Changing the Font for Icon Text

Q: Changing the Font for Icon Text

I recently installed Windows 7 in Dual Boot with XP Pro and I output the display to my 50" Sony HDTV at 1080p.

I do not like the way the Text, under the Desktop Icons, displays at 1900x1080 res.

In XP Pro, I could go to Display Properties/Appearance, choose Icon, and change the Font Type and Font Size to make the Text easier to read.

With Windows 7, I only see a choice for ClearType and Text DPI. ClearType does not appear to improve the way the Text under the Desktop Icons displays.

How can I change the Font?

Preferred Solution: Changing the Font for Icon Text

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello BuschBarber, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can use the tutorial below to help show you how to change the font for the Icon item in the Advanced Appearance settings. However, this will change the font for all icons in Windows 7 and not just for the desktop.

In Microsoft Word 2003 I made a document with text boxes in it. I typed text into the boxes. I then changed the font of that text. When I was done I saved the document. When I opened the document again, the text had changed to another font. I tried deleting the text box, adding a text box again, typing the text in at the correct font to begin with, and saving the document. After I saved, closed, and reopened the document, the font had reverted back to another font again.

This was excellent with the RC version of win 7, I mean, it installed it all on its own, it was like it read my mind and knew that I was getting old and I was going to be happy with the font size.

Well, it all changed with the RYN version, I manually had to use the 125% dpi option, which worked well with the icon sizes but not so much with the font size withing the content window.

The size is awesome on this site but not so much on others and/or the software I use... see example.

I have also gone to the "Change Window Colors and Metrics" and sorted some other stuff but, I can't for the life of me, change the "Window Text" inside the "Active Window"... again, see image attached.

My problem is that at my 46 yrs of age, my eyesight is not that bad, hence the problem I am having. I mean, I can see 20/20 for most everything but, fine print within 1 is when all hell breaks loose and my computer is within 1 & 2 so its a toss up

Anyways, what else I can do?

A:Changing font size... not the icon

If changing the Display resolution isn't working (Control Panel - Appearance and Personalization - Display - Screen Resolution "Make text and other items larger or smaller") isn't doing it, Windows IE 8 has a tab in the lower right corner to jack up the resolution in the browser. For sites that have small text on parts of them, you can jump the resolution from 125% to 150, or better.

Here's another suggestion from Dwarf, in an earlier thread:

"Try this. Click Tools and Internet Options. On the General tab, under Appearance, click Accessibility. In the Formatting section, click to check (place a tick) the option Ignore font sizes specified on webpages and then click OK twice."

I don't know why I can't remember, but I can't lol. I changed my wallpaper from a dark color to a light color. Because my last wallpaper was so dark my desktop icon fonts were white. Now I need them to be dark and I can't remember for the life of me how to change them! I went to properties and appearances and clicked icon from the drop down menu, but it gave me no option to change the color. I assume that I was clicking the wrong thing for desktop icon font. Good day.

I wish to know if there is a way to change the font size/style (bold, etc.) of the icon labels ONLY on the desktop screen.

I've tried the Control Panel method (Appearance & Personalization -> Display) that allows me to change the fonts for 'ICONS'. However, this option also changes the appearance of fonts in the directories/filenames, which is not what I want.

E.g. Labels on the desktop with size 12 and bold. Fonts in folders: size 9 and UNbolded (default style).

Anyone have a solution for this?

A:Changing default font and font size on hotmail

You may use your personal e-mail signature to choose default font in windows live hotmail...

In the options menu, select "more options" and then "personal e-mail signature". Choose the desired font style, size and color and type the phrase "text here". Save changes.

Now all you have to do, when writing a new message or a reply is highlight the phrase "text here" and start typing. It's that simple!

Hello sevenforums! I have a problem with my computer i recently purchased. Here is my story.

This all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.

Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.
Before
After

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.

Help me! It is driving me crazy and I have no idea how to fix it. I cannot save a theme and change to it, otherwise it results in the small font. It affects all the fonts soon afterwards. Like google chrome will be fine until i exit and restart the program. Then a super small font follows.

Help!

I created a table using Excel, and from that table I created a line chart using the Chart Wizard.

After the chart was complete, I then added data using the drawing tools "add text icon."

When I want to included the data table when printing, the text that I added prints fine.

