have started Internet Explorer with no addons and it still does it. I have also uninstalled IE8 and used IE6 and IE7 but they both still have this problem. It doesn't seem to happen on bing.com but on every other site I have this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am having trouble with my Arial font coming through in bold. I have Googled this problem and tried all three fixes one for running Firefox in compatibility mode, one for turning off hardware acceleration neither of those worked. But the last one that I found suggested that I reinstall my Arial font due to it maybe being corrupted somehow. I did this and restarted Firefox and yes it was back to normal. However the fix does not last past a reboot (hard or normal (aka soft)), or hibernating, or after waking up from a nap (sleep). I can however reinstall the font that I got and fix the problem again but I want it to last. Does anyone know what may be causing this. All I can think of is running the Arial32.exe as administrator, it's the only thing that I haven't tried... yet.

I also haven't tried using a *.ttf type font installer but if I do that what should (if I have to) name/rename the font file in order for it to overwrite the original default Arial font for Windows. I am asking that because I don't know where to find the list of installed fonts for windows and or if the default Arial font has a different filename associated with it. I am running Windows 7 64bit just in case that has anything to do with the reason why the Arial32.exe is having trouble sticking.

Thanks for any help and if I manage to figure it out on my own I will post the fix for others. And for those of you out there who are having the same problem and are looking for an answer let me... Read more

I have a serious problem. One of the client computers I administrate where I work is not displaying text in some dialog/alert boxes and many properties boxes. This started two days ago; today, Internet Explorer does not display web sites correctly: boxes where the user can enter text to search are appearing as small squares too small to type and read, and the buttons in the web sites are reduced to thin lines and no text in them. Finally, Outlook 2000 no longer displays any of the folders (Inbox, tasks, contacts). This also occurred today.

But here is the truly strange part. It only happens under one user logon. Under a different user logon, there are no problems with Internet explorer, dialog/alert or properties boxes or Outlook 2000. And the user can access her mailbox from another machine without problems.

The computer is running Windows 2000 Pro, SP-2 and is attached to a company network and domain. I believe that the user's file may be corrupt in some way that is causing these errors to occur only when that one person is logged on. And that user has not added additional software to the computer because only the Network and Client Admins have the authority to install programs.

So far I've run an anti-virus program, run Detect and Repair on Office 2000 Premium and run the Emergency Repair Utility from the Windows 2000 Pro disc... twice. But nothing has improved. I'm at my wits end.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

I had difficulty using a NAS with torrent capabilities, mainly because I use Win 7, and also I could not replace the HD after it started to malfunction.

Right now, I'm using an old notebook with XP and an external HD for torrents. This is a lot easier to manage because I can disconnect the HD and access the data from a desktop if something goes wrong with the notebook. But the whole thing takes up too much physical space.

I found out that there are routers that have built-in software, including torrent clients, and external HDs can be attached to them. I'm thinking of getting that if the old notebook or router no longer works.

If anyone has been using these routers, let me know the ff.:

Can the contents of the external HD be read by Win 7? I need this in case I need to replace the external HD or back up the contents, especially if the router malfunctions.

Does these routers allow me to back up the settings as well as various torrent client files (like any tracker files, etc.)? That way, if the router malfunctions and I need to do a factory reset, I can restore not just the settings but also the list of trackers, etc.

A:NAS boxes, NAS Routers, and Torrent Boxes

Not all routers can do that. Apart from a few select models that ship ready to torrent (likely to charge you a lot for this feature as it requires high-end router hardware, like say this), only those that can install dd-wrt AND have enough internal space for that and Transimssion (the standard linux torrent client) can do it. This article is a good one
Since dd-wrt is basically linux running on ARM, the USB drive will be recognized and used just fine regardless of formatting (so windows will see its contents as well).

Routers generally don't malfunction unless you do something stupid (overclokcing their ARM processor), and if you add a generous swap file on the usb hdd (512 mb at most) you can avoid crashes and reboots due to Transmission acting up.

