Inspiron 14z upgrade to Windows 10 - device issues

Q: Inspiron 14z upgrade to Windows 10 - device issues

In the newly deployed GetWindows10 app, there's an option to "Check your PC" - when I choose this option on my Inspiron 14z, I get:
Windows 10 will work on this PC
This PC can be upgraded but there may be some issues.
Devices
These devices aren't fully compatible with Windows 10
AMD Radeon HD 7570M (with a bluetooth icon beside it??)
You'll experience problems with your display
These devices might not work correctly after the upgrade
Bluetooth Server (with the same bluetooth icon)
Intel Corporation
I'm not inclined to upgrade if it's going to result in problems either with my bluetooth OR my display. Any change that Dell will release updated drivers to address these issues? Other options?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I took the free upgrade to win 10 from 8.1. I have a new XPS with Win10 and wanted alignment. This laptop has 8gb mem with 2.2 cpu. Usually I don't usually upgrade but I felt this laptop was compatible. Since my upgrade I have experienced slower function. I'm not that happy about win 10 in general as my XPS had other issues from day one and I had to do a complete OS reinstall. I think I need another reinstall of the XPS because I lost all my One drive connections in file folder and it won't remember log in and pw that I set to remember - little things like that. Others Inspiron 15 issues. The touch pad is awful but I just use a wireless mouse on the right side of the panel. I keep on having wireless network card issues and will drop off forcing me to run trouble shooter or reboot.any comments welcome. I was thinking of rolling back to 8.1.

My trackpad occasionally will just stop working. The buttons become unresponsive as well as the trackpad itself. Only way to temporarily fix it is to reboot. I and many others had this issue on Windows 8.1 but it seemed fixed after updating to the A03 bios. Now, on Windows 10 using the A05 bios, the issue is back. Is anyone else having this problem?

Ever since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10, this SoftThinks Agent Service is taxing my HDD to 100% slowing things down.
This is related to Dell Backup and Recovery software. I can kill this service and that's that but every-time I start up, this happens.
As for sleep mode, I will come back to my laptop and raise the lid, hit the keys, move the mouse, nothing. I hit the power button and nothing. So I hold the power button and then hit it to boot up, so clearly there are issues in relation to sleep mode and something shutting it off. (others have posted the same)
I installed all newest Intel drivers on your site and I read 1 user stated to uninstall Intel Rapid Storage, which I did. Intel Management Engine remains as I am still trying to troubleshoot. Are you testing all these new drivers you are putting out for download? Do I need to go back to Win8.1, your site said my laptop could be upgraded.
Please advise and "do the needful".

same thing here as far as the power issues. you must remove the 2 other intel things that were installed along with the Intel rapid storage
intel security assist
intel management engine something or other (cant remember the exact name)
i still have the intel graphics and chipset drivers installed without any problems. it was just the intel rapid storage stuff that caused all the power , sleep mode problems..

Hi,
I have recently upgraded my Dad's Inspiron 15-5547 laptop by replacing the standard HDD with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD drive.
Having swapped out the drive and installed Windows 10 everything seemed in place, however, the system soon started to have issues.
The power button became unresponsive, some times making it impossible to turn on the system, other times finally doing so after 8+ presses.
This behaviour made the system very frustrating to use.
I removed the SSD and reinstalled the original HDD and the system and power button then work flawlessly again.
Is there any known compatibility issue between the Inspiron 15-5547 and Samsung Evo 850?
Are there any other reasons why installing the SSD would lead to issues like this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate section for this, but I'm working on a friend's Dell inspiron 15-3521 that has been unusable for about a month. The laptop is about 3 years old and came with Windows 8 and he tried to upgrade to Windows 10 when prompted. After the "upgrade", the laptop would boot correctly into Windows 10 about 1 out of 5 attempts and when it did boot correctly, it would ultimately crash without much explanation. He wanted to downgrade all the way to Windows 7(which I have a legitimate copy of) so I booted into a Linux Mint Live distro, formatted the drive, and installed Windows 7. After the installation, Windows 7 booted up fine but was incredibly slow and still basically unusable. Now, after restarting, the computer either restarts at the login screen of Windows 7 or freezes on a black screen after entering login info. Initially I thought maybe the ram was bad and was just running out of memory, but the Linux memtest comes back clean. Now I suspect that it could be a bad hard drive, but it would be great to get more opinions before I continue guessing.

