Calling all Video Editors and Photoshop Pros

Q: Calling all Video Editors and Photoshop Pros

On which drive do I place my scratch disk?

I've got a 90GB SSD and a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3R HDD.

The plan is to place the OS and Apps on the SSD and data on the HDD

I have 16GB RAM and could create 12GB Ramdisk for scratch if that would help

The CAD, Sketchup, Photoshop and Illustrator files are not that big...mostly under 100MB. I've captured raw MPEG4 AVC/H.264 footage but have yet to do any editing...but just family stuff which I'm looking forward to.

Should I leave the SSD for just OS/Apps and partition 200GB on the outer edge of the 1TB HDD for scratch and the rest for data?

What is your recommendation? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Calling all Video Editors and Photoshop Pros

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Calling all Video Editors and Photoshop Pros

I think a RAM disk would be a good solution for scratch, given that you clearly have enough RAM. I would not make it as big as 12 GB, but maybe 8 GB, which would still suffice given the size of your files. I think this would really be faster than any scratch on the regular HDD.

As for the SSD, their life-span is limited by the number of read-write operations, so not only I would not place the scratch there, I would also move the Windows temporary files and possibly "C:\Users" folder away from it to the HDD. Some people also move the pagefile either to a RAMdisk or to the HDD, there is a tutorial about it here on the forums.

Let me start out by saying that, I didn't get the cyberlink video editor with my pc. I was wondering if anyone knows of some good free 64bit video editing software apps for Windows 10. I wanted to use Lightworks but it only goes up to Win8.1. I have tried Gopro Studio on my previous more powerful computer and it crashed several times, so I'm a little dubious to try it again to say the least. Any suggestion would be great, I haven't been having much luck with computers recently.

No clue if you can help with this but any pointers would help. So I'll start off by saying that I do YouTube videos for gaming, and I've used both VideoPad Video Editor (2.41) and Sony Vegas Pro 12 (build 3xx) for editing and rendering. The first problem I thought was a coincidence. I was downloading a music file from Chrome (which was open to YouTube) with VideoPad in the background, simply idling, when the PC just hard shutdown on its own. (Only had VideoPad, Chrome, and a folder window open) Me thinking it was a coincidence, I turned it back on and went back to doing the stuff from before. The problem only arose again last night when I decided to do a test render with Vegas 12. Only a four minute clip, I told it to render and walked out of the room. When I came back, the PC's power was off. Turned it on again, told Vegas 12 to render again, and the same thing happened, power failing at less than 10% complete. The thing that really makes me scratch my head is that all the diagnostic tools I knew how to use, including reliability history and event viewer, tells me nothing useful. The only event logged is that the previous shutdown was unexpected. No technical details were given. There is no BSOD, it just simply loses power. I have a feeling that this is related to my PSU.

A:Complete power failure when using video editors...?

Not really my area but the freeware HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information, Analysis and Monitoring Tools will allow you to monitor your PSU voltages and if there is a glitch just before the shutdown or when working in Vegas pro - if so we can move your thread to a hardware section for better help

I would really appreciate it if someone could write a Description/Pros/Cons list on all of the most popular video compression types or post a link to a website with this information.

Right now the best seems to be h.264 but I really don't know. Most videos I have are xvid, although I see people switching to h.264. The xvid files have much larger filesize to have the same quality as the h.264. h.264 is MPG and xvid is AVI. So whats the difference between the format and the codec?

I'm just trying to clear all things up and trying to find the best video compression to use. h.264 (small) seems to be the best just because it works on my iPod without having to re-encode.
I'd still like a lil article tho. (teehee i'm sure this ain't the first time this question's been asked >.< )

I am an expat working in an office-type situation in sub-Saharan Africa, where internet access has always been limited at best. Broadband is not available in this remote country, and isn't likely to come here anytime soon. But a couple years ago, unlimited data over 3G internet finally became available, which has been a real help to us in many ways. However, it is slow - around 500 Kbps, if the cell towers are working properly - and not too reliable.

