Emailing Logs Using PowerShell

Q: Emailing Logs Using PowerShell

We are using powershell with a bunch of scripts that run it to do our backups and then create log files in a folder C:\backupslogs\<DATE>\<logfile>
is their a way to set it up so it emails us the logs after it finishes running the script. I would like to make it more automated and less "having to login and check everyh single day" of the status.

The problem I saw in doing this is it will email every single item in that folder since we separate the logs by month, not my day such as C:\backuplogs\<TheMONTH><files.log or TXT>

is their a script that would email me logs, but only the logs that were created that day and not every other giving the same folder. I dont want to see 20-30 attachments or log files the same time multiple days so it just emails for example logs from 4_10_2015 instead of logs from 4_1_2015 to 4_10_2015

Preferred Solution: Emailing Logs Using PowerShell

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i have been working on a script to do this, but not in powershell. i am not much of a programmer, but a friend of mine did one in linqpad, it is kind of like c# or something. if you want to look at it and modify it, you are welcome to it.
Code:

}
please keep me informed if you get it working, i never have and kind of just dropped it. i am really interested in making it work, but do not have the skills. in order to use this, you need to download the linq api, you may be able to modify it to work in just c or c# or whatever it is.

I hope this is correct forum - please move if needed (and thanks!).

I'm trying to auto-email router logs to my personal email account. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Not having a clue how to go about this, and seeing the 'help' from D-Link is anything -but- helpful, I started Googling.

I downloaded and installed "Free SMTP Server" which created a mess. No emails, but 'spoof attacks' in router log now. I've since disabled the network adapter on that computer so I can use it (w/o network connectivity). All details of my setup can be found at http://forums.tomcoyote.org/Pc_Attacks_Router_Hjt_Log_Attached_t81759.html

With no response from them in over a week (they seem really busy), if someone here could help, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd really like to get that computer back online.

Thanks a million in advance!

How can you clear the event logs without an event being created stating that the logs were cleared in Powershell? The "clear-eventlog" command does clear the events, however it leaves behind an event that states that the logs were cleared.
Anyway to get around this and totally clear the logs?
Thanks,

Hello everyone. I joined the forum today and hope you can help me out. On my work desktop I am running Windows 7 and I want to upgrade PowerShell version 2.0 to 4.0 as a minimum or 5.0. I've read many articles on fixing Windows PowerShell issues but my case seems to be a little different.

To begin, I have the following prerequisites on my computer:
Windows 7 SP1
.NET 4.5
Here is the list of all .NET versions on my computer:
v2.050727 2.050727.5420 SP2
v3.0 3.0.30729.5420 SP2
v3.5 3.5.30729.5420 SP1
v4
Client 4.6.01055
Full 4.6.01055
v4.0
Client 4.0.0.0

The version of PowerShell that I have access to is 2.0. When I try to install Windows Management Framework 4.0 (x64: Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64-MultiPkg.msu) I get the following message: "Update for Windows (KB2819745) is already installed on this computer." but when I look for it in "View installed updates" or "Uninstall or change a program", it doesn't show up. I've done searches for it on my computer and came up empty. Powershell does not show up in my "All Programs" list, Program Files / Program Files (86) or its Common Files, or in the local or roaming user files. The only place I see remnants of it such as the powershell.exe file is within C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-powershell-exe_31bf3856ad364e35_7.3.7601.933_none_3989ef6dcae7e4a9 and a few other folders like it within the winsxs directory. Hi Teph

Welcome to TSG!

I have split your post off into your own thread. In the future if you have a Question/Problem please start a "New Thread". It get's too confusing trying to address two different people's problem in the same thread and you may get overlooked.

Please continue here in this new thread.
Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

A:Reposting logs-!st logs I dont think I ran scan properly

Do you see anything in my logs please? I know I am not supposed to make any changes to my laptop while waiting but I did delete a couple things and have found a couple files that I don't have access to. My home network now says it is a public network if I connect. I also found in computer management remote shared folders for all drives that I am unable to change along with Group sharing or access in my services set to automatic and is completely greyed out so I am unable to disable. Windows says the default is disabled and it has to be turned on to automatic but I did not turn it on. I am very concerned and have received a phone call from a local venue about an appointment being made in person by someone using my last name and phone number. All of my email accounts continuously being compromised even after changing passwords from another computer. My LinkedIn and twitter accounts are being used by someone else. I am concerned so any help or advice would be appreciated. If I need to rerun any scans and post logs since I have made changes just let me know.

