I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is a year old. It was completely fine until I noticed it had stopped charging the battery. After some googling I found there might be a BIOS update I had missed. When trying to install the BIOS update I get a message saying I have to plug in my computer first (which it always is as the batter doesn't have a charge).

The BIOS update program says it wants to upgrade as follows:

BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.60 --> Updated Ver.3.20
EC Version : Current Ver.1.80 --> Updated Ver.1.90

OS: Windows 7
BIOS file I downloaded: bios-20110714132558

Is this a known issue with a fix available?

A:Tecra S11-119 won't recharge battery - BIOS update issue too!

Are you sure that you have downloaded and used the right BIOS version!?
I read about the similar error message and finally the user used not compatible BIOS.

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed in order to update the BIOS!!! In you case I would recommend reinstalling this tool too.

But I?m not quite sure if BIOS update will help you to fix the battery issue?
Maybe you need to replace the battery?

I used to recharge my mp3 player on my computer using the usb connection but now this no longer works. I think it may have something to do with Flash disinfector disableing autoplay. The only other thing could be Returnil.

I have had a number of HP laptops over the years and they all have had the same problem.  I always keep the PC on, plugged into A/C,  and never run it on battery.  However, over time the battery slowly discharges until it goes to zero. In the past I have reported this problem to HP while the PC was still under warranty and they have sent me a free replacement battery, which does the same thing.   I no longer bother. However, recently, this recently caused McAfee to disable virus protection, and they finally solved it by turning off an internal switch which did a battery check. I also have HP desktops and have never had a problem with them, but I will never get another HP laptop. I've seen posts about getting a battery-charging device, but since I don't rely on the battery,  I'm not interested.  HP should build this capability into their laptop hardware. I am posting this so others know about this problem and can act accordingly.

Dell Battery original---53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for Inspirion 6400/E1505

This is may seem like a silly question, but I'm a real novice about computer and without asking I won't learn. My daughter's computer, listed above, will not retain a charge, she is still using the original battery. I am planning on buying a new battery. Actually I have two questions.

Question 1 Is it possible/probably that it is anything other than the battery that could be the problem. The computer works fine when plugged in. I know in a car, if the alternator isn't working the battery won't charge, changing the battery by itself, won't fix the problem. How about in a Lap top?

Questin 2 Where is the best place to buy a battery, least expensive, but quality?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks Mom

Let me just start off by saying that my laptop is a piece of junk, lol - I'm so frustrated with it right now. I'd love to just go out and get a new one but I'm a college student and there is no way I can afford too - so that means I have to make this computer last another year and a half for school.

One of the problems I'm having now is that my battery won't charge. I need to be able to take my computer to class and stuff and they don't all have plugs, so I need a working battery! This started about last May when the battery that I had for about 2-3 years started only holding a charge for about half an hour. I figured it was just on it's way out.

Then I had some more computer problems that resulted in a Dell guy replacing my motherboard (for reasons not related to the battery - and yes, my computer is still under warrenty). I figured, I just got a shiny new motherboard, I might as well invest in a new battery as well. So I ordered a new battery online and it worked fine when I first put it in, but now it won't charge.

I don't think it's the battery, it was new when I got it and worked fine until I needed to charge it. I also don't think it's the motherboard, since I just got that replaced.

Does anyone have any other ideas what it could be? Do you think it could be the power cord or something? I don't know! If it's something inside the computer I can get it replaced from Dell but they'r... Read more

A:Dell D600 Battery won't recharge

Remove the battery, and look at the contacts on the laptop and battery. Make sure they look clean. You can try changing the power cord but Dell might be the best source of information for what is involved with charging the battery.

I always assumed laptops had the battery charging circuit built into the motherboard, but it is possible there is a seperate circuit board for charging the battery.

Since its under warranty you might as well take advantage of it.

Hi, I joined specifically to ask this question. I've had a logitech wireless desktop for some time, about 2 years now I believe and I've never had a problem with it up until now. As of late the mouse has refused to recharge, why this is I do not know. The problem came up a few months ago off and on, and finally I thought I had it fixed, but last night it again refused to recharge. I think the problem might be that it's not making proper contact somewhere in the charger, then again i could be wrong, there's no ral way for me to know unless I crack the charger open and take a look, but seeing as how there's no way to really do that without risking futher damage I'm screwed.