In spite of these limitations, our coworkers at the USA headquarters of our society have been trying to get internet video conferencing going, but we have had mixed results, mainly due to the slow connection. We have been trying to find out whether there is video calling software available that our slow internet could handle.

We've tried VSee, which is supposed to be good for low bandwidth situations, but it still seems to need a bit more bandwidth than we can give. Google Hangouts isn't really any better, and Skype is out of the question. I've had some success with FaceTime when calling home to my parents, but most of my coworkers don't have Apple devices.

Can anyone suggest other video-conferencing software that might work over very low bandwidth? It would need to work on Linux and/or Windows.

However, whenever I try to uninstall them I am greeted with a popup box that tells me the package may have a problem, and that the error code is 2738.

it sorta depends mostly on what type of editing but i would suggest going with a video card as well. that way you won't come unstuck... look for an ATI 9600/9800 at least... Nvidia has some good ones too, go with at least a fx5700..

you should also post the specs of the motherboard, is it PCI-Express or AGP 8x?

Hey all, just looking for critiques and suggestions on my build. I'll be using the computer for heavy photo editing (Adobe CS5), video editing, HD video playback, and some graphic intensive gaming (BF3, RAGE, mostly FPS). I want to focus the costs towards CPU, GPU, and RAM and not worry so much about HDDs, CD/DVD drives, network cards, aesthetics, sound, etc. I do not overclock, so I won't be needing tons of cooling. I'm open to suggestions for anything, especially if it lowers the price.

Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Case

Mobo: ASUS P8P67 LE (REV 3.0) ATX Intel

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 95W

GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6950

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800)

PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W

HDD: HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.D 1TB 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s

CPU Heatsink: ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

CD/DVD: LG DVD Burner SATA

WIFI: EDIMAX EW-7811Un USB 2.0 Wireless nano Adapter

Total price: $1054 after rebates

A:Photoshop/HD video/photo editing build

Very decent setup indeed. However, I would get the Corsair TX 750 instead to keep the option of adding a second 6950 in the near future.

Instead of the Antec 300, take a look at the BitFenix Shinobi. Wonderful case at a $60 price point.

Hi everyone,
Having a little trouble with stop motion video camera capture. The photoshop 7 guide book tells you how to do it-- import> wia support etc. That's working ok. My question is how do I delete the files I've captured once I've finished with them? Everytime I start the program the files are still there in the little preview window. I'm working on an animation so I have *hundreds* of images to capture and once I've saved them, it's ridiculous to have to scroll through everything I've ever captured to get to my latest set of images.

Can anyone help me with this or at least direct me in the right path?

The reason I'm using photoshop to "stop motion" capture, is that Adobe Premiere Pro doesn't seem to have a stop motion caputre feature any more. I've searched high and low through that program and can't find the option (I know that previous editions of premiere had still picture/ stop motion capture option.)

any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
LW

A:photoshop/premiere video camera capture

They will always show up in the window unless the files are deleted. Have you ever considered organizing the files in dated folders or grouping folders based on project? Premiere is such a rich (and expensive) application I would think the newer versions would have stop motion or capture features if older versions had it. I would go on Adobe's forums or look through their FAQ's for more info on that.

Uploading videos

Thanks.

My main problem is because I can't get it to import Matroska (.MKV) video format into layers.
I've never had this problem before... this only happened right after I had a fresh start because I had to replace my HDD because it was dying, I even took the liberty of upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit.

But after I had installed Photoshop, I noticed that I was not able to import .MKV videos anymore, and I did some quick searches on the internet and most that I found were to download Quicktime, but still didn't work.

I can at least import .AVI, .MOV, .MP4 and such but the majority of my videos are MKV, so I'd like to know if there was a way to do this without the hassle of converting the video? I mean, I was able to do it before but for some reason, I can't now...

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a huge techie so people may have to walk me thru anything step by step, but...