New to the site and I hope this is in the right forum.

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64 and my main account logs in then automatically logs off. I can successfully log in using Safe Mode to this account. I created another account called test and I can access this account in both Safe and Normal modes.

I ran Malware Bytes and Avast Anti-Virus and they found nothing.

What can I do fix this issue or transfer my Outlook, programs and such to the test user account and rename it?

I recently acquired a computer from a friend who had problems with it and just didn't want to deal with it. She gave it to me as is, without any restore disks or Windows XP disks. The computer information I know so far is that it's a Dell Dimension 9100 running Windows XP Pro.

When I first got the computer, it would not even turn on. It would get power (the lights on the front of the tower lit up) but gave nothing but a black screen and a beep code. I researched the beep code and found out for this computer it meant that there was an error in memory. So, I opened up the box and took out a stick of RAM to see what would happen. Without that stick of RAM, the computer booted up to the select your profile screen and when I clicked the profile it began to log on. It showed the desktop (without icons) for a few seconds then went back to the profile screen and said it was "logging off". I rebooted the machine and tried to log in in safe mode but, I got the same result. I also tried logging in as Administrator in safe mode, but it was the same thing. I put my own Windows XP Pro CD in the CD-Rom to see if it would allow me to restore or repair Windows, but it didn't do anything different. It seemed to not even register that there was a CD in the drive.

I don't know anything about the history of the machine and what might have caused this issue. My friend doesn't seem to know either. She just said that one day, all of a sudden, she couldn't turn the computer on. ... Read more

A:Windows Profile Logs In and Immediately Logs Back Out

Hello manekineko,

From previous experience when the system starts to load the profile then logs you right back off, its cause either the userinit.exe file was modified or deleted, or the registry entry that points to it has been changed. All this usually happens when the computer is infected. If there is nothing to be saved on the hard drive I might suggest going ahead and reformatting the computer. If there is information that is needed then you might need to look into creating a mini xp boot disk that would allow you to at least backup whatever information.

Your other option is to try to do a system repair if you have a XP Pro disk that works and then if your able to log into windows after the repair, visit http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html and create a new thread to get help to clean up the system.

I've had the delta homes browser hijacker bugging me for a while and haven't been able to get rid of it. At one point my computer booted to a blank screen and I couldn't do anything unless I restarted in safe mode. Not sure if the two things are related, but I do know that after I used HijackThis to remove everthing with delta homes in the name, it fixed both problems for a while. Eventually delta homes came back to mess up my browser, and I'm trying to get rid of it for good. I just used HijackThis again to remove everything with delta homes in the name, only this time when I removed them, the problem remained when I opened my browser. That's where I'm at right now, so below are the logs from HijackThis as well as DDS which apparently gives more info for Windows 7 if you know how to read it.

If anyone can help me based on this information I'd really appreciate it. If you need more information of some kind then let me know and I'll try to get it for you as soon as possible.

I am working on a Gateway, Windows Xp Home SP2 machine. The machine was infected with a Trojan. The trojan seemed to be removed and all was fine, but the trojan seems to have removed the "c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe" file. I can not access any windows profiles in the normal boot up or safe mode.

I have downloaded the Windows Xp Boot Disk from support.microsoft.com and burned the .exe to a CD to repair the windows installation as the machine does not have a floppy drive. I changed the Bios to select the CD Rom as the primary, but the message "Boot Failure, Insert system disk" appears when the machine boots up.

The drive seems to be functioning fine as the gateway has System Resotre by pressing F11, but the Windows XP disk is not the System Disk #1 the system is looking for.

I understand I need to get to the Recovery Console to either copy the userinit.exe file or modify the registry but can't get the console and can't get a windows profile to open.

Do you have any ideas, or another download that would allow me to access the Recovery Console to modify the registry key or copy the userinit.exe file?