I am trying to prep a computer to give to a friend. Last night, I reformatted it using the recovery discs that came with it. It is a Tosh Satellite A105.

Today, I have been finding and installing updates to the system, trying to prepare it for an upgrade to win7, which is no easy task since I have had to go out and find some of the drivers and service pack 3.

I am using the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and need input on which of these 11 issues really are issues, and which I can skip and just install new once I upgrade.

Adobe issues -- I uninstalled it.

Toshiba Blue Tooth Stack for xp version 4.0 -- I downloaded and installed version 7.0, but have not uninstalled 4.0. It doesn't make sense to my feeble brain why I would have to uninstall 4.0 if I installed 7.0 unless it is because I downloaded the 7.0 instead of upgrading to it?

Here is a list of the rest:
MS .NET Framework 1.1 --I downloaded and installed a later version, so which version do I need to find?

Toshiba ConFigFree -- No clue what this is.

Intel ProSet/Wireless software -- ZeroCfgSvc Application -- No clue

Toshiba Utilities -- I have updated everything available from ms, so is this another one that I have to go find, and if so, what version?

To be uninstalled unless someone suggests otherwise:
Messenger
Realplayer
Realtek HD audio driver
Sonic Record now
Yahoo music engine

Thanks a bunch in advance for any help!

1st, you can't upgrade from XP to Windows 7, you have to do a Clean Install which means boot the DVD and format the drive, so nothing you do to XP will have any effect.

Having said that, you can cheat

See here: Upgrade Install - XP to Windows 7

My recommendation would be to do an image backup of the XP system then do a Clean Install (with format), apply all updates then start restoring your data from the backup. All software will have to be reinstalled, it can't be copied from the backup to Win 7.

A:'No Audio output device is installed' Dell Inspiron 15z Windows 10

You can get the drivers from the Inspiron 15z 5523 html page. Use either the Win 8.1 driver (labelled "WB64A") or one of the Win7 ones. First go into Device Manager and right click on the Realtek High Definition Audio Device to open the context menu, then "uninstall" and check the box to "delete the driver software for this device."
When you re-boot Windows will remove the Realtek driver and install its native audio driver. See if audio works. Then you can install an IDT driver over the native driver without removing it first.
If neither the native nor IDT driver helps, try reverting to your previous operating system. If the audio still does not work then the hardware has probably failed. If it does work in the previous OS, then perform a clean installation of Win10 and see if it works.

I've been working on a friends Dell Inspiron mini 1011. Initially She could not get onto he wireless network.
She had someone else get rid of malware on it. I'm not sure what they did, but there were three devices in
Device Manager- including the wireless card- that were not installed.
One device was marked unknown and is the only one I cannot figure out after looking through Dell's
driver page using servicetag. The device Instance ID is ACPI\CPL0002\2&DABA3FF&0. Looking at its
properties, I see it has a status code 1. Microsoft says "This is very common with universal serial bus (USB) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) 1394 composite devices...." The System Information tool > components > Problem Devices shows nothing.
Google revealed it is most commonly fixed by installing smart battery or battery meter software. No luck with that. It MAY be bluetooth- BT is enabled in BIOS. WIDCOMM software does not detect a BT device.
I'm including setupapi log as an attachment

The AUDIO FADE PROBLEM is an issue with this laptop and I am wondering if it is related to the above.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS and drivers using the Dell Product Support pages.
Every other day I have to reinstall the Realtek Audio Device to get audio from streaming media.
The current Driver Version is 6.0.1.7908 from Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Date 12/08/2016 which is what it defaults to upon reinstall.
I suspect that for whatever reason Dell has not yet come up with a fix. Has it something to do with the fact that although I bought the laptop new, it had been upgraded from Windows 8 to 10? (A fact that I only discovered later)

I have an Inspiron 620 (mid 2011) - on your support site it indicates:
Dell has not confirmed that this product can upgrade to Windows 10. Some drivers, firmware, applications, and connected devices may not work as you would expect.
For systems that fall into this category, does this mean that Dell will never confirm that this system can upgrade to Windows 10, or just that you haven't had a chance to test this particular model, but you eventually will?