I personally prefer to leave routers alone as if you screw up you kill the only access to the internet you have.
And because their hardware sucks even if you cough up 200 bucks for the unit, so they can do a very limited amount of things other than routing network traffic and connecting to the Internet (if it is a modem-router).

I suggest to look at Raspberry Pi. As it is basically a mini-PC running linux, and can do micro-server roles, torrenting roles and even run XMBC. And is much easier to work with than a router, while keeping more or less the same price (40-ish euros/bucks shipping included). It sells for around the same price as an average modem-router, but can rob a router blind as far as features go.

When I go to different sites, such as iWin Games, the pictures and/or advertisements display as a full red box. I have tried a system restore, complete virus check (I have Aliant Internet Security Services), updated programs such as Internet Explorer, removed programs (games, Microsoft Office) I thought might have caused the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the top if IE, where it usually shows the name of the site you are visiting, it just shows little boxes. When the window is minimized, that is all it shows in the bottom bar as well. I think this happened when I loaded a new Defender Pro Anti-Virus program. What's wrong?

Thanks
DF

Sounds like a system font is missing or corrupt. If using XP you can run the "system file checker" by clicking on Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt.

In the command window, type "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) and press [Enter].
If SFC needs to restore a file you'll be prompted to insert your XP CD.

Q: Boxes

Hello, here is my system info;

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3, 32 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+, x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0
Processor Count: 1
RAM: 1023 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000, 128 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 300325 MB, Free - 272581 MB; D: Total - 4899 MB, Free - 1003 MB;
Motherboard: ASUSTek Computer INC., Kelut , 2.02, MB-1234567890
Antivirus: Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled

The main problem (among others); I log onto either IE or Firefox and a box eventually pops up. This box reads; "Cannot find" followed by a long listing of symbols. If I click to close the box or click on the "ok" button on the bottom of the box then a new window pops up displaying what "appears to be" a Google home page. Google is my home page. I say "appears to be" because the very first cursor I type into the displaying search bar results in the page jumping up to a new search bar at the top of the page as opposed to staying in the middle of the page. Many of these boxes pop up over the course of less than a minute and continue over time.

I have scanned with Malwarebytes, Adaware and my Spyware Doctor program but none of them is finding a solution. I have also used Hijack This and Spybot to no avail. The boxes just keep popping up and interfere with whatever I am trying to do.

A:Can someone tell me how to get rid of these boxes?

I know that Windows 7 has this feature.

Open an explorer window and under the Organize menu, choose Folder and Search Options

Select the View tab, and disable the checkbox labeled Use check boxes to select items.

Click OK.

It may be slightly different in Vista, I'm not 100% certain.

A:How do I get rid of those Grey Boxes

Windows XP
1. Click on the Start button and open the control panel.
2. Open the Performance and Maintenance control panel and go to Administrative Tools.
3. Now double-click on Services, then scroll to Messenger.
4. Double-click Messenger and click Stop to stop the service.
5. Change the startup type to Disable and click Apply at the bottom.
6. Click OK to exit window.

BTW, this has nothing to do with the MSN /Windows Messenger Instant Messaging service
Windows 2000
1. Click on the Start button -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Double click on Administrative Tools.
3. Now double-click on Services, then scroll to Messenger.
4. Double-click Messenger and click Stop to stop the service.
5. Change the startup type to Disable and click Apply at the bottom.
6. Click OK to exit window.

For Windows 95, 98, and ME
* Under Control Panel, select Add/Remove.
* Select Windows Setup.
* Select System Tools.
* Click Details.
* Uncheck WinPopUp.
* Click OK.
* Reboot

Alternative way is if you use a decent firewall then block ports 135,137,138,139,445 both TCP & UDP and both incoming & outgoing, that also stops other unwanted nasties

ok, here's another vb problem.

With the text box control. I gave it a vertical scrollbar using its scrollbar property. The text box is used to receive messages from another machine (chat program). now, whenver the text in the box exceeds the height of the box this is what happens:

1. scrollbar appears
2. txtbox is refocused to top of box
3. new text is printed at the bottom of the box
4. any new text that appears in the box repeats steps 2 & 3.

