Q: [SOLVED] Sleep Mode in Windows XP

After replacing XP Pro after major crash, with another XP Pro OS I am no longer able to put my Dell laptop to sleep. Can someone tell me how I can
find the instructions to bring up sleep and/or hibernation. Laptop won't turn
off unless I completely shut it down.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How do I prevent windows from going into sleep mode when no one is logged in? The Power Options in the Control Panel only affects the user that is logged in. I tried going into the registry and changing the power setting for the Default user (always on), but it is still going to sleep. It?s funny that computers going to sleep are causing me to loose sleep.

A:[SOLVED] Stop windows from going into sleep mode

Try setting all users (including administrator) power options to not allow the computer to go to sleep at all.

I didn't think Windows followed a power option scheme when no one is logged in.

Hey, sometimes I get a blue screen when I come back from sleep mode (has happened only twice). I ran my virus programs and everything is clean. I then performed error checking and checked for file system errors and bad sectors - everything is good. This narrowed it down by telling my it has to be a driver problem. I checked for Windows update and all the important updates are done and correct. The only recent new hardware I got was my monitor so I upgraded that driver and I'm sure that that fixed my first blue screen. I guess my question is is that is there a way to update all my drivers at once? or do I have to go through device manager and update each one individual? also in my windows update I have the option of installing NVIDIA - system - nFORCE memory controller. the date of this driver is 10/19/2008. should i update this? If worse comes to worse I can just shutoff sleep mode altogether (I rarely use it and most of the time when I leave I turn my PC off anyway). How would I go about doing that? If wanted I can supply the Blue Screen info I guess. Anything will help!

My netbook was working normally but I was running low on space so I decided to run a disk cleanup. I opted to compress the files as well. Then I put the netbook to sleep.

Trying to restart this morning, the "Toshiba" screen came up (with access to the boot menu) and immediately after a black screen with the following message appears:

YKNRE is compressed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

When I follow the instructions, the same cycle repeats. This is a nebook without a CD drive. I am traveling in Iran and am stuck. I would appreciate any help.

I just had the fan replaced, and now when I use F4 to put the laptop in sleep mode and then close the lid, it remains in sleep mode when I open the lid.  Same thing occurs when I close the lid (no F4) for sleep mode and then open the lid.  However, when I select Sleep on the Windows 7 Start Menu and close the lid, the laptop does resume when I open the lid. NOTES:- Before replacing the fan, I used F4 for sleep and resume, because when I close the lid I would sometimes find the fan running the next morning- BIOS is up-to-date- Keyboard and mouse are set to wake PC- Power Options Settings:   - Allow hybrid sleep set to OFF and Hibernate set to NEVER (As they always have been)   - USB Settings > Disabled USB selective suspend settings  (These were enabled) While this isn't a huge problem, I would like to have things working as before, preferably without having to go back to the Lenovo certified shop. Thank you in advance for your help. Jeff

I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?

A:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

So, my Acer Aspire 5251-1513 won't properly go to sleep.

When I close the lid, sometimes it goes into sleep mode, but other times it goes into ? mode. It's power button light and other power light are lit and the screen shuts off and the fan still runs normal speed. And unlike sleep mode, the only thing that will get it out of this mode is by pressing the power button.

I can put it into sleep mode manually, but I like the convenience of shutting the lid and it doing that.

And, yes, the settings say to go to sleep when lid closes in all power modes.

The thing that makes me mad about the situation is that it will overheat (65 degree C) if I put it in my bookbag.

I am running Compaq SR5410F Desktop with Vista Home Premium. I installed a logitech wireless optical mouse and keyboard when I first got the computer. A few weeks ago the ability to awaken the computer out of sleepmode became impossible. First it wouldn't do it unless I click on the left key where as all along the movement of the mouse alone would wake it up. Then after only being able to wake the computer up twice by clicking the left mouse key it got worse. I then got nothing except for the keyboard to wake it. I went into the drivers and where should have been a Power Management tab along with the other tabs there wasn't. I have all the latest Compaq and Microsoft updates. I have also uninstalled the mouse driver and downloaded the newest version. I contacted Compaq (HP) through a chat session and after 45 minutes I was told that wireless mice won't wake up a computer from sleepmode to which I asked why it had always done it since I first bought it and why do my other wireless mice wake up my other computers. I got dead air after that and eventually sent to a microsoft update site to fix USB caused sleepmode problems that when used wouldn't install as they weren't needed. Any ideas would be appreciated. The computer has been completely cleaned and virus checked. Any help would be appreciated.

Not having any problems, I would like to know if you put the computer in sleep mode, if you have scheduled scans, etc, does it do the scans and updates while in sleep mode? My internet connection disconnects when not in use until you come out of sleep mode. Using a desktop, not a laptop. Like I said, no problems, just want to know, will the computer come out of sleep mode by itself if a scheduled scan in in place? In other words, will it turn on to do the scan? Would like to schedule them while away but not come home to a computer turned on cause the internet comes on when the computer is active.

As far as I know, when your computer is in Sleep mode, it's in a powered down condition and will not be doing any scheduled scans.