A:Inspiron 620 Windows 10 upgrade

I have the Inspiron 620 and tried the windows 10 update. All seemed ok although the video playback was strange, I assumed codecs would need updating. The next start up came with no sound, I tried updating drivers with no luck, I then tried the front headphone jack and surprise, the sound was fine. After a little more playing around the sound came back on (not sure why) .The next day no sound again and very grainy video, after a couple of unproductive hours I restored the machine back to windows seven. This did not come without problems though, the factory installed OS image has been removed and all system scheduled tasks have been corrupted. It has taken a few days to get the machine running ok but restoring the system tasks is complex and the best way to fix this and I assume the recovery image will be a full restore using the system back up discs I made when the machine was new. I have tried asking Dell the question but they do not seem interested in the many many Inspiron users across the world.

If you have a retail license, you may be able to go to the Activation page and change the License Key there.
The way you normally upgrade to pro is to get an upgrade from Microsoft and it installs over the current Home version.  But since you have the license you could try changing it.
This may effect any recovery options you have  available since the Dell recovery is for the home version.

After I upgraded to Windows 10 (from Windows 8.1) on the Inspiron 15 with touch screen, I  ran into an issue with the Startech's USB31000S USB/Ethernet device.  It just stopped working.  I played around with trying to reload the driver.
I contacted the Startech support and while chatting with them, I had the idea to disable and re-load the usb3.0 package.
When the guy suggested it was a a hardware issue, I said goodbye and then went to device manager, removed the device, re-booted the computer, reloaded the device and re-enabled it.  And it worked.  Since then, it's happened again, when I plug the device in before the computer's booted up.
There may be a bug in the driver.
But this is a possible fix.

Hi,
I just finished upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit from Vista 32-bit (which came with my machine) on my Inspiron 1420, by using the custom installation from a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade disc.  I was kind of intimidated about necessity of 64-bit driver since there is no 64-bit support option on Dell's website.  So having gone through it successfully now, I thought I would share how I did it for those who may be thinking about the upgrade.
Chipset, Audio and 3945abg Wireless:
Although Dell does not list support for 64-bit drivers for the Inspiron 1420 on its driver homepage, there are three drivers on that page that do support both Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit.  These drivers are for the Intel Chipset, Sigmatel Audio and the Intel 3945abg wireless card.  Note that the Inspiron 1420 booted fine for the first time after the Win7 OS was installed, and the wireless card and audio were functioning with the Win7 native drivers.  So the Dell drivers are not absolutely necessary.  However, I decided to install the Dell chipset and wireless drivers from the 1420 driver page in case they would be more efficient.
Touchpad and Quickset:
Now, Dell's 1420 driver page does not have 64-bit drivers that may be used for the touchpad, quickset functions (external audio buttons) or video card.  After booting Win7, I found that my touchpad lacked the scroll features and only the mute button for quickset worked.  However, no quickset graphic... Even the least expensive Windows 7 upgrade will set you back upward of $100 -- more than the entire system is currently worth (they seem to be selling between $50-100 on EBay as used, working systems).
Stay with it as is for as long as it stays alive -- it's not worth upgrading the OS, and even Vista has some support life left in it.

Would I face any issues for resetting/restoring windows after installing windows 10 on the new SSD?