I want to be able to have the text box autoscroll, so that whenever new text is entered, the box stays focused on the new text. instead of refocusing at the top of the box.

Hi G0N,

Which browser are you using?

Do you mean that things are already filled into spaces when you get there? If you are using Internet Explorer, Autocomplete maybe turned on. There is a setting to let autocomplete help with forms. That setting can be cleared/ and is found by:

Clicking TOOLS on the top toolbar and selecting OPTIONS.
A window will open - click on the CONTENT tab.
Click on the AutoComplete Button - located in the personal information section.
The AutoComplete window will open. Uncheck the FORMS check box and click on clear forms.

I hope this helps,

Rigel

Few questions.
What browser are you using? Does it affect all browsers?
Have you made any edits to fonts or the colour scheme of xp via control panel?

Also test the following http://truegeeks.com/asp/aspexamples/gendate/edate1.asp

Hey,

I've been having this problem where these boxes keep popping up, some of them are:

Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~3\inetkw.dll

Error loading C:\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll

And I think there might be some others. I've tried posting this on other forums and looking everywhere but no one seems to have answers! Please Help, it's driving me crazy!

I have Windows XP

A:Boxes keep popping up!!! Please Help!

Download Adaware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.
The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.
Under the Scanning button:Scan within archives
Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING
In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected
Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level (this makes it easier for visitors to the Lavasoft Support Forums to see what options you have selected should you require assistance.)
Under the tweak button
Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:Unload recognized processes during scanning
Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan
Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include used command line parameters in logfile
In Cleaning Engine: XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion
Click Proceed to save these settings. When you would like to perform a "Full Scan," switch the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom

Hi, newby here. I have Windows Vista home premium. When online, I'm getting the red x's in white boxes where little icons should be, under my user profile only.

Under my wife's profile (administrator), all the sites work fine.

Like on ebay or paypal, some buttons I can't even see to click, until I run the mouse cursor over the spot.

I'm a member on other forums. Some of the forums are worse than others when it comes to the # of icons screwed up. Like the "add image" and "wrap quotes", all of those options are red x's in white boxes.

I've tried googling this many times and tried to fix it myself, but I need specific help to narrow down the problem. Please help! I payed for Norton and some kind of PC boost from them(live guy takes over your computer and "cleans it up), hoping that would help, but no.

They did help me narrow it down to a problem with Internet explorer, maybe. They downloaded Mozilla Firefox, and when I get online with that everything works fine!?

I'm not the most computer literate person. I'm comfortable with Internet explorer (all my favorites and what-not) and don't want to lose that or swith to something else.

I did do a system restore to a point months before. It worked for a day or two, but that was it.

Thanks in advance for any help, Mike

Hi there
A lot of people here back up to NAS boxes -- but remember These CAN fail as well (or at least an HDD can).
So I do suggest that you actually backup the stuff on your NAS from time to time -- you might NEVER need it but who knows.

NAS boxes (or things like Micro servers) are quite cheap these days -- re-installing music, re-ripping CD's and DVD's and possibly re-torrenting (assuming the stuff is still seeded any more) isn't worth the hassle.

I now have a Backup Box -- once a week I simply just copy the HDD's from NAS1 to NAS 2 --- job done.

I'd advise people to start thinking of things like this -- Backup is always good but you do need more than one copy. Don't rely 100% on your NAS box thinking you are 100% safe -- you probably will be but you never know.

Again re-creating data if you have this sort of failure might not be a problem - also if you have your stuff stored in the Cloud but if you've got several TB of music, and video then the Cloud won't be a feasable backup mechanism.

I'm actually not a big fan of commercial music streaming services or commercial digital downloads-- quality too low etc. I like High end FLAC rips of SACD's or even standard CD's - especially classical music. Things like Spotify are OK for PUB Background music or music listened to with cheap bud earphones but not for decent music listening.

For Video -- streaming is fine but I often like to watch stuff again and a lot of streaming services only make it available for a... Read more