Thanks

We will have to create a small 'fix CD' to solve this problem. Please download RC.ISO and save it somewhere you can find it.Also download MagicISO and install it.Start MagicISO. You should see a window informing you about the full version of MagicISO.In the bottom right select Try It! and the program will open.Click on File and then on Open and navigate to the RC.ISO file you downloaded. Select it, and click Open.First, we'll need to add a clean version of userinit.exe to the current RC.ISOIn the upper right pane, double click on the i386 folder.Right click in the upper right pane and select Add Files...Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and select userinit.exeThen click Open to add userinit.exe to the CD image.Click File and select Save As...Name the file RCplus and save it somewhere you can find it.Next, we'll need to burn the newly created image to a disk that we can use to fix the problem.Put a blank CD-R disk in your CD burner and close the tray. If an AutoPlay window opens, close it.Click on Tools and select Burn CD/DVD with ISO.... A window will appear.Click on the little folder to the right of CD/DVD Image File then navigate to the newly created RCplus.iso Image file and click Open.In the CD/DVD Writing Speed drop-down menu choose the 8X setting.Under Format make sure that Mode 1 is selected. And finally, click on the Burn it! button to burn RCplus.iso to disk.Once the disk is burned, put it in the machine you want to fix and restart it.Bo... My initial problem was that the my documents folder was automatically coming up on startup. So, I looked this up and I found this (From Microsoft):

1.Start>Run>Regedit>ok

2.Now navigate to the following key:-
HKEY_ LOCAL_ MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Win*dows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3.Look down the list in the Right Hand pane, scroll down to the value Userinit This value should read: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.e*xe, (The comma at the end must also be there)

I do not know ehere you found this article suggesting the solution, but I can assure you that if you have typed correctly what it says the article is wrong.
It NEVER suggested Win*dows, unless it is a spoof article
and it never suggested typing e*xe.

Try F8 Last Known Good.
If no success try F8 Safe Mode.
If that does not work do you have the XP CD, without it, you now have a problem.

So, as my title stated, I've been infected with a nasty virus that attacked just about every program on my PC. My Anti virus removed files needed to run windows and now, when I log into windows it logs me out immediately. I've also tried to log into safe mode but the same thing happens, it logs me out immediately. Should I put my PC into the shop to get cleaned up or can I fix this problem myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys my computers busted again (and for the third time I call for help from my trusty laptop...it never seems to die whenever my desktop is in need...she's like a good neighbour...)

Sorry I digress! Few days ago my ISP disconnected my internet because they found an IRC bot infecting their network. I ran my antivirus and (gasp) it found system32/virut virus, among a plethora of other files. I'm not sure how bad this virus is, or if indeed anything can be salvaged. I let the antivirus remove what it could, and rebooted my PC.

From that point on I can't log back on. I see the blue screen, enter my password for my account, and it says loading settings, only to save settings and log off a few seconds later.

info-
NO, I cannot log in with other accounts, or administrator
NO, I cannot log in safe mode, or safe mode with command prompt
YES, I still have my operating system cd and YES I did an XP repair but it did not work (same thing, stuck at welcome/account screen grr)

Now I've perused the web and others have experienced similar problems. I tried a fix that says "copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe" that had worked for others.

I receive the message "The system cannot find the file specified." I guess viruses, ****-ware and whatnot tampered with my userinit.exe as it doesn't seem to be on my comp. That or my antivurs removed it, because I could still log on before I had run the antivirus.

Any way to fix/restore the mess? Prefera... Read more

A:Emailing pdf

It sounds as if you're trying to save a Word document as a PDF file. You can do that in 2007. Open your Word document, click on the Office button, choose Save As, and choose PDF. The window that opens will prompt you to name the document, giving you a default location where to save it. You'll see in the File Type area that it will be saved as a PDF. The file will then be able to be read by anyone who has Acrobat Reader or any other PDF reader when you email that particular document to them.

Hi there.

Outlook Express no longer supports Hotmail. Seeing as Microsoft owns Outlook Express and Hotmail, this will not be fixed. You are going to have to use Windows Live Mail if you wish to continue receiving your email on your computer instead of online.

How do I set my default email program to 'yahoo'?
When I go to email a pic from my pictures library, it says it can't because I don't have a default email client set up.

A:emailing a pic

You set up default, by typing default in search. Then going to the appropriate setting in default programs. .

But I do not know if you can do this with Yahoo

You could set up the email client. To use Yahoo on the client you may need the pay service.
Yahoo is web mail; however, I have heard that you may be able to use it with Yahoo Messenger.

If you want to set up a client go to Windows Essentials and download Windows Live Mail.

A:emailing

If you'll be sending this from within a mail client, you may want to configure a distribution list as it is referred to in Outlook, or a mailing list as Thunderbird calls it. This will allow you to send the same email to all recipients that have been added to that list at one time.

Question:

What is the reason that pictures or attachments that other people send to me will not go through if I want to send them on to someone else? This just started around 5 or 6 months ago.

I used to be able to send things that other people send to me--but not anymore. I do not recall resetting my computer another way.

Since McAfee updates my computer every other day, I can't forward anything with pictures. I have got so I don't care if I read emails or not. Can you help?