The only way I got mine and a neighbors 3520 going again was to remove the CMOS battery, which resets it enough to let you in the BIOS via the "F2" key at the now visible -Dell start-up screen- and then you can set the BIOS to reload the default values and restart.  Now you should be able to get in to your previous windows OS or Win10 (depending on how far the Win10 Upgrade got before it died) -in my case back to Win7 and Win8.1 for my neighbors.  The hard part is getting to the CMOS battery... take the laptop apart (all the way) AC/battery removed, remove keyboard (4 small push in  tabs along top of keyboard) then remove 3 cables (all marked with blue color/tabs) 1.) flip brown cable connector clasp to the right to remove keyboard cable, 2.) lift brown connector to remove power cable (upper left) and 3.)  lift brown connector to remove track pad cable.  Next remove 2 screws from the hole now open from where the keyboard was removed (the only 2 screws down brown plastic holes, middle left and upper middle) Now flip over laptop and remove all screws from bottom and then flip back upright and separate top of case from bottom, you have to gently pry apart at several points (guitar pick is a great tool or small screw driver) around case until top pops off, set aside.  The CMOS battery is a round flat cr2... Have tried 9 times to upgrade and all have ended in failure. I have tried all the suggested fixes on the internet and nothing works. When I called Dell customer support I was advised to call "Microsoft" for support. They gave me a number. When I called it was a 3 rd party company that wanted to sell me a dix for $399. SHAME ON YOU DELL!!!! Your customer support is terrible.
Anyone who has a suggestion on getting Windows 10 up and running would be greatly appreciated.

How to Repair Corrupted Windows System Files with the SFC and DISM Commands
1. Run sfc /scannow
Will have 3 outcome as below :
1. Windows integrity cannot find any violation : means OS is stable
2. Found error but able to fix : stable but no major file and registry impacted, but may have issue soon
3. Found error but not able to fix : indicate os having issue.
2. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to restore Image health, as the command will capture update from microsoft server.
If cannot try to restore, repair boot mbr and last option only do clean installation.

Dear Dell,
Yesterday my laptop Inspiron 14- 5459 was automatically updated with Windows 10- creators update. After successful updating and restart, I was working for some time on the laptop.  Then I tried restarting the laptop. The laptop didn't restart properly. It kept on showing the black screen post dell logo display. I tried repairing the windows using the windows 10 Home edition 64 bit recovery medium and even after installing it, no boot device message is displayed. Previously before repairing the window, when epsa diagnosis was run, no hard ware issue were found.
Can you please let me know how resolve this. My service tag has technical support in warranty. Can someone call. And clarify.
Thanks in advance.

I bought an Inspiron 5500 from QVC in May It's the higher end one with AMD Radeon R5 with 4GB of dedicated video memory, Intel Core I7 and 16GB of RAM.  I setup Windows Hello with the Intel RealSense webcam.  When I reboot it it will usually work once but not lately but especially waking it from sleep I see the "Getting Ready" prompt with the symbol that indicates it's supposedly getting ready to turn on the camera but I've been getting the message "Camera not available" and to use my alternate login method in my case 4 digit PIN.  Once or twice I would get "Could not turn on the camera"  I would say it's the camera but why does it work on a restart?  I have the latest BIOS and the Dell Update utility automatically installs prompts for restarts when necessary.  Anyone else have this?

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can give me some direction on this particular issue as it's been causing some grief for a while now. The laptop Inspiron 5759 has just come out of warranty ufortunately and I should have logged a ticket but the issue went away for a while.
Basically what's happening is occassionally when the laptop turns on it is horrendously slow, it can last for hours or even in a couple of instances a few days. It will occassionally go back to it's normal speed but it's unusable for that time.
Looking at the task manager the HDD is stuck on 100% throughout all this though the rest of the resources don't go about 60%~ish. Initially I thought it was Windows updates so I've put the connection to metered to stop it downloading them. This helped for a while but then the issue persisted again. It feels to me that the hard drive is the bottleneck but there doesn't appear to be any reasonable explanation why a year old laptop of higher spec should be running slower than a computer over twice it's age with a lower specification. I've done some research that suggested updating the intel storage controller driver and the bios should help. I've done this as well which again helped for a while but the issue has come back again recently and I'm at a loss as to what else to try. Just to add, I have run antivirus and antimalware scans, and reinstalled the laptop just to make sure there wasn't anything else.
Thanks in advance!

