I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I have an acer aspire one 725 and I'm having some battery issues. The laptop will power up and run fine without a battery inserted, but when you insert one it immediately shuts down. I have tried with 2 brand new acer branded batteries

A:Laptop powers when plugged, but shuts down when battery

welcome to the forum....

its been seen at ours with several makes and as the batteries are new and branded, this narrows down the possibilities to points and the new battery short circuiting the laptop.

power down the machine, unplug the power supply. power the machine back on (battery). once its fully up and running plug the power supply back in....this should reset the power plan software.

now unplug the power supply and see if the machine stays on, which would be and sorted. if when you try to power the laptop back on and it doesn't light up.. then it is either physical damaged, such as a connector or a trigger within the system os.

Hi, my Yoga 720 decided that it should shut down when in battery mode. According to the windows system logs Kernel-power had a critical error. I tried to update BIOS to the latest version, but that failed as during the installation it stated that the battery is missing. Anyone have any tips, or should I contact the store where I bought it? RegardsAnders

Recently my Lenovo Yoga 720 15-IKB has started shutting down after a few minutes when on battery. It's fine when I use it plugged in. But once I unplug it and it's using battery (even when fully charged), it will consistently turn off after a few minutes. Nothing has changed that I know of since this started happening. It just seemed to start doing it one day. It hasn't been dropped or anything, it hasn't even left the house. I read around a bit and saw the recommendation to update the BIOS. So I've attempted to update the BIOS via the official Lenovo support page but run into an issue and it can't complete. It has me download 4mcn33ww.exe and kicks off Insyde H20FFT (Flash Firmware Tool). The process appears to run as expected until it turns off the laptop to restart and once it boots back up with the screen black, a red message states "Warning: No Battery Connected, This process requires AC power and a charged battery to avoid accidental power-off during an update". I attached a photo of what I see. I, of course, have the laptop plugged in during this process so I'm not sure why it says that. And prior to starting the BIOS update, Windows states the laptop is, in fact, charging/plugged in.  At this point I'm stuck. The only potential fix I've found online is to update the BIOS, but I can't update the BIOS due to the AC power error it seems. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'll try and explain this one best i can. User came to me with their Yoga 15 with an issue where it randomly shuts down on battery power, as in completely switches off.  It sometimes displays a message to say the battery cannot be detected, other times just shuts down. The conclusion I've found is that when the bottom panel is off the machine the battery is completely detected in Windows, and the Lenovo Settings app. It runs fine, never cuts off even with lots of IE instances open.As soon as I put the bottom panel back on the battery appears to be disconnected in Windows, and it also shows it not charging. Intermittently it also states the battery power is low or not detected when booting up. Found that there's a battery / system reset button on the underside that may be the cause of the issue. Pressing this button with the underside of the Laptop off resets the machine entirely, I believe it's the battery reset button incase the machine ever gets stuck at any point (as by rights it's a non-removable battery and there's a small pin hole on the case over this button). Works flawlessly without the bottom case in place, as soon as I re-connect it when the unit is on Battery power I loose the battery status in the Lenovo Settings app. The machine will then randomly shut down. Any thoughts on this one, it's the strangest thing. Many thanks all.

A:Lenovo Yoga 15 - shuts down on battery

When you put the panel back, is it touching/blocking any wires?
Have you tried to do a factory reset? If everything works fine then, try updating drivers one by one to see if it comes back.

Hello there,

I have an one year-old ASUS K53S Laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits, 6GB Ram and 500HDD.

At the beginning, my battery lasted >3 hours in Balanced power mode (which is the one I alway use) and now due to regular use it last about 2 hours.

Everything normal until here. About 2 months ago, i started playing this game in full screen with the battery on and it last about 30-40 minutes until it reached the low battery warning (11% left). I would then plug the power on and resume the game, charging the battery as well.

After a few weeks, the warning stopped appearing in the desktop and the computer automatically hibernated (5% left) with the game still on. So i plugged the ac power on and resumed the game right away.

This kept happening from that moment on: every time i played the game it would reach 5% battery left and hibernate for itself, whereas it should appear the low battery warning at 11% left where I would plug in the ac power and charge the battery without going into hibernation.

On top of that, my sister kept stealing my ac charger for charging her Toshiba Satellite as she often forgets her own charger at her workplace!

