Preferred Solution: what server should i use for the windows internet time?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was trying to sync Windows time with Internet timer Server. I was following this tutorial : Time Synchronization - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

For the first option, I couldn't couldn't find the necessary options.

For the second option, I've already set my settings right.
But, still my windows 8 time was showing wrong.

I had to change my BIOS time to make the necessary change to Windows time.

So, what happened here. Can windows 8 override BIOS time? or How can I set Windows time to Internet time server even if my BIOS time is wrong.

Thank you for your help.

A:Synchronize windows time with internet time server.

Yes the OS can override the BIOS time. It uses UTC to update. Check your time zone in Date & Time tab, to see if that is why your time is off.

I've been having on-again, off-again problems with the clock randomly resetting to a day or two in the future. In the past, going into the internet time settings and telling it to update again fixed it. However the last time or two this has happened, I kept getting a message saying the connection to the server had timed out, and since I was in a hurry, I just reset the date manually and went on my way. The most recent occurrence, I had plenty of time on my hands and decided to see if I could figure out what was up with the internet time sync, and switched it to a different server to see if that would fix it. It didn't, and after a couple tries instead of saying the connection had timed out, it said that "the peer is unreachable". I went through all the default time servers and it did the same thing - it time out several times, and then it said the peer was unreachable. I then went and plugged in servers from this list- same thing. If anyone has any idea what's happening or how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi there. Looking forward to NOT spending a fortune at the local computer store OR having my hard-drive reformatted to eliminate the following problem, if possible:

Running Cable Internet, but only randomly able to connect successfully to a web address or engaged link . Sometimes we pull up a web address (or link) fine, but the very next time it times-out (server error message - either in Firefox or IE) or vice versa. We have run AVG antispyware, AVG Anti-rootkit, AVG antivirus, Spybot & Lavasoft in Safe & Reg. Mode - all recent versions, but can't eliminate this random issue. It's NOT the modem, or the hub, because our laptop (running Vista) connects (wirelessly) to any link or web address EVERY time - no time-outs. Your collective genius on these issues is GREATLY appreciated Tech-folks! Thankyou!

Hi, I am hoping that someone can help me resolve a problem that i have been having since day 1 with windows 7.

The problem is that my PC will occasionally freeze requiring a hard reset.

The PC itself is solely used as a HTPC with Media Center running on it 24/7. Its running Win7 64 bit. There doesn't seem to be any common tasks that it will freeze up on, although a possible slight propensity for it to happen at 100% CPU use (encoding).

Its not heat on the CPU (it has also happened when at idle), all my drivers are up to date, I thought it might be Catalyst Control Center but it froze without this too, bios was updated the other week and yet i had three freezes in a day today.

The main clue (I think) is that there is always some problem with the time when it reboots after the freeze. A lot of the time it will wake up and think that its 2000, exactly 10 years to the second has been lost from the system clock. obviously this affects the scheduling of tasks, scheduled recordings and so on. Until recently there's been very little detail in the event log, often i have seen the last 1/2 hour to 5 hours missing completely and showing the wrong date when it resumes.

The last three freezes it has (seemingly) been able to retain all the even log and i have noticed that there is a event relating to synchronising the system time shortly before the freeze. When it has rebooted on each occasion, if i go through to changing the internet time settings, it tells me that the time server ha... Read more

A:Windows 7 Freeze and Possible Time Server Problems

Have exactly the same problem but at least I think I've found out why. The culprit appears to be searchindexer.exe.
My freeze is fairly random except that it will always occur when the tv listing update runs in the early am.
My setup:
- Windows 7 home premium
- Originally an ATI 4300 video card - now it's a Nvidia 430
- Hauppage PVR
- Asus N4L motherboard with 2M memory
- Home Server for pictures, music, etc.
I've gone thru a heck of lot of testing. Here's what I did:
1. Replaced the ATI with Nvidia. I too was seeing a bunch of errors and suspected the flood crippled the system. Didn't fix anything. Nothing in any of the system or media center logs; system just froze and required a reboot.
2. Replaced the hard drive and cable. Denada.
3. Replaced the memory. Denada,
4. Replaced the hard drive. Denada.
5. Double checked and reloaded all the latest drivers. Denada
6. Killed all the services that I could reasonably kill. Denada
7. Cleaned out all of the extraneous autoruns. Denada
8. Rebuilt the entire Windows 7 media center. Turned of aero and only loaded Total Media Player. Set up Home Server. Went thru the autorun and service cleanup. Downloaded all new drivers. Turned on monitors for temperature of CPUs and GPU - all remained fine. Ran memory test for two days with no errors. Denada and still not a single event log error posted - the system just stopped.

XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it. These two issues seem to be related since right after I reboot, the Authentication tab works normally (as well as the time sync like I mentioned above), and they both seem to stop working at the same time. I have no idea if it happens after something I run or if it's just after a certain amount of time or what. Any ideas?

Hello!
I've already asked the
question regarding auto-starting the data collector sets and have posted MS's answer - now it seems the issue can be much broader: I failed to make my user defined data collector sets start according to their schedules, for example:
I created a test data collector set (with several CPU counters), saved it as a template and tested it on Windows Server 2008R2 and Windows Server 2019:
2008R2

2019

I've tested various user defined data collector sets on all my Windows Server 2019 computers - physical and virtual, domain and non-domain joined, the result is always the same - the data collector sets just don't start and the following event(s) get registered
in the Diagnosis-PLA log:

Here's the codes' description -
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/openspecs/windows_protocols/ms-pla/590752a5-ddc3-49e4-9914-147a90bd0193

No issues arise when starting the data collector sets manually.
Can anyone tell me if it works on your computers with Windows Server 2019?

Michael

Yes, XP can be used as an internet server, assuming that your requirements aren't too great. A search for "free html server" will provide some links. To offer continuous service your computer would have to run 24/7.

To make it possible for users to access your site you will need either a static IP address or use a dynamic DNS service. One such is:

I have a windows 7 enterprise laptop which is part of a domain. I tried to make it to syn. time with Internet NTP server instead of AD DC while I am on business travel. But I found I can't. I opened date and time applet, in Internet Time tab, I choose time.windows.com
as NTP server and then click Update Now button. But I got error message as "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing. The peer is unreachable." Then I downloaded NTP tool which is a third party tool acting as NTP client. This tool has no problem to
communicate with time.windows.com. So there is no fire wall issue.
I run "netstat -an" command on my laptop and found UDP port 123 are used. Further checkup, I found this port is used by "Windows Time" service.
So tried to run command as following
w32tm /config /syncfromflags:MANUAL /manualpeerlist:"time.windows.com,0x8" /reliable:yes /update
w32tm /resync
The first command finished without error but the second returned as
The computer did not resync because no time data was available.
Is it because my laptop is member of domain so it can't be set to syn. time with Internet?
Any suggestion? Thanks!

I am having an odd issue, not that important, but because of my personality it really bugs me. When I try to update the internet time in windows vista it displays something like "there was an error syncing blah blah blah." I searched this error on google and so far I have found that this usually happens when the time servers are down. However, I find it hard to believe that EVERY SINGLE TIME SERVER I try is down (oh yes, I've tried all the addresses windows includes along with others), especially when just a second before I try to update on this computer I successfully do it from the same network on a different computer. Thanks for the help!!!

A:Problem with Internet Time in Windows Vista

Hello schnook

Welcome to TSF

Did you disable the Windows Time service?

1. Type "services.msc" in run,
2. scroll to windows time and check the status.
3. If this service is disabled, the error message should say the RPC server is unavailable.Re-enable

Failing that you could Sync Clock from Command Line

1. command prompt (right-click, Run as administrator)
2. type w32tm /resync
Now your clock is sync'd. If you want proof, you could check the time settings panel again.

Hi, We are running an Internet Cafe with 15 Computers. The main computer runs windows server 2003. the other 14 are all running windows xp pro. Our main machine was runing windows xp but we upgraded to windows server 2003. Now our old cafe software doesnt work and instead of contacting the makers of the software we decided to see if there were any free alternatives. We want to be able to from the main machine click on a button that will start for example computer 1 and time how long it gets used and work out what to charge for the usage of the computer. We also want to be able to block some users from accesing certain things, like run and stuff that if the school students got into could mess things up. is there any way you can do this sort of stuff in windows server 2003? or should we just contact the makers of the old software and renue it and pay lots of money? Cheers!

Hello,
I was at a new client and found that they had IIS running on their workstation with portforwarding for ports 80, 1025, 3389, and 8080. This machine was about a year behind on patches, and I'm concerned.  I shared my concerns with them, but I'm not sure
they got the level of risk they were exposing themselves to.  This is an unmonitored and unpatched machine that holds their primary business data.  Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, etc.
Thanks,
Jeff

I need to install IE 9 or IE 10 on a Windows Server 2008 R2.  IE 9 or 10 is specified because of compatibility with some of our applications that have been developed in house.
An earlier post listed the link
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/A/C/8AC7C482-BC74-492E-B978-7ED04900CEDE/IE10-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe  as a source for the IE 10 download, but when I downloaded it and tried to install it, I got an error "Operating System is not supported".
I am hesitant to download it from one of the non-microsoft sites that offer it.
Is there a way to download and install IE 10 to Windows Server 2008 R2?
Thanks very much for your help.