Over the last few days, since I started using my Inspiron 3520 with Windows 10 on it after a hardware issue that arose a while back from my own doing, I barely did anything on the laptop before it started acting all crazy and all. I did have to do a hard Shutdown quite a few times when it seemed to freeze up on a black screen or at other times before this all started, but I'm assuming that had nothing to do with it... though it couldn't have helped.
I've tried multiple times to do a System Restore, only to keep coming up with an error code 0x80070005, because of some anti-virus program installed/currently running, when I have more than one installed (which I know shouldn't be done, but dunno which work or not at any given time). And now, I can't even do one to before this all started, as I've repeatedly kept trying to do while disabling certain services in Windows Task Manager. Because I tried uninstalling some Windows C++ Redistributable programs from other people who've had the same problem, where with some programs or whatever, I keep getting a "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." message. And after I attempted installing the files I downloaded to fix this problem, I got the SAME message as I do for the programs that refuse to run.
So did I do/see something wrong in what I needed to do? As at this point, I feel like my only option is to reset my PC to its default settings (but keepi... Read more

Most of the issues you are experiencing are likely cause because of an "Upgrade Install". I would clean install Windows 10 RS1 on the system:

I know this is a little outdated, but need all the drivers needed and order to install with a fresh cd install of windows 7 sp1

I found the info here years ago and can no longer find it with listed drivers for the upgrade.

I installed windows 7 sp1 and the laptop does not work well, very slow. Did one at a time device driver and tried to update drivers, not any better.

I will do another clean install if I can get the needed info.

Thanks for your help

Greetings.  I am an experienced PC user and have built and upgraded many PC's.  I am going through and upgrading all of my remaining various legacy systems that I can to Windows 10 with limited issues.
I KNOW the Inspiron 1520 is not tested by Dell for Windows 10 compatibility.  Certainly from a hardware power standpoint (T2330 Dual Core Pentium 1.6, 4GB of memory, discrete NVIDIA GeForce 8400M) it passes the Windows 10 minimum.  I have done extensive online searches and a few have reported success while others have had issues.
I am currently running Windows 7 SP1 32bit which I installed clean when first received.
Anyway, here is my question.  I may decide that it is not worth the hassle to try to get this upgraded to Windows 10 in my usual planned fashion.  However, other people use this on occasion and I suspect that eventually the magic little upgrade icon will show up.
I would think that if a laptop has the specs. to pass the Windows 10 OS test for upgradability and will get the Windows 10 upgrade icon there should be a plan as to how to handle.
Or perhaps there are more people than I found that upgraded successfully. My usual method will not work....upgrade most recent drivers pre-windows 10 upgrade, then after upgrade update all to most recent windows 10 drivers.  The most recent drivers on the Dell site are Vista.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks.

When I tried upgrading from windows 7 to 10 on my Inspiron N5050 the screen had the windows 10 logo and spinning dots below it before going black. I had to hard restart my laptop. I contacted dell support  who said windows 10 was not compatable with my computer. They said I needed to restore my OS back to windows 7. When I start my computer I  can enter the bootup menu briefly before it automatically goes the windows 10 logo with the spinning dots. It stays like this for about a minute before going to the black screen. Any help with restoring to windows 7 from this point?

My computer is a dell inspiron 14z.

So my wifi was working ok before I upgraded to Windows 8 but afterwards seemed to not even realize it had wifi capabilities. I looked at the Wireless network adapter thing in the device manager and it had a little error icon next to it.

Here's some pictures of the error and device manager that might help maybe.

I've tried updating the driver but it just says that its all good and up to date.

Dell wanted me to pay 120$ for a single customer service session.