We have six computers on the same in-home network (one Win XP-SP3, three Win 7 (Home Prem), two Win 8.1)
Until about two weeks ago, all computers came out of sleep mode, and booted fresh, with internet access.
Starting then, on the Win 7 (Home Prem) machine, I have had to re-connect to the network every time I come out of sleep mode or have a fresh start.
What settings can I change to have the computer 'stay' connected to the network?
Also, if there is any insight, how could this have happened? I don't recall doing anything out of my usual stuff.

I have a Motorola surfboard s85101 cable modem and I am wondering what is the purpose of the sleep mode switch. Should I put the modem to sleep when not in use or just leave it on 24 7. Will the modem last longer by putting it to sleep when not in use.

A:Solved: modem sleep mode

I could find no information about a surfboard s85101 on Motorola's site. Do you have a user manual? And does it say anything about a "Sleep" mode?

The Motorola Surfboard modems that I know about (e.g., my SB4200 and SB5101) have no Sleep mode but do have a Standby mode. In Standby no traffic is transmitted, but I can find no indication its use would prolong life. The life of the modem, of course, will be extended if you unplug it when it is not being used for extended periods of time (e.g., mine is unplugged for about 10 hours each night).

Hello all fellow techies,
I have just done two fresh installs on this SONY VAIO VGN-NS110e laptop and with Windows Vista Premium, but I can not get this laptop to go into safe mode!

When I press Start, and go to the shut down area, the word Sleep is greyed out.
I have installed most of the drivers off the sony website and I can not get it.
When I press the Power button while the computer is on (which usually sends it to safe mode), the computer brings up a screen that says the battery is not working properly and this will not ever go away until I reformat again. I know the battery is working properly there is just a driver or something I am missing.

How do I let this laptop "know" it's a laptop?
I am just trying to update the bios now

Ever since I installed Windows 7 on my previously XP run laptop I have had sound issues.

- After I resume my laptop from sleep mode I get no more sound eventhough the taskbar volume indicator clearly shows the sound volume flashing.
I have to restart my laptop to get the sound working again.

-Also when I plug in a headphone into my laptop the sound goes dead.
If I start up my laptop with a headphone plugged in it works fine untill I unplug it and then guess what, sound no more .

In device manager under audio it is listed as High Definition Audio Device and according to Windows is functioning properly and up to date.

Furthermore Windows 7 has been working like a charm except for this flaw.
Are any of you familiar with this issue and know of a remedy?
Thanks for any advice.

A:[SOLVED] No sound after resume from sleep mode

Despite Device Manager saying that your sound driver is up to date, it most likely is not.

Update it from here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/as_5670.html (select the Realtek Sound driver in the drop down list).

Also, by having no Service Packs installed you are missing many critical updates. I do not think that the lack of service packs is causing this issue but it would pay to update sooner rather than later.

my pc used to be fine before and could go into sleep mode (s1-s3) without any issues. Recently though I've noticed that it stays awake in Windows 8. Don't get me wrong, even now, sometimes it works fine, but on other occasions nothing happens.

I've tried a lot of stuff:-

registry hack to disable ipv6
switch off any computers that are on the network
using powercfg checked what devices were enabled and cancelled them all

What else can I do?

My Win7 PC has recently stopped powering off in sleep mode. I ran powercfg/energy in command prompt, which gave me a report with 6 errors which state:
"USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend"
, and one which says:
"Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer."

I have googled for answers as much as I can, but with my very low level IT experience, I've yet to fix the problem.

So far I've tried:
updating drivers for all USB devices in device manager (they were all apparently up to date)
checked powersave options

Can somebody suggest other things I should look into?
The main point is that to the best of my knowledge, I haven't installed anything new or changed any settings on my PC (I've been away for a month, but it was powering down fine the first few days on my return).
I'm wondering if some kind of software update could be the cause, but what I'm most worried about is if I've had some kind of a security breach during the course of trawling the internet (I'm using Bit Defender on auto pilot mode, nothing's been reported so far).

Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks for your time.

here is why and how to fix it

By default Windows 7 has media sharing turned on ( for xbox , ps3) ect

this pervents it from going into standby Mode

The Fix is Simple

Open control panel and goto

Power Options > change Plan settings > Advanced Power Settings

Allow hybrid Sleep > disabled
Allow wake timers > disable/enable try both settings

USB selective suspend > ENABLE

+When Shareing media [ This is the critical one ]

Set to allow the computer to sleep

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. It goes into Sleep mode fine but anytime push a key to come back out of it.. it does nothing and has to be reset. Also it stops loading windows upon the first reset (the circles stop moving when says Loading Windows) then just stays on that screen which requires the reset button to be hit a second time.. finally moving past the loading circles to get to the desktop each time..

I downloaded the latest BIOS version which is a .cab file but trying to update it, says that the cab file cannot be read. Let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks for the help!

I installed Widows 10 last night on my HP 15 Notebook and have had several issues. Most I have been able to resolve. I have noticed now that my laptop will not wake from sleep mode. I am having to power it down competely if it is in sleep mode. I have made sure that the keyboard is set to wake it and it is still not responding. Any hints as how to fix this? Thanks!

I have an Envy x360, and Mingy's solution worked for me as well! Here are the steps to follow... - On the Desktop, right-click on This PC and select Properties- On the left, choose Device Manager- Click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that category- Right-click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family and select Update Driver Software...- Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software- Your computer should find and automatically install the updated driver- After the installation is complete, restart your computer I'm now able to successfully shut down, sleep, and resume from sleep! Hope this helps others with the same issue.