Thanks,

email address removed for safety reasons

A:Emailing

It would be good to remove your email address from your post, spammers can pick that up.

Is that Hotmail address the one you are having problems with? Is Hotmail accessed through the website or do you use Outlook Express with it?

Temporarily disable McAfee and see if you can send pictures. Also if you are using a firewall. If one of these is causing the problem, look for adjustments.

Hello let's try this first.Change your DNS Servers: Go to > Run... and in the open box, type: cmdPress OK or Hit Enter. At the command prompt, type or copy/paste: ipconfig /flushdnsHit Enter. You will get a confirmation that the flush was successful.Close the command box.If the above commands did not resolve the problem, the next thing to try is to reset your network settings and Configure TCP/IP to use DNS.Go to > Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.Right-click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and and choose Properties.Double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or highlight it and select Properties.Under the General tab, write down any settings in case you should need to change them back.Select the button that says "Obtain an IP address automatically" or make sure the DNS server IP address is the same as provided by your ISP.Select the button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". If unknown Preferred or Alternate DNS servers are listed, uncheck the box that says "Use the following DNS server address".Click OK twice to get out of the properties screen and restart your computer. If not prompted to reboot go ahead and reboot manually.-- Vista users can refer to How to Change TCP/IP settingsCAUTION: It's possible that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) requires specific DNS settings here. I've been encountering a problem sending digital photos from my mac to people operating pc's. I have a Mac G3 OSX, and use iphoto to catologue my photos. The problem i have is when I attach my photos in my email (AOL) as jpegs everyone tells me they can't open them. They all then request i send jpegs. (which is what they are to begin with). I thought i had solved the problem by not compressing the files in iphoto. iphoto apparently creates zip files which i am told microsoft apps are not equipped w/ unzip software. However when i've sent them as single jpeg files they still cannot be opened. Is the problem on my end or theirs. please help!!

A:emailing jpegs from Mac to PC's

Welcome to TSG.

You are obviously as ignorant of PCs as I am of Macs Ė like another world. But I assure you people with PCs use zip files just fine. Jpg files wonít compress when you zip them as they are already as compressed as much as possible, so it is an exercise in futility to zip them.

AOL is also another world, but I donít think that is the problem. I think there are too many fingers in the pie.

Get the unzipped jpg files you want to send by themselves in a folder on the hard drive. Attach them from that folder as FILES (not images) and they will likely be OK.

Whenever I send pictures using OE6, whether as an attachment or as a picture in the body, the people I send it to can't see them. Either the email is read encoded or it is sent in multiple emails and they still can't read them. Or, they will get the email but they will see just a small read box with an "x" in it.

I have "send pictures with email" checked and rich format.

I have reinstalled my os xp so ie and oe would be reinstalled, but that did not help one bit.

Would appreciate help, I have been fighting this for at least 7 months. Thank you.

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums

If you just reinstalled XP over your original install, probably settings were not changed. You would have to reformat, then install XP.

Were you able to send pictures 7 months ago and then it suddenly stopped? Or is that when you got your computer and were never able to send pictures?

click Tools-->Options:
1) Security Tab
uncheck Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potenially be a virus.

2) Send Tab-->HTML Settings
Besides send picture with emails this is the correct setting:
Encode text using: Quoted Printable

click Accounts-->Highlight and click properties
1) Advanced Tab
Uncheck Break apart messages larger than

Also if you have already tried these, kindly detail exactly what else has been tried so we don't duplicate your efforts.

As I understand it, ccapp.exe is a legitimate process belong to Norton AV; it is also a process attached to fastclick adware that might be attempting to send usage information to its company servers, some of which could easily be in Brazil. The BC start up database lists 4 entries for ccapp. exe, three of which are additional problems involving worms or trojan backdoors. I would suggest you start there.Regards,John

Good day,

First I'd like to say...This site is a great learning resource! Learned so much about VBA and Macros in just two days.

Now the issue. I found two great codes that I will 'splice' together to get what I want...

https://forums.techguy.org/threads/automatic-outlook-mail-due-date-reminder-based-on-excel-file.1129238/

...BUT there is an issue :-( (because I still have much to learn) When I run the "CheckAndSendMail.vbs" all the calibrations are being sent to everyone. I have yet to find the piece of code that will compile the calibrations per user and send just to that user.
Is this even possible?
(I will be adding an Email_CC = to the code...eventually) The email body will include columns A, D and F.
The attach test file is set to email today. No code is included, see above.