I'd be so happy if you guys could fix this.

you guys are awesome thanks

120$? to fix a driver issue? That is extortion in my eyes lol.

Anyway I had a quick look on the dell support site and found there are 3 different models for Dell Inspiron 14z Could you tell me which one it is? Also try navigating to the driver downloads page and downloading the wireless network drivers for your model and installing them. Pic Attached

Had a look at the drivers on each of the models and they only seem to support 64bit Versions of Windows 7 & 8, Do you know if you have 32bit or 64bit edition of windows 8? If you have 32bit then the drivers for the hardware probably wont work.

If you don't you can check it by following this easy guide (I would walk you through it but I havent used windows 8 yet) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-8-64-bit-32-bit.htm

I purchased this laptop in 2006. It was running on WIndows 7 Ultimate, and, before gifting it to a friend I thought I'd try applying the WIndows 10 upgrade.
I was a little surprised, but the upgrade worked with no issues. The video driver is the generic WIndows driver, and display function is fine. All functions are working; wireless, touchpad, sound, Office 2013 apps, browsers (chrome, firefox), antivirus, etc. There are no resource-intensive apps loaded; not used for gaming; but for Internet access, basic office apps, etc. it's working well.
Totally subjective, but seems a little faster than on Windows 7.

The legacy AGP driver for the Radeon 9XXX card from vista works fine if you have that option.

I have a Dell Inspiron n4110, Core i3 processor, 4 GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I mostly use my laptop to record podcasts, and I specifically need access to recording from the stereo mixer on the sound card.

I'm having trouble reinstalling Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 11 3162.  I am able to boot to the USB drive that contains the installer and go through the steps to install up to the point of choosing the destination partition.  I then run into this error:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk.  Ensure that the disks's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I've tried a number of fixes to get around it including:

Going into the BIOS and changing SATA Operation, but the only option is AHCI.
Changing the disk from GPT to MBR and vice-versa.
Flashing the BIOS to the newest version.

All with no success.  If anyone has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi all, I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop with core i3, x64 based processor and Intel HD 3000 Graphics driver (Sandy bridge). I had been using Windows 7 for 6 years and I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 when I found that MS released a driver update that supports my old graphics card to work on Win 10 ... However after the upgrade I found my display driver listed as "Windows Basic Display Adaptor" and my monitor as "Generic PnP Monitor", so I ran Windows update which found a driver update for Intel graphics card and then the screen went blank. I booted into safe mode and found out the display listed as "Intel HD 3000 Graphics" correctly however the monitor has been an unrecognized generic pnp with exclamation mark next to it and windows would not let a driver update to it. I tried to downgrade to Windows 8.1 however the same problem reoccured exactly in the same steps. How can I work around this and get my OS to recognize my laptop monitor. And will it be compatible with Win 10 or 8.1 or should I rollback to Win 7?? Is this a BIOS firmware problem? And if so what is the latest OS version that my dell laptop can support?? Thanks in advance

My windows 10 Dell 7559 laptop is 2 months old. I was browsing the internet and suddenly got a Driver State Failure BSOD. Now every time I login to my computer I will either get a black screen that never goes away, or the desktop will display but no programs such as sound, internet, etc will run. I can't even start task manager or control panel, only navigate files and such.I will also get a bunch of application errors for dozens of things like rundll32, skype, task manager, control panel, sound, etc stating: "The application was unable to start correctly. Click ok to close the application."The only way to get programs like control panel and settings to work is to boot the laptop up into safe mode. When I look in device manager I find "generic pnp monitor" and "intel dual band wireless-ac 3165" have yellow warning signs beside them. I've tried pressing uninstall next to them, but that didn't seem to do anything after a restart. I've also set the power settings to maximum, as I read that was a common fix for this issue. I also cannot get internet to work either in normal mode or safe mode with networking, I assume because of the Wireless-AC 3165 error.Does anyone know how to fix this? I should also mention I ran and sfc /scannow and that brought back no problem...