Now, at the present day, when the battery reaches about 15-20% left, the laptop power off unexpectedly, as if I had pull the battery off of the laptop.

It must be from all those time it would reach 5% left, with the game still on, that "tired" the battery and now it won't even last further than 20% left...

It might ... Read more

Not good news - your PSU went bang and took things with it.
Try disconnecting all IDE/SATA drives and take any daughterboards like modems and graphics out. Reboot. One beep is good; power off and now put the boards back (graphics first) and reboot. Keep going until you find out the item with a short in it.
NO beeps is bad and means a fried board. Sorry.

So I got a custom build computer with a ASUS P4S800-MX SE motherboard. It has worked well for some 7 months now, but recently it will not start. When I would press the power button at the front of the casing, it would make a beep as it has normally done, but then it will immediately power down. It doesn't even gives time to the monitor to show something. The light inside the motherboard is lit, I don't smell nothing burnt, the CPU fan turns on when the system gets the few seconds of power. When I unplug the power cord and plug it again, the computer will power up without me having to press the button, it will beep then power down. It would stay off until I unplug and plug again.

I have checked ASUS support website but nothing. I am thinking that it might be power button at the front having something broken, but I haven't checked it. Its really hard to open the front case. Where can I start to troubleshoot?

HP/Compaq NX5000 laptop with known-good power supply and known-good battery. I bought it from a guy who was truthful about its condition for $35. That's about all the history I know on this.

It will power up for about one second each time the switch is pressed. The processor fan works well and spins freely and at normal speed; but, this power-up is too short to get any light onto the screen.

Not knowing any more than I do about laptop troubleshooting and repair, I don't know how to start a diagnosis. If it were a desktop, I would first check the power supply; but, this power supply is known to be good as it runs other systems just fine..

Any suggestions?

Dell Inspiron 1150 Laptop with Pentium 4, Socket 478 processor and 768 Megs of RAM.

I took this laptop apart many days back to resolder the power connector to the main board. That went successfully and I used it for about a week or two and I noticed today that there was no sound. I figured (rightly) that I had failed to plug the speakers back to the main board so I went back in tonight and connected them.

Now, after getting it back together, it powers on for about 15 seconds and then shuts down--no display, no beeps, nothing. I've taken it apart again two more times looking for something disconnected; but, I can't see anything amiss.

The battery and power supply are both good and the battery is fully charged (battery is new). I've removed the battery and tried wall current only, tried battery only, removed the hard disk, tried one memory stick at a time with no change.

I observed proper precautions against static discharge at all times.

Anyone have any ideas?

I know that the power supply works because its the same one I used in my previous computer. I also doubt that there is anything wrong with the CPU or Motherboard as they were both bought brand new in the boxes. I even tested to see if the board was shotring, but that doesn't seem to be the case either. Any help is appreciated.

I am using a Compaq Presario 2700T, 384 mb ram, 933 hz processor, XP Home Edition, service pack 1.

The computer simply shuts down randomly. I believe it may be due to something overheating. I hear what sounds like a fan running before it happens. Sometimes the fan seems to run a very long time, never shuts off. There is a soft sounding fan and then at times there is a louder fan that also seems to be running. Then suddenly, the power is off. No warning, no hesitation. Just off.

Sound familiar to anyone??

I have an Inspiron 1745 and as of today it will not power on completely. When you push the power button the light on the button will come on and the computer will sound like its going to start then immediately shuts off within a second. The ac adapter works fine battery is fine. I took the backplate off and removed the battery and pressed power button for 60 seconds and it still does the same thing. I am thinking based on some other similar posts that the computer is "stuck" in sleep mode or something like it thinks that the lid is closed when its not. I tried pressing the power button while pressing FN and it does the same exact thing. I did try the BIST test and that works (no abnormalities that I can see) and when it goes to restart it immediately shuts off. I do have an old external monitor but there is no place to plug it in because it does not have an HDMI cable and this computer has no ports besides usb and hdmi. I am not tech savvy enough to figure this one out on my own.

Hello,

I recently assembled my first computer and went to turn it on. However, it would power on briefly, maybe 1-2 seconds, and then shut off. I tried taking things out leaving only the necessary but I have not managed to get it to POST. The only time that the computer stays on (defined by all the fans spinning and the sound of the harddrive) is when i unplug my cpu power. Does this mean that the CPU is dead? or is it simply overheating and shutting off before problems arise. Any help is very appreciated.