Now here is where the problem occurs. if I just select the chart, the text disappears, and if I do a print preview or print, the text doesn't show up. The text that I added is behind the chart in a cell. I tried to bring it forward but that doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

If I create the table in Power Point, and then add the text, everything prints fine. I don't understand why it works in Power Point and not in Excel.

Thank you for your help.

A:Excel-Printing Text that was added to a Chart using the Drawing Tools "Text Icon"

When you select a chart in Excel, that becomes the print range. I think you'll be better off copying the chart to it's own worksheet and resizing to desired size...and of course, carry the text box(es) along with it.

IE6/Firefox 1.0
768MB RAM
DSL 1319/383

Ok, this is rather odd and only happens in one particular program which
I've clean installed four times and it still exhibits this strange behavior.

When I start the program, after about 3 or 4 hours the font/text will change
back and forth from normal to bold without my doing anything.
I can simply view the page and watch the font/text change.
During this event the (bold)font will sometimes react to the movement or hovering of
my cursor as it moves over the text.
Also, in transitioning from one page to another the change is slow
and both pages will overlap so that I am able to view parts of each page at the same time.

The program's Forum has not found a final solution except for the suggestion
to increase the Virtual Memory Paging File Size, which was new to me but I have followed instructions to increase my Paging File Size, however this has not fixed the problem so far.

Before any adjustments to the Virtual Memory my settings were:
Initial Size: 400MB
Maximum Size: 768MB
Recommended: 1150
After adjustments, these are the new settings:
Paging File Size (MB): 2000-2000
......Initial: 2000MB
Maximum: 2000MB

Total Page File Size:
Minimum Allowed: 2MB
Recommended: 1150MB
Currently Allocated: 2000MB

My system is clean of malware, trojans, virus as a result of frequent

On two laptops, one has horizontal width of 12.25" screen with resolution 1366x768; the other has horizontal width of 15.125" screen with resolution 1900x1080.

So 12.25" screen pixel width is 12.25/1366; 15.125" screen pixel width is 15.125/1900. Pixel width difference is about 12.7%.

On IE 8/9, majority of texts on 12.25" screen have font size 11 while same texts on 15.125" screen have font size 8 or smaller (font style appears to be Arial). The font size difference now is about 37.5%. Why is that?

Adjusting Text Size in XP by CCT

One annoying part of the XP experience for me is that text sizes aren't universally adjusted when a change is made.

You can right click the Desktop screen, click properties, appearance, and pick large or extra large fonts and the Desktop display will change. However, this has no effect on other areas.

So, what else can you change?

1 - the top bar in Windows Explorer; right click the Desktop screen, click properties, appearance, advanced and select Active Title bar and pick a new size, say, 16 if you are running a high resolution screen and find the '-' and 'x' too small to target easilly.

2 - the second bar down in Windows Explorer; right click the Desktop screen, click properties, appearance, advanced and select Menu and pick a new size, say 11 if you find the default text too small to target/read easilly. This is also useful because it increases the text size in Internet Explorer when you click on Favourites or other 'menu' items on that bar.

3 - In Internet Explorer, you can click on Tools, Internet Options and select Fonts - depending on which you pick the size of the characters will change (ie, one fonts 'LARGE' may actually be smaller than anothers). You can also click accessibility and check the box 'ignore font sizes specified on web pages' and 'ignore font styles specified on web pages' to ensure you get your larger fonts used.

4 - In Internet Explorer, you can click on the 'view' in the second bar down and select... Read more

I want to change the taskbar font on my Win8 Pro 64-Bit. I tried to do it using Windows Style Builder; however, I wasn't able to as it fails to edit win8 visual styles.

Is another tool different from Windows Style Builder needed?

Why have Microsoft done away with what they had on Windows 7? On Windows 7, you could go into CONTROL PANEL and into display, and totally change the appearance of things on your computer including FONTS that were used for things such as title bar, active title bar... etc.... you can no longer do that and I think it's totally WRONG on Microsoft to have taken that option away from us and given us NO CHOICE but to use THEIR choice of FONT.... it's not fair and I for one want that option BACK and I want it BACK PRONTO!

Hi, I am using the Google Chrome browser and the default font(s) seem to be some sort of cursive type font and I don't like it at all. I want to change this font to something like an Arial 12 point but I can't figure out how or where to do this. Any guidance will be helpful. Thanks.

in chrome, look to the top right for 3 horizontal lines. This is your area for Chrome settings. Click that > settings > scroll down and click 'show advanced settings' and the fonts are in there.