A:Internet Explorer 10 for Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi Burt,
server versions of IE run in Enhanced protected mode.... you should not use your company server to casually surf the web or to test intranet applications as the security configuration is incongruent to client versions of IE... use a windows client instead
for testing. you should be able to run a WU for the server and update automatically to the latest version for your platform.
If using terminal server, alternatively, use x-ua server headers for IE=10 to force IE11 clients to use IE10 or lower emulation.
Regards.
Rob^_^

Server Machine:
Dedicated Server VM provided by a provider (similar to an amazon ec2 powered system) - All ports are opened
OS: Windows 7 Professional  - Fresh install (+newest windows updates (as of start of this month) preapplied)
Firewall: Only windows firewall (turned it all off in : Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Firewall\Customize Settings)
Since it is not behind a router, DHCP is done through windows and I have disabled on the main network adapter (I have manually configured the IPv4 ip/gw/subnet).
Tried enabling it so it auto gets it, no difference.

Fyi: I have contacted one of the tech support responsible for maintaining the vms on site and assured me that everything is open and nothing is blocked. Any sort of firewall is the client?s responsibly
to setup on their system.

Fyi2: I do have a second dedicated server provided by the same provider but on a completely different system (not the same place as the windows 7 machine being hosted? I hope this makes sense) but with
Ubuntu installed. I have pptpd installed, configured and running on the same ip range [10.0.0.10 ? 10.0.0.20] that I have setup for the windows VM. VPN clients that connect gets the correct 10.0.0.* ip and are able to access the web fine using the VM?s vpn
connection.  And no, I don?t run both vpn connections at same time.

Following most examples on the web on how to setup a vpn server (which all show exact same way) and supposedly it ju... Read more

A:Can I get Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2012 ?

Hi,

As I known, Internet Explorer 11 is preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. No additional action is required.

If you plan to run IE 11 on Windows server 2012, it won?t be supported. Internet Explorer 11 is not available for download for on Windows Server 2012.

For more information, you may refer to:

Hope it helps.

Hey guys im still new in this field
i have middle level knowledge about networking
but Im having this problem
that on windows server 2008 r2 the netwrok connection indicates that it is connected to the internet but when i browse any website
its not working and error "timed out"
thank you in advance

A:Internet access but no web browsing on windows server

The default browser security on Windows server can be paranoid at times. This must be to minimise chances of system intrusion by a malware of some sort while browsing the Internet.

However, you could try and verify if your server can talk to outside hosts using the ping command.
Open up the commandline and run
ping google.com

If there is a response, then your computer is able to access the Internet and this may be a problem with a firewall or browser security.

I am the owner of the company and the closest thing we have to an adminstrator. My desktop is running slow, internet is very slow and keystrokes are delayed quite often. The keyboard is wired so I know it is not a battery situation. I have run virus scans until I am blue in the face, it has not fixed the problem. I had an IT tech install SYmantec ENdpoint about two years agao and it seems that has been causing problems as well. I have tried to remove Endpoint protection from the desktops and network server but it will not fully uninstall. I do not know if that is part of the problem. Attached is the DDS log and Gmer log.

Please help.

I was asked to post to this forum so here I am. I was given a friend's computer and have been trying to fix it all week, and have been unsuccessful. It's a Dell Inspiron 600m on Windows XP, Service Pack 3 with all the latest windows updates. It had AVG 8 free on it, then my friend installed Paretologic virus scanner on top of AVG 8. He also installed Malwarebytes. Then he gave it to me. I ran the virus scanner at security.symantec.com and that found nothing. I uninstalled the paretologic software. I tried to upgrade AVG free 8 to AVG free 9 and the install process froze, so I uninstalled both. (not sure if the uninstall for any of the virus software actually worked successfully, even though I did not get any errors.) I then installed the latest Kaspersky and it found Rootkit.Win32.TDSS.d so in my haste and not reading enough before running, I downloaded and ran ComboFix. It got to stage 32 and then froze. I eventually canceled it, reset the computer, and uninstalled it using combofix /uninstall. It looks like it did quarantine one file though, but I forget the name, it was a .sys file. I then ran a full scan with Kaspersky and that did not show any viruses. I also then ran a full scan of Malwarebytes and that found some cookies that I deleted. I thought I was in the clear, but the following issues still occur:When I open any web browser, (IE, Firefox, and Chrome are installed on the machine) it will work fine for about a minute and then no browser can download anythi...