It is probably the power supply

The power supply is probably going bad. You may have over loaded it, or it might have recieved a shock of some kind (power surge maybe?), or it is just not as young as it used to be.

What ever you do DO NOT use the 230 setting on the power supply unless you live in Europe.

do you have a surge protector? if you don`t you should get one. If you do it may need to be replaced. :approve:

If it`s not that then check the processor. you may have done something when you were cleaning the heat sink.

A:Toshiba laptop powers up briefly and shuts down

Hello Koofah. Welcome to the forum.

A dead or dying battery will cause this type of problem, and it will cause the problem even when the power supply is plugged in. So normally I would suggest replacing the battery.

What disturbs me is that the laptop does not run on the power supply with the battery removed (as I'm sure you already know). That raises the possibility that there is a defect in the power switching circuitry on the motherboard, and much more difficult problem to diagnose and fix.

There is a possibility that the power supply went bad and took the battery with it, rendering both devices defective at the same time. But that is a bit of a stretch.
Are you still using the original OEM power supply and battery that came with the laptop? How old are they?

It would be more likely if the PS & battery were aftermarket replacements.

I'm in the process of moving some parts from my current system to another computer. I removed a DVD drive and a hard drive from my computer, and after pushing the 'on' button, the computer powers on for a few seconds and then shuts off. I don't understand what could possibly be causing the problem. I have two hard drives and the hard drive I was removing wasn't even my primary hard drive. I've also used the computer in the past without that hard drive, so I know that can't be the problem. I think the lack of disk drive is what's causing the problem.

Upon removing the DVD drive, I also removed the SATA cable from it that was connected directly to the motherboard. Could the removal of that cable be causing the problem? Also, on second thought, the hard drive I removed was connected to a PCI Express SATA card with a SATA cable which is still in the computer. Could the unused SATA card sitting in the computer be causing the problem?

A:Computer powers on and shuts off after removing DVD Drive

Thanks for all the help you guys have given me. -.-

I just removed the SATA card and powered it on and the same thing still happens. I don't understand how this is happening, all I removed was the DVD drive and my secondary hard drive. It should still be working.

I also tried some 'voodoo' and plugged the SATA cables back in, letting them hang without connecting to anything. Nothing happened. Could the power supply have been damaged while I was moving the parts out?

Hello,Few weeks ago I had power supply outage, since then the laptop died. I decided to gamble and bought new motherboard. They say to take off the CMOS battery but for some reason, few hours of looking at the laptop parts and searching the net, I couldn?t find the CMOS location.Anyone have any idea on what could happen and what can be done apart from what I?ve already tried? Cheers

Here's the deal:

I've had this computer for about 5 years, and never had a problem like this before. (As a side note, I replaced the CRT monitor that came with the PC with a new LCD one on January 2nd.) On February 3rd, my PC just shuts down out of the blue. Not thinking of this as a big deal, I tried turning it back on. No matter how many times I turned off the power supply, and pressed the power on button on my PC, it wouldn't run like it usually does.

The following are the different ways this faulty computer reacts to me trying to turn it on:

1) The fans run, and everything seems to power up fine for about 4 to 5 seconds... then it randomly shuts down. I don't even hear the first beep.

2) It turns onto the BIOS screen
a) After exiting BIOS, my computer turns on and everything runs like it should.
b) Before even getting a chance to exit BIOS, the PC shuts down... again.

3) Everything runs smoothly like it did before, and my PC only shuts down when I want it to - no problems.

4) Everything runs smoothly for 5 - 10 minutes. Random shut down once again.

5) When I turn on my power supply, my PC sometimes turns on by itself. How odd.

6) Nothing runs. No fans, no nothing.

Is my motherboard fried? Is my LCD screen using too much power? Is it just time to get a new computer? I need help! I think I'm going to go mad with rage.