Anyone out there with a site or some info. that might help me out??

A:Logitech mx700 mouse won't recharge anymore.

Just buy a new set of AA rechargeable batteries...they eventually get to a point where they will no longer charge.

I have an old Toshiba Satellite Pro P100, a refurbished model, which I got 2 years ago.
It has worked fine ever since I got it, but I went overseas for a month and left my laptop at home.
When I returned I found that the laptop battery won't recharge.

The battery power indicator on my desktop says 0% and it requires constant connection to the mains to work.
I've looked through the manuals, all they tell you is that a flashing orange light means low battery, but not what to do if it doesn't change.
I also looked online, but they don't help either.

What I want to know is whether there is a way to fix my battery or if I need to buy another.

A:Satellite Pro P100 - Battery fails to recharge

It looks like battery fault.
But check the battery connection firstly.

Remove the battery and after short time connect it again.
If this will not help then you should replace the battery and should test the notebook using new battery.

Firstly, just to say that this is a great little device but I like many have experienced teething problems during battery recharge.

My bios is is greater than v5, ie v5.2 now.
My experience in Nov 2015 was of battery number two not charging. It seemed to be something to do with the tablet connection, as on a few occasions just unclipping and reclipping seemed to then allow battery two to charge.

At this stage I will say that I primarily use the device like a mini laptop, rarely as a tablet, so am not generally clipping and unclipping the tablet all the time. For a while after it kept charging ok, no unclipping etc, all was well. Then I fitted a leather case, having to unclip the tablet to do so.

This triggered the battery numbr two no charge again. However after several unclips and reclips, plus a power off button sequence (as many have said before) my loveable Toshiba seemed fine at recharching both batteries again. Just a few days ago, though it went back into no charge of battery two mode. I wondered if the leather case was causing a slight uncoupling of the tablet to keyboard body and so removed the leather case, and unclipped and reclipped tablet and keyboard once again, this did not sovle the charging problem.

However closing down from the side power button and restarting several times seems to have solved the problem, again, perhaps only for the moment . . . I wait to see on my next recharge.

Also I have yet to see 12-13hrs available time shown o... Read more

Hi.Suddenly while using the notebook it shut down without a warning. I couldn't get it restarted so plugged the adapter in. It works fine then. However I do get the notification its not charging or that the powerlevel can't be displayed. When I unplug the notebook shuts down immediatly.I did the accucheck through F2 in the startscreen, it says there's no issue. I callibrated it thereafter manually, (fully charge, unplug and let the battery die, recharge to 100%). After this the notebook worked fine for about a week with the normal battery lifespan of around 5 hours. Now it has the exact same issue again. Doing the manually rebooting every week seems like a little bit of a hassle. Can anyone help me? Btw, I can't replace the accu in this notebook I believe so that's not an option.

Recharging fails, but the fault is not with the battery or the AC power supply.
The battery that came with the refurbished computer I accidentally ran down to 0% according to a Linux app or 1% according to BIOS and the BIOS said it was performing normally anyway; recharging never raised it. I've tried recharging a large new battery (9-cell) with the computer on and in use for about 8 hours, with the computer on and with the lid open but not in use for about 3 hours, and with the computer powered off for at least 8 hours and none of these attempts made any difference; before recharging the charge was never higher than 65% according to the app or 66% according to the BIOS and after trying to recharge it remained at 0% according to an app or 1% according to the BIOS and, according to the app, charging and, according to the BIOS, performing normally. The small replacement battery (6-cell) started at 77% according to the app and 76% according to the BIOS, which is the opposite of the readings of the other batteries. Altogether, I tried three batteries, at least two of them new. Charge levels never rose, only staying level or dropping, according to the BIOS or a Linux app.
I tried two power brick-and-cable sets with the same output voltage (one borrowed from another machine). The results were always failures.
The BIOS reports the existence of a second battery bay (I don't know where that bay is unless there's a dock that I don't have) and reports the second bay as e... Read more

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

I think the error ?edit bios setting? means that you should access the BIOS and should set the BIOS back to the default settings.

It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

A:Will upgrading the bios firmware on a Latitude D630 delete the bios admin password?

Didn't you reply here, and say it worked (after the unusual 9th try ) http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic109612-109.html#post747024

Awfully strange!

A bios update can't remove passwords. As You Must Know

Oh and thanks for the extended long Title. I'm thinking this Topic of yours would be best removed? What do you think?

Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

Hello my friends ! A time ago i bouhgt two Lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY (FreeDos Version) and install Windows 10 on it with UEFI and GPT Partition Table. All works fine until i want to play around with Linux and install UBUNTU Mate in UEFI on one of them. The install was easy but the Performance on Ubuntu with Bay Trail and the don't working Bluetooth was a reason to switch back to Windows 10. After that the Problem beginns. The Bios don't let me save changes anymore (only time and date !). There was no UEFI ESP and GPT Support since i install UBUNTU and the Bios Menu looks like that:Bios Entries on a blank DiskBootingThe Disk is Blank there is no ubuntu on there (Don't know waht the EFI Entries are no Hardware is connected). And when I boot also go to Network Boot there.(No Matter a USB Stick is connected). So what i did: # I Dismantle it and disconnect Battery and Cell and wait half an hour. # Nothing changes !# I change the HDD. # Nothing changes !# Reflash the BIOS by edit the plattform.ini - CheckByBios=1 - Error Cannot mount EFI Partition. # Nothing changes !# Install Windows 10 - Make mbr2gpt.exe and bcdedit and bootrec. # Nothing changes ! I can install and run Windows 10 in MBR and BIOS Mode on it. But no USB Stick was displayed in Boot Menu. So now Iam on my Limit and the Question is there a way to put UEFI and GPT back on it or does the BIOS locked in this State. For me UEFI is MALEWARE so why can a simple UBUNTU damaged my BIOS and ... Hello I upgraded my BIOS recently (I believe from A04 to A06) because I felt it might be needed to support a CPU upgrade.  Problem is, the new BIOS adds no new features that I can see, and takes 10 seconds longer to boot.  Fastboot is enabled.  This is a problem, since I recently installed an SSD and this new BIOS appears to be doing nothing, and is getting in the way of an otherwise lightning fast boot.
What is the correct procedure for restoring the system to the BIOS which it shipped with?  I think I can remove the battery, but is there not a preferred method? Also, it is remotely possible, given the processor upgrade, that the old BIOS will not boot.  I would prefer not to put in the old processor, reinstall the new BIOS, put in the new processor... Decades ago, a floppy disk would have come to the rescue, I believe Dell has a procedure for installing a new BIOS from a flash drive if a system fails to boot, what is the correct procedure?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

I made a clean installation and downloaded necessary drivers from Lenovo's support site.
It has been a long time since I have had this laptop, so I decided to update the BIOS as well.
The updated BIOS version is B0CNA0WW. I'm uncertain of my previous version, most likely the version that the laptop was shipped with, as this is the first time I updated my BIOS.
Is it possible to revert to previous BIOS version without any further problems?
And if not, how can I get rid of the utterly displeasing BIOS splash in the boot? Or maybe change the splash image?
Mod's Edit: Additional information added to Subject line for clarity of issue.

A:Revert back to previous BIOS or change displeasing BIOS splash screen

I would leave your current BIOS alone.
Maybe another user can help in the BIOS screen change.
Note: Bios is unsigned, you may get a warning message during download.

I am guessing that something quite wrong was done in 2.20 (and it persists into 2.21). There was no such errant behavior with 2.19, as I've confirmed by reinstalling 2.19.  Works perfectly and boots promptly and the BIOS Setup utility works lickity-split with 2.19, just like it always has.  But with the install of 2.20 the behavior changed drastically.
Looking at the README for BIOS 2.20 this definitely seems like the culprit:
[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue where fan might rotated with max speed due to not reading CPU   temperature correctly.- Fixed an issue where system might not boot to OS when attached an external monitor   and its USB3 devices.- Fixed an issue where network boot might happened at reboot after resume from suspend   by Wake On LAN.
At first I thought I had blown the BIOS update, since my screen was simply black for what seemed like 1-2 minutes after displaying the Lenovo logo and "press ENTER to interrupt" message.  I pressed ENTER repeatedly but nothing happened, for a long time.  Eventually, the hard drive activity LED on the P70 started flashing, and seemingly almost 2 minutes later, the machine came to life and boot process continued normally.
Then, once I entered the BIOS, I used the right-arrow key to navigate through the tabs.  No problem until I got to the Security tab and then pressed right-arrow one more time to navigate into the Boot tab... and it hung!  Didn't go ri... Read more