All of my video recently began playing REALLY choppy and slow. Anything on my direct hard drive, externals or even internet playback is all screwy. Also, my Photoshop and windows movie maker started to freeze and unfreeze as they pleases. Started about the exact same time as the other problems.

My harddrive has a decent amount of space on it and I've also cleaned off more (30Gb out of 112 is free space now)

I've never had this issue before but the only changes I've made to my system recently are as follows
1. Got a new Seagate Freeagent external HD (Though the same issues with it disconnected)
2. Used MKV video files for the first time (Though also on the same external)
3. Somehow split my main Hard drive (originally labeled C:) into two lettered volumes (C: and E:). E drive is only 250Mb and 247mb of free space.

If anyone has any ideas of what I can do short of throwing my laptop away, please HELP!
Thanks

A:All Video Plays choppy and slow (Photoshop too!)

how did you split the drive?
did you compress the original c: volume?
compression causes poor video playback
try checking for an updated video driver from your video card manufacturer.

I bought my this board and processor combo:

for a 2nd computer upstairs that my wife uses for photoshop and internet surfing.

Anyway, it has onboard graphics that work pretty well. I was wondering if getting a video card would speed up photoshop significantly--its pretty quick now, but there is still several seconds delay applying more of the complex filters to the photos.

Any recommendations on a card? It supports 8x/4x.

In "My Music" I have two sorts of files. Those I have downloaded from KaZaAlite, and those I have got off CD's using XP Media Player.

All the audio editors I have tried (including one that was suggested on this forum) either won't save the results as an mp3 (illegal?) or won't open certain files.

I do belly dancing and the tracks I have are maybe 15min long but the dance is 3min in the middle of the song! I was successful in chopping a song I downloaded off Kazaa (before Power Audio Editor run out of free time) but with the new audio editors I have tried, they will not open songs I have got from CD (Copywrite??).

Since I am only using the demo versions I wonderd if the purchased software would do the trick, but ranging in price from $5 - $345 I am unwilling to pay the price until I know more (and you can double those US dollars to equal NZ dollars!).

Here's some Image Editor suggestions.

Most Image Viewers can perform the simple tasks you mentioned.

I use Irfanview as my default Image Viewer, then when I need more editing power, I switch to Photoshop
The freeware Gimp would be the Freeware Editor to closest to the power of Photoshop.
There's no sense in using a complicated and possibly slow Image editor to perform basic editing tasks

A:Registry Editors

Most people here, including me, don't recommend using registry cleaners. They can delete things that can cripple your computer. I've done it to mine a few times. But, if you feel you need to do something there is THIS SITE which is Micro$oft's One Care that will go through your registry. Since it is their program, XP, it might be OK. But I'm not endorsing it. It too might do something wrong. I've used it a couple of times and so far nothing bad has happened. You can also click on Start, Run and do a sfc /scannow it will run a check on your system files and repair or replace them. You must have your XP disc in and sit there while it's running, because it won't always find the file it's looking for and you need to click on the "retry" button. It takes about 40 to 45 minutes on my computer...I'm sure someone else will come along with more advice soon and you can ponder all of it and decide what to do, or not do.Good Luck...

I'm currently using HxD for...well, my Hex Editing needs. It's pretty great, but a big problem is that it can only compare 1 difference during each search. It's okay for when I'm expecting to find only 1 difference, but in most cases, I need to find the locations of tons and tons of differences.
What I'm looking for; A hex editor that can Compare between 2 files, and find all/multiple differences at the same time.

Thank you in advance

I was checking out this cleanup software and found on one screenshot some references to the Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Microsoft Pinyin Input Method Editors.

Do I need to keep those IME, or is it OK to remove them?

Hi.
Don't use "cleaners".By using cleaners you earn 000.1 in speed and sometimes they make the things worse.
Windows 7 is not xp,windows 7 is smart is cleaning up and tidy up up itself without the need of extra software.
Though if you like to "clean" your system use the windows 7 friendly free CCleaner.