Strangest thing.. our Yoga 500-14IBD just stopped booting out of the blue. Yesterday it worked fine, this morning it would not boot anymore. It powers up, but it stays black. I can't find any similar problems unfortunately. When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up, the keyboard backlight lights up and the HDD and cooling fan start spinning. The display stays black and does not illuminate. After +/- 3 seconds, the keyboard backlight is dimmed off, while the HDD and fan are on. That's it. It stays in this state for minutes on end. It almost sounds like it actually boots, but just no display. When I press and hold the power button, it gives a long beep (+/-3 seconds), and then powers down. This happened out of the blue, no warnings were given. I can't seem to get it to boot again. What I already tried:- Reset button (10 and 30 seconds). After pressing it for 3 seconds, the system powers up with the same behaviour. Nothing happens when I hold it longer, nor when I press it when the system is powered up.- Disconnected the battery. Also tried to boot on only the adapter, with the battery disconnected.- Disconnected the battery and CMOS battery- Reseated the DIMM and LCD connector The beep indicates that the BIOS is fine, and by the sound of the HDD and fan I would say it actually boots into Windows 10. We have several Lenovo B50's which we are noticing are powering themsleves off  randomly, the laptop then refuses to turn on dispite the power cable being plugged in and gives a red/orange flashing light. We know that this is due to the power supply not being connected in time and the battery running down too low for the laptop to function . The light continues to flas even if the power supply is plugged back in after shutdown. and the laptop will not restart until the light turns to a solid state. However we are noticing that the laptop only seams to be lasting about 2 hours in total with normal used (tested with a youtube video being played). I have also read articules that say that the battery normal starts to go into sleep mode at around 14% which we think maybe desciving staff. Has anyone had the same exsperiances with this? we are running Windows 10 and have already changed all the power settings to never sleep etc.

My X230 powers down when I try to operate it with a battery connected.  I've tried replacing the battery, but it continues to power down even with the replacement.  I tried changing the power management settings to not shut down while plugged in if the battery gets critically low, but that didn't fix the problem either.  It doesn't shut down when I run it on just AC power without a battery plugged in.  This would be fine, but I need to run a BIOS update to fix a different issue I'm having, and I can't do that until I have a full battery connected that isn't going to cause it to shut down during the update.

This started a few day ago and so far as per now i charge it almost every after 2hours but with 45% still remaining on battery.

A:My dell latitude battery shuts down at 45% of battery power remaining and on plugging it into ac, it starts from that same % so am not sure of what is happening to it.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Kindly boot the system into BIOS and check the battery health and Ac Adapter.
Also private message the service tag and email address.
Thanks

I have a Lenovo G50-45 laptop (AMD) which is around three years old. I used it yesterday evening and shut it down. Today when I turned it on the following happened:The battery was not charging.I tried charging with another Lenovo charger of the same spec but the battery was still not charging. The battery ran out of charge and the system shut downI pulled out the battery and tried all the useless charge-flushing things but nothing worked, as always. The system powers on and works as usual with the battery pulled out and connected to AC mains. The system does not work with the battery put in and connected to AC mains or not. When I press the power button With the battery in, the LED blinks orange three times.Could anyone throw some light on what the issue might be? Should I replace the battery?Thanksvinod

Level 77 BIOS is on your support page.https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre-m-series-desktops/t... You may need a new RTC/Cmos battery. Buy a 2032 coin battery

My laptop is 2 years old and within the last 2 months, low battery notifications have stopped popping up, and the laptop shuts down without warning. Within the last week it has been shutting off after 10-20 minutes after I take the power chord out, and the battery never goes above 98% juice.  There's no error messages, and when I looked at the power options, it was set to turn off on 7%, as it has been since I bought it. I haven't updated anything on the laptop since then (it's a laptop purely for Word documents but occasionally I used it for streaming TV when my TV broke) and nothing else out of the ordinary has been happening to it.  I'm incredibly bad at figuring this sort of stuff out by myself, and Googlling it only gave me more confusion because it seems there could be a number of things wrong.  No troubleshooting seems to have helped or given an adequate reason for it, so I'm at a loss at the moment.

Hi: I bought Yoga C930 on Jan 2019. It showed 12 hours maximum when I first open it. I updated battery firmware last night. After updated, the battery 90% showed 3 hours remaining. What happens with a new firmware? Regards,Dhatchai

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

I am struggling with this for a while now. In Hungary we basically have no Lenovo support. My Yoga 2 is considered old but still a very-very good laptop. The Energy Manager complains that the battery is old and I can see it in its performance as well unfortunately. I tried several sellers on Ebay but I keep getting some crappy quality, usually old, refurbished like (but it does not work at all) batteries. I want a real ORIGINAL Lenovo battery that is BRAND NEW (not manufactured in 2014), that is a real stuff, not just a sticker on the outside, crap in the inside. Could you please help me?
